Wifi signal keeps getting lost - Motorola Droid RAZR

My wifi signal keeps getting lost even if I sit in front of my antenna. It holds for a few minutes than it drops. Seems to hold for everyone but me. I'm on stock 4.1.2. Anyone knows a wifi code for configuration or a trick? Tired of the switching to 3g and back everytime. Thanks in advance.

Yep a lot of us have this nonsense. Tried a lot of things, nothing worked. There were users who successfully solved this problem by reconfiguring their router to wifi signal G only or N only, can't remember correctly. But it's more like workaround and not solving the problem itself.

I use a free app called WiFi reconnect. It will keep you connected by reconnecting if it drops automatically.

WiFi Problem?

So I just picked up a Thunderbolt from a local Verizon corporate store. The sales rep told me NOT to use WiFi on my phone because of an issue all Thunderbolts are having. She said once connected to WiFi, it won't be able to switch back to 3G unless you perform a factory reset. It sounds like a load of crappy to me, but I'd rather play it safe. Can anyone confirm or deny this out there? Thanks in advance!

I think I've read about a few people having that issue, but simply switching airplane mode on and off fixes it, I believe.
Pretty sure that rep didn't know what the hell she was talking about. I think it's a safe bet these and other boards would be blowing up if there was a problem as massive as that affecting ALL Thunderbolts.
And my wifi is fine!
yea mine doesnt want to switch back to 3g but a simple restart does the trick, and some vzw reps are idiots deff no factory reset
I use wifi all the time, no problems here.
I use WiFi at home and 3G when i'm at work, i have no problem switching between the two, the sales rep that you were talking to doesn't know what he was talking about

Same here no problems switching from wifi to 3G or to 4G
I've heard people complain about this, but the solution for now seems to be turning airplane mode on and back off. From what I've seen it's not a super common problem, I've never had an issue.
Yup, no problems here.

Sometimes my wifi stops working even when its been on all day. It shows its connected and I have a strong signal, but when I try to use an app that needs a connection the app wont connect. The only thing that fixes it is turning wifi off and back on again. On top of that I noticed huge drains on my battery when this happens.

same thing happens to me. then if I turn off my Wi-Fi sometimes to try and get a 3g connection it takes like 10-15 tries to get a data connection. And even sometimes when that happens I'll turn my Wi-Fi back on and my Wi-Fi acts buggy, doesn't connect... I'll have to try the airplane mode trick
I have the same problem. Changing the EPST setting as found from an Engadget Post:
HTC Thunderbolt 3G data problems solved?
By Myriam Joire posted Mar 30th 2011 7:43AM
Sort of fixed the problem. However, I rooted to Tesla Coil and now cannot use the "##778#" easter egg dialer anymore.
Just tried the Airplane mode and phone rebooted, doh. Again, after starting up WiFi, no 3G coverage.

No problems here. I use wifi 90% of the day. Although, strangly my router now shuts off its wifi signal ever since I bought this phone. I have to go into my router and setup the network again.

[Q] Droid Razr, wifi issues???

I'm having issues with connection to wifi, anyone else??
wifi connects & then disconnects before Google.com even loads....then it reconnects again...and then goes around in a circle. Sometimes it last a little longer, but only long enough to keep my hopes up.
as soon as i got my RAZR i rooted it asap ....so now, I am unsure if its the handset, root, MotoBlur or something else?
ive checked and can't find any threads about this. anyone else have any issues or suggestions ....I will be very greatful for any response .. thanks
I 2nd That
You're not alone. I also noticed an issue with WiFi when using it for the first time. My RAZR is not rooted, so it looks like that isn't the issue. It contantly drops its WiFi connection, and can sometimes go several minutes before reconnecting. As far as I can tell at this point, signal strength does not seem to be a factor. I hope this will be corrected in the next patch.
I have also noticed that it randomly drop its LTE connection and reverts to 3G, even though it had great LTE signal... but this happened a lot with my Thunderbolt too, so I doubt its a device issue...
I'm running wpa-personal at home with no issues. What wireless security have you had issues with?

