Automate playing an mp3/wma over http/https every morning - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am able to manually type a URL to an MP3/WMA in MX Player's Network stream field; and, MX Player still start playing the audio stream over http/https.
However, I need to automate this so that every morning, MX player (or any media player) will play the same network stream. I know that Tasker is a very powerful automation tool; however, I have no idea how to automate that.
BTW: I noticed that MX Player will associate video files with itself if they're opened via my web browser (so the video is streamed to MXPlayer instead of download the file). However, if I try to do the same with an audio file in my web browser, the audio file will just download instead of associate/playback with MX Player.
Thanks in advance,
MKANET

*sigh* I did a search on google looking for a way to playback mp3 over http/https... my post came up on top. I hope I'm not the first person ever to want to do this.

Click to collapse
I'm pretty sure it can't be done, well not with the standard spotify app anyway, someone might one day come up with a mod that allows it.

So i know i can watch any saved audio, video, photo, but can i use the DLNA media server to watch something like a Youtube video.

Good video player

Hi!
i'm looking for a good video player for our tattoo, that can play video files smooth.
i've tried MOBO player and BS Player, but the video was not synced with sound.
can you help me?
cumpz!
Hi.
You can try MX Player.
Hello.
How about Act 1 video player. Or Meridian player. Although I use those on my chinese tablet, not on my Click, they are great video players.
Or you can try Seaman player, it's UI is ugly, but it's good player.
Pop Player (Speed-Control Video Player)
I highly recommend the free Pop Player app. I recently made a couple of reviews on it on YouTube.
This new video player allows the user to utilize speed-control. The slow-motion
and speeded-motion are extremely smooth too and audio syncs perfectly with
the video at any speed. It can definitely be useful for athletes and students.
Some people I know even use it to replay their golf swings in slow-motion
in order to improve their form.
This player plays MP4 files that contain H264 and AC codecs.
Check out my review of this app on youtube by searching "Pop Player Free Android App".
I suggest mx player
It has a good forward option, yet the best thing is the subtitle menu if you are watching a movie.

[Q] [4.0.4] Playing RTMPE streams in a standalone player?

Hey all,
I hope this is the correct forum for my query, apologies if it isn't. I had a look before posting but my query is quite unique.
When i play streams through dedicated apps such as Tvcatchup on 4.0.4 (live streaming of UK Freeview channels in a standalone app), streams play flawlessly.
But when I try to play streams within browsers, the video is very jerky (sound is great though).
My next thought was to try and play the network stream directly through a player such as VLC. When I look at the source of the web page containing the embedded player on a streaming site, i get rtmpe:// and http://****.m3u8 links.
Tried to play both via the network stream option in VLC for android (beta) and nothing happens. When I play them on a PC, i get errors. Looking at the playlist.m3u8 file within text editor, it creates a session ID (i am guessing linked to your logon to the website as a way to authenticate users) and tags it onto the end of the .m3u8 URL.
If anyone got previous experience in this area and can offer any advice would be really appreciated.
Thanks!

Android 4.4.2 - Video playback: no ac3 sound when streaming

Please read carefully! It took me an hour just to write this post, not counting days of troubleshooting.
The old situation:
I have a collection of video in different compressed formats on my home server, and i want to access them from my phone.
So far, i have been using sftp for this (several file managers support this, esp. ES File Manager), but either the sftp protocol or ES file manager aren't suitable for streaming, there's too much stuttering and freezing. This is not a bandwidth issue!
Partial solution & new problem:
I use a dedicated media server (ampache) on my home server, and a dedicated client (DSub) on my Acer E700 (aka E39), stock android, rooted, firewalled.
I noticed a problem with video that uses AC3 sound encoding - The video plays fine (even hi-res), i just don't hear any sound.
And it happens only when i stream the video through the network (http?) (*) - the file plays just fine when i copy it to the phone, or use sftp via ES file manager, or download the file through my media server.
I tried this with all media players i have:
stock android video player
ES media player
MX player (with or without custom codec neon.1.7.32.rev1.zip) - it says, when playing files through the media server, that HW+ or SW decoding is not supported, however when i play the same video locally there's no such limitation.
I also tried all video streaming settings inside DSub:
Raw
HTTP Live Stream (HLS) (this did not work at all)
Direct transcode (requires video -> mp4 or similar setup on server)
Flash plugin (did not work, i guess i don't have the flash plugin)
and the result is always the same: all video plays fine, but video with ac3 sound has no sound.
unfortunately most hdtv videos use h264/ac3...
here's a list of codec combinations and resolutions that don't play sound:
h264/ac3 1280x720
avi/ac3 704x396
avi/ac3 640x368
here's a list of codec combinations and resolutions that do play sound:
quicktime/mp4 848x448
quicktime/mp4 1280x720
quicktime/mp4 716x404
avi/mp3 640x360
I can only come to the conclusion that android treats different codecs differently when streamed through the network. How can I solve this?
(*) i also copied one of the affected files to the public html section and tried to open it through my phone's browser, and the result is the same: no sound with ac3.
i did notice that one of the "good" files opened right inside the browser, whereas the "bad" file asked to open with a media player.
i'm pretty sure this is about ac3 audio.
i just don't understand why it works flawlessly when i play the files straight from phone memory, but not over the network?
