WiFi not staying connected - AT&T LG Optimus G

Well while writing this post my phone had its first crash but besides that I noticed while trying to run my cable providers brighthouse app my phone doesn't stay connected to WiFi. I'm only rooted an I only notices this one since I'm always on data

Read thru the other WiFi issue thread seems like att hotspot might be the problem. I am going to BB tomorrow to claim my Bluetooth headset might just switch it there while I'm at it

Do you have "avoid poor WiFi connections" and "connection priority mode enabled"? If so, un-check them. It works for me.

I actually just disabled the att WiFi thru the app I guess it puts it I. Sleep mode. I am not too worried looking to ROM out soon just wanted to get familiar with LG. Since this is my first. Just got a ill worried that the phone froze earlier while trying to write post.

not sure if this is the same as your issue, but some of us have noticed that the LGOG doesn't seem to toggle between networks (ie: from LTE to wifi or vise versa). toggling airplane mode or rebooting seems to correct it.

Read the thread but doesn't seem to be the same problem I'm experiencing. I was always use to having my phone auto connect to my wifi whenever i got home but that doesnt seem the case with the OG.

Sounds similar to my experience. I'll pick up the phone from time to time and notice that WIFI icon is off and it's on 4G. When I go to the Networks menu it shows my router but says "poor signal". Oh really? it's 18 inches away and every other wireless device stays connected rock solid. I've tried toggling Wireless off/on and Airplane mode off/on and the only way to get it to reconnect is a full reboot. I'm hoping this new release fixes it - if not, it's going back to ATT.

Rooted? Unlocked? ROM or kernel changed?
I just started having this same issue about a week ago not long after I flashed theBase 7.3, and kernelSk8 2.2.

I had this exact issue until I read somewhere on here about using the att smart WiFi app. It connects instantly when get home, haven't had a problem since.

WiFi Problem?

So I just picked up a Thunderbolt from a local Verizon corporate store. The sales rep told me NOT to use WiFi on my phone because of an issue all Thunderbolts are having. She said once connected to WiFi, it won't be able to switch back to 3G unless you perform a factory reset. It sounds like a load of crappy to me, but I'd rather play it safe. Can anyone confirm or deny this out there? Thanks in advance!

I think I've read about a few people having that issue, but simply switching airplane mode on and off fixes it, I believe.
Pretty sure that rep didn't know what the hell she was talking about. I think it's a safe bet these and other boards would be blowing up if there was a problem as massive as that affecting ALL Thunderbolts.
And my wifi is fine!
yea mine doesnt want to switch back to 3g but a simple restart does the trick, and some vzw reps are idiots deff no factory reset
I use wifi all the time, no problems here.
I use WiFi at home and 3G when i'm at work, i have no problem switching between the two, the sales rep that you were talking to doesn't know what he was talking about

Same here no problems switching from wifi to 3G or to 4G
I've heard people complain about this, but the solution for now seems to be turning airplane mode on and back off. From what I've seen it's not a super common problem, I've never had an issue.
Yup, no problems here.

Sometimes my wifi stops working even when its been on all day. It shows its connected and I have a strong signal, but when I try to use an app that needs a connection the app wont connect. The only thing that fixes it is turning wifi off and back on again. On top of that I noticed huge drains on my battery when this happens.

same thing happens to me. then if I turn off my Wi-Fi sometimes to try and get a 3g connection it takes like 10-15 tries to get a data connection. And even sometimes when that happens I'll turn my Wi-Fi back on and my Wi-Fi acts buggy, doesn't connect... I'll have to try the airplane mode trick
I have the same problem. Changing the EPST setting as found from an Engadget Post:

Sort of fixed the problem. However, I rooted to Tesla Coil and now cannot use the "##778#" easter egg dialer anymore.
Just tried the Airplane mode and phone rebooted, doh. Again, after starting up WiFi, no 3G coverage.

Why does my WiFi keep turning ON?

I have had the Galaxy S3 for just over a week now. It's rooted, but still running the stock ROM. Honestly, I like it how it is, though I did want backup and recovery options. Waiting for Cyanogenmod's version 10 when it's more stable. ;-)
Anyway, for now the WiFi connection keeps turning ON when I'm just out and around with the phone on 3g (ugh, LTE not lit up yet..). Is it turning on because I'm getting spotty signal? I don't really see it being a battery drain (I'll get a full 24 hours or even 36 with regular usage and WiFi on:good but it's unexpected behavior - and I don't like unexpected behavior.
Any reasons why this is happening? Any fixes for it?
Are you on Verizon? They set it up to keep reminding you to connect to wifi when it finds an available wifi connection. Search through the development section as there are ways to get rid of that.

