Hello,
After reading other threads, I've decided that I should post my case to see if I get a better answer.
A couple of days ago after being with SuperNexus 2.0 for a few months I decided to try the stock LSS ROM, I didn't like it and went back to SuperNexus again wiping the Battery Stats in the process to see if my battery life could improve (I know it's a myth, but I tried it anyway). After this my 1.2 years old battery has been crazy:
- Sometimes it will completely discharge it doesn't matter at what percentage the battery is.
- Sometimes the phone will shut down like if the battery is at 0% and it won't turn on again, but if I connect it to the charger it will show some charge (close to the one it has before the phone shut down) and the phone will turn on again. After this I can immediately remove the charger and the phone will work like normal.
What I don't like is that just before the phone randomly shuts down, the screen starts blinking and/or the phone hangs (it doesn't respond to the touch). I'm worry this could be damaging the phone itself.
Please refer to the screenshots (there is not photoshop involved, I swear).
I've tried to charge it to 100% (trying to get it as close to 4.2V as possible), I have pump charged it (disconnect/connect the charger until it doesn't drop to less than 100% immediately), reflash the ROM (wiping/format system, data, dalvik, cache, etc. the usual suspects), etc. but no luck.
I know it looks like a faulty battery, but it has never shown this behavior until I sadly deleted the Battery Stats. Will a new battery solve the problem or it will just be the same?
Any thoughts? Any help/recommendation will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance for the help.
Cheers.
P.S.: I have to say that before all this I was running Dori 9.14, but I ran the Kernel and the ROM wipe scripts (I know the ROM wipe runs the Kernel script too) between flashes.

Wiping Battery Stats is never a problem, people even do that to reset Battery estimates, try a reflash and a more stable kernel. As far as I know Dori 9.14 is not playing nice with some people.

Yes it sounds weird that deleting a file will screw your battery, but the coincidence here is huge, that's what I don't understand. With respect to Dori 9.14 (I only used it for a couple of weeks), yes i was running it before I did all this, I'm now running the stock Kernel that comes with SuperNexus (which never gave this kind of problems before).
I also removed the battery to see if it was maybe a faulty connection, but it stays in place very tightly.
Cheers.

And im not sure what to do. I need some advice because I just cant find the issue! This morning was the final straw, my phone was at 100% charged and all i did was take about a 3 hour nap woke up to an over heated phone and the battery at 10%. WTH?? I use cpu spy and juice defender and nothing. I barely have any apps other than a wellsfargo one and 3g watchdog. Im running [ROM]<=TASK650's ICS'd OUT! V5 right now and i just switched over from cm7 because i thought maybe that would've been the problem? I dont know if its a deep sleep issue because ill look over at it sometimes and the screen just turns on out of nowhere and ill have to press the sleep button for it to turn back off. It also like to randomly turn off as it please. AHH THE FRUSTRATION .
Anyway enough rant can someone help? Or at least give some advice on what I should try or do? Thanks.
Your screenshots are inconsistent with your stated behavior... Loss of 20-30%/hour and an overheated phone says the thing is stuck at 1200 MHz and full load - but your CPUSpy graph shows only 9% at 1200, and a total of maybe 40-50 minutes since reset.
Also the battery graph in your first shot has a major discontinuity... It drops from 100% to 10% instantly. I've seen glitches of 20-30% jumps at a time after a fuel gauge reset, but never anything like that.
So then what your saying is I should kill it with fire and then return it and grab another one? lol I dont know anyone else with this type of situation. Im not just one to go and ask a question because im too lazy to search. I swear i looked and googled EVERYWHERE for some type of solution but i just haven't found someone with this type of problem.
as Entropy mentioned, that jump in the first screenshot makes no sense. You should probably recalibrate the fuel gauge.
Looking at the 2nd screenshot, a lack of deep sleep seems to be the culprit. You'll need to track down what's keeping your phone awake. I've read something about exporting the wakelock log but perhaps there's already an app for that...
Also, clicking on the graph (in the first SS) will show you a more detailed burn down which might help isolate the issue.
Lastly, did you change kernels as well?
Im sorry im fairly new at this. It just has the kernel that the rom came with. I recalibrated the fuel gauge like you said and retook some screen shots that ill just leave here. It keeps over heating and Shutting off on me every half hour or so. On top of that The battery just drains in a mater of 3 to 4 hours. I think the problem is just the phone itself. Im going to try and put the original stock rom on it later this week when i have time (Finals are driving me crazy) and then Im going to try and send it back and get another one. I might need a usb jig thingy tho. Its very frustrating this phone isn't even a month old and like i said before i googled for a full hour and a half and I just couldnt find a solution to this.
mmmk this just happened.
That certainly doesn't look normal. When it takes those sharp dives is the phone rebooting? Also when you flashed your new ROM did you wipe all data in cwm first?

