So I'm still debating the Note 2 or the S4. The size of the Note is great because I read a lot and I like the..... well I just like the size. The S pen is somthing that I think I would use a lot. But I've heard that it gets boring after a month. I understand that the hardware is better in absolutely every respect on the S4. But I still don't know. Are you happy with your Note 2

Honestly my advice would be go to store and check them both out side by side so you can actually see and feel the differences. I personally like the size and the s pen on the Note 2 and wouldn't consider an upgrade until possibly the Note 3. I've had mine for a few months and have yet to get "bored"

Seriously, do you think you won't get "bored" with S4 or One after 2-3 months max? The initial "wow" factor wears off for almost all phones. But for me, it's been actually the opposite, personally. This is the only phone which managed to grow on me.
Rest of the phones, after the "honeymoon period" gets boring too, trust me. But with Note II, you're left with a good screen with more screen real estate and excellent battery life. So even if it gets boring, you'd be left with an excellent, stable device that you can trust as using your daily driver. And we've still had users who switched back to Note 2 after going to HTC One et al for the same, which in itself speaks volume IMO

I find after a month or more of use, that I'm using the pen more and more. I take pics and annotate them all the time now, for personal notes, or to send to others. I use it to take all my job-related notes (I work in IT) and always have them with me, 24/7. Definitely not bored!
My Nexus 7 is suffering from separation anxiety, however.
I use my SPen to take notes in meetings almost everyday. I can't see a reason to ever get another phone without Spen.
I've only had mine for a couple of days but I already know that this phone is going to stick with me for the long haul.
I come from the old school days of the stylus with my first being the original palm Pilot 1000 and the last resistive touchscreen being an Sch-i730
I loved that phone to death even though the call quality and battery life was horrid. When the touchscreen went out on it I died a little inside. Capacitive touch screens took away the enjoyment of a stylus and even third party ones just didn't do it for me. With the note II it brought back the same feeling I had with the i730 that died on me 5 years ago.
Don't underestimate the S-Pen's capabilities, the Wacom technology combined with Samsung's extensive software makes it a very powerful device. The phone is huge and you don't really grasp the size until you see a working one with the screen on. That can swing either way on the pro's and cons list depending on the users personal requirements. for me though sometimes it feels too excessive (phone calls) but mostly I am thankful for it. Overall though I am glad it is so big.
I highly suggest you get the note II first and take it for a test drive and try to use the S-Pen as much as you can. If you don't like it then go exchange it for the S4. The S-Pen is a unique feature only found on the note and best try it now then never at all.
I have not been on these forums in a while (years) because I took an apple cruise. Was there user reset on inactive users or something?
great phone!
Note 2 or 3 ONLY!
The size still bothers me at times. I have smaller hands and will cramp a little if I hold my phone for longer periods of time.
Other than that... no regrets. Watching Dish on it is awesome! Also... other Animes and videos. I don't use the spen too much so I can't comment on that. Overall best android phone that I've had. I am still stock and unrooted and super bloated but it is snappy and it works exactly as I want it to. I've had it for 2 months now.
one of the best phones out their and my personal favorite.
Yes. happy. Hopefully the Note 3 is thinner with less bezel and a bigger screen.

The S-Pen's utility for me is not in writing notes or making drawings. It's in the fine control it offers (pinpoint clicking, etc) and the gestures you can do with it...screenshots, image clipping, and more. And if you buy GMD Spen Control, you can make as many custom gestures as you want.

+1 on this too by the way. I can't explain how much it helps me from those annoying "misclicks" - and even expanding some items with the hover like feature. I use it mostly for typing and mostly browsing. Note taking/drawings is a major plus, but I use it mainly for browsing and typing rather.
I played with my boss's S4 the other day...it's a nice phone and looks a bit higher end than the note 2, but the only real difference you will notice day to day is the size. If you can manage the larger size, the additional screen space (plus the s-pen) make it a pretty easy choice. If you want a smaller device, the S4 is a great phone. Felt really solid, fast, etc. I for one love the bigger screen and could probably never go smaller again.
I've the note 2 since March and I came from the GS3. I've had the note 10.1 since the Summer, & that's What made me go for the note 2. qm So happy I did! And I'm definitely looking forward to hearing what the Specks of the note 3 will be. I wasn't even tempted, When the HTC one or the S4 came out because of the S pen! I can't live without it! I too use it at meetings to take notes and to jot things down quickly! It's great not having to carry pen and paper!

trying to decide between these 2 phones. curious which people think is the better buy right now...i have the note and broke the screen. i love the display, but handling one handed it is sometimes tough, especially reaching the corners...and is it an easier phone to crack because of it's size? other than that i do love the thing though
You said your self the note is easier to break...there s a good chance the nextt note will break again. S3 is more rounded and more manageable to hold.

