I activated the Note 48 hours ago and the VZW webpage still shows me on unlimited. Do they typically start the new plan at the beginning of the next bill cycle, or did I somehow get lucky? Thanks
maybe when the billing cycle ends
Not me. I'm getting billed for my data usage over 2 gigs. And I'm now at 11.2 gb. That's 9 gigs over at $10 extra/1 gig. Ouch. I upgraded in store so it appears my new plan went into effect immediately.

Bump. Anyone else? I'm still on unlimited, but my new bill cycle starts tomorrow.
Its weird, I'm already on my next billing cycle and it still shows unlimited data still. I did the pre-order through the VZW website. I'm keeping my mouth shut until they realize it lol

You might actually get to keep it. I upgraded to a SGS3 shortly after it came out, but way after the cutoff to keep unlimited officially. I never lost it then.
I ordered the SGS3 through Verizon's website. I also ordered the GNote 2 on their website. I wonder if there's something special about the way my line is configured or the way I'm activating my phone that's causing this.
When I received the GNote I didn't go through any activation process and I didn't use the SIM they sent me. I just yanked the SIM from my SGS3 and popped it in the Note. I will be very happy if I wake up tomorrow and still have unlimited.
FWIW I first added this line about 2 years ago when VZW first got the iPhone and was offering unlimited data with it. Can they not take away unlimited while I'm still in contract?

Yea could be because we didn't switch sim cards. I did the same thing and just took my sim out of my razr and stuck it in the note 2. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

IIRC that's what I did with the SGS3 too.
Just started a new cycle, still unlimited and also ordered through vz website. Who knows?

May I ask how you activated your phone? Did you just pop in an already activated sim card to the Note?
I upgraded at a Evo2 Store (Another branch of Verizon, but still a Verizon store) and I upgraded yesterday and I still have my unlimited data.
That's supposed to be impossible. Now I cannot speak for the automated system, but Verizon's eROES system we use will force you to drop unlimited data and add on a the 2GB package. The only way around this is to use another line's upgrade and then do a device swap.

That'ls pretty sick if you got away with it, I must admit. There must be some inconsistencies with their online activation systems, but I can tell you that anyone using eROES to process an upgrade on a line with an unlimited package will be forced to downgrade. I do this every day.

It's effective on the date the upgrade is processed, also the new start date of your contract. However, it is not back-dated, which means you won't receive any overages if you had used more than 2GB already. Your data usage will reset as per usual on your billing cycle date.
It's after midnight here but it still hasn't clicked over to the next bill cycle. Would really like to see it stay unlimited so I can go back to abusing the 40 meg LTE I get here in Saint Louis lol

You said you purchased your phone a few days ago, correct? Did the Verizon site say anything about you losing unlimited data when you ordered your phone? Are there any additional lines on your account and are they still under contract? If they do downgrade you and they didn't inform you of the change I would call and raise hell. Threaten to return your device, reverse your upgrade, and terminate your service.
Watch them add a exception note to your account.

It definitely warned me I would lose unlimited when I placed the order on the 19th of last month. I had come to terms with being on WiFi all the time. It's available both at home and work, so it would have been manageable.
But, heck, if the don't take it away again I will not complain. Just wish I knew what I did that was special.

My wife (iphone) and I (Nexus) both have unlimited on Verizon. She is eligble for an upgrade. I planned on upgrading her line to the note2 and going home and swapping them around to give me the Note2 and reactiving her iPhone on her account..thus techincally giving me the phone I want while keeping my unlmited...
i have read elsewhere that it needs to be on the upgraded line untouch for 6 months....?
Will this not work. . . . .. ?
Seems odd....can't find any documentation around that. . .

Sorry..figured I'd start a new one b/c it was a little different top..and seen a number of people asking this question...
You're reply from other post:
This is wrong info bro. Do exactly what you said, get a new sim, and you can have the phone activated in less than an hr. It may cost you $5, but it'll work. I've heard sometimes VZW won't let you switch an unactivated upgrade to a new line because the sim is attached to the #, so I activated my phone on one of my other lines that I used the upgrade on, got a new sim and was good to go.

Thing that is funny is that I was told and.."oh, they can charge you the full retail price".
you can do it after 24hrs, That's how I got my Note 2, just swapped with the wife.
Only if you buy the phone from somewhere other then a corporate store. You HAVE to keep the keep the phone on the urgraded line for 181 days. So just stay away from best buy, wally world, etc. And it will be fine.

I've been doing it in the store. The reps handled everything. They actually have a name for. No penalties and shouldn't cost you anything

I was actually told that from a non-corporate store (http://cellular-only.com)
I asked if it was a Verizon 'rule' or theirs and he said Verizon...
So, do the secondary retailers have their own user agreements. . .. . ?
Yes. Same rules as online mobile sellers. Look at the terms on wire fly.com

place like wirefly or amazon wireless will have such rule (including walmart / bestbuy etc).
but if you directly buy from verizon, you can swap it even immediately after.
which was what I did for some lines. no penalty and unlimited plan stays.

