Ok looking to get insurance...I always had Att but thinking of trying squaretrade...I would do the monthly 6.99 plan do they cost the same...only thing I noticed is squaretrade is 99 deductible vs Att 199...but squaretrade doesn't cover lost or stolen phones...never had to make any claims with either...but curious if one is better then the other...I'm getting spooked on all these unexplained camera lenses cracking on some ones....

I've never used insurance. But after I had my first dropped broken screen on my n4 I decided I'd get insurance. The coverage for lost and stolen phones is what did it for me. And the fact it is on my bill makes it easier to keep up with payment. My .02

Yeah. I had never broken a phone of any kind before in my life. So now that it's happened to me I'm questioning myself...while I don't see a lost phone or stolen because my phone never leaves my side. Anything can happen. I might look st squaretrade again though. Because now that I think about it. I'm not worried about losing my phone

I never used to have any insurance before we had our son , but now that my son is 2 years old i always go for an insurance, since i love to keep my phone naked and squaretrade is my #1 choice .
My son broke my ipad 4 screen within 5 days they got it fixed for no charge ( since ipad insurance had 0 deductible ) . i got squaretrade for the HTC One they are 125$ for 2 years with 99$ deductible way cheaper than AT&T and the best part is if they cant fix the phone for whatever reason they pay you 700$ and you can buy whatever phone is latest at the point and still save some money.
there are 30% squaretrade coupons floating around all the time , in fact i posted 3 coupons yesterday on there check it out
with 30% (30$ max) off it comes down to 95 + tax

My experience with squaretrade is not so great. I had insurance on my original moto droid. one day it stopped working so i initiated a claim with squaretrade. they say they will fix it or pay you...by fix it they mean they will send you a refurb. after waiting a week or two, they sent me a moto droid (not mine) that was functional but beat up (mine was not). when i called to complain, they insisted that it was my same phone and they had fixed it. they agreed to exchange it and i got another refurb in slightly better condition.
in the end, i got a working phone, i just wish they were more upfront about sending refurbished items.

I don't have any case or protector on my HTC one at all, and I just notice it there is a scratch on the camera lens. Not sure if it affect the image quality, but the camera lens seem so fragile on the One, so it may be a good idea after all.
i cancelled my AT&T insurance and went with ensquared. its $99.99 upfront for 2 years of coverage and a $75 deductible. it covers pretty much everything:
General Product Coverage Components
Accidental Damage Yes
Liquid Spill Yes
Power Surge Yes
Theft Yes
Lost Device Yes
Flood Yes
Vandalism Yes
Fire Yes
Misuse and Abuse No
Loss of Data No
Extended Warranty Coverage Yes
Standard Battery Yes
Home Charger Yes

That's how it is with every insurance claim even the one AT&T uses. Sometimes you get a refurbished item sometimes you get a new one its all luck of the draw.
I personally decided to go with SquareTrade because for $95 for 2 years I thought it was a good deal and the deductible is only $100. Also SquareTrade is fully transferable and that will increase my resale value if I ever decide to sell the phone.

Found this today, it looks like a way better deal then VZW has for the phones.
For $99 it looks like you get the same protection that VZW offers for about $70 cheaper ($6.99 x 24 months = $167.76) Plus the the deductible for a claim is only $59.00 (VZW $99)
Warranty even covers unlocked phone, no need to fake a stock phone to get a new one.
the only down side i see is the turn around time. 3-5 business days, with VZW its next day.

So, i never gave any insurances for phones a big thought... if you think, that I had plenty phones, and none of them got so damaged, lost, thrown in the water... that I was worried about insurance...
I mean you pay depending where about 10$ per month (2 years 240$) so if you just in case can get your phone replaced and pay another 100$ deductable... so in the end i pay 340$ to be sure I could have a replacment phone... now in other words...if i say the phone is worth 600$ that would mean that every 2nd person would need to replace there phone so it makes sense for a consumer to buy this... really every 2nd person? still it seems to be popular in these forums...
I mean yeah i had a display break from one of my phone some time back went to the store ordered a new display 100$ done... here i would have still overpaid 200$ so I don't quite get it... but I do have an open mind to be convinced
My example is absolutely simplified... and they offer repair services as well... I understand, but still...
Am i just talking good care of my stuff? so that i dont worry about this so much ? just wondering...
I think of it like this do I have in pocket over 500 to replace my phone nope. So ten bucks a month is easier when I do need replacmet and pay 100. Second is piece of mind, I did a few replacements and fixes which is good. In the end sprint and insurance wins. The thing that bugs me was a few years back the amount of fraud going on and that's why it gets more expensive when it comes to insurance.

