Phone stuck on boot loop and home button doesn't work - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
I got into a bit of a situation here.. I'm searching for couple of hours already and I can't find a propper solution
I flashed a ROM and it feaild and now I'm stuck on boot loop and my home button doesn't work so I don't have a way to get to recovery mode/download mode.
What can I do ?

You could use a usb jig to force the phone into download mode without having to do the usual key combo method......then try to flash a firmware and start again.....

You didn't say whether the non working home button was as a result of the bad flash or if it failed before this.....
If it failed before the flash, you should be able to purchase the relevant circuit board from somewhere like ebay and replace it.....
Watch the video tutorial in this thread.......
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2241735
it'll show you how to do this (and more)........

The home button was bad already before the flash.
I knew about this device but the point is that it would take me alot of time until I'd get it and I need the phone now. (you probably know how hard is it to be without the phone)

The home button is pretty much crucial. ...so replacing it or using the jig are the only ways I can think of for enabling you to get past the point where you are now. ...sorry fella....it is what it is....
You can get both items off eBay. ...which will take a matter of days...better that than the alternative.....send it to Sammy, which is likely to take weeks....

If u are skilled with electronics, you could make ur own Jig too:

If that were important to you, I find it impossible to understand why you wouldn't have fixed the home button before this happened. Only fools flash stuff on their phones without having a way to recover if it goes wrong (having a fully working phone is integral to being able to recover)

In the end we went to couple of phone stores and we asked someone if they have a usb JIG. eventually somebody had, he plugged it in and then I took care of the rest.

[Q] I9100XWLSJ S2 Bricked

First of all hello to everyone. I'm new to this forum and this thread being my first here.
Phone Details
Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100
Kernel I9100XWLSJ
I recently upgraded my phone to Jelly bean 4.1.2 using this thread . Thanks to Faryaab for that. :good:
Yesterday my phone on a reboot hung up on the samsung logo and wont start. I took out the battery and restarted it. Since then absolutely no power. I tried the 3 button combinations and taking the battery out for a few minutes and trying again. nothing happens. Even tried leaving the phone plugged in to a charger all night but still nothing just the area near the camera on the back warms up a little. When connecting the phone to a computer nothing happens.
So now I'm here for anything else I can check or steps i can do? I read in the other threads in the forum and my understanding is that my phone is sort of hard bricked, correct?
What else can I try? Now as the phone is probably gone I would want to play and experiment with it just to learn. Im based in south America and dont know how many of those JTAG services can I use. My phone is out of warranty also!!
Any help is appreciated!!
Thanks

Ok I will give it a try. These USB JIGs are all the same or there is something specific about them? I mean i have to look for one which is for S2 I9100 or anyone would do?
From a software point of view is there anything else i can try other this JIG?

will a JIG work?
just for the sake of clarification is my phone now hard bricked?
Can it work with a JIG?
Sounds like a brick.
I don't see how you bricked it tho.
You flashed that md5 alone or you added a pit file or something like that?
Sent from the little guy
I followed the instructions from Faryaab's thread to upgrade to Jelly bean from ICS. It worked fine for a month and i had used just a MD5 file. But yesterday suddenly while restarting the phone it got stuck on the samsung white logo screen for quite some time. I took out the battery and inserted again. Since then nothing. No power, no 3 button combinations are working.
I have order a USB JIG also, not sure it will work. Any other ideas?

Sounds like hardware crash.
Keep trying to get to DL mode tho, at least until the jig arrives.

[Q] i9100 not booting up

Hi
I was using stock 4.1.2 but was having some problems of mobile getting stuck in different applications so i when to stock 4.0.4. the mobile booted. i went to recovery mode and did a factory data reset.
now it is not booting at all .. no sign of any life at all
tell me what to do as i am not able to find any jig here in Saudi Arabia
If the phone won't boot into recovery mode (hold home/volume up/power) or download mode (hold home/volume down/power) or won't boot normally after being left to charge overnight, you probably need a motherboard replacement. So either service centre, or do a Google/eBay search & try to find a phone with a broken screen you can take the motherboard from & swap out for the dead one in your phone (ask a local mobile repair shop to do this for you).
Edit - If you can't buy a jig locally, you can find one easily on eBay/elsewhere online (might take you a week or two to get it, but your phone isn't going anywhere). I suggest you try one even tho it probably won't work.
@MistahBungle:
Is this the dreaded eMMC BrickBug?
"To err is human, to forgive is divine"
Sent from my SGS II
I think so. Most of the cases here have involved people with rooted 4.0.4 stock kernels & CWRecovery, but I remember Entropy saying not long after this thing surfaced that he personally knew of one example of stock recovery on 4.0.4 bricking a phone as well (remember this was when it first happened), no doubt since then there have been lots of other 'purely stock' (both kernel & recovery) examples of the brickbug striking that we haven't seen here on XDA.
Based on what the OP has said, it's a fairly logical guess, put it that way.
Claim warranty, just say you factory reset and went off on you.
Drop that you were on 4.0.4.
Outta warranty, go to the store anyway and / or contact samsung.

Yeah you have been hit by the emmc brickbug. Sorry.

Very little chance the jig would work..
If you have warranty, you can claim it. If you don't, you may have to pay for it.

Depends on where the brick bug occured. There are chances that you can recover http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2058683 by changing the memory table and ignoring the effected parts. I didn't try, but just as information.

[Q] Galaxy SII Stuck on Boot nor download or recvoery

Hi there, I have a friends S2 of which i was meant to repair...the symptoms he described the phone having seemed like a fairly simple repair. On the contrary it is rather difficult. I have searched several forums for a possible solution and found none. At first the problem was getting the phone to start or at least charge the battery, later discovered the port was busted so i used external battery charger. Now the phone boots but doesn't pass the initial Samsung logo screen ( the one that shows the phone model and what not). Tried looking around for solutions but only found answers for when download mode is accessible. I have tried several times to enter recovery and download but have had no luck....
PLEASE HELP :crying:

What you have is probably a bootloop.. Are you absolutely sure you can't enter Download or Recovery modes?