I wouldn't buy the current Note right now. If rumors are to be believed it's being replaced by a Note II in September. The new version is supposed to be styled like the SGS3, have a bigger display, be narrower, and easier to hold.

What is the note? A bigger screen version of the skyrocket. U will get bored in two weeksof u get the note. Personal experience
Bought sgs3 2 days ago and I'm overall very satisfied with my purchase. However i already started to miss the bigger screen of the Note which i gave to my wife. One thing is for sure-i will get Note 2 in couple of months

Addict. But I can't talk. I miss my note too. Even tho has the same Res screen there's something about it. I gave it too my girlfriend when she went overseas instead of using her iphone and she fell in love. That said I would still pick the s3

Having the note with aokp and the dpi set to 240 really does make me miss all of that screen space.
I'm using my s3 as a daily and my note as a baby tablet. Best of both worlds.

IMO,two straight forward options:
1. If you are in a hurry, just pick the s3 (performance way better than the current note)
2. If you can wait, then go for the note2
(It's performance will surely be on par or better than s3, then it will just be a choice of screen size preference and ergonomic comfort)
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
In comparing the 2, i notice a couple differences that will make a difference to me.
1. No search button and home button is different...i know there is a center button, but i don't like that you have to hard press that, as opposed to the soft press of the note. I use maps a LOT and that search button was perfect for it...i think i would miss those 2 features.
2. The form factor of SIII is very nice, feels nicer in the hand and easier to hit all corners of screen, and just use one handed in general.
3. Note is MUCH bigger screen.
Can't tell performance-wise a huge difference yet but that could change...
still on the fence but leaning towards the note bc of the buttons
Even though both of the phones have big screens I would say S III (for me) is just the right size. Note and Note II would be to big in my opinion unless you have something like a bag to carry them.
after using the note for a few months, the sIII does NOT seem like a big screen at all, in fact i was hoping it would be bigger and that would have made my decision easier. a pinch smaller than the note is PERFECT imo.
Note for me is way better than s3 .....
Bigger screen....
More powerful battery.......
Comes with s-pen.....
And by rooting my gnote I have got all the new features which comes with s3.....
I think this is enough for you to make a decision and pick a right cell....
Or wait for Note 2
Note really rockzzz....

Just curious to see how former S3 owners are enjoying their Note 2. I'm on the fence right now, the size is not a big deal as I feel I can adapt to it pretty quickly. The bigger screen size and multi view options really interest me. What were the big drivers for you to jump from the S3 to the Note 2? How would you compare the experiences?
TIA
I had the s3 and I'd say it would be like comparing a wrx to the st or z06 to the zr1i. Both are awesome but one is just a little bit better. Bigger, faster, and just overall more awesomer lol. I like playing with the stylus, split screen, bigger screen plus I'm a phone whore so I'm always trading.

F'n love it! Battery is incredible (I'd say close to double the screen-on time). Multi window is really cool too, and with root you can get ALL apps loaded in it, where as with stock there were only like 6 apps available in multi window, which made it useless.
I'm actually liking the spen too (writing this post with it). Along with that, I also suggest the flygrip, it makes using this massive phone with one hand not only possible, but convenient and comfortable. It doubles as a kick stand too, which I like to do 180 portrait mode, and it sits firm where you can use the spen and hit menus/home button without it falling over. I actually used it on the S3 until I got my note, and I love it! I switched from T-Mobile to Verizon, so my network is 10 times better now as well.
The S3 is great, and if T Mobile lets me off the hook from my cancellation I'm still going to keep it for an mp3 player etc...but IMO this Note 2 blows it away with just the battery alone...which is crazy because the screen is way bigger AND way brighter. I couldn't even see my s3 if it was a halfway sunny day.
So yeah, you could say I'm a fan