Right. I think "Premium Retailers" are the same as Walmart/Amazon/WireFly. I have read elsewhere that Best Buy doesn't have the 181 Day thing. Just throwing that out there...

I did exactly what you want to do.
I used an upgrade on my daughter's line (she has a feature phone) and put the Note 2 on it.
I've done this whole thing before with other phones/numbers on my account and it's never been an issue. The guys said sure, we can use your daughter's upgrade and put the phone on your acct... so he started doing it.
I said wait a minute.. just to verify, you are NOT messing with my data plan right? He said, of course you'll lose unlimited.
UNACCEPTABLE!
He said.. the only way to do it is to put the Note 2 on her line.. and walk out of the store with it.. what you do after that is your business. In other words, they would not switch the SIM for me.
So, I let them activate her line with the Note 2.. left the store and swapped the SIM as I took my 2nd or 3rd step out of the store. lol No 60 mos, or 24 hours.
I was lazy and didn't re-activate my daughter's phone for a day or 2, so she had my Nexus. I then went online and switched her line back to her feature phone.
SO, yeah, it worked just fine. I now have an AMAZING phone and kept my unlimited data!

it was my first phone w/ a 4g sim. like i said, get the phone... activate it... and buy a new sim unless you want to wait 24 hrs. I didn't have any luck with VZW helping me with this, so i just bought another sim and activated it on that line. they told me the line i used to upgrade HAS to activate the phone first. so i activated/sim was locked in with that # for 24 hrs. i said can i just buy a new sim? they said sure, bought a new sim and set it up there.

So whats the significance of this 24 hours then?
Is it possible to wait out the 24 hours and use the same SIM card to swap numbers?
Also, why do you keep discussing buying SIM cards? They're 100% free. You can walk into a store and get one, and a much easier way imho is to get one online. Just do everything yourself.
But please explain to me the above topics as I am doing EXACTLY what you did pretty much. I added 2 lines to my account, both have tiered 2 GB data plans, me and my wife have unlimited on our primary lines, we bought the Note 2's on the new lines and they arrive tomorrow.
My plan is to activate them on my primary lines with unlimited data and place 2 dummy phones on the new lines so I can remove the data plans.
Hows this process going to go then? Can I just activate the Note 2's using the provided SIM's for my primary lines? Or do I HAVE to activate them on the new lines first?

Sims are tied to phone numbers. Activate it on new line, then go to store and st you want to try it on your other line and need a SIM for it. They can swap them. Did this between iPhone and thunderbolt for the wife

if you only have one sim they aren't able to switch the phone # attached to the sim instantly. it takes some time to be able to do it. the fix for this is go buy an sim card. obviously if you have one attached to your other phone already, do not have to worry about buying a new sim.
pretty much do this, turn them on, let them activate ( i tried to let vzw switch the imei # to my line before activating, and they said the phone HAS to be activated on the other line first ), then went to the store and bought a new sim/switched out the sim cards and i was able to use my phone.
I have a HTC One in my hand 1 day after finally getting an order thru (5 calls after the original web order). Shipping speed was astoundingly good.
Here's my situation: I am switching from Sprint to TMO and have 2 months left on Sprint contract. I have not yet activated my TMO SIM. The plan I chose was the non-contract, Simple Choice.
I have an offer from HTC to trade in my Sprint phone for $100 rebate, and an offer from TMO for a $50 rebate (the $100 is dated which is why I hurried and am dealing with potential overlap).
Will I be charged monthly by TMO for service if I haven't yet activated the SIM? Does the charge start the day I activate the SIM? What are the downsides to waiting a month or 2 on this?
I think that with people switching to TMO in droves with these new phones out, this question will come up.
My understanding, service does not start until SIM is active.
Thanks, that makes sense. The sim card itself says "must activate by 2015"
How much did you pay for the phone? If you paid 580 you will get charged b/c your on a post paid service. If you paid 650 you are most likely prepaid and will have to pay your service when you activate the sim.
The date on the sim means nothing to consumers it is internal use.
Hope that helps

I switched to tmo postpaid a few months ago and they billed me for the few days my SIM card was in the mail. You could call them from your Sprint line to be sure but I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that tmo is already charging you for service.

The actual sim card is irrelevant, he could change 6 different sim cards a day on the same phone number/account and it would not affect the date of when the service was activated. His account was activated when the financing was started on a post paid service. He is currently being charge for service regardless of whether it is in use, it is accessible to him.

