Tibu file(s) transfer - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

Good morning all youz. I am receiving my Gnote2 (verizon) today from swappa. OK, it is rooted and unlocked. It has Keen put back to stock but still rooted and unlocked. Couple of different things. I thought about taken Tibu files I have on my gnex save them on laptop and then transfer it to gnote. Is that 'correct thinking'?
Also, since it is on stock and I have been reading in all the forums about NOT taking the OTA. I am a crackflasher so I get that the roms have the ota in them. So what is the best rom 'in someones opinion's (winkwink)out there. I definitely need wifi wireless hotspot (not detected) so I can use my tablet anywhere.
Thanks.

From what I understand you can take the folders from Tibu and move them to a new phone, but I dont know if everything will work. Its always best to just download all the apps, from the Play Store or whatever other app stores you use, in my opinion. Some apps may not work and may cause issues on your rom, ultimately its your choice though. If you have problems you could go back to a nandroid and then download the apps from the app market.
As for good roms.... Well that depends on if you want to stay on TW, for the S-pen and various other features, or if you want AOSP.
If you want TW I would suggest CleanRom ACE or Beans, CR is always updated to the latest update with a crapload of features packed in and has an Aroma installer so you can choose exactly what apps and mods you want. Beans is a AOSP themed TW rom with a crapload of stuff packed in too and has a bunch of mods that you can flash after the rom. I prefer Scotts CleanRom ACE but it is really up to you as to whether you would have the AOSP theme or go with the way stock TW looks.
As for AOSP I would suggest Vanilla Rootbox or ParanoidAndroid. Those are my 2 favorites and the list of new stuff on them is huge so I am not going to type that out. The downside with AOSP is you lose the special S-pen features and the special apps like S-note. You can add the majority of S-pen features back to AOSP with an app name GMD Spen Control from the Play store, its a little pricey but is most definitely worth it because it even adds new S-pen features to TW.

touchwiz apps

I bought my father the note (he had the s2 before) a fee weeks ago. I had installed aokp on his s2 before but when now, I installed black star which has all the stock touch wiz features that me and my dad remember from when we first got our phones. I want him to run the aokp jb ROM but he loves that ROM too much (but its too laggy)
I was able to install one of those touchwiz themes... but that's not what I'm looking for I'm looking for the specific apps especially the phone. Sammy really did a great job with the phone. I'd love the built in task manager but that's probably too much to ask for.. any idea his I can get the touchwiz apps on a aokp rom? Phone, messaging.. music maybe..
Thanks a million
They don't work on aokp roms. Must be a touchwiz based rom. There are replacements for the apps such as gnote for smemo or memo beta from the play store.
As for black star being laggy I think you should check how you flashed and be sure you followed the proper flashing procedures in the OP of that thread. It is a very good rom. It runs fast for me and many others.

Some how a dev in the N7000 thread has managed to put snote premium suite on his miui rom so maybe in the future we will have it for other TW phones like the i717.

I figured it was only a matter of time before someone figured out how to put the s-pen apps on non TW roms. I woukd think that would make them more appealing to many other people that stick with stock because of the apps.

yea I hope we see it on our note soon they have it with miuirocket rom which is a asop derivative.

Looking for new International Rom similar to CleanRom?

I have been out of the country alot lately and have lost track of what are the good rom for this phone due to lack of time to read and not able to flash because I have to have my phone working. I am still running cleanrom 4.5, I have loved using scotts roms for years!
Looking for some suggestions on few I should try. I don't need to much fancy stuff i use my phone mostly for email and web browsing and a few hardware control apps.
It must be able to work international with a local sim. I know i am not on the official vzw international rom but have got it functioning and haven't wanted to break that.
Any pointers will be great to have thanks!

Update to the global ruu and root it if you don't want to much jazz
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
Well I like it to be set up and customized i just don't like it all VZW bloated or over app'ed. That is why i love scotts "clean roms"
Try Vigor360, it's like CleanROM on global firmware.
ineffibalis is also based on the newest RUU with a very nice aroma installation. I just switched and really liking it
Thanks for the tips. I will have time to try some out this weekend.