I guess to be more specific, i'm running wpa2 with aes cipher.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using XDA App
I have WPA2-Personal in place also
You could kill your encryption for a bit to rule it out as an issue.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using XDA App
Not a bad idea, I will try that later today. Something must be up though, as my Thunderbolt worked just fine on that AP on 11/10. Thanks.
check bluetooth
I noticed wifi issues as well connections would drop or jump from AP to AP, but wouldn't connect. It seemed to be when I had bluetooth enabled at the same time. My connection speeds would drop (if it worked) to ~2Mbps, instead of the usual 13-14 I was getting. Once I turned BT off, no problems, no disconnects. Bluetooth did not effect my 4G/LTE, which is very strong where I live.
AP's:
Buffalo WHR-54GS
Cisco/Linksys E1000 v1
both running DD-WRT, WPA2
hmm... So far so good with Bluetooth off. Looks like we're on to something, thanks for the suggestion.
I started experiencing the wifi dropouts after installing Skype. I downloaded the non Verizon version of Skype and what I noticed is that when I open the app, it kills the wifi connection. It doesn't turn it off, it just appears to disable the wifi connection. It appears that I have to log off Skype and reboot and the wifi works fine.
Do you guys have Skype installed also?

same issue bad wifi connection ,,,, where is MOTO ??? please wake up and correct this fault, i remember the same issue was with SGS2 but it was solved after patch by samsung....
this issue is really teasing me alot,,
I found (on another forum) potential cause:
Turns out the milestone doesn't play well with newer models of wireless routers that use AEP authentication. Apparantly the milestone will sometimes send some inappropriate data to the router, which AEP authentication feels is a nono and so boots the device off the network until you manually reconnect. That's my understanding anyway.
The fix for me was to change my router encryption from WPA2-PSK to WPA-PSK (I have a siemens router supplied by Orcon). Since I've made the changes a few days ago I haven't had a single drop out. Hope it works for you too.

I can confirm that I'm experiencing wifi drops only with WPA2 encryption on AP.
My Razr (XT910) works well at 5 GHz. When I tried to switch to 2.4 GHz frequency I had constant drop. Could be interference i guess! Once i switched back to 5 GHz haven't had a problem. Don't think Droid Razr (XT912) supports 5 GHz frequency though!
I have major WiFi problems. It can only detect my home router if it is in the same room or the room above it!
My three year old HTC Hero can see 7 networks up and down the street.
It's so bad that I could not recommend this phone to anyone who (like me) needs to be able to connect to WiFi on the move.
I have no idea who such a major fault in this otherwise fantastic phone could have been allowed.
I still have a few days left to return it but am not sure what the alternative would be. I had a Sensation XE that was great but like a brick compared to the Razr!
I hope there is a fix on the way.
Anyone else?
My wifi problem is that it can pick up router signal from too far. Even downstairs. My router is 4 floors up ...

[Q] New Lead and Wifi Dropping like crazy

My wifi connection is dropping within seconds of connection. The phone switches to 3g, wifi turns back on and connects again for a few seconds, drops then kicks back onto 3g.
Ive had this issue on multiple roms, so I am relating it to something similar to RezRom and CleanRom or to the leak itself.
Anybody have ANY ideas?
Update: seems that after the firmware update, my router and phone did not like each other. I was able to tweak my router quite a bit and it appears that the dropping connection issue is resolved.

It is a wireless N router? I do believe I read that our phones are having issues when on the 5Ghz band.

The phone does not have 5GHz abilities, but regular 2.4Ghz N is supported.

EDIT: Take that back, however it doesn't see any of my 5Ghz access points here at all.
I have a wireless N router at home with no problems. It is on the 2.4ghz band though. I think.

Ditto. My wi-fi is dropping intermittently. If I toggle it off and back on, it starts working again.
What router tweaks did you do or phone tweaks?

