Did you Soft-Brick it? If so,then just simply plug in the USB jig,and then it will enter download mode. From there you can download a new firmware via Odin. But make sure your battery is charged. After flashing Stock ROM (I recommend ICS 4.0.3,since the 4.0.4 has some bugs when flashing kernel),just do a Full Wipe in recovery.

Even the USB Jig doesn't power it on?
Then it's a hard brick.
Either JTAG or take it to service centre.

A jig isn't going to work. Your phone is busted. Take it to a service centre.

Thanks... I tried but nothing happens. By the way.. I took my phone to a service center and since then the power button feels stuck. I couldnt observe it when I was taking back my phone. Is it a problem if the power button is stuck when plugging USB jig?

You can try to get a 2nd hand mobile (like with a broken screen) and use its motherboard.
"To err is human, to forgive is divine"

That isn't somehow magically going to make the jig work.
Do what Immortalneo said - tho don't try & swap the motherboard out yourself; pay a local mobile shop to do it. Will be cheaper than paying an authorised repairer to put a new one in.

The only reason you would need an older bootloader to use a jig on is if you wanted to remove evidence of flashing custom roms to get a warranty repair.....bearing in mind that EVERY s2 in existence now is more than 2 years old, that isn't an issue. The jig will work in your case, simply to force the phone into download mode, and is only necessary if the button press combination doesn't work. Try pressing (and holding) Power, Home & Volume Down buttons at the same time, then releasing ONLY the Power button when the device begins to start.....
If that works, the jig isn't needed.

Have you tried powering the phone down (removing the battery if necessary) then (after putting the battery back in if you removed it) using the button combination on the phone from powered off?
Basically shut the phone down however you can, and while the device is powered off, try the button combination.....
If it doesn't work after multiple attempts, then the USB jig is the only thing that will help. There are (at least) *some* signs of life with your phone, so download mode should be accessible. I'd advise against trying to make your own jig, you can get them ready made for less than pocket change from eBay......

Excellent news....now all you have to do is use odin to flash a firmware.....
Not ICS 4.0.4 though.....There is a bug in that version of the available firmwares that can permanently kill an S2.....

Is it still trying to boot?.....
If it is, turn it off and then boot into recovery with the other button combination (Volume UP, Power and Home buttons) then wipe cache and data. Then try and reboot as normal.

First of all hello to everyone. I'm new to this forum and this thread being my first here.
Phone Details
Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100
Kernel I9100XWLSJ
I recently upgraded my phone to Jelly bean 4.1.2 using this thread . Thanks to Faryaab for that. :good:
Yesterday my phone on a reboot hung up on the samsung logo and wont start. I took out the battery and restarted it. Since then absolutely no power. I tried the 3 button combinations and taking the battery out for a few minutes and trying again. nothing happens. Even tried leaving the phone plugged in to a charger all night but still nothing just the area near the camera on the back warms up a little. When connecting the phone to a computer nothing happens.
So now I'm here for anything else I can check or steps i can do? I read in the other threads in the forum and my understanding is that my phone is sort of hard bricked, correct?
What else can I try? Now as the phone is probably gone I would want to play and experiment with it just to learn. Im based in south America and dont know how many of those JTAG services can I use. My phone is out of warranty also!!
Any help is appreciated!!
Thanks

Ok I will give it a try. These USB JIGs are all the same or there is something specific about them? I mean i have to look for one which is for S2 I9100 or anyone would do?
From a software point of view is there anything else i can try other this JIG?

will a JIG work?
just for the sake of clarification is my phone now hard bricked?
Can it work with a JIG?
Sounds like a brick.
I don't see how you bricked it tho.
You flashed that md5 alone or you added a pit file or something like that?
Sent from the little guy
I followed the instructions from Faryaab's thread to upgrade to Jelly bean from ICS. It worked fine for a month and i had used just a MD5 file. But yesterday suddenly while restarting the phone it got stuck on the samsung white logo screen for quite some time. I took out the battery and inserted again. Since then nothing. No power, no 3 button combinations are working.
I have order a USB JIG also, not sure it will work. Any other ideas?

Hi there, I have a friends S2 of which i was meant to repair...the symptoms he described the phone having seemed like a fairly simple repair. On the contrary it is rather difficult. I have searched several forums for a possible solution and found none. At first the problem was getting the phone to start or at least charge the battery, later discovered the port was busted so i used external battery charger. Now the phone boots but doesn't pass the initial Samsung logo screen ( the one that shows the phone model and what not). Tried looking around for solutions but only found answers for when download mode is accessible. I have tried several times to enter recovery and download but have had no luck....
PLEASE HELP :crying:

Ur next option would be to use a USB Jig, but it seems you can't because of your damaged port.
Come to think of it, even download mode can not help if you cannot use ur port.
Am sorry.. but I don't know what else to do other than taking it to a Service Centre. You might as well replace the port also then.

