I've Rooted my HTC One - Now what? - AT&T HTC One (M7)

I've successfully unlocked my bootloader, flashed recovery and rooted my One using Superuser. It was pretty difficult and confusing to be honest. I got Titanium Back-up and froze all those stupid bloatware apps.
Now what can I do? I see there are two pretty good roms over here in the forums, but I'm not sure if I should grab one of those or wait for other better ones? Is there a "best" rom? Anything else I can do while waiting?

My advice? Take some time and just enjoy the phone. Its too soon for there to be
much going on in terms of ROMs and MODs. But they will come...
I generally get rid of the stock ROM on a new phone as soon as possible...but I have been
impressed with Sense 5 so far...gonna rock it for a while I think.

Check out the TrickDroid rom in the international HTC One forum. I've got that on my AT&T One, and it's amazing.

Appreciate the reply. I saw that one. I was having a hard time telling what exactly it does that is better than the stock rom? Anything you can tell me about it/ what you use it for?
Thanks.

One app I consider a must have for rooted devices is adblock plus. Get it and enjoy a faster, cleaner, and less data intensive internet experience. Just be aware that it's no longer part of the play store, and you'll have to sideload it.

I've rooted devices before, but never installed a custom rom. Might be fun to give it a try.
However, just to make sure I won't do anything wrong...I replaced my recovery with TWRP when I first rooted.
I'm thinking I add the .zip rom to my root directory, make a backup with TWRP, backup my apps with titanium backup, then just flash the rom and restore my apps? Is it that simple?
Also, should I wipe the dalvik in addition to the regular data?

Actually the list of improvements and added features in TrickDroid (and several other 1.29 based International ROMs) compared to the stock ROM is quite large, which very easily justifies the reason for bootloader unlocking/rooting your phone. Some of these improvements/mods are available over here in the AT&T dev section, and some are only available in International based ROMs (for now anyway)
Newer firmware than the AT&T base (1.29 compared to 1.26)
Supposedly the camera software in 1.29 is considerably better with things like improved processing for pictures; I haven't verified this for myself
That stupid permanent power saving toggle in the notification pulldown menu has been removed (replaced by a much nicer and smaller status bar toggle button)
The only-useful-maybe-one-time-but-is-always-there IME icon that pops up in the task bar (when the keyboard is being used) has been removed
For people that use Sense as their launcher, there are options to change the icon grid in the drawer to 4x5 / 5x6 instead of the screen wasting 3x4 default
There are very nice looking scrollable color toggle buttons in the pulldown menu for the normal things like wifi, bluetooth, GPS, flashlight, switching between silent mode & normal mode, etc. The toggles can be long-pressed to go directly into the options related to the function of that toggle
The stock messaging app has more options (custom background, colors for the conversation bubbles)
HTC has lowered the overall "boomsound" volume in 1.29 a bit, presumably to correct the popping sounds that people have experienced on earlier firmware builds including the AT&T 1.26 build. In my opinion, even with this lower volume, the phone is plenty loud and the speakers are still louder than my Galaxy S3. There are still ways to increase your volume back up again if you really need it (for example, the faux123 kernel has "faux sound" that can pump up the volume, among other audio tweaks)
There is a brightness mod available to lower the really high default automatic brightness settings a bit, to increase battery life
There is a mod available to temporarily turn on the display when an SMS message is received if the phone's display is off
There is a mod available to wake up the phone with the volume buttons (in addition to the power button of course)
There is a no-pin Exchange mod available for the stock email client that overrides the need for a pin # when connected to a corporate Exchange email system that requires phone security
There is a stock-based kernel available as a choice during the installation that maps the HTC logo as a menu key. Actually I think it really just maps a touch point on the display immediately above the HTC logo, but it is very close to the logo and actually works.
There is a mod available to remove the stupid 3-dot button in apps that still use a menu key. Obviously you would only want to use this mod when you've got something mapped as a menu button (either the back key long-press option or the HTC logo mapping mentioned previously)

Thanks for you post. My HTC One is on its way, and this is the ROM I plan to flash. Can you please elaborate on this last part?
Are you saying that there is a place on the settings menu to select a custom mapping for the menu button? and THEN you flash the mod? Doesn't that sound backwards? Wouldn't one flash the mod which would give you the option of a custom menu button mapping somewhere in the settings menu?

just be patience
it's take times to build a better rom for new device.maybe 3-4month.we can get perfect rom

I heard there's a mod to use the logo as a button. I would turn that into a MENU button.

