Formers S3 owners... - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

Just curious to see how former S3 owners are enjoying their Note 2. I'm on the fence right now, the size is not a big deal as I feel I can adapt to it pretty quickly. The bigger screen size and multi view options really interest me. What were the big drivers for you to jump from the S3 to the Note 2? How would you compare the experiences?
TIA

I had the s3 and I'd say it would be like comparing a wrx to the st or z06 to the zr1i. Both are awesome but one is just a little bit better. Bigger, faster, and just overall more awesomer lol. I like playing with the stylus, split screen, bigger screen plus I'm a phone whore so I'm always trading.

Me and the wife traded our GS3s for Note 2s... Love them

F'n love it! Battery is incredible (I'd say close to double the screen-on time). Multi window is really cool too, and with root you can get ALL apps loaded in it, where as with stock there were only like 6 apps available in multi window, which made it useless.
I'm actually liking the spen too (writing this post with it). Along with that, I also suggest the flygrip, it makes using this massive phone with one hand not only possible, but convenient and comfortable. It doubles as a kick stand too, which I like to do 180 portrait mode, and it sits firm where you can use the spen and hit menus/home button without it falling over. I actually used it on the S3 until I got my note, and I love it! I switched from T-Mobile to Verizon, so my network is 10 times better now as well.
The S3 is great, and if T Mobile lets me off the hook from my cancellation I'm still going to keep it for an mp3 player etc...but IMO this Note 2 blows it away with just the battery alone...which is crazy because the screen is way bigger AND way brighter. I couldn't even see my s3 if it was a halfway sunny day.
So yeah, you could say I'm a fan

Bigger screen. Faster. Better battery. S pen. Just awesome zero regrets taking my s3 back. Plus I had the "blue" one but the longer I had it the more it looked purple. If size is not a concern, get off the fence and get this bad boy.

I agree with everyone else, it doesnt seem like much of a step up but i assure you it most definitely is, and was well worth the wait!

Thanks for the feedback everyone, the battery life factor is something I forgot about it. Looks like I'm jumping the fence!

It is so much better! I still have my S3 so I can swap the SIM card and use whichever I chose, but I don't thing I will be using S3 very often. I may just use S3 like an iPod on Wi-Fi

Jump in! I truly loved my sg3... for 30 days I had it..lol. Note 2 came out on day 29 and I dropped by best buy just to see the "Beast" before my return date was up. Took one look and held it.. and that was it. Sg3 was awesome. Fast. Smooth and powerful. Note 2 is just a whole different world. Has completely changed my mobile computing/productivity. Had Droid X and tbolt (sigh) before sg3 so I was shockingly happy with it. But the Note 2 is literally unreal. Good luck and have fun!

Better battery life, brighter screen, 3g radio and signal is much improved(no data drops), gps locks faster, quad core...nuff said!

Wife and I bought s3 from craigslist and had them for 3 weeks then I got an upgrade from a friend of mine who purchased the note 2 . I love the gs3 on verizon but the note 2 is just like others have said, better battery and slightly faster. The gs3 is still a beast and ive recommended most of my friends and family to get the gs3. My wife is slightly jealous so I will probably end up giving her mine for a bit while I sell her gs3 to buy another note 2 full price.

For me it was when Mugen made a 6400mah battery for it. That's more power than my galaxy tab 7.7 which is only 5100mah. I like to read books on my tablet which is painful on my small rezound. I just have to figure on which color, I know crazy. I prefer black to grey, but white is selling for a higher price on ebay( now that's crazy).

I'm curious, what it a mint condition G3 going for on craigs list right now??
I have two mint condition G3's with extra batteries, extra backs and cases (including hyperion extended batts etc) that I want to sell but I'm not sure what they're worth??

I just sold mine last Friday on CL for $350. Probably could have got more but wanted a quick sale. Put it up Thursday evening after getting my N2 , gone Friday.