Hi there...sorry i know its been a while but i had revision to do. Coming back to the phone, the port was replaced and we used a jig (purchased from eBay--XD)
went to download mode, used ODIN v3 1.85 and installed stock rom. After successful install, the phone reboots but then gets stuck at the samsung sII splash screen which the switches off and then reboots to the dead battery trying to charge icon.
any reason as to why this may be happening???
Bootloop.
If you are on any ROM but 4.0.4, go to recovery and wipe cache & factory reset.
You keep getting a bootloop? full wipe and/or nuke script.

Try again. Since the kernel has been flashed successfully, u should have CWM now.
Try removing battery, wait a few minutes, reinsert. Then press and hold volume up button first, then home button and then the power button. Remember to hold all three down until you enter CWM recovery.
Good luck!

I've tried what you have suggested but it seems as though the problem is consistent. I can not access recovery mode...have tried flashing the kernel several times yet i have had no luck.
Aha...you need to flash a ROM then.
I suggest you flash jb leak (only phone, code and csc).
You can either search for it or you can ask neo to provide you the ROM link.

May I have the link to download JB leak for s2 please...possibly with a small brief tutorial guide please....thanks in advance
Hey,
I got into a bit of a situation here.. I'm searching for couple of hours already and I can't find a propper solution
I flashed a ROM and it feaild and now I'm stuck on boot loop and my home button doesn't work so I don't have a way to get to recovery mode/download mode.
What can I do ?
You could use a usb jig to force the phone into download mode without having to do the usual key combo method......then try to flash a firmware and start again.....

You didn't say whether the non working home button was as a result of the bad flash or if it failed before this.....
If it failed before the flash, you should be able to purchase the relevant circuit board from somewhere like ebay and replace it.....
Watch the video tutorial in this thread.......

it'll show you how to do this (and more)........

The home button was bad already before the flash.
I knew about this device but the point is that it would take me alot of time until I'd get it and I need the phone now. (you probably know how hard is it to be without the phone)
The home button is pretty much crucial. ...so replacing it or using the jig are the only ways I can think of for enabling you to get past the point where you are now. ...sorry fella....it is what it is....
You can get both items off eBay. ...which will take a matter of days...better that than the alternative.....send it to Sammy, which is likely to take weeks....

If that were important to you, I find it impossible to understand why you wouldn't have fixed the home button before this happened. Only fools flash stuff on their phones without having a way to recover if it goes wrong (having a fully working phone is integral to being able to recover)

Hi there,
Firstly sorry if I have posted in the wrong place, i'm not too good with forums and or technology. About two weeks ago, my sister had passed me down her old Samsung Galaxy S2 which she had been using for more than a year. She's had no problems with it what so ever. Up until today, I was browsing the internet, when the internet 'app' crashed and gave me a pop up saying 'internet browser has stopped responding' or something to that affect. It then followed by a black screen where I was not able to do nothing apart from stare at the screen. I popped out the battery, waited a couple of minutes and put it back in. The screen came on with the Samsung logo, but nothing happened from there on, it was frozen. So I repeated the process one more, and now the phone does not turn on at all! I really hope someone can help me out here.
The phone has never been rooted/flashed or had anything done with it.
I have tried leaving the battery out for a couple of hours, still nothing.
I've also swapped batteries and nothing happened.
Tried booting in recovery/download mode and nothing happened either.
I've also tried connecting it to my PC where nothing happens.
I'm hoping someone can help me here, I've only had the phone for two weeks and it's already broken! My sister had it for a year and no problems! Bump.
Thanks in advance,
So can you boot into recovery or download mode? Without either of those two there's nothing you can do apart from take it to a service centre. If you have download mode then you can flash a stock ROM using Odin.
Else, do you have warranty still as it's a year old? If you do, take it to the service centre under warranty.

Thanks for the quick reply, unfortunately none of those methods worked for me, i'll try the USB jig and report back. If that doesn't work i'm guessing the motherboard is the problem right? Is Samsung able to repair the phone for me even if its out of warranty but with a cost? If so, how much do you think it will cost?
Thanks
You tried all of them in 15 minutes? Give them another go, it can take a few goes sometimes if you don't get it quite right. Otherwise, yes try the jig, but don't pin your hopes on it. Yes, they can repair it. The other (cheaper) option is to buy a handset with broken screen off eBay or similar and switch your motherboard. I'm sorry, I don't know the costs :/