Really? I thought for sure the AT&T One I had was 1.29. I have the DE now, and its 1.29.1540.3 I guess that would be another reason if you are paying full price to go with the DE.

Q&A..ICS Seraphim--First Flight--Troposhere!!!!!! The Collective

Since its new and will need the Dev thread for bugs and other stuff. thought i would post this.
anyone got it downloaded?
maybe post some Screens?
Sorry still kinda newbish with this question, so apologies if it doesn't make sense:
Does flashing this through CWM update the bootloader/modem that will make this not reversible to one of the GB ROMs? I've got nandroid backups of Stock(+overclock kernel), Saurom, and DAGr8's multi-dpi ICS alpha 2 leak, and I can freely restore them and go back and forth.
If I flash this new one, will that change something on the bootloader level or change my AT&T modem that will somehow mess stuff up and prevent me from switching between those other ROMs? Or will it work fine with all of that?
Thanks
You can still flash to a GB rom
Downloading as we speak

WOW
this is AWESOME! Thank you Collective!!!
what is different about this rom than the base, or the alpha 2 from dagr8? I see that there's the collective tools, but what options are in there? The feature list they have on the main post is hardly descriptive of anything.

Quick question...
Getting into recovery mode... hold vol up AND down, while powering on? Cause I seem to remember trying it once, to see if it would work.. Got some green lettering (didn't read it at the time)... then I believe I just touched the home button, to bypass it... or try to bypass it. Now, I cannot get it to work.
The only thing I've done to my phone is root it, using one of the first roots available... (sorry, I forget the user... same guy who has the overclock root)
Now, I'd like to upgrade to this new ROM, and wonder if I can just upgrade it over the rooted kernal I have now....
I have tried looking around for the answer, and cannot find the exact answer.. So, I figure I'd ask, instead of just guessing...
Thanks

is there any mod for onscreen buttons like the Galaxy Nexus?
Setting everything up now. looks good guys. seems smooth.
time to play with it and see what i find.
thanks Collective.
Coming from Saurom R7.1 GB
So far I've noticed
+Samsung splash screen is nice. Very professional touch
+overall seems smooth and fast.
+Seems very clean and ready for tweaking.
-can't change lockscreen wallpaper.
txwallpaperchooser crashes if it's used to change home or lockscreen wallpaper. And it's the only option when changing the lockscreen.
No 'gallery' Did quickpic replace this?
No splanner -guessing it's not ICS compatible
How do you change device name?
Any FAQ on the Collective Tools? Looks like some neat and dangerous stuff.
Got it flashed looks good. Just low system memory but that seems to be with all the ics Rom

How do you patch is this from cwm?
Flash the zip... Its the gallery3D.apk so you could just extract it, paste it in /system/app and then reboot.
But the zip itself is flashable.

From a powered off state, hold all 3 buttons (both volume and power) the when you feel a vibrate let off the power button keeping bug volumes held.
Now, if you have cwm installed, yes you can just wipe and flash the ROM... If you still have stock recovery you'll need to Intel cwm first.

[Q] change notification toggles

Hi,
I may be being really dense, but I can't find an option to remove/change the toggles in the notification area... I use some (like wifi, bluetooth, brightness), but have no need for ones like power saving, sync etc.
Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

I'm assuming you are on stock rom, if so you cant. Custom roms like Omega have 15 toggle mod you can add or remove whatever you like.

Yes I am currently on stock ROM - I used CM9 nightlies for ages on my S2 but didn't like them as much as the S3 stock. Maybe I'll try Omega (have recently installed the kitchen part of it anyway)
Would you say Megga is better than CM in your opinion?
It's impossible to say if a rom is better or not. I've been using AOKP roms on my galaxy S II but I can now say I like original Samsung roms more on the S III, I even use touchwiz which would've been unthinkable on the S II. I'm on Omega Rom. It's basically stock but with upgrades. Been using other roms for a few hours too because Im a flashaholic but keep Nandroid-ing back to Omega. First time Samsung did a great job on interface IMO
Well that sounds good, I'll give it a go later, thanks
Out of interest, does Omega have the ability to cancel an app by long-press of the back key? That's something I miss from CM9...

No, it doesn't but as you probably know, long press home and press Task Manager let's you kill tasks.
I liked the idea of long press back key, but was never happy with the execution - I was constantly killing apps that I didn't want to by tapping back too quickly. Clearly CM wasn't checking that you were holding back, but rather that it was pressed at the start and end of a certain time period.

