Unable to reconnect to a Wi–Fi network - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm unable to reconnect to Wi–Fi networks after connecting to it for the first time and then leaving it.
When I come back in to range it will reconnect momentarily reconnect and then drop the connection.
The only temporary fix that I've found is to reboot the phone whilst in range of the network although when I leave it and come back again it will have the same problem.
Has anyone seen this before or know how I can fix it?

Same wifi or it happens with all routers? If just one then probably router setting, if all then hardware, modem or rom problem with your phone. You haven't given any information about your phone so no-one can help you.

I have same problem with alliance rom..
But am fine coz I don't use WiFi much..

Weird Wifi issue...

I am hoping that I am not the only one with this issue : I am able to connect just fine to a wireless network and I can browse with no problems. For a few minutes, that is... After connection for a few minutes, my internet will start to slow down and eventually I won't be able to browse. I am showing that I am still connected to the network and I am able to run network speed test applications (such as speed test or Xtremelabs Speedtest) which shows that I am still connected.
When this happens, I have to unconnect/reconnect multiple times before getting connectivity again. For a few minutes, then the cycle happens all over.
I have checked my router settings and everything looks fine, and I can connect with a different device without problems (such as Xbox live or Internet on my computer).
This happens with any network I connect to, and it has happened on other 3vos as well (I am currently on my third and have had this issue with the other two as well).
Any help would be hot!

If your rooted it could be a rom issue. But that must be a problem with the radio, and you said your last 2 did this to you as well? lol that has to suck dude cause thats a big problem.
Its could be your internet though, before i upgraded to ATT i had a lot of connection problems. The problem is that maybe your internet cannot hold your phone a laptop, xbox etc all running off the router. when it gets too many things running on it it will kick someone off until its back to normal.
Well, I usually don't have more then one device online at a time...

[Q] Wifi dropping even when it shows it's connected (w/ Video)

I've had two Galaxy S II phones now, and I've had the same problem with both devices. The phone's wifi is great -- when it works. Although I noticed that the death grip lowers the wifi signal bar, I can still browse the internet and download apps just fine.
The problem is that, at times, the phone will show wifi connectivity and yet, I can't browse the internet or access the App Store. I'll have to shut off the wifi multiple times and even this doesn't work 100% of the time. Shutting off the phone and turning it back on works 100% of the time.
Since this has happened to two phones, I'm beginning to question whether I have an issue with the wireless router because I have not come across this as a prevalent issue. At the same time, my laptop and a family member's iphone doesn't have the same issue.
Anyone else having this problem? Or have suggestion for fixing the problem?
Thanks
Here is me showing the problem on video:
My roommate and I both have the Galaxy SII and he constantly has problems connecting to our wifi. The only difference in our phones is his is rooted and mine is not. I plan on rooting my one of these days but would like to fix the other issues I am having first.
Mine isn't rooted, but it still has the connectivity problem.
EDIT:
I may have found the the solution. Probably unique to my situation, but what I did was disable WPS on my router. It's a medialink router and I thought I had disabled it (per instruction) but it was on. Perhaps that was the issue. So far, no problem.
EDIT:
Nope, the wifi has dropped again. By dropped, I don't mean it drops in the middle of browsing. It seems to drop after I've stopped using the phone for a while. I've already checked to see that the phone is to never turn off the wifi when the display is off/sleep.
Arghhh
same exact problem.
wifi on moto surfboard sbg6580
did the static ip fix continue to work?
Any phone is the same.

Don't have any issue with wi-fi , mine is rooted on stock rom
i have no issues with wifi on my sgs2, i have wifi on 24/7, and on wifi proabably 50% of the time. it connects and disconnects when supposed to, picks up on cell data and drops when its supposed to..
fwiw, my GF has an iphone 4, she had problems connecting to the HOME wifi, but no where else, i updated the firmware on the router, same problem, i swapped out the router for a spare a friend had, and setup a second access point on the same network, just called it the same SSID but put a "2" after it.
her connectivity problems went away, immediatly she noticed a difference and has never complained of a drop since...
try different encryption methods, if you're using wep, try wpa, try a few different things.
also try a firmware update, you might lose your settings during a firmware update, but there is usually a backup/restore option you can use. backup your settings before flash, then restore after. if you have access, for at least testing purposes, hook up another router and use it to connect to and see if the same problems persist.
No problems at all connecting to a WHR-G54S running Tomato.
The Moto Surfboards are known to be flaky.
I had the same problem. after getting another one I found out that if I didn't download so many apps at one time the problem mostly stopped and after running a couple weeks, I haven't had the problem with connection since. I'm not sure it will help, but I did a factory data reset and reinstalled the apps one our two at a time (it's frustrating, I know).