I had a similar problem (phone got extremely hot) when i first flashed to UnNamed but after re-calibrating the fuel gauge a few times everything was all good.

Suggest running better battery stats from a full charge and when you get that instant drop go into bbs look at partial wake locks.
Also have you done any
oc/uc ?

Yes it shuts off every half hour or so and when i realize it and turn it back on the battery is drained significantly and yes i wiped all the data in cwm.

Ok Ill definitely give that a try the moment I have a chance and report back here the results. I haven't done any oc/uc either. Thank you guys for taking the time to help me figure this out.
I would try a CWM Backup. Then Factory Reset, Cache Wipe. Then install a fresh copy of Task v6. If that doesn't fix it, restore back to your backup you did.
I was having fun with undervolting myself (would crash my phone). Every battery pull I did, I lost 20-50% battery life. JUST turning the phone back on! Though in my case the phone would stick at this percentage for a long time, then when it caught up, eventually draining. I would assume the battery was not calibrated, but people keep telling me "this battery does not need calibration" (Whatever).
It seemed to fix itself for me though, after letting it drain down a bit more. I let it fully charge this time with the official wall charger. This was with Task & Siyah. Has not happened since.
I hope your battery works itself out!

kk so I'd guess your battery really isn't that low, it's just reading low after those reboots. For whatever reason sometimes the phone will show a significant loss after a reboot, but really didn't lose that much. However something still isn't rite obviously. I'd suggest redownloading your ROM and clearing/wiping everything in CWM. And do a fresh install. Someone might be better able to help, but if I was getting random power downs that's probably what I'd try. (I might be wrong, but I don't see how wakelocks would be causing it to power down)

Thanks for the input everyone. I just got back from class now and my phones dead no surprise there but Im gonna let it charge back up and ill repost some screen shots of cpu spy and betterbatterystats since i just got that running on the phone. Afterwards Im going to try to just wipe everything on cwm reinstall a rom and see what happens from there. I bought a usb jig that should be coming in by the end of the week just in case all else fails and i'll just send it to att and have them ship me a new one. Thanks for all the feedback you guys are awesome!
OH I forgot to mention I dont think the phone actually shuts off because I was talking on it for a bit but i was talking through my bluetooth headset. I went to check if i had a text message and the screen wouldn't power on but I was still able to talk on the phone WTF? Makes no sense to me.
Really starting to wonder if your CPU has voltages it can't handle...
Hi,
I have a big problem with my phone. Sometimes it simply shutdowns just after booting. And sometimes it shutdowns if I use it in a normal way (like listening to music or browsing on Facebook) And the battery is not at 0%. It happens at each percentage. This afternoon it even happened at 85%.
The only I thing I noticed that this is not happening if the phone is connected with the power supply.
Have someone of you the same problem? Can someone help me?
Greetings