Jump in! I truly loved my sg3... for 30 days I had it..lol. Note 2 came out on day 29 and I dropped by best buy just to see the "Beast" before my return date was up. Took one look and held it.. and that was it. Sg3 was awesome. Fast. Smooth and powerful. Note 2 is just a whole different world. Has completely changed my mobile computing/productivity. For me it was when Mugen made a 6400mah battery for it. That's more power than my galaxy tab 7.7 which is only 5100mah. I like to read books on my tablet which is painful on my small rezound. I just have to figure on which color, I know crazy. I prefer black to grey, but white is selling for a higher price on ebay( now that's crazy).

I have two mint condition G3's with extra batteries, extra backs and cases (including hyperion extended batts etc) that I want to sell but I'm not sure what they're worth??

Its been a rather busy year for me on the phone front. I started the year off with a Thunderbolt, followed up by a Rezound, and then purchased Galaxy S3 in July.
Suffice to say the S3 was the best of the lot. When I got the S3, I thought I had found the promise of Android. Finally the OS had been optimized and I felt confident that I would keep the S3 for at least a year. Then came the Note 2, and a window of opportunity. I had an upgrade that I HAD to use before January (dont ask) and so I sold my S3 on Gazelle for almost 300 and put the order in.
I wont lie, initially and still it feels a little awkward handling the Note 2. Its big, its a lot bigger than the S3. The S3's ergonomics were spot on and like most any well designed phone you tend to forget your holding something. You just use the interface..the body goes away in the interaction. But with the Note 2 I haven't gotten there yet, I am still very aware that I'm working to grasp a device and the interface comes a second later.
There is a slight disconnect because you have to physically accommodate the phone ya know?
That being said there are a number of features in the Note 2 that go a very very long way to making you forgive (and maybe forget) its girth. The screen is just awesome, its the big screen jumbo man TV of the smartphone world. How can you hate that!? If you have any love for tech your drawn to it like moth to a flame. Its stunning. Watching YouTube in bed is like having my 58inch plasma on my chest...MWAHAAH!..I dunno..there's something about that. I dig it.
Also compared to the S3, its faster, the antenna seems to be better, and that has that fancy pen. Outside of that, there isn't much that makes this a giant leap from the S3. For me its really just about the screen and maybe the possibility of having a more capable hacked and overclocked quad core monster after I root it, but that is still a ways off.
Imo its just a bigger s3....I really don't get the big deal of multi view. I have no regrets though. I love it.
Hey guys, so I sold my GS3 for the Droid DNA and I actually do like the phone so far. I wanted to try something different and this screen is definitely beautiful.
With that being said, I am strongly considering exchanging within my 14 days and getting the N2. The battery life will be much better on the N2 and I will get removable storage and battery and will gain the s pen.
I know that nobody can make the decision for me, but please give me your opinions. Good idea?

I actually have both.
I bought the DNA for the screen resolution and Sense, then decided to also try out the Note 2 with the intention of just returning the Note 2 because I figured it would be too big. Well it's bigger but I fell in love with it. I have not put my SIM back in my DNA since I came home. The only reason I keep it is because I like to have a current sense device to use/play with once in awhile.
Once you start using this 5.5in screen, it is REALLY hard to use anything else. The DNA screen feels so small now. What the Note 2 lacks in screen resolution it more than makes up for with deep blacks and popping colors.
The DNA is a sweet device. However, IMO, the Note 2 is just in another league as far as usability and features. Battery life? You cannot even compare the two. The DNA must be recharged at some point but the Note 2 ALWAYS makes it thru the day for me. I have never had an Android device with battery life this long.
Two and a half weeks ago I'd never used a device this big, now I don't really see myself using anything else in the future. Note 3 or bust
On the surface the DNA has the nicer screen, both have 16GB of internal storage but the ext. sd card plus the S-Pen features and multi-window are worth it for me to pass right by the DNA. I will say unless Verizon starts going 32GB as a base model I will have to switch carriers and go international units with 32GB or more.

