hey guys just want to tell you guys my experience with both devices. I have both now for some time and compared them very deeply.
First of all: im not a fan boy of any device! Im neutral! Hope my experience helps deciding witch device.
HTC ONE AND GALAXY S4 (1.9 ghz Canadian model)
now that I used both devices for sometime I can tell you guys they are very different. No question that the ONE is better build and looks better.
The speakers in the front makes truly some big differences. For example if you are on speaker, its more clear and laud compared to the s4. Me my self I don't care that much for looks because I have to wear a case on it anyways because of my job. So if you do, then I can tell you the ONE feels better in the hand, looks better and sad to say it is really sexy. The S4 on the other hand feels not to bad too, its light and a good size, but plastic and it feels cheap. The display on both are great high ppi and look great. I personally have to give this one to the ONE. It just looks more real compared to the S4 that looks more cartoonish. The Cameras on both are really great. The 4 ultra on the one and the 13 mp on the s4 are for sure both very good. In low light it goes to the one and in day light to the s4. There is not really much difference. Now I come to the UI and this made my decision up between these both devices! The S4 with touch wiz is not that much different than the UI on the S3. The crazy thing about it is that it takes almost freaking 8GB of the internal storage. But yes you can use a sd card. Sense 5 is something new to the htc its very simple and in my opinion a little bit too basic. So for me the most important thing is that a device runs fluent without lag and fast! Exactly that point wins clearly THE ONE! it is smoother and more fluent. The s4 runs great don't get me wrong but it just dosnt feel any faster scrolling around then the S3. I probably will get something else to hear from s4 users now BUT I have both devices and use both for quiet some time now!
Im up for any question please ask I have both devices in front of me!
Thanks for the write up. Only question I have is whether you find your apps constantly refreshing or is multitasking working well ?

The biggest complaint for me in comparison to my s4 is that the One is so damn tall. The s4 is easier for me to operate one handed which is especially helpful if I'm driving. Good post

I'm glad I picked up the One even though I didn't know about s4 having a locked bootloader. I have had the Note 1, 2, so I assumed that the bootloader will be unlocked.
If you are in this forum, that fact by itself will make you choose the One.
It's just amazing how much thought was put into this phone. I do wish it had a microsd slot though. HTC could have placed it in the same slot as the SIM card.

Have u actually held both devices?
My wife who has small hands can operate the one much easier than the s4 as it's narrower across the whole phone. Sure the very top may be hard but for the rest of the phone it was easier for her.

I guess I'm going over that cliff with you. I'm loving the One, but I use my phone in my left hand and it's definitely not a one-handed phone for me. I can deal with it, but the buttons all seem reversed for me. Not really a complaint but an observation. Different strokes for different folks.

But yeah, saying a phone is better because its easier on a person to use it while driving is as smart as pouring milk on a bowl of thumbtacks and thinking it's cheerios.

Be patient. It's not easy to out-smart HTC. We can get temp root. That's easy! But the thing keeps rooting itself when we reboot. It's not permaroot but it's a start. Just coming from a Vibrant, I'm glad that I made the switch to HTC! Even without root this phone is much better to use in my opinion.
It took over two months to get S-Off for the Sensation.

As others have said, be patient.
Recently, HTC has made their devices hard nuts to crack, but every one of them has been cracked.
I had a Vibrant and seriously considered getting the SGS2, even after I swore I would never buy another Samsung phone, because of the GPS and update debacles. I went into the T-Mobile store to play with both, first I grabbed the SGS2 and played with it for a while. The first thing that I thought was, "Ok, this is a bigger, faster Vibrant. I don't really want another Vibrant".
Then I picked up the Amaze, and the first thing I thought was, "Holy crap! This thing is beautiful!". After going back and forth between the 2 for about 10 minutes, it was clear to me, that the Amaze was just a higher quality device. It is going on a week of me having it and I have absolutely no regrets.
Sure I'm disappointed that wifi calling isn't supported yet, and that they are starting to play games with wireless tether, but those things are software, which means they can be changed/fixed. What cannot be changed is hardware. The aluminum case of the Amaze feels and looks wonderful. I know there are a lot people gripping about aspects of the screen, but I think it is excellent. Anyone that is surprised that the AMOLED display is a little better than the SLCD, hasn't been paying attention over the last year or so. Just because it's a little better, doesn't mean the SLCD is bad. Because it is bigger than the Amaze screen but has the same resolution, the pros and cons of it pretty much cancel each other out, in my opinion.
Root and S-OFF will come.

Get the Amaze, this phone really needs Nothing More
Feels Good, Looks Good, Great screen and Fast, no lag
I will root and S-Off simply to remove bloat and be able to install some root apps. This is one Fast, Smooth device.
S-Off comes when it comes, the bloat has no effect, just have no use for all that stuff, and want the icons outta here

What worries me is the development section looks quite scarce compared to the Evo 3D or even the sgs2. It's hard to have faith in the developers when there are so very few that have come out and said they have an Amaze.