No, Sprint. Should have specified that, sorry. But I'll poke around in the development section and see.
It was buried in Settings, More Settings, Mobile Networks, Automatic Connections. So simple!
I think that option is so it can connect too 4G as well, unless I totally misunderstood that when I read it

[Q] Sporadic 4G LTE on Rezound - Possible Fix?

I scanned this forum before creating this post and I'm pretty sure there isn't one already out there but please don't flame me if there is. I couldn't find any and I spent a good 30 minutes last night, trying to find something like this.
I purchased a used HTC Rezound recently but was unable to get 4G LTE to stay ON. I surfed various forums for a possible fix but couldn't find anything that I hadn't already tried.
This morning, I think I might have found a work-around. Here's what I did.
After activating the line and being able to get sporadic 4G LTE signal on the device, I went into the wifi settings on a hunch that maybe some unexplicable interaction was happening between wifi and the 4G radio. Wifi kept wanting to turn itself on and I kept fighting it by turning it off.
I located my home network and clicked 'forget network'. Once I did that, I went back to make sure wifi was OFF and that Mobile (data) was ON and WHAMMO!! Immediately, the 4G LTE indicator popped back on and I've been rocking 4G for about 2 hours now, without a single blip. I've watched an entire episode of 24 on Netflix in an area of my house where I've confirmed that I have a weak signal and still, no problems at all.
So my Question is this: Is there any other way to disable wifi without having to 'forget' the network when I want to use wifi? (Other than what might seem obvious by turning wifi OFF when I know that doesn't get rid of the 4G dropouts).
It's really only an inconvenience at this stage. All I'd have to do to connect is re-enter the password and since I don't use wifi when I'm at home because I have Unlimited Data, it's not really a big deal but it just seems that the OS on this phone was purposely designed in a way to take people OFF the 4G network when their phone is 'familiar' with a wifi system they're near.
======================== UPDATE ====================
There is no issue with the phone. The issue was an activation issue and I was able to eliminate the problem by trial and error. It turns out, the way I was able to get the device to connect had to do with re-seating the SIM. Once I did, the phone has been flawless in connectivity to both 4G LTE and wifi regardless of the combination of wifi settings. I hope this is useful to anyone reading the thread.
Is your Rezound stock or custom?
LTE will disable when WiFi is activated, most LTE phone does this by design. I have experienced where my Rezound's WiFi would want to turn on automatically on the clean rom, re-flashed and everything was good.
I personally never had issues with my Rezound. If fact, the Rezound has one of the best radios to date. The fact that HTC integrated the antenna into the battery case housing is what makes it a strong contender for receiving radio waves..

Go in advanced settings wifi settings (menu advanced settings)and disable the automatically turn on wifi setting. (Not exactly sure what its called as I hate sense and I'm not running it) but ull see it in advanced settings and then when u want to actually use wifi just enable wifi.

Well, I'm on stock ICS but rooted with S-OFF. The wifi, even when OFF kept wanting to turn ON by itself when I wanted it to stay on 4G. The only way I could get the phone to stay on 4G was to 'forget' my home network.
All is well now. Weird huh?
Sent from my rooted HTC Rezound with S-OFF using ICS on Verizon's periodically blazing fast and mostly reliable network
The Rezound has a poor shield on the 4g radio chip which causes interference in music. So, logically if stuff can get out, then wifi can come in and mess it up.
Dude read what I said and it will never automatically turn on again.
That's the reason it kept automatically turning it on. And if u haven't done what I said then regardless of you thinking its fixed it WILL turn on again by itself.

There's no such setting that I can find within the settings and I know which setting you're referring to. I saw it before on my Thunderbolt but for the life of me, I can't find it on the Rezound's menus. Anywhere. I looked several times. I'm pretty sure it's there. I just can't find it so the only way I could get the 4G to stay on and not have wifi automatically connect was to 'forget' the wifi network.

After root I tried the method that worked on the S3 and it didn't fix it for me. Anyone else try yet? Or have another method besides modifying the wifi_networks_available_notification_on value?