You pretty much hit the nail on the head! I toyed with the decision to get the DNA too but I could not use it as my daily driver so that makes it a useless device IMO... It does have excellent specs beside the 2 FATAL flaws. I loved the S3 but it could not make it through the day, BUT I had the option of quickly replacing the battery and movin on where as you don't with the DNA. If I am gonna drop this much cash it's gotta have the 2 things that the DNA does not have. Bad decision on Verizon's part to gimp that phone and even a worse decision for HTC to allow them to do that to a flagship device!

I got the DNA on release day and took it back once the note 2 came out. At first I was torn about replacing it but once I used the note 2 for a day I never looked back. The DNA is a find device in itself but battery life was prime for me and the note 2 gets me through an entire day.

i really wish the android community showed its disapproval at vzw crippling the dna by not buying it.
seriously, vzw is finally getting people off unlimited plans, then forces htc to release a device with very limited storage to push the data...... and people actually bought it?

I think you are making a good move, as long as you DONOT mind the 5.5 inch screen. Not everyone can get used to it. It is harder to single-handedly handle it in a busy situation (holding things on the other hand while incoming call rings etc etc)
But I have big hands, I can handle it single handedly pretty easy so I love the phone.
Screen of 1080p is big selling point, but your eyes will get used to it sooner rather than later. 720p aren't bad , of course. it is good enough to watch 720p HD movie for me. Oh, you need a strong battery to watch movies like that ... which Note 2 can take the task.
I must mention, while many people here may disagree or don't appreciate as much, is Samsung's software power. it is just getting incredible. It has many small surprised that will make you feel like you use same buck but banged more features.
Like quick glance, smart alert, S-Pen series of apps, Photo Desk, AND one more tip, VIDEO PLAYING ON TOP OF EVERYTHING...
I have a blog entry about this. Check this out.

This is still a tough decision for me. I haven't had a HTC phone in a while so it's kind of fresh. At the same time the N2 will put me back in a comfort zone coming from the S3.
Let me ask this.... If removable storage and battery wasn't a huge issue, would you still choose the N2 over the DNA?
Thanks guys!

Spen to me seemed kind of gimmicky or something (but it kind of needs one) It'd be good for draw something though right!? Lol. Me want the n2 but I think I'm going to wait for the n3. I'm just hella bored with my rezound.
The more I use both the dna is more comfortable to use if it had ext storage I think many users would of went that direction especially since the screen n processor are superior... but I seem to use my note 2 more it's tough by a note2 and use both lol

I thought I was not using much of it too. But it tends out to be incorrect IN MY CASE. Of course it is different everyone .
After watching over 36 youtube videos made by that guy in Korea about tips of using Galaxy Note 2, I really feel that it has strong features that can really make a difference to the way we work/live. To me, that is the ultimate reason for chasing new technology --- to make my life better (either simpler or more efficient)
Today in a meeting at work, I took the pen out to take notes. about 10 pages over all. It is GREAT. It looked professional with a pen in your hand in meeting environment, very different from some MDs using iPad with fingers to take note,iPad always makes people feel that you are slacking or playing.
It is like Blackberry vs iPhone. Still, I think the former gives most people a more professional feeling. Latter one more hippy/casual/fun.
my 2 cents.
Hell yeah...

Honesty, yes I would. I happen to have had, and continue to have access to both. For me, the feature set on the Note 2 is just too impressive/useful compared to the DNA. There are so many cool things to do with the s-pen and multi-window/pop-up browser that I just couldn't (or at least really wouldn't want to) live without.

OK. So I have the chance to get the note 2 at the discount upgrade price (currently $199 on amazon) I currently have the s3 and I like it. My friend got a note 2 and I didn't get to play with it much aside from holding it for a minute. So I want to ask the folks who have made the same switch If you would do it again or if its not worth it. Just to get a few things out of the way. I have huge hands so that's not an issue. I also like to flash ROMs and have root, how is the devolpment compared to the s3? Thanks for any responses.

I came from the SGSIII and I can tell you that the NoteII is better in every single way. I love the size and the s-pen. Needless to say I absolutely love this phone. Best phone I've ever had and the best Verizon currently has to offer. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask. I've used both extensively. NoteII on a TW custom rom FTW!