Its been a rather busy year for me on the phone front. I started the year off with a Thunderbolt, followed up by a Rezound, and then purchased Galaxy S3 in July.
Suffice to say the S3 was the best of the lot. When I got the S3, I thought I had found the promise of Android. Finally the OS had been optimized and I felt confident that I would keep the S3 for at least a year. Then came the Note 2, and a window of opportunity. I had an upgrade that I HAD to use before January (dont ask) and so I sold my S3 on Gazelle for almost 300 and put the order in.
I wont lie, initially and still it feels a little awkward handling the Note 2. Its big, its a lot bigger than the S3. The S3's ergonomics were spot on and like most any well designed phone you tend to forget your holding something. You just use the interface..the body goes away in the interaction. But with the Note 2 I haven't gotten there yet, I am still very aware that I'm working to grasp a device and the interface comes a second later.
There is a slight disconnect because you have to physically accommodate the phone ya know?
That being said there are a number of features in the Note 2 that go a very very long way to making you forgive (and maybe forget) its girth. The screen is just awesome, its the big screen jumbo man TV of the smartphone world. How can you hate that!? If you have any love for tech your drawn to it like moth to a flame. Its stunning. Watching YouTube in bed is like having my 58inch plasma on my chest...MWAHAAH!..I dunno..there's something about that. I dig it.
Also compared to the S3, its faster, the antenna seems to be better, and that has that fancy pen. Outside of that, there isn't much that makes this a giant leap from the S3. For me its really just about the screen and maybe the possibility of having a more capable hacked and overclocked quad core monster after I root it, but that is still a ways off.

Imo its just a bigger s3....I really don't get the big deal of multi view. I have no regrets though. I love it.

Holding a Samsung S2 and feel like holding a fake phone

After using the Note for a week. I took out my ATT 4.3" Galaxy S2 (used for 3 months before the Note) and BAMMMM, "what is this phone? Is it my phone before? I remembered it was big, Is it shrink? Am i holding a a toy phone? Tons of question just jump out. I seriously was shock for 5 seconds and i can believe in my eyes.
Just would like to share my thought. I was commit myself to go with Samsung S3->S4.... But now i think i have a new buddy: the Note
Ps: I got a small hand but this Note was amazing and has phone and tablet feature. I'm happy with my purchase.
I had the 4S for a month when it came out. now whenever I hold a friends it legit feels like a toy. I'm like how did I EVER use this small ass screen haha so I know where your coming from!
My skyrocket looks tiny now to me....lol
Same here. Went from the Atrix. Now when I hold the Atrix or even my classic IPod, I feel like I am holding a toothpick.

After playing with a Note for about 15 minutes, my Infuse now seems so small and svelte. Playing with my buddy's iPhone 4 is ridiculous. I thought that the Infuse was awesome, and didn't think that any manufacturer would go much larger for a screen, so I figured that the Infuse's 4.5" screen was the biggest I was going to get, and I was only hoping for the 4.65" screen of the Galaxy Nexus to be on my next phone. Little did I know, the Note was on it's way, and its 5.3" screen is perfect for my hands, as I can reach all corners of the device one handed, although any bigger and it would start being a stretch. I feel like the Note was custom tailored to my hands, and I know that once I have it, it will be impossible to go any smaller for a device. My infuse just feels cramped now, and the screen seems so pixelated. Samsung already had my complete loyalty due to their Super AMOLED screens, and now that the Note is here, they will need to continue it as a line of devices in the future for me to ever be happy again with mobile devices. I really hope the Note turns into a parallel line to the Galaxy S series for Samsung, as the Galaxy S series is great, just not large enough anymore nw that the Note is out. I will be a Note user for life so long as they keep putting out new versions with the same size form factor.
I think my gn is huge already .

My girlfriend's SkyRocket seems small now. The iphone is like a toy.

