Hello, so first let me introduce myself. I'm SerkTheTurk and I've had the Galaxy Player 4.2 for a few months. I don't like how the development is very small, so I gathered a few people in an attempt to start a development team. I'd like to start with developing CM7 for the device. Not too big, right? All of this was inspired from TeamSuperNova's development on the 4.0. I believe we could achieve a lot if we work well together . So I just wanted to start a development thread so that our work is more organized.
Right now I'm trying to figure out why the build won't boot. I've used the stock zImage in the build and there's no boot screen at all and I can only access download mode. If someone wants to try making a build just use my device tree with the cm7 repo.
By the way here's my device tree Github
if you have any questions or wanna help out, please add me on hangouts (Google talk). That way it's easier for me to contact you.
UPDATE: I am finally back from vacation, sorry about the project being dead for a month. I will look into making the build boot soon. Thanks

I'm still syncing the CM7 repo because my internet is not that great . Hopefully someone who hasn't heard about the dev team can find this thread and help us out. I'm not that experienced with Android development. But I do know the basics of compiling a ROM so I think I can pull it off . And by the way, anybody who knows a lot of how to compile and everything, please help us when we're stuck :S.
Also, I'm not quite sure if I can post a thread like this in the development section. Pretty sure you can though. If not then please move it mods.

@SerkTheTurk but....why CM7 ? Isn't it a little bit "obsolete" ? We already have GB in our players......and imho a good GB.....

It's good to start out with that as the first custom ROM. That's how most gb devices started in the road to getting ics

You have a repo from your device on github or a device tree on github otherwise you can't build anything!
Galaxy w seems to have similar hardware, doesn't it?
You can base on their work accually I think
Wysyłane z mojego YP-G70 za pomocą Tapatalk 2
The board on the YP-GI1 uses the OMAP 3630 which is the same SoC used by many other devices that have stable 2.3 and 4.X AOSP branches like the N9 and the Motorola Defy
You might want to take a look at the repo of these devices and diff it, also take a look at the OMAPpedia and related pages (Specially related to the Beagleboard) as they might have relevant documentation and even another working copy of Android for OMAP 3
So I just finished syncing the CM7 repo, now I need to build for my device, I can't do that yet though. And btw, does cm7 use its own kernel? or if not, does it use the same kernel version as stock?

yup. you can actually get into legal trouble if you dont put you stuff on github because of GPL. (ironically, samsung violates this)
from http://www.xda-developers.com/android/xda-developers-and-the-gpl/
Recently it has come to our attention that a number of users have been neglecting to follow XDA’s GPL regulations, which amount to posting the sources for any kernel you build from source to share with others.
As a result, we would like to clarify our position on the GPL, and users’ obligations to this effect. By posting your work on XDA-Developers, you are agreeing that it complies with relevant licensing conditions. As such, by posting a kernel or other work containing GPL code, you are confirming to us that you have made this source code available publicly under the GPL, and should highlight this in your thread with a link. (Plenty of respected and trusted sites will host the code for you free of charge, such as GitHub and BitBucket.)
By posting open sourced work on XDA, you are also ensuring that your available sources are up-to-date with the work you have released. This means that if you update your kernel to add a new feature, for example, your sources should be updated to include this change. If they are not, this means you are not complying with the GPL.
There is no provision in the GPL to withhold access to sources based on time or other conditions, so please don’t attempt this, as it will only earn yourself a formal GPL request. If you do not provide the correct, accurate, and up-to-date sources (and keep them up-to-date), you will be non-compliant with the GPL.
In order to be fully GPL compliant, your sources must:
Successfully build and produce a valid output file, which is the same format as provided in the binary
Contain all source code, interface definition files, scripts used to control compilation and installation of the executable (it is not required to include the actual compiler/toolchain, but sufficient information should be made available to obtain the SAME configuration, including compiler flags, as used to build the binary version as released)
The GPL is a legally enforceable license agreement, and while it offers users freedoms to copy and redistribute code, that permission is conditional upon all changes which are released being made publicly available. If you require further advice on this matter, we suggest you review the license itself or consult a lawyer.

Alright so your best bet is to base yourself from the galaxy SL (I9003)? It seems to be the most simillar to your devices.

Yeah I believe it is our best bet. Thanks for the thread on the device specs for each player :good:
So I'm gonna try to base it off of the Samsung Galaxy SL (i9003). Should I try to port it and see what happens?

