I came from a 4.1.1 ROM and I backed up and formatted my card to Fat32,I'm now running this ROM and now my card isn't allowing me to restore anything from it, I can see it but can't do anything with it, no error message or anything.... I'm so confused... Please help ASAP
If you switched to a 4.2.x rom you wont be able to restore anuthing due to where 4.2 roms store info... due to the multi user modes.

So finish that explanation. OP check the cm10.1 thread. In the op is a downgrade zip. Flash that then restore your backup

I'm confused, what ROM are you on and what ROM, are you wanting to go to? as far as your pictures, all that is so on your sd card and will be if you flash that zip fin the cm10.1 thread. They are just stored in different directories. The 4.2 ROMs have different directories then 4.1to make multi user possible. So before going any further answer my last question and we'll get you straight.

Now then guys... i am thinking about rooting my phone to put jelly bean on my samsung galaxy s2 .... i was just wondering views on which is the best one to go for ( LINKS PLEASE ) and is it easy to do you know the usual questions you will have heard them before lol IM A NEWBIE !!!
Cheers People
Download Siyah 3.5.2.
http://www.gokhanmoral.com/gm/2012/07/29/siyahkernel-s2-v3-5/
Tar for Odin.
Then use this guide.
http://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-s2-i9100-root-android-4-0-3-ics-xwlpd-88120/
Nevermind it says Cf-root. I flashed my Siyah kernel that way.
After that, flash any rom you want in recovery. Just do a Nandroid backup in recovery and backup apps with Titanium backup from Market!!!
Sent from my Galaxy S2 GT i9100
Don't restore apps after flashing newer ROM, cause your phone will bootloop.
Better create text file and write names of installed apps.
Im not sure why everyone is worried about backing up there apps ive flashed about a 100 roms and never had to back them up cause if u go to the play store under my apps there always there
Infact there are apps there id forgotten about just pick which ones u want and re install .some roms auto instal them for u .make sure you have a google acc obviously!

Only if the application is on the external memory card then it's backed up there. Otherwise they'll loose the data if that's not the case.

If you restore from google play, you loose all your app settings and you will have to reconfigure each app.
Also, Google Play will not show apps installed offline (apk)
Restoring app data with third party app like titanium backup is safe if app is compatible with the target rom

in order to install a perticular custom rom , all u have to do is to follow the install instruction's of the same in there OP. and the same applies to all other roms also.
since installation instruction do vary from one custom rom to another
Jasper, you are better to read up on things so you are familiar with the processes of like rooting/kernels/roms/cwm/Odin/troubleshooting.

I recommend the app SD maid, when I first started using safestrap I was only able to have my stock ROM and ROM slot 1,didn't have enough storage to even create ROM slot 2 so I manually deleted files, and was able to create the second one but kept getting the annoying low volume space message so I deleted more files and messed something up (I'm a relative noob) had to go back to stock with dru and start over. Long story short with SD maid I'm running stock plus roms on slots 1,2,and 3!you may want to get a 32 gig SD card also, good luck

I have taken the e975 international Optimus G official rom by avatar and ported it to our AT&T E970 until they make an official build for us. this rom is pretty bad. the theme options are much like Miui and they have many great features built into it.
Go to their website for the full low down on the rom and to request new features and themes and if you are a themer please make some of your themes available on their format.
Avatar Rom
I'll add the full details later tonight i'm in a rush for a BBQ and cold beer this afternoon but saw the avatar admin said i could post this port up and wanted to get it out to you all
I used our CM10.1 as a base so its using the cm10.1 kernel and any other kernel that ran on it should run on this but i have not tested it yet so beware and make backups
I used BANKS Gapps and have had no problem yet.

I was able to successfully root my fiance's l769 thanks to user captaincrook's thread about a method brought about by, i believe, user jcase. My question is, will I still have to use the method in d33ps1x's tutorial for using link2sd if i flash a custom rom??
captaincrook - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2338816 this worked amazing for rooting if anyone still needs to root. I used it for a T-mobile and it was super succesful and was rootchecker verified.
d33ps1x - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432459 i actually used this method and it appeared to work great by partitioning a portion of the external sd to ext2 format. i'm not really sure if i should have used ext2, ex4 or fat32 but i went with ext2 and it seemed to work out alright. i was able to swing something like 40 apps/the data from the apps over without too many problems (the sd card got a little soggy recenty so it's been acting finicky so we removed the partition and reformatted back to a primary fat32.
but...would i still have to use that method if i flashed a custom rom like cm10.1 or miui or aokp?

OK so i have searched for info on increasing the internal memory of a galaxy ace s5839i and there seems to be a lot of info regarding partitioning so i downloaded minitool partition and created a partition on the SD card then used link2sd but this isn't really doing anything, when i try and download new apps larger than the available storage which is 25mb it comes up with the insufficient storage sign and when trying to link the internal apps that came with the phone it just says failure so i would greatly appreciate any help anyone can offer me as i am doing this as a favor for someone and they are picking the phone up tomorrow
Try re-Partitioning ur Ace, This time. Use CWM.

Ok i have now linked most of the apps that came with the phone other than system apps and it freed up 90mb which is a big step up from 30mb i had before partitioning however when i download new apps they are not auto linking despite having checked the auto link box and when i do auto link i have to reboot the phone every time to make it take proper effect. Also downloaded apps use up less memory when i move to sd card rather than linking

Been playing around with link2sd and i am impressed its working great the internal memory from the phone keeps changing for some reason that's why i thought it was still taking up a lot of memory but once the phone is rebooted it balances itself out however the apps are still not auto linking i am putting this down to apps automatically downloading to the sd card rather than internal memory so link2sd is unable to create a link for this, any advice on why this is happening will be greatly appreciated

Some apps are usually installed on SD Card. Sadly Link2SD can't link the apps installed on SD Card. Hence you have to move such apps to Internal memory in order to link them. Also because you are using the stock rom which has no init.d support, you have to reboot everytime for your internal memory to stabilize. If you want to install as much apps as you want, then try CronMod Unofficial Script. But for this you need init.d support. CronMod Unofficial will not work on stock rom. All custom roms have init.d support. Just download any custom rom from the link given in my previous post. Download the CronMod Unofficial.zip from the link below. Now go to CWM, do Format data/ factory reset, Format cache partitions, Mounts & Storage> Format /system & Format /sd-ext, Advanced> Wipe Dalvik Cache. Now mount /system from Mounts & Storage and then install the rom from SD Card. Now remount /system and then install Cronmod Unofficial.zip from SD Card. Done! Just reboot and you can see that your internal memory has increased. Now you can install any number of apps as long as you have free space on the ext partition. Make sure to install only necessary apps as installing a lot of apps will ultimately slow your device. Here is the link,
Cronmod Unofficial
Hope I Helped