Whether it's possible or not is ultimately up to you. You have 30 days to give it a trial from your purchase date, I suggest using your Note for most of that. I think that you will find that you can get used to it. You definitely won't have the one-handed ability that you find in your Cappy, but I think that the added utility and beastly specs will overtake that one advantage that the Cappy has.
Also, think abut it this way, and try using your phone accordingly:
When is a time where you truly need to use your device with one hand? Yes, it is convenient, but is it ever really a necessity? That text or email or phone call can wait a couple minutes until you have your hands free. Just use your phone when you have the time and ability to do so.
I see so many people trapped in their phones, trying to multitask, and failing horribly. We must remember that there is a world around us, and that if we can't devote full attention to the phone, you probably don't need to use it. Two hands may be necessary at times for this phone, so simply don't use it unless you have both hands, and enjoy the world around you. =]
Unfortunately, not everybody is blessed with hands as big as mine, where they can wield this weapon one-handed. =/
I find that I can hold this comfortably in one hand. Then use my other hand for Swyping. my inspire is definitely to small now. (I'm a girl with regular sized hands. Hold it and the bottom, buy the top 40% or so above my grip)

um, whats a cappy?
and i was like the above samsung galaxy s2 user, i had the sprint version, so screen was even bigger (4.52"). I was content with that and thought manufacturers wouldnt go higher than that. The galaxy nexus did, but only by a lil bit. But the note takes the cake. 4.5" is really the biggest non-note phone out,but seems realllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllly small now, after only a week!!
I was just holding my skyrocket and omfg it felt so effing smal lol and when i first got it i was like this phones massive the note has changed me foreverl
It took me less then a day to not only get use to the size but realize that i will not be going to a smaller phone.
Bring on the Note 2!!

i finally upgraded from my aria after spending around a month debating between the note or the nexus.
after around 3 hours i was completely used to the size of the note and i dont even notice it anymore except in the few cases where i may be unbalanced in one handed use.
I came from the Inspire too, it's now in my closet in case I "need" a backup phone. The Note truly fills the void between needing a phone and a tablet.

Can I get an honest opinion....

I know this is the note forum and opinions will be biased. But I'm hoping we can be adults here...tomorrow is my last day that I can return my note to BB under their 30 day policy. I love this phone and all but it can definitely use a little more umph! Run MW3 on a non OC'd kernel then on DaG's kernel at 1.8 and you will know what I'm talking about. So the qustion is...how many of you would give this phone back and get the S3 on saturday given the option?

1. I would keep the note, I love the large screen.
2. if i was to go back to the smaller screen: galaxy nexus > sg3 (i hate touchwiz and samsung/carrier software/upgrade cycle).
I hear that one x is pretty damn sick. Some people don't like the restriction of insternal sd only. But honestly all my music and photos and videos are on the cloud anyway...and the lack of removal battery? No biggie. I'm always near a charger...always. this thing is interesting as is the s3. Note is tight but me being someone who switches phones a lot, it might be time.

This. I do not think I would be hugely impressed if I traded this in for the SGSIII. The S4 processor is the only real improvement, and unless it is night and day better than the Note, I'd just miss having the Note screen size and stylus.
On a different note (<--ha), I recommended buying phones from Costco. Free accessories and a 90 day exchange period with no restocking fees. Plus their prices are usually cheaper anyway.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
I have also recently had to make the same decision as I too buy my phones through BB but I think it comes down to personal necessity.
I am going to college in the fall so I needed something I could easily take notes on and jot down little ideas and such like that and I have also gotten too used to the phone size. Every time I even look at another phone it just seems microscopic. (as you get used to the big screen, sure you can get used to the small screen too)
If you are going to be using mainly for personal - GS3
If you are interested in mainly business or professional use, I would say the Note. (Plus, it looks more professional even when youre just texting ^.^)

Do you know if they have their own insurance policy. for 6.99 a month i get unlimited new/refurbished phones for any reason outside of lost or stolen (rooted, bricked, destroyed, water, hulk attacks). One time, I gave it back to them as I bricked it and they upgraded my phone for free. As a constant flasher (haha), I do not know if I would be able to give that up just yet.
Like others, I really like having the latest phone but it wasnt a big deal for a few years because for some reason I was able to get yearly upgrades, so even if I had a new phone for a few months and a better one came out I knew I could upgrade a few months from than when an even better phone would be out. When I picked up my infuse last year is when my yearly upgrade disapeared, I decided to open a second line which will give me back yearly upgrades, the trade off is a slightly higher bill...I think its 25 bucks more per month. I got the note in march and I can upgrade my other line in august.