A port won't be enough. You will need to have a source build. You need some kernel modifications too (or not) in order to get it working.
Your best bet is to use this device tree. I think it's almost ready for all compiling for CM7. Here's the device tree (thanks to dhiru1602 ):

Android Development on Wave 525
Hello, I am a user of Wave 525 and we are working on a mod called Melior for it.Its first version is going to release within a week but I have a different plan for future.Seeing Galaxy Y running some crazy cool games,I thought if my Wave could also do such things. The problem is that our community doesn't have experts who can port android. My team contains some mid level devs and we are trying to port android but the problem is we don't know what we should do to begin with the project. I want some experts to help and guide us in the way of porting android. We would really appreciate any type of help from this community..Wave 525's processor speed is unknown till now but it is expected to be around 350-500MHz,some sources claim 500 and some claim 312 etc.Its internal memory is 283MB.All the specs of the phone is more than many android devices like Spice MI270 etc. Please help us in this project and guide us the way that we should follow.. [Q] Development of Xperia S
I've read a lot that Sony is making a good work about releasing they source code for developers, and Qualcomm is doing the same too, and that makes than Sony devices great for development, i have a Galaxy S2 i9100G that have a chipset that isn't Samsung, A TI OMAP, and for now that makes my devices better for development that the Exynos one, i tho that Xperia S having both sides (Sony and Qualcomm) working great that this device has even better development than my phone, but i wanted to know why still some features are missing and my phone has 4.1.2 fully working even before than Oficial to Galaxy Nexus? My device and all TI OMAPS from samsung were the first phones that get fully working CM10, so that's my doubt! Hope that someone can help me!

[Q] Why CyanogenMod?
I dont understand till now that is there any conflict with sony and cyanogenmod??? why dont cyanogen put xperia p rom in there official site ???? Why, can anybody explain it?
You can say the same for the Galaxy Ace 2... The CM team is snobbish and doesn't dedicate resources for the less popular (hyped) phones, so we only have unofficial builds made by independent programmers!
They do have the link for Percy's thread in their site but they do not officially support it. Like Riccardo said, they support only high end devices with a wide user database. That and they are practically in love with sammy Sent from my Xperia P using Tapatalk
[Q] is it still worth getting the galaxy s3 in 2014?
Hi, I can get a deal offer for the s3 at the price of $233. But I have some questions Is it still worth getting the galaxy s3 in 2014? WIll it get official android L from samsung (there is already official kitkat right?) if there's no official android L, does it have official Cyanogenmod support and so will it get android L cyanogenmod? for future android L custom roms , will there be problems with some drivers? (e.g. my htc desure never got proper camera support on android 4.X roms as the drivers are not available). Are all drivers(and source code) released by samsung for the s3? how does it compare with the galaxy s4? is the latter worth the price difference how is camera (important for me) as compared to smarphones in the same price range available today (e.g. xperia sp, galaxy s4 mini) thx for your time reading my long list of questions and waiting your replies and suggestions guys. Thx
No, no and no, yes and unlikely, yes and no, s4 is better but not by much, camera is good but only on stock rom.
is camera bad on custom roms? and there's no cyanogenmod official support?

Actually on Amazon is very sold its Neo variant with 1,5 GB, but according to me it's a madness: a newer hardware is highly preferable and x64 architecture is coming. 2) Absolutely no and you are wrong: no KitKat official support for S3, why it should be extended to Android L? It's impossible! 3) Yes, it's promised by Cyanogen team, but never more the bull**** did with CM 10.2, working of course on a stable rom to switch to CM 11 nightlies as soon as possible. When CM 11 stable is released, you can stay on CM 12 nightlies. 4) Samsung drivers are already released for custom rom, except for the 2-way call recording. CyanogenMod prefers to use the hybrid and open source drivers, but with a specific BOEFFLA kernel, actually experimental, you can get the official and proprietary drivers, much better than first. 5) Galaxy S4 is obviously greater than S3 under any aspect, its price is about €300-350. 6) S3 has an excellent camera, but in AOSP roms it's not provided of a good stabilization, so pictures are a bit more moving than in stock rom.
Yup I know there are better hardware (obviously.. it is 2 yrs old) but for the price of $233 is it worth it? I don't want to spend more than $300 on a phone.