This is a good example why I don't have sprints TEP. It's a big rip off. I personally like using best buy black tie protection. I paid $170 for 2 years it doesn't have a deductible it is cheaper than sprints TEP.
Sent from my EVO using XDA
I personally think it's a waste of money. If I drop my phone on the sidewalk or in the toilet, I'll suck it up and get a cheap phone off Craigslist until I can save up for a replacement. I'd rather that than spend that much money a month on insurance. Besides, don't you all put a few bucks into an emergency fund every month anyway?
People say just be careful with your phone and you won't need insurance and if you can't do that then get ibsurance. Sure that's a good point, but there's no way I can watch out for it every day nor do I want to pile up money for insurance so small investments for quality cases and screen shields do that job for me for much less than paying insurance a month, so now I only have to worry about it for exceptionally dangerous days (camping, swimming, etc) which is easy if you remind yourself how important your phone is and how crazy it'll be without it. Living like this, I've never broken a phone.
But that's just me. I like someone else's idea, instead of investing your money in insurance where you never get it back, put it aside as a "phone" funds for yourself at the same rate this way you can keep your own money if you don't use it. You'll be paying more for the replacement, but if you generally don't break phones you'll be saving more money than you spend if you don't break it the next time (easier said than done, but I did say "if you generally don't break phones")
Basically, insurance is for people who either:
1) want to throw away money
or
2) break phones often (2+ times within one 2-year agreement)
Personally I don't think insurance is a bad idea but I do think sprints TEP structure is a total ripoff. Looking at a few EVO LTE on Ebay they're already going for under retail and I've seen a few open box sell for $450. I could only imagine what our phones would sell for in a couple of months. These phones will be so affordable soon rendering TEP a total ripoff if one had to pay a $200 deductible.

As mentioned, you'd be getting ripped off to pay that much for a replacement now that Ebay is stocked up and people are looking ahead to the SGS3.
But, hey, at least we're not being forced by anybody to carry phone insurance. Yet.

I think the bottom line here is if you want phone insurance, get phone insurance. If you don't, then you don't. It's that simple. However, I kinda find it interesting that a lot of people say hey I don't need phone insurance but are the same people that get insurance on electronics. I know it's much cheaper and there's no deductible but if you are gonna be a stickler then be one 100% of the time. Insurance is there for those that wanna be proactive and have a peace of mind at the end of the day. Think of how much money we throw away paying car, home and renters insurance without ever putting in a claim? I know all these things are mandatory but honestly we waste thousands upon thousands upon thousands for those things. However, it's the peace of mind knowing that if you smash your car up, your home gets burglarized or catches fire, you'll be covered and so will your valuables( if you pay that extra $200 a year or more for that). If these things didn't carry mandatory weight, would we have car or home insurance? It's the same question to ask yourself when looking to purchase phone insurance( minus the mandatory part). I carry the TEP insurance because it protects me against EVERYTHING! I know there is a deductible but it works for me. I've heard horror stories about BBs Black Tie Protection. Yeah there is no deductible but what you have to go through to get your phone fixed is not worth the $94 you'll save vs the Sprint plan and in the end you end up getting a refurbished phone anyways. That's like saying I'll go to Joe Schmoe to get my car fixed because he is cheaper than the dealership but end up getting your car back with more problems than you started out with. I just say go with what you like. In the same breath, you can't ridicule or belittle someone for being proactive imho.
My old Palm Centro, Palm Pre, and Evo Shift...
Centro had worn out button panel, and then someone stepped on it a bit and the button panel broke on the corner.... free repair in 1 day
Palm Pre died and stopped turning on... Free new or "like new" replacement 2 business days
Second Palm Pre died and stopped turning on... Free new or "like new" replacement 2 business days
Evo Shift died and stopped turning on... Free new or "like new" replacement 2 business days
Second Evo Shift died and stopped turning on... Free new or "like new" replacement 2 business days
So this is why I keep my Sprint TEP
Never paid a dime aside from the monthly fee

$470 now $370 next month $270 the following month. Eventually the phone will level off around $225-$300. At that point making sprint deductible of $200 a total ripoff. I guess TEP is a good investment within the first 4 months of a phones released.