Vive la Note!
I would keep the Note there is not that much of a big improvment on the SG3 to make up for the loss of the big display and spen. All the software improvements like the Svoice and Smart stay will be ported over by our Devs the only thing that you can't get is the better S4 processor or exynos. SO do you go with smaller screen, and no spen or better processor? I'll stick with the Note.
I've had my note for about two weeks and loved it the first week (rooted it right away). After going back and forth between this, my old nexus s, and my work phone(evo design) I've decided its too big and uncomfortable to hold. I love being able to type cleanly and the screen real estate, but its just too much for me.
I'm going to return it next week for a galaxy s3 pre order. I flashed to stock and unrooted resetting the flash counter and everything. Its not too hard if you decide to do it and I've never used adb before. If I didn't flash a different from the beginning, this thing would have been returned within a couple days. I've been using stock for a few days now and its a world of difference.
EDIT: I also didn't find any use for the S-pen. I tried to like it my first week, but using my fingers is easier for everything and I didn't find the snote app practical for much of anything. I know some people find great uses for this thing, but some reviews are right, you'll never know until you try

I'd keep the Note. For one simple thing, it is a Far the best phone out there with a big if. and that is IF you know what you want to use it for.
Simple example: sMemo not pratical? that is what i thought at first. until i created 2 to 3 empty notes as widgets on my homescreen just waiting to be written on and expanded in size for quick look.
Galaxy S3 to me is no upgrade, as a matter of fact if anything its just the software really. I think that Galaxy Note got a bad rap because of Ginger Bread, performance on that sucked. ICS in the other hand is awesome. I do Owned MW3 and performance on that sucked on the Note, and that is because of software optimization. Blame Android fragmentation for that

MW3 on saurom OC'd to 1.78 plays extremely fluidly...you take away the oc on ics and it is horrible to play.
Considering ill have this phone for the next two years....I'm just a little worried that the device has to be stretched to its limits NOW as soon as I bought it to perform "acceptably"...FYI I don't think ANY current unofficial ICS rom out now is "acceptable".

Getting the s3 isn't a bad option. Better than getting an One X. If I were to get a phone now, it would be the N7000 or the s3. BUT, I still love my G Note on UCLE2 ICS.
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke
-iOS = inspiring Outdated Software
Stick with the note....Its a outstanding phone, with a beautiful large screen.. And development is finally taking off on this phone is only going to get better through time too. You will regret having such a smaller screen. Plus I know the processer is a little faster on the other phone but you won't ever tell the difference that much, plus we already have a overclocked gingerbread kernel.. and ics is right around the corner and soon we will have that kernel overclocked as well.....stick it out you won't regret it!
I just love the note. Its has literally replaced my ipad and laptop as well. Shoot it has has replaced my tv as well.....

Plus you don't technically have to be a Costco member to order from their online store
I have had a phone with the S4 processor (HTC One S), and the performance is marginally better. For me the Note does everything I want and then some. With Nova Prime there is 0 lag or anything else. The screen is the best I have seen, even beating the One X in my honest opinion. I will try a GS3 and see if maybe I will score one locally when they hit craigslist, but just from looks alone....it looks like a huge vibrant, which I was not a huge fan of. The software is already being ported from the GS3 to our device, our FFC is better, and our design seems more high end.
Getting S3 is nice idea.. but If you want to do more than what you can do with a smartphone.. then definitely go for NOTE. It is the most awesome phone on the earth.
Buying S3 from ATT, Verizon and T-Mo is not much of an upgrade.. this S3 is Dual core (not quad as of International version)
I am into the same boat, thinking of getting the S3. The reason I am thinking about it is battery life really. I am disappointed that my 2500 mah battery with push Exchange email is down to 50% at the end of a 9 hour work day. My Captivate used to get to 60-65% instead.
If the S3 has better battery life then I will jump ship. Until them I am still trying to find ways to increase it. I have used hacked rooms as well as ICS its all the same.
I won't lie though, it is going to be tough to leave because the Note will always have these 2 things for it.
BIGGEST SCREEN
S-pen built in.