[Q] Wi-Fi Issues on 2.3.4

I looked for another topic about this same issue but didn't find one. Many apologies if I missed it.
I've been having awful wi-fi issues on my x2 running stock 2.3.4. It was just fine with every other version we've gotten, but it seems recently that where I once got a full signal connection, i'm barely able to find the network. When it does connect, it's with minimal strength. I wanted to see if other people were having the same issue or if maybe it just got knocked the wrong way in my pockets or something.
Is it ur home Wi-Fi router? Did u try resetting the router? I have seen some issues fixed(although different than what u mentioned ) can't hurt to try it.
I'm on multiple networks each day and the story is the same on each network. Though I did not reset the home router, other devices have no issues connecting to it or with strength.
Guess it's probably just me. Thanks for the thoughts!
Explain the process the phone goes through, does it try to connect at all? Humor us and reset your home network. I understand other things connect fine, but alot of people with similar issue report a router reset works. I had the problem several times and a reset fixed it. Multiple other devices connected fine. Always after update or flash.
Finds network, attempts to connect, obtaining ip address, disconnected.
If this is not your issue its probably hardware, bring it back

Well it does connect to my home network, and a router reset didn't show significant improvement. I know that issue and it's happened where none of the devices on my home network can connect, and a router reset fixes that no problem.
I guess my initial complaint was more of a signal strength issue. It does still connect, but it has about half as much strength as before, on multiple networks, in the same locations I used to get full signal. So it's probably hardware. Thanks!

[Q] New Lead and Wifi Dropping like crazy

My wifi connection is dropping within seconds of connection. The phone switches to 3g, wifi turns back on and connects again for a few seconds, drops then kicks back onto 3g.
Ive had this issue on multiple roms, so I am relating it to something similar to RezRom and CleanRom or to the leak itself.
Anybody have ANY ideas?
Update: seems that after the firmware update, my router and phone did not like each other. I was able to tweak my router quite a bit and it appears that the dropping connection issue is resolved.

It is a wireless N router? I do believe I read that our phones are having issues when on the 5Ghz band.

The phone does not have 5GHz abilities, but regular 2.4Ghz N is supported.
Via Rezound using XDA Premium
EDIT: Take that back, however it doesn't see any of my 5Ghz access points here at all.
I have a wireless N router at home with no problems. It is on the 2.4ghz band though. I think.

What settings did you wind up changing? I have a similar issue with my phone and one of my routers.

Ditto. My wi-fi is dropping intermittently. If I toggle it off and back on, it starts working again.
What router tweaks did you do or phone tweaks?
My rezound picks up N 5ghz just fine.

I'm having the same problem. However, mine doesn't drop out within seconds, it'll probably be good for a couple hours then I'll notice it's trying to sync with my Exchange server for a while, and will eventually time out and then I lose all internet connectivity until I turn wifi off and back on again. This happens on multiple wifi networks, including wireless-N and non wireless-N.
I do also see that the 3g icon will come and go every few seconds when connected to wifi. Anyone know if this is just a bug with the new ICS leak or is there some kind of fix floating around?

I am unlocked and rooted but I am running the stock ROM and mine does exactly what yours is doing. I don't actually know if this happens outside of my house since I'm generally using 3/4G then.
I have a thread on this in the question section but no answers yet.

This is true. The rezound does seem to have 5ghz capability. However my POS netgear doesnt get the same distance on 5ghz as 2.4ghz.
As far as what I did was actually reset my router and update firmware. This seems to have fixed the issue for now. I only started having this issue with the updated leak and it was happening on all roms and even stock. Reinstalling a ROM would fix it for about 2 to 3 minutes then it was back to switching between both data and wifi.
My phone burned up the battery in a matter of an hour and half as it was constantly going from wifi to 3g.
My phone does the same thing!! I think it happpened when I flashed the new leak zip without re locking vootkoader. In hoping that official ics will fix it

Just curious if anyone found a solid solution to the Wifi problem that we seem to be experiencing with the new leak? I tried the suggestion of disabling auto wifi in the dock mode but that didn't seem to fix it for me. I guess I'm just trying to see if this is widespread, or if it's only affecting certain people in different scenarios. It doesn't seem to be getting as much attention as the overheating/battery life issues that others are reporting.
So far I've tried connecting to multiple networks with different security types (open, wpa, wpa2, wep) all seem to the have the same result of showing that wifi is connected, works for a couple of hours, then will lose wifi connectivity, even though the wifi indicator is showing that it's connected. I've done everything i can think of other than re-flashing the ICS leak. I've also never unlocked my phone, just installed the update per the original instructions on Android Police.

Wifi signal keeps getting lost

My wifi signal keeps getting lost even if I sit in front of my antenna. It holds for a few minutes than it drops. Seems to hold for everyone but me. I'm on stock 4.1.2. Anyone knows a wifi code for configuration or a trick? Tired of the switching to 3g and back everytime. Thanks in advance.

Yep a lot of us have this nonsense. Tried a lot of things, nothing worked. There were users who successfully solved this problem by reconfiguring their router to wifi signal G only or N only, can't remember correctly. But it's more like workaround and not solving the problem itself.
I use a free app called WiFi reconnect. It will keep you connected by reconnecting if it drops automatically.