Thanks for the reply... I actually used it a lot with CM9 and found it very useful, but not the end of the world to not have it!

Keep Stock Samsung Apps when flashing Custom ROM?

Whats happening Forums,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 running the latest JellyBean ROM from SAM MOBILE,
I'm thinking about switching to a custom ROM but most remove "Bloat Apps' Is there anyway to keep the apps?
Also maybe keep gesturing and things like that?
Please post Helpful replies below.
Sorry, but what's the reason to switch to custom ROM, then?
You can MOD the stock... one of the benefits is to keep the stock apps.

There are many reasons to switch to a custom rom just switching to one gives me a TON of benefits such as
Manually Deodexed
Rooted + Busyboxed + Zipaligned
XXDLID Modem
Siyah 1.6.8 Kernel
ClockworkMod Touch Recovery v6.0.1.2
Super SU v0.97
4 Way Reboot
Extended Toggle
Disable increasing ringtone
Hide sms from call logs
Enabled More Toggle on Stock Status Bar
Center Clock
Shutter Sound on/off
Volume up/down key as Shutter
Exit browser option
Added Call button on Contact
Call Recording
%Circular Battery
CRT effect (with no flicker)
GPS Fast Lock
Colored SPlanner
Popup Browser
Scrolling Wallpaper
Added 4way Rotation
Added Lock Screen Rotation
Support Custom Boot Animation
Fixed Cell Standby issue
Added More CSC (Default BTU)
Activated Smart Rotation
Unplugging from USB doesn't turn on Screen
Auto EFS backup (/sdcard/Darky/EFS)
Bloatwares Removed (You can find the Removed Apps in /sdcard/Darky/App)
Skip Music Track with Volume Buttons Long Press while screen is locked
ROM will wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache
Darky Boot Animation
Some of these i cannot find as MODS,
Part is included in stock roms. Part is available as mod... which one is impossible to find for you?
BTW, some examples are... ridiculous. as an instnce: what for do you need GPS fast lock? My SGS catches lock within 4 secs inside the building... Same, scrolling wallpaper. 4 way rotation... you mean: in 3D space + time?.
Cell standby issue - I did not observed any issue here.

NEW TO ANDROID! Looking for specific ROM.

Hello all,
As the title states, I'm completely new to Android. I've been with the iPhone for quite some time and have recently changed over to the HTC One. Everything is awesome so far, but there are a few annoying quirks I'd like to change to make it perfect. I've done a bit of research, but I guess my searching terms were a bit too specific? I'm looking for a custom ROM that is based on Sense 5 with 4.2.2 and WiFi calling so I can have the option to keep Blinkfeed, Zoe, TV apps and the ability to delete some of the preinstalled programs like Facebook and Twitter. In addition, I'd like to have the option to give the HTC logo wake device functionality. I believe this is done through installing the tbalden kernel? I'm looking at the Trickdroid ROM, as it seems that might be the closest thing to what I'm looking for, but in a video review I watched of it it seemed there was only a wake from volume rocker option. Also, it seems Wifi calling is unavailable at the moment? In any case, if there is something out there that you guys can suggest I'd greatly appreciate it! Thanks!!

I can at least verify a lack of WiFi calling on all 4.2.2 ROMs. We will have to wait for the official T-Mobile ROM to drop or leak to get that functionality.
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
So once the 4.2.2 update comes out for T-Mobile HTC One's, we'll be able to have wifi calling capability with any 4.2.2 ROM ie. Trickdroid? Also, just a quick side question, I'm looking at the Trickdroid page and it says there is an option for the tbalden kernel, which is where the htclogo2wake functionality lies. Does this mean while installing Trickdroid, I'll have the option to install that instead of the stock kernel and have the options to map my HTC logo? Thanks!

To answer your first question, as long as the setup of WiFi calling is the same way as 4.1.2, then I see no reason why it wouldn't work.

Trickdroid is great! I've been using it for quite some time and no issues. I use my cell as my work phone so reliability is big for me - and no problems... I haven't played too much with any of the kernels for the one but you will need to flash it separately. Welcome to Android!