I'm having the same problem. However, mine doesn't drop out within seconds, it'll probably be good for a couple hours then I'll notice it's trying to sync with my Exchange server for a while, and will eventually time out and then I lose all internet connectivity until I turn wifi off and back on again. This happens on multiple wifi networks, including wireless-N and non wireless-N.
I do also see that the 3g icon will come and go every few seconds when connected to wifi. Anyone know if this is just a bug with the new ICS leak or is there some kind of fix floating around?

I am unlocked and rooted but I am running the stock ROM and mine does exactly what yours is doing. I don't actually know if this happens outside of my house since I'm generally using 3/4G then.
I have a thread on this in the question section but no answers yet.

This is true. The rezound does seem to have 5ghz capability. However my POS netgear doesnt get the same distance on 5ghz as 2.4ghz.
As far as what I did was actually reset my router and update firmware. This seems to have fixed the issue for now. I only started having this issue with the updated leak and it was happening on all roms and even stock. Reinstalling a ROM would fix it for about 2 to 3 minutes then it was back to switching between both data and wifi.
My phone burned up the battery in a matter of an hour and half as it was constantly going from wifi to 3g.
My phone does the same thing!! I think it happpened when I flashed the new leak zip without re locking vootkoader. In hoping that official ics will fix it

Just curious if anyone found a solid solution to the Wifi problem that we seem to be experiencing with the new leak? I tried the suggestion of disabling auto wifi in the dock mode but that didn't seem to fix it for me. I guess I'm just trying to see if this is widespread, or if it's only affecting certain people in different scenarios. It doesn't seem to be getting as much attention as the overheating/battery life issues that others are reporting.
So far I've tried connecting to multiple networks with different security types (open, wpa, wpa2, wep) all seem to the have the same result of showing that wifi is connected, works for a couple of hours, then will lose wifi connectivity, even though the wifi indicator is showing that it's connected. I've done everything i can think of other than re-flashing the ICS leak. I've also never unlocked my phone, just installed the update per the original instructions on Android Police.

Wifi not working despite full bars and signal

Hello everyone, this is my first post here. Awesome, I know. I was curious if any of you experience a weird wifi issue. I have full signal and the bars are indicating things are good, but I cannot access my internet from my bed. I can move about 5 feet towards the door and it works just fine. My old EVO 4G wimax has never had a problem, and could work outside even. Do you all think I just have a bad phone and I should return for another one, or is this maybe just a glitch that others are experiencing and i should just wait for a fix.
I have the same issues with, and without, the best wifi performance enabled.
I'm open to suggestions, as I really love the phone.
I have had this happen too. I don't believe the number of bars showing is correct. And that in fact the signal was weak.

You can try to disablr then reconnect again. Sometimes this helps. I also have mine set to 2.4ghz only and I installed wifi manager. I haven't had any wifi issues since. I hope this helps.

Try to set it to 2.4 only. My router doesnt like it any other way.
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
Does your router firmware show you the signal strength of each connection? I would leave your phone in the room that is causing problems and then check the signal strength. Also try this just to be in the clear:
Forget network on phone, delete and release lease on router (if you have it set up this way), reboot phone, reboot router. Now try to reconnect again.
The above is always worth a shot. Reply with results and we'll take it from there

Thank you all for the advice. I changed this to 2.4 ghz only and it works perfectly now.
I have similar problems even after the update that I though fixed the wifi issues. Now instead of it reconnecting like you said it shows connected and I have to cycle it on and off to get it to work. Very frustrating. Guess will have to wait for an ota again.

Do you have "avoid poor WiFi connections" and "connection priority mode enabled"? If so, un-check them. It works for me.

not sure if this is the same as your issue, but some of us have noticed that the LGOG doesn't seem to toggle between networks (ie: from LTE to wifi or vise versa). toggling airplane mode or rebooting seems to correct it.

Sounds similar to my experience. I'll pick up the phone from time to time and notice that WIFI icon is off and it's on 4G. When I go to the Networks menu it shows my router but says "poor signal". Oh really? it's 18 inches away and every other wireless device stays connected rock solid. I've tried toggling Wireless off/on and Airplane mode off/on and the only way to get it to reconnect is a full reboot. I'm hoping this new release fixes it - if not, it's going back to ATT.