[Q] Samsung S Pen Apps on Custom ROMs

I am waiting patiently for the offical JB update to be released before I decide to root or not, if it still runs slow as snot I will consider rooting. But before I do, does any one know if it is possible to reinstall the S-Pen suite of apps on a custom ROM? Or would I just have to find 3rd party apps that would let me use my S-Pen again?
Glad you asked, I have the same question. I"m currently running CM10 with no major issues and wanted to check out the other apps that are S-Pen friendly.

I found this when I was looking to see if by some happy chance the S Memo and S Note apps showed up on the play store.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ngarside.memo&hl=en
I am in nearly an identical position as you. I was holding off on root until JB. (I have rooted all of my other devices in the past). However in my case I gave up and rooted.... I found an app on the Note II forums for auto detecting if the s-pen was in its slot, and then changing the input method accordingly. (It did not work, and I think it is because the s-pen detection in the holder slot on the Note I, at least my copy, sucks).. but I digress...
I accidentally, having nothing to do with root, locked up my device, so I had to go into recovery and re-load the ROM/Factory Reset.
So I decided to try out a few roms... I have never been happier. The difference is night and day. (Using flappjaxxx stock ICS rom)
IF you go to a stock modified ROM, then you will maintain S-Pen. The key is to go with a stock based ROM. If you go with something ported off of another device then i don't know.
My advice, take the plunge, root, modified stock ROM and then see what JB brings. If it is anything like the past, you won't want JB. You will want the JB stock modified ROM. (Best of both worlds)
Your s pen will work on any Rom, whether it's
Touch wiz based or not. What you loose by using a non TW based Rom besides TW specific apps is the special functions like hold screen for screen cap, or double tap to bring up memo. Besides that the s pen works.

OK, so if you want touchwiz, there is a chance you could still use Samsung S Pen apps on a custom ROM... OK. That answers it pretty well, I should investigate third party S Pen apps before rooting and going to custom stock based ROM. I hope the JB update makes the Note run a lot better and not eat my RAM like a fat kid in Willy wonkas factory, so I don't have to worry about it lol

Verizon Galaxy Note II Development...

I’ve been curious as to why development and rom builds have been so slow to come to the Verizon Galaxy Note II? I look at other carriers and see that they have a more extensive collection of ROMS available and was wondering why?
The reason for thisi is our devs have currently been working out keeping unlocked bootloaders on the latest update for some unfortunate people, And we are just getting started with the roms. FOr the best roms, let the devs work on their own pace.

From past experience, I've had a phone with many roms but most of them had their share of bugs which drove me away. I have used Scott's roms before the note 2 and his attention to detail and simplicity is unsurpassed, we are very fortunate to have him. We also are lucky to have CM builds pumping out as my former device waited over a year for just the beta.

Really most OTA ROMS are not all that different.. Sure some have more options etc.. The real fun comes when AOSP is stable..
We just got official CM nightly's as of yesterday.. While there are a few things to work out with kinks here and there, the real fun has just begun...

It will only improve. Verizon was late to the party with their variant and locked out the bootloader. Nobody is going to develop much on a device with locked bootloader. Also, it is true that devs have been busy helping us noobs.
I didn't think development would even be this fast. This is the best phone on the best carrier, so I assume development will continue. I am sure many people have a GS3 already, so won't be moving to this platform.
Speed up development by donating to a dev.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
Didn't someone just release a mod that a allows cross carrier roms?! Not to mention aosp is finally getting solid. Patience is a virtue, things are taking off.
I personally think the development on this device has been great. Better than I expected really, given the way Verizon tried to chase away users from this device with stupid things like the branding on the home button. At the end of the day I'm just happy with what we have. Could have been a lot worse without Adam.
If your that bored flash some N7105 base roms. Just don't derp and flash the radios for the other carriers. I am running SkyNote right now.

I think one of the reason why is lack of stock functionality. The varieties of AOKP, Baked, CM, AOSP, Miui roms have been extremely popular and successful on other Google devices(varieties of these roms account for more than 50% of entire roms), but apparently not many people demand those roms on Galaxy Note2 because of lack of stock functionality...such as SPen, page buddy, other good motion functions, and etc, etc. I used to be a huge fan of AOKP roms while I was owning Galaxy Nexus, but after switching to GNote2, I never looked back. I wanted more of Samsung experience rather than Google.