Gone are the days of 4.3 being big. Now its 4.7 or larger and while I enjoy that size a part of me finds the rezound to be almost perfect for me.
Kinda makes me wish HTC could throw out a 4.3 or 4.5 version of the butterfly out to the market.
I am very much sold on the new HTC coming to Verizon but for me, pocketablity wise the smaller with all the power would be perfect.
Anyone else?
I feel the same way. 4.3"-4.5" is perfect. 4.7" is a bit too big, and 5" is really pushing it.
Bigger the better IMO.

I'm the same, I returned my galaxy nexus and eventually got a rezound. The only thing I miss from the galaxy nexus (other than it being a nexus device) was the larger screen size. I could type fast on it in portrait mode, but I'm always mistyping on the rezound. I don't even have big hands.
I watched the LG CES 2013 trailer video thing on youtube, and general speculation is that the G2 will be announced with a 5.5" screen and bumped up specs from our precious G. What are your thoughts? Will it be a Note 2 competitor, or a G replacement? And how do you think it will affect our updates?

Powerwise yes, but the note has a far larger screen. A 5" + screen would make it a closer competitor. See LG intuition for where I'm coming from.

It's called competition. The Note phones have proven there is a market for phablets. I'm going to guess you're not studying economics or business.

Then I guess this will blow your mind: http://t.co/91c3vTNA
I believe with LG's newfound success regarding the G, a direct attack on the Note would be fantastic, as well as possibly a new tablet. The G2 would fulfill the phablet competition that currently hardly exists. The LG Intuition is too wide, but a form factor like our G with the larger screen would be fantastic. Add a pen display, as well as having quickmemo, and the Note has real competition. Considering LG Displays is suing over the Note 10.1 in Asia, this may indeed be their plans in a nutshell. As HTC slowly falls (sad but apparently true), it's time for Samsung to have a true competitor in the Android market. I would love to see Motorola to come out of the blue, but that seems doubtful to happen. LG has an opening, and I think they should take it. I've been a Samsung fan, and still somewhat am (the siii disappointed me), but I think nothing makes products better like competition. The iphone is competition of course, but there needs to be android competition, or devices will get progressively worse.

... I'm not talking about tablets. If I was talking about screens in general, I would be complaining about laptops, desktops, and tv's as well. But I'm not. It's a personal opinion, and a personal opinion of a few others, that a phone doesn't exactly need a huge screen. To each his own if they prefer that size. Apple has a ridiculously tiny screen, so I'm not really sure why they were even brought up lol. Considering I'm a girl, I have naturally smaller hands and have no desire to hold a phone that I need to doublefist. And even some men agree, it's too much.

Sorry, not trying to be nasty. Just trying to point out that just because you (and for that matter, I) have small hands doesn't mean that everyone does, or that there's only one size that the market wants (as Apple seems to believe). Everyone thought Sammy was crazy for putting the Note out there, but since it and its followup have been very successful, it's only natural that other OEMs want a piece of the action. I'd like the big screen (even if I did have to double fist it), but there's no way I'd be comfortable having that thing in my pocket, and I'll be damned if I'm wearing a holster for a phone.
I'll be honest, I can't reach the whole screen of the OG with one hand, but I don't care. I arrange my icons to be close to my thumb, and use two hands when I have to.
Didn't mean to offend.

Except not, haha. I guess I'm in luck with the whole small hands + long fingers thing (my grandma has always told me I have piano fingers). My only fears of extending my fingers is that it slips out of my hand and falls on the ground. I have a case, but I still use at least one hand to balance it. Can't get too ballsy with this phone.
No new smartphones from LG announced. The tease was a smart remote. Nothing more.

I've been slowly making the switch from my Verizon Note 2 to the HTC One on T-Mobile and I've quickly learned a few things.
1. That initial realization that the Note just can't be compared to any other standard sizes phone. There is no way I could say either the One or the Note is better just because they were designed for two completely different ways of use. But the only thing I'm going to miss from Samsung is the multi-window feature. I'll live without the pen.
2. Removable storage. there was something really convenient about being able to swap SD cards depending on my day. I have a music card and a video card that I would switch out if I was going to work or just vegging on the couch while beaming videos to the tv.
I've seen many times people talking about switching phones and almost immediately coming back to the Note, but there's a more specific switch I had to make in my daily routine to make me not want to come running back. I mean, the One is in no way a small phone, but when set next to the Note, it looks like a 4.3 inch phone. That's where I'm having to make the switch. The fact the my phone needs to be a phone is where the One becomes a better fit for me.
TLDR Peace yall. I'm moving to the HTC One.

What do you mean the phone needs to be a phone?
Were you having signal issues or something?

Yeah, HTC, and Verizon did such a good job keeping the rezound, and the thunderbolt up to date. I hope that this works out for you. I will say that Ihave htc phones, and this one, and the signal isn't that much better. Plus I have never had this phone go into bacon mode like my 6 rezounds.
Today, young ,men on acid realize that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciences sharing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are just imaginations of ourselves And now to the weather.....