If I remember correctly, Trickdroid uses Aroma installer, which takes you through an install wizard (prone to freezing so don't worry if it freezes, just reboot and retry) and let's you select a bunch of different options, not sure if Kernel selection is included in that or not.
Thanks for the info. I just wanna get all the info I can before attempting my first custom ROM install. That kernel is pretty much the biggest thing I'm looking for, this power button at the top thing is getting a bit annoying.. lol Also, I have an unrelated question that I'm hoping maybe someone here could answer. I couldn't find anything through searching the forums. Are the sound profiles on our phones customizable? Every time I change profiles, I have to change the settings manually. For example, I want the vibrate profile to quiet all sound and just vibrate for everything. However, when I go back to normal and switch back to vibrate, the sound for notifications and alarms are back on. Doesn't this defeat the purpose of profiles??
No 4.2.2 based rom supports wifi calling so far. If you want a customized rom, try viper. You will addict to it.

no. you will have to wait for the update for the rom your on for wifi calling. as far as roms go viper has the most customization by far and arhd is the closest to stock but i recommend viper as you can keep it stock looking or if you want to customize to your hearts content and i mean everything is customizable. and venom hub has the kernels that enable logo2wake and many other options available. happy flashing bro:highfive:
Ok, Thanks! I'll definitely take a look at Viper then. Also, are you saying that it has the tbalden kernel already built into it? As in I don't have to do anything separate in order to use logo2wake?

cool, I'll definitely look into viper. So you're saying that it's based off of the sense UI and looks stock until you start customizing? Because that is exactly what I'm looking for. I want to have pretty much everything stock with the exception of the battery icon in the status bar, logo2wake and some other little things here and there. Also, is there an option to wake the screen when you get a text or notification without having to use a third party app? Seems like such a no-brainer for this to be a part of the phone stock, but for some reason is not.

My favorite Rom is the Google Edition Rom.
I wanted some AOSP but every rom i tried had terrible battery life (like 1% dropping every 3 minutes) with just using web browser. I tried ARHD GE, CyanogenMod, AHRD Sense version, faux kernel, aux kernel and elemental kernel and everything was kind of the same. Now im using Sense based Insertcoin ROM and i must say that battery life is way better and got rid of most of bloatware

Has anyone tried this rom out?

Heyyy,
I'm thinking about flashing this with safestrap on NC5 but I have never really heard much about it. May people running this rom on safestrap tell me if it is totally stable with safestrap? Because it seems like it was not built for safestrap.
Here is the download link http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23501681358541454. I think it is different from this post because googlie may have altered this one

I'm running it and it is mostly stable. It has a few things that don't work
1) The signal bar doesn't display signal strength. The bars are shaded gray but you're getting reception when it says you're not. It does say 4G, 3G, 1X, etc.
2) Dialer crashes from the very beginning. It sometimes works, but most of the time, you'll get the "Unfortunately, dialer has stopped working," error message. I installed Swipedialer Pro to use as my primary dialer. It has an authentic AOSP feel and look.
3) Tethering isn't working for some reason.
4) When you first long-press the power button to bring up the power menu, you'll notice that the phone just reboots! To fix, go to the ROM Customizer app, then go to ROM Settings> System/ Kernel Mods> Powermenu Toggles and enable all the toggles. (GravityBox can also interfere with the power menu for some reason, so I disabled it just to avoid any issues).
5) The Gmail app that comes with the ROM FC's every time. You have to delete Gmail from the /system/app folder with something like Root Explorer, and reboot. Then install Gmail from the Playstore.
6) Sounds settings FC every time. However, you can still change ringtones through call settings. Not really a big issue for me.
I know that sounds like a lot, but other than this, it's actually one of the BEST Roms for the S4. It's actually my daily driver and it's the only rom I've used that is closest to the AOSP feel and look for our phone (I HATE Touchwiz!!!) Lol.

Yes, GDux 2.0 is what I'm running though there is a 2.1 now. I did the slim I believe. It's there highlighted in blue text. Kind of hidden within his words instead of by itself. I'm running it right now. If you want it themed a little differently I have a zip that has everything I like in it. Toggle icons, wifi, data, and various misc. ones. The 2.0 version has round lighted toggles and the icons I like fit right in the middle of those. Looks pretty neat and it enables all toggles as well. I think you need to add a browser and maybe email. I like to put them in the rom before installing because it makes life easier.

Is there a link somewhere for the 2.1 version and is it confirmed working on Verizon?
How is the battery life? I've been most disappointed in all the 4.4.2 KitKat Roms I've tried along with Surges Base rom with the Android System & Android OS taking away a day of battery and an hour of screen time as opposed to 4.3 & Roms.

I don't think any of them can equal or beat a 4.3 but GDux is worth trying and yes I've installed it as well but I just prefer 2.0. You should be able to get it from here. They all have little quirks.