A little solution
Plug in ur usb to the PC as the device is off....it should remain off for this...
Plug in and see if its charging via pc.....As for it to charge..it has to go through the repair which happens internally without you need to do anything...
A triangle should appear before charging icon appears..As it appears,, just right after that flash ur rom via odin disconnect dont boot now wait n again do the usb charging trick.....
Then boot it should probably be working up again..Well it worths for a try.......
Do it n post it.
Tried rooting my s2 using odin. went into download mode then connected the phone. and clicked start. according to the instructions for rooting from youtube , it said the phone would restart after it said PASS on Odin. After it showed PASS it didnt restart even after a very longtime. so i disconnected.
Now i get the samsung logo with a triangle below. I m able to go to download mode.
Pls help guys

Did you check the AUTO REBOOT option in Odin? Did you try to remove the battery for a couple of minutes and reboot?
Yellow triangle is normal
PLEASE READ THE FAQ said:
Q4: When I turn my phone on, I see a yellow triangle. What is it and how can I get rid of it?
It will appear if you have flashed a non-official kernel from download mode. If you flash kernels using CWM recovery, Mobile Odin etc. you won't get this yellow triangle.
The easiest ways to remove it are to use the app Triangle Away OR use a USB Jig.

I had the same problem about 7 months back and did as you suggested, was able to recover the firmware.
Now, I am facing the same problem today, my device started and was stuck on the Samsung Galaxy S2 logo.
Did the same thing again, the animated android logo appeared, and after some time the device was off.
I have been trying to get the device to switch on , but to no avail, the device is not even powering ON.
Device info: Unrooted , OS: 4.1.2
Please advice. Kindly treat this as urgent.
Many thanks in advance.
Best regards,
Siddharth

Phone not booting at all/charging/no signs of life = Samsung service centre or local mobile repair shop for diagnosis. Nothing anyone here can suggest beyond that if the phone won't even bootloop or be in a state where it's 'user fixable'.

Sorry For the late reply.
I guess, you need to boot in recovery
with home + power+vol up
and clear data and reboot
if that doesnt help.
try booting in download mode again and flash the firmware.
but let it charge first.
and post here

Tried everything , the phone is not even powering ON.
I checked with service center , they are asking INR 8000 to replace the motherboard.
I'm instead thing of buying S4, should I ?
please advice guys.
My phone is dead too...
I left it on (functioning normally) and went for a bath, when I got out it was dead...
From functioning ok to nothing in a few minutes, I don't have any idea why. Is it really the motherboard?
Fact: Electronics breaks. All the time. All electronics.
MJDdeLacerda - Take it to a local mobile repair shop for diagnosis, unless you're experienced with this type of electronics, nothing you can do.
Hello, my friend has a Samsung Galaxy S2 (international) like me. Mine however is flashed with CM10.2 and it's running fine. His however has problems.
Since he rooted his phone (With CF-root) he didn't have any video meaning he couldn't watch YouTube, or make video's, pictures etc.
A few weeks later his phone didn't boot up anymore.
I know how to fix this, which is just a simple factory reset or either flash stock JB. The problem is though he has some important stuff on his phone. Am I able to save his important files? For example some documents (pictures & video's don't get delete, I know that) smses, phone numbers, etc.
Please provide more details such as which firmware he is on now, and whether root was successful with cf root. Does the phone no longer power up? Can he access recovery and download modes?
If he has CWM, you could take a nandroid backup, transfer it to a PC and extract his data from it.
Or u could always use adb to pull his data, provided USB debugging was turned on.

He was on the stock JB 4.1.2 XWLSD. I contacted him and it seems that he cannot enter recovery mode anymore, neither can he acces download mode. The root with CF-Root was succesfull. He had superuser & CWM app as CWM recovery installed.
The phone started doing a little bit weird before he went to sleep. When he woke up, it did nothing anymore.
He also tried charging his phone for about 2 hours, and while charging entering recovery & download mode. Nothing happened.
Could this mean a dead motherboard? If not, am I able to acces download mode with my USB JIG?
Hang on. You said the phone was bootlooping. And you also said the phone is dead. It can't be both; this isn't a 'Schrödinger situation' - it's one or the other.

If the phone shows no signs of life, even after using a USB Jig, it would mean a trip to the service centre and possibly motherboard replacement. You could also swap mobo's from a second hand S2 (like with a cracked screen or something). But its very unlikely that a phone will simply get hard bricked!
Try a JIG and see. Also try another battery too.

Yes, that was before he gave me more information. I assumed it was a bootloop, it however seems that his phone is dead.

It indeed seemed weird to me too. I tried my battery in his phone and it also did not power on, and I could not acces recovery nor download mode. I used a JIG and to me surprise that did nothing too. It seems that his phone is dead, in quite an odd way. I never experienced anything like this before, that a phone simply get's hard bricked, just like that. Without doing anything to his phone.
A service center is no option for him, probably the mobo will be replaced but since he has no warranty the expenses would be pretty high.
He's getting a new device, an S3. Only thing that upset him is that he won't be able to recover his pictures of his deceased grandparents.
Anyway, thanks for thinking a long!