That's what I like to hear. On average what kind of battery life are you getting? Currently I get about 12 hours with about 4hours screen on time. That's with 3g lte and WiFi mixed. Mostly browsing the web or on tapa talk. Thanks again

I came from a gnex, so i probably wont be much help but im gonna post anyways. This phone is amazing! Love the screen size, battery life is incredible i use all day on 4g and i cant kill this thing, customizing this thing is great, touchwiz is fun to fool around with not quite sold on it yet but with all the different launchers out there you cant go wrong. The spen is alot of fun to ive never owened a phone with a stylus before so i like it alot. Overall this phone is a beast i would recommend it to anyone....

Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
I came from the s3 and thought it was the best phone I've ever had. I was wrong, the n2 is hand down amazing. The battery life is almost double the s3. I can easily go two days with medium to light use. I would go with the n2 just for that. You won't be sorry.

I think the screen is a little more sensitive. Also I usually get around 7 to 7.5 hours screen time

Battery life is awesome. Haven't completely drained it yet and I'm a heavy user. Screen sensitivity is perfect. I seriously haven't a complaint yet. The only issue I have is the Verizon branding on the home button. Battery, reception, call quality are fantastic. Actually the visibility in sunlight isn't too great but that is seriously the only thing I can think of.
I got the S3 on release day and then the Note II. I think the Note II blows it out of the water in almost every single way. The only place that the S3 was better at was the audio. The music out of the 3.5 mm headphone jack is not as punchy and seems to have a tighter range in general on the Note 2 compared to the S3, in my opinion. It's a minor disappointment that is by no means a deal breaker though, I listen to music on it all the time and you can tweak the equalizer to compensate somewhat.

I had the Galaxy Nexus for like ten days. I couldn't stand the battery life and the bad reception. Honestly, that phone was a big turn off for me when it came to Samsung. It was one of the reasons why I went back to my iPhone 4S.
Now the Note is a beast. It's perfect in every way except for the branding and the flimsyness of the back cover. I have a Seidio Surface case so I don't even notice the back cover anymore.

I went to the N2 because the radio/reception on the S3 was abysmal. Most people in 4g areas had no problem with it, but there are a huge number of complaints by people like myself that had terrible reception in fringe 4g and even solid 3g areas. I was leary about buying the N2 just because of my previous samsung experience. The S3 was litterally great for everything I did, except using it as a phone. In the end I am glad I bought a N2. This thing is deffenitely far superior to the S3. The size does not matter to me at all, you get used to it fast. The reception is easily twice as good. I can now get 4g at my desk at work where I used to get no signal at all on the S3. I love the stylus and started sketching again simply because of the ability. It truly is the best device I have ever had.

yea, there are a number of things wrong in the comparison.
quad core vs dual care to begin with.
then, it states for camera settings:
Has manual iso Yes vs No This allows to manually set the ISO level.
Has manual white balance Yes vs No This allows to manually set the white balance.
Both these statements are wrong. I own both phones and BOTH allow manual ISO and WB settings

Still have my S3. Awesome phone but doesn't hold a candle to the Note 2. Battery easily lasts a full day with heavy use, probably 2+ days with lighter use. 6-7 hours screen on time is typical. The screen is obviously bigger on the Note, but it's also way brighter. No issues seeing the screen even in full daylight. This phone is a beast.
Also check out flygrip.com. The single most valuable accessory I've bought for this phone. I can comfortably and conveniently touch every corner of the screen with one hand, without having to balance the phone, maneuver around, or even really "hold" the phone for that matter. It just hangs from your finger tips. The flygrip also doubles as a kick stand, which I use all the time in landscape if I'm watching videos and reverse portrait if it's sitting on my desk-firmly propped up and I can use my S Pen with it.

So I'm curious. What about your Note 2 keeps your interest in it?
Size, software, hardware (including S-pen), choice of ROMs, etc..
For me its size. I love the size of the phone and the display alone enough for me to love it without considering anything else. But, I will of course.
This is strictly for curiosity and conversation. That's it.

I'd have to say it's also the size. I see every other phone my friends and family use and it always makes me laugh and til this day everyone always compliments it or always say something funny about its size.