Are we talking about the message that says "Wi-FI networks available" if you leave Wi-Fi enabled 24/7 and travel around, and your phone finds open routers?
Because I am rocking an old Thunderbolt still with an ICS AOSP ROM and it does that as well.
If this issue is different however please explain.

There is a notification that ALWAYS displays your WiFi status. Doesn't matter if your WiFi is turned off, connected to a network, or aren't connected to a network. It never goes away.

Ah thanks I see now. That is really stupid. On every other version of the Note 2 (Intl + all non-Verizon US carriers) there is a Wi-Fi toggle in the top power bar, but not on Verizon. GG Verizon ruining everything they get their greedy little hands on.

[Q] Intermittent Data Connection

Does anybody know what is going on?
Problem: Data will periodically not work. (No indication on the status bar)
It is also worth mentioning that I have already used over 7 gigs in this bill cycle, and am most likely being throttled
Current Work-around: Enable airplane mode, then disable airplane mode. This works 95% of the time. If it does not, I reset the phone.
Has anyone else seen this type of behavior?
It happens to me. Called Att about the the situation and they checked the surrounding towers, told me reset the phone, blah, blah, blah. They told me to go to my Att local warranty repair shop and swap it out. Lol.

So the data indicator disappears altogether? Does the issue occur in multiple locations more than a few miles apart? When data returns is it slow, pages time out etc or does it function as it should? Has it been that way since you got the phone or did you notice it after a change to the device (software update/ change in software)?

The indicator on the status bar is unchanged. You can have full bars showing 4g, and this will happen.
This occurs all over the place. (My apartment, office, etc)
When it returns, everything is normal and fast.
I flashed The Base about one week after getting the phone (got it right before Thanksgiving). Started noticing this behavior maybe 2-3 weeks ago. (also random reboots, but this thing reboots so fast I could care less.)
If it's occurring everywhere you go it's def not a network issue, could potentially be related to provisioning but its doubtful, if you're being throttled it would be consistent edge speeds not intermittent on then off. All signs point to device, could be hardware but 90 percent of the time it's software related. You could call tech support first, they can verify its not provisioning or network related then will recommend flash back to stock or you can just skip the call and flash first. If all else fails hardware would be the culprit in which case its covered under manufacturers warranty. On a side note I do know our roaming agreement for some parts of TX expired a few weeks ago and that could potentially be related to your issues, although if you show good sig and others around you hadn't been experiencing the same probs you could rule that out too.
Happened to me on pure stock. I rooted and it stopped. No clue what caused it.

I've had the same issue. it's like the device isn't switching between wifi and LTE properly. sometimes it transitions just fine and other times it only looks like i have a connection. in fact, some things will come thru, like email...but web browsing or facebook do not work. if i do the 'airplane mode' trick or I'll just reboot it the issue is resolved.
I'm hoping CM10 will correct this issue...if not, I'll go back to stock and try to swap the device.

I'm having the issue well. I called att and they said they were going to replace the sim and if that didn't fix it, they would see what LG said for warranty replacement. I just noticed it a few weeks ago.
I'm completely stock.
Happening to me too on my replacement device. For example I will try to access an address via Google Maps and it will say "No Connection" despite '4g' displaying with full bars. A toggle to airplane mode and back fixes the issue - and all of a sudden LTE will show up. This did not happen on my previous LGOG and I'm running the same software environment (unlocked, thebase .73) It's frustrating for sure.

This problem presented itself to me yesterday. It basically went into airplane mode by itself and then immediately reconnected. It was after a phone call, when it was switching back to lte.
I think this is a baseband software problem as well. That ~300MB ota seems to have a new modem bin in it so it'll be nice to see if the newer radio firmware helps. Moden bins seem to be easily dd'd from pc to phone.

I'm on T-Mobile and having this issue, I wasn't before on my old Sensation 4g so I know it isn't the area that I'm in.
I work two weeks at a time in an area where I don't get data coverage (even cell coverage is spotty at best). I do have access to (slow) WiFi. I've noticed that if I connect to the WiFi, then go out of range or if my phone goes into deep sleep, when the phone tries to reconnect, sometimes it will tell me I'm connected, but have no actual connection (404 error when loading websites), or it will tell me the WiFi network is out of range, when I know it's not.
The only way I can get it to reconnect is to reboot. The airplane mode on/off trick doesn't work for me.
Is this part of the same issue as the switching from data to WiFi? Anyone have any clue as to how to fix this?