I was set on the Droid DNA. Even had a work around DNA memory and battery to accommodate the DNA. After stopping by verizon, i have jump ship to Note 2.
Comparing My GS3 with DNA
Holding both phone, DNA feel less solid and cheap for some reason. From all the vids and pictures, the phone look amazing.
1080p didnt wow me enough, my phone looks brighter.
Not a Fan of Sense 4+, HTC have nothin over samsung motions. I am so use to swipe to call and text.
I do like the back soft touch tho. Also like the red grills. The phone is too long to have a power button on top.
Glad i didnt preorder the DNA, would have been disappointed. Note 2 here i come!
Sense just ruins it. If it was running pure android, it would be amazing.

Agree with you there. GS4 more worth the wait than to get the Droid DNA now. Either get Galaxy Note 2 now or get Galaxy S4 later.
I played with one as well and I was not impressed. I thought the jump to 1080p would be similar to 720p like last year but I was mistaken. And after you get past the screen it just felt normal; I have no desire to use it again. But with the Note 2 I've used it 5 times at various locations while I wait for my pre-order to ship. I'm actually eager to play with it again. I finally figured out how to use multi-view and I can't wait until that feature is fully opened to all apps.
All said I just ordered a 64gig micro SD card to seal my purchase. Just one more week!
I felt that the display contrast, black levels, and color saturation are disappointing on the DNA. Now I am debating the note 2 vs waiting on GS4.

I have the confidence that the Note 2 will keep me entertained when the S4 comes out. Plus I don't see the S4 coming out over 5 inches and it will not have the S-Pen. The one positive is that we should have a sneak peak at the Note 3 when the S4 is released if Samsung follows the same formula.
I had the US Cellular version of the Note 2 for a week, and I've had my DNA since yesterday. So far this is what I've noticed:
Build quality seems superior on the DNA. The rounded glass screen, soft touch plastic, aluminum red grilles, compared to the slippery and cheaper looking plastic of the Note 2.
The display was a huge selling point, and while I agree the resolution is amazing in the sense that I can not see any pixelation, it doesn't seem as vibrant or bright as the Note 2. I wouldn't consider the screens to be a deciding factor.
The battery life is pretty horrible on the DNA. With the Note 2 and my previous Thunderbolt w/ extended battery, I only charged my phone at night and went unplugged from 7AM to 11PM with anywhere from 40-60% battery left with light/moderate use. With the DNA, I went 6 hours with moderate use before the battery dipped down to 30%. If you get the DNA, you WILL need to keep the phone tethered to a charger. I'll have to keep it plugged in at work, and when I get home from work.
Storage isn't a huge issue for me as I don't use close to the 16GB capacity, but it's always nice having more memory, especially expandable memory.
Signal strength. I can't really compare the two as the Note 2 was on US Cellular, but I can say that the DNA gets excellent signal strength, both on Verizon and on WiFi. I get WiFi signal in places where my Thunderbolt did not, and so far coverage with Verizon seems to be a tad better than the Thunderbolt. As a comparison, my Thunderbolt consistently gets better signal strength than my friends GS3 on Verizon.
The speaker in the DNA is amazing, I had it turned up all the way and there was no distortion at all. I couldn't believe how loud and clear it was!
Ergonomics. The DNA is awesome in this area, with the rounded glass edges, curved back, and soft touch back this phone feels AWESOME in the hand. Unlike the Note 2, it doesn't feel like it's going to slip and fall. It's also usable with one hand, unlike the Note 2 which you can only use a portion of the screen when holding it in one hand.
I also noticed that the Note 2 is slightly too wide to fit in most cup holders in cars, while the DNA fits in perfectly.
Hmm I thought it looked slick - much more than the Note 2 which really isn't slick looking when held to your head lol. Still going with the Note 2. I can't easily reach the status bar and the buttons while using it one handed (without changing grip and feeling awkward) - but I like the extra screen space and always use my Incredible held landscape 2 handed anyways.
I definitely can't say it wouldn't be smart to buy the DNA though. I personally would over the GS3 - mostly because of its much better processor.