I agree with this. I want to keep most of the stock functionality with the ability to mod. Hence why I love beans rom.

wow totally shocked

So my g2 came in tonight from amazon att on contract for 29 bucks. I assumed I was going to have to root and rom it based on some reviews. My last phone was a nexus 4 with kit kat on it. I always run stock or close to stock android. But I have to tell you, once I put nova launcher and played with my settings..... I don't really see the benifit for me to change it. I didn't expect the phone to be nearly as nice as it is. I thought it would be a sideways move from my n4. But everything about the phone suprisingly great for me so far.
I do wish I could select other apps for the multi tasking window, but whatever.
I'll probably root eventually to get the at and t bloat off. But for now I feel like I got a lot more phone then I bargened for.

Nice to know, I currently have a N4 and I have been considering this phone. Based on the reviews I wondered if I should wait and see what other phones come out over the next 6 months but your post gives me optimism.
Phone is pretty sweet.
I like the toggles on the device. Battery life is soo good compared to the nexus 5/xperia z1 that i previously owned.
Ive been stuck trying to figure out how to get twrp installed. Even though i read the instructions haha they dont work for me sadly, i suck.
this phone is a beast.
I love this phone and everything that comes with it. I unlocked my bootloader, rooted it, put in a custom recovery and flashed a custom ROM . Then I realized it was better stock. All the custom ROM did was remove the cool stuff and made it look like all my other devices. They weren't nearly so cool when stock so they can stay custom but this baby I put back to stock. Mind you, I left it rooted and with a custom recovery so I can still tweak things but I don't lose all the goodness that this phone is.

I'm glad you like it. and it sounds like you want the same stuff I wanted out of this phone. Look around the forums and find things. For example I am running cleanrom just to get the crap off of it and its still like LG Stock except the crap and i am using Nova to look "Vanilla". Also I used Xposed Framework to change a few things around the way I like it. There is also a thread on here to use split view. its a port from the LG G Flex and works excellent. This is the link to set up Split view. Check out my screen shot to see some of the Xposed mods you can get to make it yours.
This dev forum got a lot more attention than I expected and its paying off bit time also just makes this phone that much more awesome.
I uploaded some pics of the Split-view along with some Qslide apps open too.
One last thing, This thread makes the Camera WAYYY Better.
Definitely impressed by the g2 even 2 months later. ...

Since there are all these mods and debloating possibilities available there really is no need to use a custom ROM - not only on the G2, but on many other devices as well. It's just a bit more work; but hey, isn't that part of the modding / flashing fun?

I agree and it keeps the devices unique. I find that the phones become more generic. All the stuff is the same. You just might be able to change the color on one before the other catches up. Even from one device to the next, all the custom ROMs end up looking the same.
To be fair though, in a some cases
it is a definite benefit. I would never be running kitkat on my Note without a custom ROM. The battery improvements can be huge as well.
So I guess it's the device, benefits and good ole personal preferences. Regardless, isn't it wonderful to have the choice? And the hard work these people do to create these ROMs, for free, is amazing. Either way we're lucky.

mine is in the mail.... thanks for the different views on stock and modding....
So day 2 or 3 now. Took it to work today and battery lasted easily twice as long with very heavy use then my n4. I even ingressed and didn't need to charge it.
I'll hvae to look into the split screen mod, that would be pretty useful.
The ONLY irritating thing that I've not been able to simply fix is the volume for google now is the same volume adjustment for the keyboard. I like a nice quiet but audible keyboard and a loud voice with google now, I'm sure I'll figure out a way, but its not readily obviouious how.
I thought I'd end up rooting it the first day because I had the latest and gratest kit kat on the n4, but I've got no desire to do it. I'm sure I'll get board and do something different eventually. Just cant leave well enough alone.
I just picked up my n4 to copy the ringtones over to the g2, and what did I do? tried to turn it on looking for a button on the back. Already trained!
Seriously I think this is the sleeper phone of the year. I snickerd at my friends n5 today. I told him it was cute and it was a poser's development phone. I was only half way joking.