It's how awesome porn looks on the screen.
The fact that my contract isn't up with Verizon and I don't have enough money to buy a new phone outright.
Honestly, I'm done with giant phones these days. The moto x will be my next phone when I more to t-mobile.
For me it's the size of the screen, the crisp display, and the performance.
I use my Note 2 more than I use my laptop.
Some friends and family members make fun of its size, but when I'm with them and they want to do something on the internet, they start on their phone then say "let me see your phone".
I don't understand how they can say they love the size of their phone then want to see mine to view the internet.
For the same reason my wife stays with me...
Seriously tho, this device has a great screen, battery life, and performance...Sure the S4 has better hardware specs, but at this point in time better hardware offers diminishing returns at best. The Note 3 will have to be a major imorovement before I consider upgrading or else I may hold off until the Note 4...thats right I said it.
The size is definitely the main attraction, but I also love the S-Pen and the battery life. I switched from the S3 to the Note 2, and now whenever I try to use the S3, it feels so damn tiny in comparison.
For me, it's because most of my friends with S3/S4's don't even know about the Note 2, so when they ask me what kind of phone I have I say the S4. Then I act really surprised when my phone is bigger than theirs and I tell them they must have gotten the mini.

ROFL....too funny!!
For me it's the screen size and the boat load of ROM choices to give me a different phone weekly, or daily if I choose.
I like the size but I wish it was the size of the note. I think I like it because its got the most functionality of any phone I've ever seen.
There's nothing you can't do with this thing.
I like to keep a smart dock plugged into my entertainment center. Then setting across the room I'll control it with my ps3 controller.
calling this a phone is kinda like calling your home computer an email checker. literally these are little computers that also text and make phone calls. I have hade a few phones I've been missing with phones since the first razor cam out. I've just never seen anything this versatile before.
Size & quality of the display is nice for my aging eyes and fat fingers.
Battery capacity...all day easily.
Ability to take an SD card for additional memory.
Android customizability (sp?)
All these make this phone more attractive to me than most of the current crop of similar size.

Most likely people who shouldn't have an S4 in the first place then.
I have an S4, and my mom has the Note 2, but i frequently do 1 handed typing, and on the note its just a litle bit big for 1 hand to accurately type. I know the Note has the 1 handed option, but i'm not a big fan of that layout, and the 5 inch display on the S4 is perfect for me. I also like the colours and crispness more than on the note 2, and obviously the stronger hardware. I find even when i was doing work on my moms phone, i never really found any practical uses for the S-Pen that i would even consider it useful for me. It's all just personal preference though, but i laugh that i used to think the iPhone 4 was the perfect phone back in the day.
Its a very nice device though, and its nice to have the slightly larger screen for videos and games, but for me 5 inches is the sweet spot for the ultimate balance between functionality and ease of use.

I think the S4 is definitely the best size, but first thing I look at when getting a phone is the development for it, because we passed the point where hardware can make a difference in the performance of this relatively light OS (Android compared to Windows or Mac), so really the most powerful phone is now the one with the most capable software available for it. I wish my phone was the S4 size, but I don't think I can even use a ROM that doesn't haven't floating multiwindows at this point. I run every app in a window now.

I'm pretty sure the floating multiwindow features will eventually come to the S4, that is Multitasking to the max, but there are still some alternatives and you can get a close to similar experience on the S4. And things like Nottach etc, bring the other functionalities such as the horizontal split messenger/contacts and all the other goodies that stock S4 users miss out on.

gonna have copy you on this one.. have many friends that have finally switched from an iphone and they have S3 or S4
My wife has the S4 and it does have alot of features and extra sensors etc... that are cool
but with my note 2 i dont need a charger at work or in the car anymore. I Sometimes i have to charge it when i go to sleep or every other day depending on how heavy i use it..
S4 pockets alot nicer but I dont wear girl jeans "cough" skinny jeans so the note 2 fits perfectly..
I dont use the pen as heavily as i thought i was going to but the times i have needed it, it has save me a headache and time which saves me money ..
playing games on it watching videos is alot better and easier on the eyes
Also im not worried about if i have to many things open at the same time it will slow down the phone..
Mult window is a big HELP as well.