I thought it was pretty cool, but honestly maybe too thin. I like my phone to be small, but not like paper thin... Even holding it attached to the display it felt like it might fall out of my hand at any time. That along with a tiny battery and no SD card slot will keep me away. I will say that the display is quite beautiful though.
I picked up the DNA thinking I could test it and if I don't like it I could always return it and hopefully by then the Note 2 would be out. But right now I'm not sure if I want to return it. I really do like this phone a lot, but (and I can't believe I'm saying this) I do miss Touchwiz. Samsung has really been doing some great things with it. I also like the idea of the S-Pen a lot.
I do have the Note 10.1 but I still think I may want that same experience in my pocket. But the DNA really is nice so I'm not sure. I do hate that damn power button on the top though. . .

Since you already have a Note 10.1 I don't think I would have 2 Note devices. My plan was to get the DNA and keep my Nexus 7 or get the Note 2 and sell my Nexus 7. After playing with the DNA it felt like another phone, nothing special. After playing with the Note 2 I was sold. There is no doubt in my mind that the Note 2 will last until the Note 3 comes out. I can't say the same about the DNA when the S4 comes out with 1080p display, Sd card clot and removable battery.

The Exynos 5 is faster (at least quad vs quad) but there's no way that the DNA is going to be slow or unusable in less than a year. People who don't need much storage will be fine.

Imo its to the point where upgrading is not a huge gain anymore. None of these new phones are a "huge" upgrade over the s3. Im still debating on getting the note2, this will probably be my last upgrade for awhile. All these little gimmick add-ons are just wooing folks into getting the latest and greatest every 6mo. Its beginning to look like a waste of money imo. I honestly do not think the dna comes close to being a worthy 200 upgrade over my s3 and the same goes for the note2 @ 300. The **** is getting rediculous! The s3 is powerful enough to handle udates for years to come, but its already been superceeded by devices that are not much better imo. Quad core is not going to be a huge upgrade...ram is much more important along with gpu. 4.8" screen is plenty big...end rant.

I don't think it's worth upgrading every 6 months (I never did), but if you have an available upgrade, the DNA's gpu is twice as fast as the S3. Not really being utilized yet, but within 2 years it very well could be. RAM actually doesn't matter that much since programs tend to be small and compact. 2GB is plenty and having a quad core means you can play a game with no background task like facebook getting in the way. Our phones easily have much more than 4 threads going on at once.

Anyone else COMPLETELY spoiled by Notes screen size?

Thought of going with a Nexus 4...my friend got one today...4.7 inches feels SO DAMN SMALL!
I have seriously been spoiled here...anyone else this way too? Kind of limits my phone options a little bit...even the GNote 2 feels smaller (due to narrower screen).
Hmmm...
Yep! My wife has my Ion now (4.6") and I hold it and it feels TINY. iphone 5 feels like a kiddie toy! This feels normal to me and everyone else says its huge lol

Yeah I've been completely spoiled since it released. Couldn't go back down in size for anything no matter the specs. I'm likely going to stick it out with the i717 until note 3 or something else next year comes. My wife has a galaxy s3 which feels nice actually, but I just really enjoy the real estate far to much.

Yeah, I don't think I'll ever be able to go back to anything smaller. Everything just feels so small compared to my Note...
There is no way I could go back to a phone any smaller than the Note! My wife has an iPhone 4s and its just so small! Couldn't do it. I got rid of my 7" tablet because I found myself using the Note for everything I used to use the tablet for.

