ODIN help - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I am trying to unroot my phone, I have downloaded Odin 3.04, the stock rom and kernel. I got down to it and opening ODIN, but the problem is odin can't detect the rom, I have trying extracting it, and looking for the zip file but neither are recocgnizable by ODIN. I have ni idea what to do, and I need to unroot my phone fast! Thanks for your help!

flashable rom should be a .tar or a .tar.md5

Flashing Simply Honey Revolution 3.9

Hey guys so I am interested in flashing the simply honey revolution ROM on my samsung vibrant. But I am stuck. The instructions call for you to flash via Odin with the 512 PIT file. But when I download the light version for first flash in the instructions I find a .tar file. How do I flash this rom? Thanks for your help!
I have the same question, since I am used to work on the EVO 4G but not this phone. Any help will be appreciated. I already flashed a gingerbread bootloader, but I still need to flash this ROM.
Put the tar file in the pda and pit in the pit section.
just use that file but open PDA selection. it will flash it. also make sure you odin a gingerbread boot loader first.
Ok, understanding a little bit more. Right know I have the zip and the tar file inside that one. I don't have any Pit file mentioned. Also in the instrutions doesn't say if the phone needs to be in download mode or whatever mode. Thanks for any other info.
It should be in download mode to use ODIN.
Okay let me see if I have this process correct. From the page I download this http://www.multiupload.com/KP8HBPR20Z from under the instructions coming from eclair/froyo. Inside I see the .tar file. (not a .pit file). In ODIN i put the .tar file under PDA and click start. Once that is done I can download the bootloader and flash that via ODIN. Is this correct?
yeh
or you could use rom manager to flash whichever package you want after odining the light version instead of flashing the bootloaders
dont do it
I just went through hell flashing that rom and even BRICKED my phone. (well semi-brick, none of the buttons worked) I made the same mistake as you. Dont use the Simply_Honey_3.8_LightOdin file, use the one that is named simply_ODIN_HEIM . The light odin is bull****. Didnt work for me. I dont even want to guess why...
Good Luck!
Remember to open the .zip and extract the .tar, zip's cant be flashed in odin

urgent help needed

hi guys i am in a very bad situation my friend asked me to put hebrew on his galaxy s 2 , so as a good friend i tried to help him idownloaded the orange zip file and use odin to flash it and now it got stuck on the boot screen i can go into download mode but i dont know how to bring it back to life
please help
thanks
Zip files are not meant for ODIN.
ODIN normally flashes tar files which has only the necessary files and no scripts inside.
Clockworkmod is used to flash zip files.
I think you used PDA button on ODIN to flash *.zip file.
Find a kernel with cwm , codeworkx's kernel or siyah kernel.
Flash using PDA of odin.
If it doesn't work, flash an entire stock rom using odin, download from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Then flash a kernel with cwm, and flash hebrew zip in recovery
thanks for the reply I have one more question do I need a USB jig and also what custom binary count for mine says 2
is that a problem
If you can get into download mode, you don't need a jig. The binary count shows the number of times you flashed from download mode. It's not a problem, but it's a proof that you did, and it probably means your phone lost its warranty.
You dont need a jig if you can get into download mode but it will reset the binary counter for warranty purposes

Well, some people put the .tar's inside a zip to compress it, so it might be a Odin file after all.
Open the zip file, and if there is just ONE file there, extract it and flash it with Odin. If there are alot of files/folders, it's for CWM

Kernel Flashing with Odin

Hey guys,
I'm a total noob at a lot of this so I need some help. I've rooted my Sg2 and am now attempting to flash a kernel with CWM so that I can start checking out some of these ROMs. Problem is, whenever I download the kernel file, I see no .tar file for me to be able to flash via Odin. All the how-to videos show a .tar file available for flashing but any kernel I download from the forums, none seem to have the .tar file included in the zip. I only see is a META-INF and a zImage file which help me in no way. What am I doing wrong?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

A kernal is zImage, however unless I'm wrong you don't want to flash a non stock kernal using Odin. I thought this would increase flash counter. Unless it is mobile odin i believe. However you could try this sticky and hopefully it will help...

Thanks but no luck. That's just basically a way of flashing without your machine. You still need the correct file extension in order to flash. Tar is what I'm looking for. I'm not sure why this has become so difficult. I know that I must be doing something stupid. Any help anyone else?
codeworkx has a kernel, stock with ClockworkMod Recovery 5.0.3.2 that is a tar here.
The zedomax root CWM kernel, which you can download from this thread is also packaged as a tar for Odin.

Bricked S2

Hey guys
this morning i woke up with my s2 telling me that there is a firmware update
I said yes, my phone reset itself and just samsung s2 with a ! triangle appears
I can get into download manager
I want to try odin, I've download a few things but for the PDA part it looks for a .tar .md5
I extract the Rom zip but there is nothing inside of it with those things... so i cant flash anything
please help??please :$
Then try another zip instead?
BTW Zip is for Recovery but it seems like you know this since you knew that tar/md5 files are for ODIN
Flash Siyah maybe? you can get the .tar from here
Make sure you put it in PDA and re-partitition is NOT checked.
Cheers.

To root, flash a custom kernel using Odin.
Think about to see if the Kernel or ROM is compatible with your SGS2 and with your version etc.
Cheers.

[Q] Failed rooting!

Hi, currently i'm using samsung galaxy s2 with andriod 4.0.3.. i found it lag sometimes so i decided to root it. i have downloaded the CF root file, but when i extracted it, i found only zImage in it. i have followed all the steps from the video and when i was clicking the 'PDA' after i have opened the odin, i selected the file 'CF root file' which is zipped, then i started to root.. the process was successful, but my device couldn't turn on. it is stuck at the text and not showing the yellow triangle. What should i do? :crying:
No no no, the correct file extension for ODIN is .tar or tar.md5. Not .zip
Have you tried accessing either download mode or recovery mode?
Did you even read about Odin before the flash?
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
I think zimage is only for use with mobile odin.

maybe your an iphone expert

Re-flash time it is.
After that, root with ExynosAbuse.

If it was a ZImage file only, and it was Zip,then it was for CWM Recovery.
the 'ZImage' file extracted from the Cf-root zip file can be flashed from PC odin/Mobile odin by putting it on the 'PDA' section

reflash ur ROM.. or download the latest 4.1.2 firmware from sammobile.com and flash it via ODIN
root it with my method..
safest way.. and appllicable in ICS and JB versions
you can also flash the custom kernels like siyah. philz. dorimanx. or apolo (it has a custom recovery)