Thanks. I already changed my ROM. From CM7 I went back to Wolfbreak. But there is the same problem.
Perhaps it is a battery problem? Should I buy a new battery?
Hi,man i have that problem too,
So,i see that if i plug my charger with no battery and pull the back button then the green light appear like in flash mode.so if you pull the battery when you have this led on,your battery indicates wrong values,in another way if your battery have 5% and you pull it with this strange flashmode then it indicate 88%.
Another symptom is that you not have the long vibration when you pull
out the battery and re pull on
Another one is if you remove sim and sdcard and boot the phone then you have the right battery values and no suck on your batttery for exemple,
in this mode my battery stay at 98% 4 hour O_O
The major problem is that your phone is in flash mode all the time and eat buttery and give wrong values and give WLOD at boot, normaly one before lock and one after.
I don't know what do that but give massive battery drain, massive network usage, and
Constant reboot.
I suspect virus or something like that.
Don't lose your time to try to reflash firmware or different rom cause that not solve the problem,
I reflash 1.6 2.1 2.3 and many custom rom with no success
Tell me if you have the green led when no battery and charger pluged and pull back key repetitively for appear this led
to ensure that you have the same problem.
If I find a way a post here for sure but I think that my phone is dead :-(
I know this is a bit old but I'm necro'ing it just in case it helps someone.
I had the same issue with my stock Optimus One, I installed AOKP and it worked like a charm.
Now i've had my Xperia Neo V for a while now with a custom version of AOKP and had no problem until recently, haven't installed anything new just a couple of updates, filled a new sdcard with music and it shut down out of the blue.
if you have shutdown problemes, it can be motherboard issue, ROM or kernel. Try reinstall android OS, and if you still got shutdowns try different kernel or ROM. I tested many combination and I didnt get any shutdown with Zmod ROM + Doomkernel ( I dont want to promote this rom or kernel, just writing my personal experience) . After changing kernel and ROM you could have batery drain, or it can looks like that. Wipe battery stats and recalibrate the battery. System need some time to create good new battery stats. 2 charging cycles and is good in most cases. Battery drain depends on that how you using phone so charging every day ( once per day) is normal.
It sounds like the 'Old Battery' issue! LiPol/LiIon batteries only have a life span of about 2 years. X10 is older than that now!

Hi, I got a very annoying problem.
Since a few weeks ago, flashed a ROM and when I've tried to use the phone, it keeps turning off randomly, sometimes after a few minutes, sometimes after hours. So, I tried to take it back to the clean original 2.3.3 ROM, but it keeps happening. ¿Any idea? ¿Any solution? Please, help me.
Oh, something else, it only happens when the phone's used with the battery, when it's attached to my laptop and used as modem, the problem doesn't appear.
I had the same problem, it said android system shutting down. I just bought new battery and it works.

Maybe calibrating the battery.

go back to stock and see if it helps! try to troubleshoot the problem! Also, don't install any apps!
There are instructions on how to calibrate your battery in the first post in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1489214&highlight=calibrate+battery
If the problem is the battery, you might find that after calibration that the battery drains faster than expected, and still shuts down, only this time it warns you that it's gonna shut down. This would then be the true battery drain. If that is the case, you might just need to buy a new one anaway.
Otherwise, I don't know what else could be causing those symptoms. (Other than an electrical fault, from accumulated damp or something)

thanks so much..............
What happens it's that the phone shuts down suddenly, the message appears for a seconds and it's off. Wait for a few seconds, try to turning on again and sometimes works for some minutes, and sometimes it's keeping turning off, and off, and off. But, the battery level seems to be correct, I mean, when I turn on the phone after one of these sudden shutdowns, only drains the logical ammount of battery for starting use the phone.
I think... if the problem never appears when it's attached to the laptop and charging constantly, and magically appears when I used the phone with the battery, it's probably just a battery issue, right?
I have a similar problem to this, my phone randomly shuts down after showing the 'Android System shutting down' message but sometimes loses ALOT of battery. Last night it went from 78% to 8% after shutting down :/ I noticed it happened more often when im playing games or taking a video, things that take up more battery. When i keep it plugged in it keeps awake so the problem stops but i cant keep it in all day every day. I dont really want to buy a new battery until i really really have to, but I have had the phone and battery since the x10 first came out about 2 years ago, so anyone any other ideas? Thanks

could it be hardware problem like broke battery or bad connection on motherboard?