I'm also going to wait it out for the note3. I wasn't even tempted to buy the nexus 4 since the screen is smaller than the note. Maybe it will be worth the wait and the note3 will have 1 week battery life. :victory:
Yep, when I bought my Note I was fully aware the Note 2 was just a few months away. But when I learned the Note 2 was losing the slightly thicker screen for a standard wide-screen form factor, with no bump in resolution or camera, I decided not to wait.

I did the same with my tablet. I had a Playbook (which really is a killer tablet, best I've ever used) but after owning the Note I realized I hadn't touched my tablet in a couple weeks. Had no desire to really. Sold it!
I tell people if you are in the market for a new phone and tablet, just get a Note! It really is a all around replacement.

This is my problem with the Note 2...played with one for the first time the other day at the Verizon store and even though the screen is technically larger it sure as hell didn't feel like it. That's the problem with the Note 1...not only has the size spoiled me, but the 16:10 aspect ratio has spoiled me too. Which sucks because now I'm REALLY limited in my phone choices (uhh...one choice...)!

Same here. Even holding a SIII felt so small...and its, what, 4.7 inches?! Don't even get me started on the iPhone 4/5...they feel like tiny MP3 players or something. Couldn't even use one if it was given to me!
I'm spoiled. Won't mind owning a Note 2. I don't like the new design really. Note 3 for me though. I think Huawei is coming out with a 6.1 inch Note competitor.
BlackStar XI Samsung Galaxy Note I717
I feel spoiled in general by Samsung, as their AMOLED screens can't be topped. Yeah, the Note has, IMO, the best screen on a phone to date, but I still appreciate my secondary phone, a Galaxy Nexus, and also at times my old Infuse and Captivate that are sitting in a drawer back home.
Though I do wish Samsung had kept the 16:10 aspect ratio, the Note 2 is nothing to scoff at. If I had the funds available to buy one, I would in a heartbeat. I'm happy with my current Note though, so it will definitely be the Note 3 for me. Let's hope they go at least 5.5" 1080p, if not up to 6". What would be really sweet would be to see them put a matte finish on the glass that doesn't distort the resolution... it's possible, but not probable. I'd also like to see them bring back a metal back like on the Captivate... Samsung got design right with that one. At the very least, a textured back again like the Nexus or on my Note's flip cover. Enough of the glossy plastic Samsung.

Funny how its bigger but has less square inch space. They changed the aspect ratio of the screen by stretching it out skinny. I think the screen on the 1 is better personally.
I am spoiled but I'd still like to trade my note for a galaxy nexus.
I plan on finding out about the Note 2 sometime in February.

I too came from a Note 2 and I don't regret it at all. The Note 2 is a great phone, but I could never get used to the size. It's a bit of a shock coming back to a smaller screen, but the overall experience is a bit better I think.

Just make sure you know that it doesn't have a removable battery or a microSD slot.
Haha, jk,
Note advantages are the pen, user replaceable battery, expandable memory card and in every other case the HTC ONE wins.

Do you have anything to comment between the two?
I have a Note 2 and tested the One at a store. I still prefer the Note. I read a lot of news articles and found the Note to contain a tad more information on the screen than the One, despite the lower resolution. Also the fonts are large and easier to read. However the fonts on the One are a tad sharper. The Note also has useful S-Pen features for note taking while on the phone.
Not sure if the One has multi-window features and airview, but I've found those to be useful.
As for the aluminum case on the One, it's nice. But I use cases, and whichever phone is in the case, it'll feel the same. Therefore, the aluminum case advantage gets negated.
I see the S4 to be better than the Note 2, being able to fit the same amount of content on the screen, but in a smaller, easier to handle package. However, given I'm barely through my contract, it's not worth it to pay up for the S4.
For my daily use, I'm not swayed to switch to the One.
I've switched to an HTC One from a Note 2 but the guy who was going to by my Note 2 bailed on me so I currently have both. I've come back temporarily to the Note 2 but I really can't decide which is best.
The feel of the One is so awesone I absolutely will not put a case on it....with the Note 2 it's a must.
The battery life on the Note 2 is amazing but only mediocre on the One.
I have 20/10 vision but I honestly can't tell a difference in screens other than the obvious size.....and at that, can't decide which I prefer.
The sound on the One blows away the Note's.
The feature bloat on the Note 2 is worse than the One but the carrier bloat on the One is worse than the Note's since I haven't rooted and rom'd it yet.
I think Sense looks much better than TouchWiz but I'm using Nova Launcher on the Note 2 to emulate the look of the One.
I absolutely love and miss multi-window and the pop up browser from my Note 2 and I can't find replacements to use on the One.
The faults everyone mentions about the One (non removable battery and no micro sd slot) are really not a big deal to me and the faults everyone mentions about the Note 2 (plastic build and ugly interface) I've remedied with a case and Nova Launcher.
All in all, I'm pretty much on the fence about which I prefer so I just listed both on CL and will keep whichever one doesn't sell.