Sounded like he was being sarcastic. The rezound took forever to be updated to ics. I had it months before Verizon updated it. I sold the phone before it got that update. Lol I love HTC but the Note owns the One in real world use. But to each their own

I left Verizon in April this year and made that stupid decision to try tmobile again. In fact I too had the HTC one. I loved the phone, so smooth. I just couldn't live with spotty coverage and no signal at my office. I came back to Verizon this month and have the note 2. Everyone tells me that I sound so much clearer and louder than how I sounded on the HTC one. Plus my husband HATED when I was on blue tooth with the HTC one, he said it sounded like I was talking behind a grinder or a blender with rocks in it. Not the case with the note2, very clear. Plus the final straw was not receiving text messages and missing dozens of calls even with a signal. You will be back to Verizon, trust me it's worth every penny!

Two things, both personal opinions:
1. HTC sucks
2. Tmob sucks more than HTC.
The HTC one actually performs very well, just not sure if every HTC one is plagued with poor sound quality with calls. Since I got the note 2 I can't see how I survived with anything smaller. Great screen, love the multi-task feature and the s pen. And yes, t-mobile does suck.

Anyone here with a HTC one who previously owned a Samsung Galaxy phone?
I've been thinking about the HTC One and would like to know your thoughts.
Moved to proper section, please read and respect the rules before posting.
Thanks,

I moved from the HTC Aria to the Samsung Captivate, S2, and S3. I love the HTC One. There are little things like zoom that I don't like, but overall I'm pleased.
To be honest, I probably would have went to the S4, but the physical home button on the S3 turned me away.
They are both great phones and you should be happy either way you go.

I had a galaxy s2 and and galaxy note 1. I loved them both and they did their job nicely.... But.... I just never like the build quality, plastic just doesn't do it for me. I found myself going back to my old HTC inspire all the time just because I like the feel of the aluminium. I caught back and forth between the s4 and the one. I choose the one for a few reasons: the body is awesome, the screen is insane, feels amazing in your hand. I hate buttons, I lactually like the HTC setup of home and back only. The s4 cool features I realized I would never use, only to show off with haha. And most of all for me, the camera on the one in low light is freaking amazing!! I live were there's no sun, so this is a big deal for me. Hope this helps, and go ahead and ask any questions or concerns, I am well experienced in both phones.

Lol I believe everyone had to go through the tough decision between the HTC One and the S4. I sure did...I stayed at BestBuy for about an Hour before I walked out with the One. The phone is incredibly smooth out of the box, very snappy and the screen is beautiful (accurate). The battery is good but it is no Note 2. I guess HTC kept a 2300mAh battery to keep the phone thin. You won't feel any creeks when you hold or squeeze the device unlike the S4. No doubts at all. I also came from the Old Galaxy Note and now, I'm missing the large display. I don't like how the Note 3 looks so I'm waiting for the HTC One Max!

Thank you all! Im glad you shared your thoughts.
The One is the best aesthetically IMHO. Tired of the plastic galaxy phones. Just wasnt sure about battery and GUI.

I like sense a lot better than touchwiz. Battery is pretty good. I prefer the one over the s4.

I just ordered a black HTC One. :fingers-crossed:
Was debating between S4 and HTC One. Wanted something different for a changed, currently using an AT&T Galaxy SII I-777.
HTC One for $120 instead of S4's $150 upgrade price.

It looks better, it feels better, it's more responsive, the screen looks better to me, the audio is better, camera is good(not quite as good as s4). Sense is better to me than tw.
Play with them both. I'd be surprised if you like the s4 better. They're both good phones though. I just think the one is better.

How about flashing roms? The s4 has some issues with mf3 firmware. only root now, no custom recovery.

Our recoveries are all fine. The only issue is if you update your hboot you might have trouble with s-off. But right now there are ways around it. All is good over here and we can use all the international roms as well.

Thanks @xcrazydx. I appreciate your comments. You make a good case for the one. Still loving the rocket though so I'm not sure what I'm going to do. Might just keep it until it dies.

I had the One a couple months ago for a while, have an S4 now. If the two phones could procreate and make one phone with the best features from both, it would be the best. Loved the audio and metal frame of the One, but no removable battery and no MicroSD. I think the S4 runs a lot more smoothly, and has more flexibility with the SD, but rear speaker makes sound quallity ridiculous. Also my biggest complaint right now with Samsung is the MF3 update that locked down the bootloader (aka no custom ROMs). HTC gives you instructions on their website to unlock the bootloader (unless something has changed since I had my One). Albeit I'm still preferring the S4.

I'm not sure how you figure the s4 is smoother. It's definitely got lag and it's choppy. The one does not lag and it's not choppy. I've had both and the one is far better in transitions and feel.
You are right about not having removable battery or sd card. I do miss those from my galaxy devices. That and the button placement are my only complaints with the one.

The One feels much smoother than the S4. Not saying the S4 is slow...but it doesn't feel as snappy as the One. Maybe because all those touchwiz features are memory hoggers.

I found the OS sluggish on the One. I do have to specify I never had the stock rom though. When I got the phone it had been rooted and flashed, although I had installed a rom that was supposedly "stock" with just upgraded kernel. Maybe I didn't get the same experience as you because of that.
Also I forgot to mention the lack of a home button. Ridiculous. I tried the logo2home mod but that's still IMO a major design flaw of the One.