OfficiallySamsung has updated its update policy so that devices should get 3 major updates, but this updated was made after the Note 8 was released. so this may not be the case with our Note 8. After some search I found a post on MSPoweruser, you can check the post yourself, that the S8 is planned to have the Android 10 officially, and this was said by the Samsung customer service agent. The Samsung agent said: Good day Herr Garde, Thank you for contacting us to the Samsung customer service. Regarding your request for Android 10 I like to inform you. Do not worry. It is planned that also the S8 the android 10 update should get. When this Exactly, I can give you now do not say yet. Therefore I ask you still a little patience. If you have a concern again have, please feel free to contact us! UnofficiallyI did find a lot of S9 Plus port roms for Note 8 on Android 8.0 and Android 9.0 so is it possible to have an S9 or S10 with Android 10 ported to our Note 8 devices? Join the conversationI have created a Telegram group to discuss any thing about our beloved Note 8 and share the latest news easily so if you're interested you're welcomed to join the group via this link : https://t.me/Exy8895Chat If you have any suggestions or any news please tell me
I personally don't think it is likely. And no one should pin their hopes on getting official Android 10. Rumours are just rumours. Me feeling we deserve it is a different matter though ?.
I have a S8+, but yeah a thing that it's probable is a S9/S10 ROM port (highly more possible S9/S9+/N9 since it's more similar to the S8/S8+/N8 than the 10 lines), for example S7 have OneUI ported (Android 9.0) with a NFE Port, and it's the same team that ported S9 roms to S8/S8+/N8 (LightExyKings). Now, when? probably not soon, the devs have to do their things too so I guess it will take some time to make these ports, if, they're possible in the 1st place, we just have to wait sadly

They also almost did the same thing with the Note 10 as it was released with Android 9 while Android 10 is available. One the other hand Apple have been supporting the iPhone 5s till the last year with updates with is actually good for a phone thats 5 years old and its battery is getting bad aka its performance where you really need to upgrade to new phone at this point. I really hope Samsung learns before they lose customers and I really hope more to get they Android 10 update without losing much specially Spass cuz I do really love this device, it has a good Design and performance and mine is still new to upgrade now...
Gent' said: I don't really know how porting roms works but I think even that's not possible because s9 has different chipset so therefore it isn't compatible. As far as i know there aren't any other devices with exynos 8895 apart from s8/s8+/N8. Click to expand... Click to collapse I think they would be able to port it from S9 but its never gonna be stable or even close the an official rom. I think we would see a LineageOS 17 or 18 also but this doesn't solve the One Ui cuz its hard to port. (its not that stable and we will miss some futures from Samsung) if I'm gonna have a stock Android running on my Galaxy I would go rather and buy me a Google pixel or One plus better at least its gonna be more stable as its official and we are gonna have the updates way more faster.

panchovix said: Take it as a Custom ROM, probably if they manage to port it, it will have bugs like non-stock based custom ROMs at first Anyways, the most probably thing is newer LineageOS (Like LOS 17, 18 for Android 11.0, etc), but not OneUI 2.0, 3.0, etc ported sadly S7 had it easier since it had the same chip that NFE that got Pie, but if you search a little in the S6 xda forum, they managed to port a OneUI ROM from Note 8, but it has various bugs, like no HwC, etc Click to expand... Click to collapse They will never port a stable version or at least close to an official rom due to the hardware incomparable-ties which will probable give us the choice to continue using is with One UI 1 or use the ported rom and get used to these bugs or upgrade or phone which Samsung wants us todo but if I'm gonna do this I'm gonna find a company like OnePlus or Apple cuz I'm not gonna do the same thing again with a S10 or Note 10 after they don't update it... The S7 was actually easier cuz of the Note FE which is actually the Note 7 and remember Samsung always make the S and Note the same Chip set each year like the S8 and N8, S9 and N9. but as the Note FE was late it got its update Support father than the S7 (which is capable of running Android 10 One UI 2 until now but Samsung doesn't want to update it as well).
Android Q/10 will be ported quite soon but neither N8 nor S8 will see original firmware from Samsung.
They will be able to bring the functionality of the S pen
there's no android 10 official rom for s8 and note8 by samsung schedule.....(crying~~)
Apparently the will not do an update to 10 for the S8 and Note 8. https://www.sammobile.com/news/samsung-indirectly-confirms-galaxy-s8-galaxy-note-8-wont-get-android-10-update