This is what I was looking for. If you did this online or through telesales, you might qualify for a $50 rebate, it would help on that ETF. It looks like you have to port which is why i said don't cancel your sprint yet, port it to the new TMO service. I didn't read the fine print, just wanted to point you in the right direction. Early Termination from Sprint is cheaper than I expected, so it's a no brainer for me at this point.

Why don't you try to get out of your contract with sprint. That's why I did. Let me find the thread about it.

The SIM code is different from the activation code. I'm starting to think the box didn't come with an activation code, because they expect the rep to activate it to their "plan" when you get it. Going to go to the store later today.

If you already have a blank SIM card all you need is the activation code that's on the booklet labeled Activation Card. I have 3 activation codes that came with SIMs I used to replace my old SIM cards. PM me if you or any one needs one.
Today, I called Verizon to request a sim card for a Nexus 6P that I just ordered.
I was expecting problems; however, after I provided the IMEI number that was on the Google order confirmation (It is actually the "Device ID number minus the final zero.), which the phone rep looked up, and saw that it was a Nexus; he then said I could pickup a sim card at any retail Verizon store for free, but that if they sent me one by mail, there would be a $6.99 fee for shipping and handling. I replied that I would prefer to pay the S/H fee rather than wait in line for more than 1 hr at a store. He then said that not only would they send the sim card, but that they would increase my data allowance an additional 12GB/month, making the total 30GB/month for an entire year, completely free of charge, and with no catches. Of course, I was very pleased, and quite surprised to say the least.
Knowing Big Red, I really wonder if there are truly "no catches".
What do you think is going on here?
You have a phone that can be used on any carrier. Verizon has to treat you like a human once they don't have you on a leash. You can move to any carrier at any moment.

18GB/mo how much are you paying for that? Is this on Verizon's "new" plan? Agreed with the other comment, they need to play a little bit nicer now to keep their customers.
Guess they don't have much of a choice since T-Mobile just announced yesterday that they're doubling everyone's data for free.
I did this online and got a new nano-sim sent to me for free, no S/H fees.
I walked into a Verizon store and said I needed a nano sim for my new phone. After waiting a bit, the guy entered my IMEI into the computer and grabbed a new sim, and then I was on my way. Probably the least painful experience I've ever had at a Verizon store.

Any advantage to them entering your IMEI into their system? I just took my SIM card out of my other phone.

I'm using 1 that I cut down from micro sim to nano sim, out of my Note 2. Because back then it was such a hassle dealing with Verizon. They would refuse to help you at the store, if you had a Nexus. After an hour on the phone with tech support you could get 1. Or you could just cut 1 down to size. It's a tight fit & I've always wanted an official nano sim. But if I had a real nano sim I would just put in.

Today, I called Verizon to request a sim card for a Nexus 6P that I just ordered.

Pretty much sounds like my experience getting the sim card. Didn't have to provide a IMEI though and the rep waived the shipping fee. Wasn't offered any plan changes but the other companies hadn't just changed their plans either. Activation also ended up being very easy as well FYI.
I called him up two weeks ago and ordered one on the phone without an issue. I didn't have the phone yet so I didn't even have those numbers. Not a single problem. They even overnighted it to me and didn't charge me a thing. When my phone showed up I put the card in and it didn't automatically activate so I called them up and they had me shut down my old phone and this one read them the IMEI and then start this one back up and it worked perfectly fine. I'd say between the two phone calls I spent maybe 15 minutes on the phone, only 5 to activate it and 10 to order it.
Just switched my 6p order from Huawei to Google last night as I didn't want to wait another month and I'll be receiving it tomorrow (that's crazy fast). I was going to get the nano sim ahead of time since I had so much of it, but now I think I'll just go tomorrow to my local verizon corporate store as it's less than 5 minutes from the house and I'll let them install the nano sim and activate it after I receive the phone.
I know others have done this with great success and I expect the same. Glad you had a good experience.

Sorry to drag this up from last month, but I'm curious to know how the phone shows up when you're looking at the account on the My Verizon website. Is the IMEI truly in their database, or does it show up as a generic Non-VZW Device? It was months before they added the IMEIs from the non-VZW Nexus 6 purchased from Google/Motorola to their database. The IMEI must be in their database for you to get the month to month (off contract) discount, which is $25/mo if you've got a 6GB plan or more.
It sounds like from the comments here that they've improved their internal processes and can actually manually add the IMEI over the phone, which would be great news.
My device (and my husband's) both show up as HUAWEI-H1511 under My Devices on Verizon. I didn't even need to contact them. Just switched the SIM card from my old Droid Maxx and it updated the model on their site immediately.

Same here. Came from a Note 3 which used a micro sim. Got a nano sim cutter, cut the sim, and popped it into the 6p. Up and running in less than 5 minutes. Couldn't be simpler
