[Q] Prevent Contacts from Merging with Each Other - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys
My device is Galaxy Note II, Running on DMC3 4.1.2
My Contacts are separately stored in Phone and Gmail.
Contacts application keeps joining contacts under the same name automatically. Sometimes it joins people who doesnt have any relevance at all. Im afraid that i might accidentally call or text someone that I do not wish to because of this. Some contacts when i open, i see other people's numbers listed under them.
How do I prevent this from happening ?

[Q] Best way to manage contacts

Hey there,
It's been a while since I'm using Android. I found out pretty annoying the contact managing, mainly because Google shuffles mails and phones.
I want a way in which my phone only shows in the Contacts section, the people that I have with a phone assigned in my contacts in Gmail. Actually it is showing like 1600 people, some of them only with an email, not even a phone.
Once I've done that, it would be great that every time that I save a phone it will be saved also in the cloud. Also, when I send a SMS it shows mails and phones, any way to show only phones?
Thanks a lot in advance,

[Q] Too much contacts

Hello,
I've sync my Gmail contacts with my ACE. I use the group "My Contacts" to save the contacts I use with the phone. I mean my primary contacts with phone number. Then I marked the option to show only contacts with phone number and unmarked all the others groups from Gmail, SIM card and phone. Doing that my list contact works well.
The problem is that every time I want to add a unknow phone number to my phone contacts it shows me all the others contacts. And others apps like GOsms shows me all the contacts I have in the phone and SIM card. I don't know what to do in order to avoid this. I tried to remove the unknow group from the phone but I couldn't. It is very anoying.
Is it possible to solve that?
Thanks
I have the same problem... All my contacts have multiplied... even when I do only phone number display checked I still have atleast 2 copies of each contact it sure is annoying only thing we can do is manually sit and delete them which is going to take ages... Go contacts has an option of merging you can try that

I don't have this problem when I use another ROM like Cyanogen. I don't if I could install the contacts application that is used with this ROM.

[Q] Galaxy S III copies all Google+ circles to phone contacts

Hi,
The Galaxy S III with Samsung's ICS 4.0.4 copies _all_ the contacts from Google to the phone, including everyone from Google+ circles.
While it's relatively easy to configure the Samsung contacts/phone app to filter only for "My Contacts" part of Google contacts, this does not prevent it from poisoning my car's phone book with 200+ irrelevant contacts when I Bluetooth-sync my phone to my car.
Does anyone know if this is a bug in Android or if it's a result of modifications done by Samsung?
And is there ANY way to prevent the non-wanted Google-contacts from showing up on the phone in the first place? (or for instance decide in a similar fashion to the contacts app which groups should be synchronized over bluetooth)
I'm sure I'm not the first having run into this problem - what have you others done? Disabled Google+ altogether? I'm sure that can't have been Google's intention
Thanks in advance for any insight!

contacts- menu-accounts and turn off accounts and sync
I'm fairly certain it's Google plus putting them in there and not the contacts app. I disabled the Google plus option to sync with my contacts and never had then appear in there.

Yes - the only problem here is that turns off ALL the google contacts, both the ones populated from Google+ and the ones in my contact list. In previous versions there was a sub-menu under the accounts where one could choose WHICH groups under the Google account to sync. Now it grabs all - including the Google+ contacts

Hmm - I too have disabled Google+ to sync with my contacts, but when I go to Gmail and list contacts there, all my Google+ circles are added to my contacts (just shown at a lower section). So even with de-installing Google+ on my phone, I still get the google+ contacts in my phone app.
However, when I uncircle a few persons from Google+ (from web), they disappear from Gmail contacts, and then subsequently disappear from Samsung's telephone app as well. Hence I still believe it's coming from G+ via contacts, and not the other way around..
It also seems to import all the people's email addresses that I have ever emailed from Gmail's "save sent contact list" which gives quite a few blank fields in the car phone book. These are hidden in the phone since I don't display contacts without phone numbers.

[Q] Contacts on Google overriding changes in Android 4.0.3 Galaxy S II

Hello!
I have the Samsung Galaxy SII - GT-I9100 model, running unmodified Android 4.0.3 and whenever I make a change to any contact on my phone (it's marked as a Google Contact, btw), it stays that way until I synchronize my account with google, when the contact will then be reverted to the way it is on Google.
I have no idea what's wrong and it has been like this ever since I bought the phone. If I go to my Google account and change a contact through the web, my cell phone will sync and bring the changes from the google server, but the opposite (pushing changes to the server) won't happen.
All my contacts are orgnized and stored in the "My contacts" group. My contacts application is showing only the contacts on the google account, so there's no conflict with any contacts that might be stored locally on the phone (I've deleted all the phone and SIM contacts just to make sure nothing like that gets in the way).
I'd appreciate any help you guys could provide. I'm not willing to root or install any other ROM on this phone, I'd like to keep it stock for several reasons, warranty being one of the most important.
Thank you very much!
I just updated the Android version to Jelly Bean 4.2.2 and uninstalled any contacts manager I might have had (Go Contacts Ex) and tried again, but to no avail.
Anyone else with the same problem? Does this have anything to do with the "My Contacts" group on Google Contacts? All these contacts are stored in that group. I haven't changed since I organized all my contacts when I bought the phone.
If anyone could help, I'd pay you a beer (or a dozen, perhaps).
Thanks!
This thread is probably dead by now, and i'm not sure if anybody has figured out a solution to this issue. However i did find an intermediate solution with an app called "InTouchAPP" available in the playstore. It is an alternative solution to going through google's server in saving contacts. It integrates seamlessly with your phone, and you sign up for a username and password so you may never lose your contacts again.
I was having an issue in which i would save a new number and name it. Seconds later the name of the number would disappear. I tried going to directly to gmail.com and adding a contact and it would work. My only explanation was that my phone was not pushing information to the google server however google server was constantly overriding any new numbers i added on my phone.
If anybody has a better solution please share.
Best Regards,
Jonathan

Gear S Tizen Contacts app has contacts scrambled

Hello
Is there any way to sort the contacts on the Watch when paired to a phone? On my phone all the contacts have been arranged and none have no names but I have double/triple entries for contacts left and right. I even tried re-organizing and merging contacts on the phone but nothing else works.
Anyone out there have a clue whats going on? or if there's a fix or a work around to just filter phones, actually force re-sync or is the contacts app just straight up broken.
solved it myself. retarded
caused by the contacts merge on Galaxy S6/S6Edge and +. Sooo had to search through all merged contacts or all contacts that weren't within a name (so loose contacts /emails/numbers) and delete them.. through the phone.
welp that sucked. but at least its fixed