Protect cell is great insurance. Its cheaper in the the long run but you pay 140 up front instead of almost 200 over two years and after two years if you don't make a claim they will buy back your phone for 25 percent of RETAIL costs

I'll probably end up getting it through Verizon, just for the convenience if I need to utilize it in the future. $8/mo though adds up quick.
I have never had phone insurance and never had the need for it. I guess I can make a phone last 18 months to the upgrade. Check Verizons deductible first.
My opinion is never get an insurance for something you can replace on your own account. This will be much much cheaper in the long run.

Only once have I had a phone damaged by water, but luckily I was able to get it replaced under warranty as they couldn't tell it was damaged. My main concern is that I'll drop or lose the phone in the first 1-3 months, in which case the insurance would have helped a lot.
I always get the insurance with extended warranty. Always get devices overnighted when I've had problems. A few bucks is worth the peace of mind.
(EDIT: I may be wrong on the no-dudctible as a few other members have pointed out. A friend of mine told me that and I just took his word for it, sorry for misdirection) I've heard good things about Ensquared. $58 for 1 year and 2 claims, no deductible. Or $99 for 2 years and 3 claims up to $1000 each, also no deductible. It comes out to a little over $4 a month. Doesn't Verizon have a deductible per claim thats around 100 or 150?

it might be on paper. I would never buy anything such as warranty from bestbuy. Heck they couldn't even try to find an item that they have 10 in stock for me because the guy said they were too hard to get to? I had a warranty once with them and their first job seems to be to make you feel dumb about the phone, like you don't know what you are doing before they will replace it. you might as well intentionally hit it with a brick and take it in so they don't bull**** you. lol

Yeah, I admittedly have no experience with it and am going off word of mouth. Back when ICS leaked for the vivid there were alot of people that bricked their phones flashing the new Hboot and one of them said he took his to BBuy and they replaced it no questions asked. I may just pre-order here (I'm impatient anyway) and get the Verizon warranty. If it's anything like the AT&T warranty it will cover everything except for small arms fire (the words of the AT&T rep).

the insurance should definitely cover it, it would be a $99 deductible though. i am not sure if the extended warranty part would cover it or not since it is an embedded battery, i know usually they don't cover batteries but i could see this being an exception.

The deductible sucks but are there any alternatives? Unlikely there are going to be 3rd party batteries made since its not removable.
I think, provider have a creative idea to make a good deal with customer by provide insurance.
For those people who have taken the Verizon insurance, do you know what the deductible is on the S4 if you need to replace it?
Shoud be ~$100 like the rest of their smartphones. I haven't checked in a while bit it's in that realm

Is it replacement/swap or send in for fix?
Replacement, they overnight you one and then you return yours via enclosed label.

Last month when I dropped and broke my Note 2, I went onto asurion's website, filed a claim, gave them my info (this was at 11PM), and the next day at noon I had a new Note 2 on my doorstep. I just had to ship back my damaged Note 2 without any accessories, so I got to keep the battery as a spare. I imagine it's the same way for the S4.
Dont they normally send out refurbished phones? I was looking into the square trade warranty

I have Squaretrade for my wifes S3. They are cheaper, especially with discount codes, but they are also $99 deductible but they require you to send in the phone for repair, no swap. Turn around on my wifes S3 for cracked screen was about 5-6 days from when we sent it in.
Personally, I just started hanging on to my previous old phone for insurance.
last september i left my phone ontop of my dads car and forgot it up there. found it a few blocks away, screen smashed but it still turned on, was able to save all my **** off it.
called them up around 8pm EST, by 10am the next day there was a brand new nexus at my door. cost me $100 but for the service, speed and the replacement it was worth it.
Verizon's insurance is **** in my opinion who wants to pay $99 to replace a broken phone and they will only replace it 2-3 times. So I went and got mine through Best Buy and pay for their replacement plan which is like 10$ a month and there is no deductible if you break and need your phone replaced. So Im sorry for whoever has to pay that lol

for the $72 difference over 2 year cost ill take the verizon insurance. Unlike best buy I get a BRAND new phone, not a refurb. best buy also doesn't cover lost or stolen devices. I also get the phone either next day or 2 day, best buy cant beat that. I do not trust the quality of refurbs that get put into the best buy system. I use to work for best buy in the geek squad and we handled the insurance exchanges, i do not have a good taste in my mouth from them. I'd get refurb backs that had issues right out of the box, had slight wear. I rather pay the $100, even though its few and very far between to get the phone replaced. the first year you are covered by manufactures warranty so why bother.

My Note 2 was a refurb through Asurion, but rest assured it's been working better than my brand new Note 2 ever did. It looks brand new as well.
99 no mater the smart phone

I'm paying $11/mo. And the deductible is $199!