Ur next option would be to use a USB Jig, but it seems you can't because of your damaged port.
Come to think of it, even download mode can not help if you cannot use ur port.
Am sorry.. but I don't know what else to do other than taking it to a Service Centre. You might as well replace the port also then.

Hi there...sorry i know its been a while but i had revision to do. Coming back to the phone, the port was replaced and we used a jig (purchased from eBay--XD)
went to download mode, used ODIN v3 1.85 and installed stock rom. After successful install, the phone reboots but then gets stuck at the samsung sII splash screen which the switches off and then reboots to the dead battery trying to charge icon.
any reason as to why this may be happening???
Bootloop.
If you are on any ROM but 4.0.4, go to recovery and wipe cache & factory reset.
You keep getting a bootloop? full wipe and/or nuke script.

Try again. Since the kernel has been flashed successfully, u should have CWM now.
Try removing battery, wait a few minutes, reinsert. Then press and hold volume up button first, then home button and then the power button. Remember to hold all three down until you enter CWM recovery.
Good luck!

I've tried what you have suggested but it seems as though the problem is consistent. I can not access recovery mode...have tried flashing the kernel several times yet i have had no luck.
Aha...you need to flash a ROM then.
I suggest you flash jb leak (only phone, code and csc).
You can either search for it or you can ask neo to provide you the ROM link.

[Q] Soft bricked S2 I1900 w/e [SOLVED!!!!!] !!! (TY XDA!!)

Ok i just rewrote with tech support in mind. I start my phone and the symbol pops up as normal with the yellow exclamtion mark. Then its followed by a a purple seryia ying yang logo and then it goes black. Im not sure if it is shutting off when it goes black or if its still on, i do know that when it goes black my computer is still trying to search for the phone or something (drivers are beign reconized or installing??). So that is what my phone is doing. !!!!!!! I can enter recoverey and download mode. (so hold volume up and down)
When ever i flash a rom i get a black screen, am i flashing the correct rom/kernal??
btw this was caused by trying to simunlock on a nightly cm10, didnt work so thought to flash back but i ****ed up the flash.
pleas help me i start summer school tomrrow and this is stressing me the **** out.
1st-check ur phone's model since u can't even spell it right

Hahah yea sorry I've typed an entire semester on my laptop key board and im trying ot make the transistion to the new spacing. I looked under teh battery (threw out the box unfortunatly) and the modle is GT-I9100M
under that it says A3LGT9100
Go to sammobile.com and download a stock firmware for ur device model, ur region and carrier (if any).
Then enter Download mode, and flash the firmware via Odin.
From what I read, it seems u have flashed a siyah kernel (ying yang logo at boot). What files did u flash till now? How did u try to unlock it?

I am now getting a constant loop and i took the battery out. (the logo sits there and dodesnt do anything. ive tried putting th ebattery back in a coupkle of times even after an hour and w.e)
Could this be hardware? i can still download mode now that it has started looping and i can still go into recovery mode. (so up and down)

Yea i dont think i am any more i have been trying to flash other roms. when i boot i dont get the cyan circle logo. When I turn my phone on now all it does is show the S2 splash screen WITHOUT the yellow exclamation mark now. When i put the battery in even sometimes it just turns on its own and loops the splash screen (like not "loop" but just shows the splash screen steady.)
I took the battery out so it doesnt burn the logo into the screen haha. Thank you for the help, I just started spring classes.
That means you are in stock rom. Which did u flash last?
If its not 4.0.4, try entering recovery and doing wipe data and wipe cache partition.

EDIT: Wow I just reread that forum and it says absolutly nothing about te NAND write errors OO_ sorry for posting that.

Did you Soft-Brick it? If so,then just simply plug in the USB jig,and then it will enter download mode. From there you can download a new firmware via Odin. But make sure your battery is charged. After flashing Stock ROM (I recommend ICS 4.0.3,since the 4.0.4 has some bugs when flashing kernel),just do a Full Wipe in recovery.

Do what Immortalneo said - tho don't try & swap the motherboard out yourself; pay a local mobile shop to do it. Will be cheaper than paying an authorised repairer to put a new one in.

The only reason you would need an older bootloader to use a jig on is if you wanted to remove evidence of flashing custom roms to get a warranty repair.....bearing in mind that EVERY s2 in existence now is more than 2 years old, that isn't an issue. The jig will work in your case, simply to force the phone into download mode, and is only necessary if the button press combination doesn't work. Try pressing (and holding) Power, Home & Volume Down buttons at the same time, then releasing ONLY the Power button when the device begins to start.....
If that works, the jig isn't needed.

Have you tried powering the phone down (removing the battery if necessary) then (after putting the battery back in if you removed it) using the button combination on the phone from powered off?
Basically shut the phone down however you can, and while the device is powered off, try the button combination.....
If it doesn't work after multiple attempts, then the USB jig is the only thing that will help. There are (at least) *some* signs of life with your phone, so download mode should be accessible. I'd advise against trying to make your own jig, you can get them ready made for less than pocket change from eBay......

I did it, flash a firmware but it's in the boot animation now and it seems that it has taken too long time than normal,it was a ORANGE phone, so I flashed a orange 4.0.3 firmware from sammobile, the official page of Samsung.

Is it still trying to boot?.....
If it is, turn it off and then boot into recovery with the other button combination (Volume UP, Power and Home buttons) then wipe cache and data. Then try and reboot as normal.