Yeah this happened to me before about 6 months ago, so i went to my provider (3) and they sent it away to Sony Ericsson and they sent me a whole new phone but I didnt want to do that again really, but i may have to. When im not using WiFi or 3G then it works fine, and when its plugged in to the charger it works so i guess its a case of not usuing the internet when im not near a charger
I have the same problem.
My X10 reboot random when using 3G (Wifi is still OK) and Gaming. Now i'm on Stock 2.3 and stock kernel and....wait. (Flash some ROM and change the new battery....but not solved )
Anyone help us !!! Plizzzzzzzzzzz
Maybe your solution
I had the same problem sometimes with original kernel after 1 year of using my phone.
Then i tried to install a new rom, and i was thinking the problem was solved. But it was not...
I finished by trying the X10S (v7) rom with DoomLord kernel (1113mhz) and this problem was solved...
I tried some kernels and this one was stable with a good battery life and no shutdown problem. With some other kernels i had this problem back.
So I think that kernel could be the problem.
Infortunately, with the rom X10S v8, Doomlord kernel cause issues with wifi (unable to get ip adress). So now i use kCernel-SE-stock-mod-v1 and no shutdown problem anymore.
*Maybe the solution is*
Try to change your kernel with one of thoose :
- kCernel here (in "2. kCernel-SE-stock-mod-v1")
- DoomLord (search fo x10_gb_DooMKernel-v06-1113_wifi.zip)
Note :
- With this two kernels, you'll have to download appropriate wifi patch and install it from SDcard via xRecovery
- don't try to install X10S v8 if your bootloader is locked
So, try to flash your X10 using flashtool with Doomlord kernel
Tell us if it worked, i hope it solved your problem as it do it for me.
voltage
Hi,
I have had this issue too, for the last few months. No matter what ROM/Kernel, batt stats cleared, etc, still the same. Can idle all day, but as soon as I use 3G, GPS, or use any intensive app, she shuts down.
As an experiment I installed a battery monitor that plots graphs of % charge, temp, voltage, etc over time.
I had a close look at my logged graphs and have noticed that just before each reboot, the voltage seems to dip drastically. Battery charge is fine, does not seem to matter. but a sharp drop in voltage occurs. Increased draw for the more complex tasks (3G, GPS, etc) seems to be tripping it up.
As the Battery is now 2 years old, I figured it is just starting to fail? And iv noticed lots of people are suddenly coming out and complaining about this issue.
I just ordered a few new Batteries from 'Ebay', will see how we go!...
peace.
[INFO / SOLUTION] Suddenly shuts off with red LED.
Good to know:
The X10i/a have now reached an age, where battery failures is very common nowadays. Specially if one got the device early on or just after the launch.
Symptoms of a failing battery:
* Device suddenly shuts off, even when the battery have several percent remaining.
* Device drains fast, even when not used.
* Device might just shut off for no whatsoever reason when doing something that draws a lot of power, and will restart just fine.
* Device has a surprisingly fast charge time from empty to full.
When the device shuts off all of a sudden, it's followed by the indicator LED blinking red, rapidly three times, and might repeat this at restart attempts.
Sometimes it takes several tries before the device starts up again. Battery just needed a few minutes/an hour of "rest".
There's nothing wrong with the device.
Just get a fresh replacement battery and it'll work just fine again.
But beware:
There are many fake batteries out on the market, claiming that they have higher capacity, yet very slim in size.
There's a simple rule when it comes to battery capacity:
More capacity = larger in size, which might need a special back-cover. There's no escape from that.
If one would happen to find a such incredible slim battery with super capacity, the battery security circuits and/or chemical makeup probably have been circumvented/changed, and have a high risk of catching fire and/or explode when charging/discharging.

Looks like i have smth like this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1515020 but on my RAZR XT910
When i bought my RAZR, everything was ok it was on 2.3.5 droid, when 2.3.6 released everything still was perfect, but when i started trying to setup custom ROMs, this issue started... I tried to get back to 2.3.5 through RSD - its not helped. Now i'm on T-Mobile 4.0.4, everything is the same.
Fully charged phone, idling, some calls, it goes to 80%, then it jumps to 20% then to 5%(during this, voltage drops to 3.5, but then goes up to 4.1-4.0 as it must be!) . Phone works well, it took about 4 hours for battery drainer to drain this "5%".
I tried to fully charge\discharge without using phone, i tried any tutorials that will help to "calibrate" battery. Nothing helped.
I think it happens when Voltage drops to 3.5, OS thinks that its discharged, but when it goes back to 4.1, battery lvl is still low.
Maybe someone can help me with this issue...
Now i just added battery info widget, which shows me Voltage, so i can understand charge lvl... thats annoying
And i cant go to Motorola Service(No official service in Russia) and cant return my phone, it will took a lot of time... and i think this issue must be fixed..
have you tried like the battery calibration apps in the app market?
i tried a lot of apps from market, and nothing helped.
Try do this:
Manual Calibration method:
A) Charge your phone to 100% (and let the phone charge for half an hour after the 100%)
B) Install bootstrap recovery
C) Reboot your phone through the bootstrap recovery program
D) In recovery go to advanced>wipe battery stats>Yes, wipe battery stats
E) Reboot your phone
F) Do 2 or 3 full charge/discharge cycle (100% - 15% < X =< 0% )
If this won't do, flash the stock rom and send it to RMA.
Never let the phone to reach 0% and die, your battery will take damages 'cause of that.
i think bootstrap cant be installed on T-Mobile 4.0.4
If you're rooted, you can install this
I've used it on the T-Mobile Leak without problems. Flashed the overclock.zip with it (But no overclocking on the Leak, the script won't work)
The risk is the wipe. I'm not sure, if it messed up with your Phone