I have 15/20 vision and I can't tell a difference honestly. Post proper calibration that is, before that it looked just okay-ish and obviously would look much inferior with it's terrible calibration. The only place I can tell somewhat of a difference is browsing, it's a bit less sharper - but the size makes up for it IMO.
But yeah, depends on your utility really.

Less awkardy/bulky isn't necessarily a con, people buy it for the size, usually. And some prefer some bulk to the device. Rest, I agree.
Never realized Note II was more expensive though, wow. Thanks for that info! :good:

No case. The One is just too amazing to cover up. A risk? Yes. I feel it's worth it.
As an aside, my wife has a One X that also has excellent build quality. She has dropped it, carries it loose in her purse, and is all around not too careful with it and it still looks great. My Note 2 has been in a case since the day I bought it.
P.S. Back on the One for a bit and I remembered a few of things:
It feels much more premium in hand compared to the Note 2.
It gets warm during use.
Not all apps are optimized so you get the menu button taking up a lot of screen space on the bottom.

The One is really more expensive than the Note 2, you can find the Note 2 on CG for 400 if you are lucky but usually around 450. The One actually sells for what T-Mobile sells it on places like CG and Ebay. So yeah, Note 2 has a higher MSRP but in reality, less expensive, it is an older phone so...
I can confirm this as I had both listed and got many more inquiries for the One. Probably because it's not widely available yet.

I recently just got a N2 a couple months ago and tried to hold out for either the One or S4, but always wanted a bigger screen for entertainment purposes. Once you get used to the size, it's like anything else, however feel spoiled now and don't think I can go smaller now.
Went to test out the One and s4 a week or so ago and if I liked one, put up the n2 on Cl and the like, but neither one could sway me, mostly due to the screen real estate and awesome battery life.
Also for some no sd slot or non removable battery can be fine for them, but is another deal breaker for me. It's so convenient to swap batteries and or get a bigger extended battery and never have to be plugged in. It's so nice as every device I have had that was set up like that I would have to charge in the middle of the day. Hated that!
Also, I can't hardly tell the difference between any of the screens in the One, s4 or n2. Yeah colors are more saturated on Samsung due to touch wiz and Sense it's more natural. Besides that hardly a difference besides maybe more sharpness on the One.
All the phones were blazing fast. Didn't notice any hiccups on any of them.
Drives me nuts you lose screen real estate on the One....
Also, I would have a case on any phone I get, so negates the awesome looking One.
So with that and not really wanting to go smaller in the s4, I will wait to see what the n3 has in store and I know now I am completely content with the N2! It's my favorite Android to date, and had a lot of them.
Not saying the One isn't an awesome device, just not practical for my instance.

I'm sure you know this but the physical size of the screen does not equal more real estate. 1920 x 1080 simply put displays more content, albiet on a smaller physical canvas. 800 x 600 on a 17" CRT looks neat, but a 14" 1600 x 900 is superior, and so on.
I cannot go back (sold Note 2 and selling N4 for the One). Dat skreen and sound.