They are correct, it is $100. Just added the insurance on both of my lines.
I bought the Square Deal insurance through Costco, $99 total for 2 years, and only $25 co-pay for up to four claims. Usually overnight replacement.
After 2 months of taking great care of my "naked" G2, it fell 3 feet off my nightstand onto the wood floor and shattered. The bottom part of the screen doesn't appear to work, which means I can't even enter my unlock code (swipe). I've submitted for a replacement with Asurion, but apparently they're on backorder and don't know when they will have any in stock...
I was under the impression they replace phones with new ones if they don't have refurb's in stock. I guess not anymore...
Anyone else replace their G2 with Asurion?

They should replace it with a new 1 if they don't have it in stock.
Try calling them again and see if you can get help from someone else.

Thanks for the tip - just called back. Apparently they have nothing in stock, are awaiting new G2's, and will notify me when they have a new one.
Although the same guy said that they don't give out refurbished phones, just new ones, so I don't know what to believe....

If they have a reconditioned device they will send those.
If they don't have reconditioned then they will send new 1's.
Unless they are out of stock completely. Which you will then have to wait until they have 1 or the other.

You could probably get them to give you a different device also. I believe they are obligated to provide a replacement device within 72 hours. I will look into where I read that before.

Yes. If they don't have any reconditioned or new then they can send you a comparable model.

This is how I got my G2. Bought it on craigslist from some guy who broke the screen for $100. $99 deductible with Asurion and they sent me a brand spaking new G2 for $200 total (kept my verizon unlimited plan). I just sent the old broken one in, so maybe you'll be in luck
Hooray for insurance fraud! Oh wait.....

Okay I was going to start a thread about this a few days ago but I didnt get around to it. My screen broke last week from a short fall and I went to verizon because my fiance was upgrading. Anyway, there were 2 people there at the counter who where complaining about this because they had filed a claim on their broken G2 screen and both of them told me they were gonna be on back order till around January or February....yeah im just as frustrated and the only replacements they might send is a Droid Max or MotoX. So the best solution Verizon is doing for this right now is sending in an order for a temp flip phone for our broken device till the devices can be replaced...but youll still be charged $20 a month for being a smartphone plan even though you currently dont have one. This sucks...
Edit: Here use this, download it from your computer and install it to your phone remotely so you can rotate your screen around if your having problems with half your screen like me. It might hold you over for a month or so longer.

C. Replacement equipment may, at our option, be refurbished equipment or different equipment of like kind and quality.
Just remember the squeaky wheel gets the grease. cause a ruckus with both the insurance company and the carriers, their is no reason for the back order and demand a phone with the same specs or better.
curious as to why your going through asurion when its a year warranty on the phone

I dropped mine on the freeway, i forgot it on top of my car and drove off lol. My screen cracked and it will not register my fingers to unlock also.I sent it into LG for repairs, it was 142 total. Plus my 10 dollar to ship it to LG facilities in texas. I'm getting it back by Saturday, says Fedex. I shipped it to them and they received it on November 22nd.. so about two weeks turn around.
I broke mine and called them. They told me to buy one and I'd get a reimburse check minus the deductible in a few weeks.

So after speaking to Asurion yesterday and being told they have no idea when there will be more G2's in, I got an email from them last night that they have my phone ready to ship. Their web site was screwed up and not letting me continue, so I called and gave them the address and credit card info. The phone is out for delivery today....Damn.
@ Walter21026: Thanks for the tip. Tried installing from Google Play's website, not sure if it installed or not. Still shows lockscreen. Truth is, most of the touchscreen now seems to be useless. Thanks anyways.
@ antawnm26: I dropped the phone and cracked the screen. AFAIK, warranty is if something is defective, not if I am at fault for the screen being shattered.

Great questions!
We'd love to clear up the confusion for you. Our goal is to get you reconnected as quickly as possible by providing a like-for-like replacement. We do use both new and remanufactured phones in order to provide this service. Rest assured, all of our remanufactured phones use 100% OEM parts and come with a 12-month limited warranty. Your device will be replaced at no charge if it has a warranty failure during that time period. While we do operate from a separate set of inventory from your local store; like them, our inventory constantly changes. In the event your device is unavailable at the time of your claim, we will discuss the options available to you at that time.
We understand you have already been in contact with us regarding your claim. We welcome you to track the status of your claim at www.phoneclaim.com. We are also more than happy to assist you via email at [email protected].

The white LG G2 on verizon seems to be still back ordered, with no ETA. Local verizon stores said they are out of stock as well. Not sure when they are coming back.