That is true, but I wonder if Android seriously lets you drop your cells to 0%... It still has enough capacity to shut itself down without interruption. So I guess there might be an internal protection against reaching "real 0% charge".
Still it is not too healthy for your battery

thanks! razr is rooted, so it works!
now i'm going to test what Syriochan said
@sekall: yeah it is possible that 1% (or maybe 5%) remains, but it is also true that no developers noticed something during kernel developing for any android device. So it may be true but it's better to not let it drop under 10% or 5%
@amletika: Not sure if calibration app do the same (never tried one, always used this method) but i've had 7 android phones so far and battery life was always at it's maximum after wipe and cycles. (I believe battery stats are kernel or data related so i don't know if this will work for you, consider that maybe hardware is at fault in this case)

I have setup ics bootstrap. And made battery wipe immediately, when my phone was about 3.9V and was saying its 5% of battery. When i rebooted it was saying that this is 30%. Then i charged to 100% waited a little more and unplugged. Its about 24hours of using with normal load, and there was no battery lvl jumps!! Thank you guys!
P.s. i dont know what battery calibration apps does, I tried a lot of them, but only wipe through ics bootstrap recovery helped!

Hello. I got a lot of problems with my battery. It was all fine until i rooted and flsahed a custom rom. I flsahed jellybam and wiped cache data battrey stats and everything before. I get a lot of random shut downs and reboots and battery percentage drops. Sometimes its at for example 80% and i don't use it its in my pocket and it just shuts down. Or it sais it has 30% 40% and i receive a call or sms and it gets to 1% and shuts down and when i turn it on it has again 30 40% or slowly gets to that percentage. I tried aokp, jellybam, rainbow rom (something like that) rootbox and tried dorimanx and siyah kernel. Now i went back to stock rom and krenel but the problems are still there. I attached a pic of my batt stats so pls if anyone knows what could be the problem please help.
Edit: i tried calibrating the battery with an app and manualy shutting down the phone charging the phone to 100% and remove the battery a few minutes but that didn't change a thing

XDA the best
Nice picture, where is that? the Alps?
Sorry for the late reply i had some other stuff going around. I tried resetting the fuel gauge chip with extweeks while on siyah kernel and that didn't change anything, i tried a few more roms and kernels but the problem remains. Now i am on resurection remix 4.0.4 rom with flexy kernel and i tried reseting the fuel gauge chip with xxtweeks and again nothing changed. I guess this is a problem with the phone becouse with different roms/kernels the problem is the samo. Lately its getting worse. The phone is on the table with 80% battery and i just hear the low battery sound and when i unlock it its on 12%, and than goes to 5% and lower and shuts down. After restart it has again around the normal 80% for example. Also one day i charged it to 100% and as soon i unpluged the charger it dropped to 0% and shut down. Could it be the battery or is something seriously wrong with the phone? Thx in advance

Could be the battery.
Just try another battery from which you know it is working in your phone, and then try your 'faulty' battery in a phone from which you know it is working. This way you will know at least if it is the phone or the battery.
Thanks for thr replay. I guess i‘ll just buy a new battery and see how that goes because i don't have a spare s2 and battery to try

It should say discharging instead of not charging.

I've been experiencing the same problem with my SGS2's battery and noticed that it is getting bloated. I purchased a new one to prevent severe damage on my mobile phone.
