Has anyone noticed that the bottom edge of your DNA has a slight 1-2mm shadowy area where the backlight is dim as well as random areas along the sides (this is not the capacitive light bleed which most units all have, which I don't consider a big deal)? I've had numerous replacements and all have exhibited these issues including a few Verizon store units. I find it surprising that this hasn't been reported upon in any reviews. It's fairly annoying on white and light colors, the majority of what I use the phone for (side-by-side with my 4s, the 4s has even lighting to the edges). I also checked out the HTC One in an AT&T store and couldn't see these issues, so it looks DNA rather than HTC specific.
It's a bit hard to make out from pictures, but it is visible.

that sucks you must be getting bad batches. Here's a pic of mine attached below, also I am extremely near sighted to the point where i can see the pixels on this phone no problem taking off my glasses and getting close. I can not find on a white background any light lvl differences. Id try another store to get your next replacement from or something.

If the top of that pick is the bottom of the phone, then I can see the dim area, but you're right about the sides looking uniform. I wonder if the refurbishment process introduces issues along the long sides.
yeah they all have it dude. most people just don't see stuff like us lol i know exactly w hat you mean but it doesn't bother me..
now how about this...turn your phone at an angle and look straight down to the top, and notice on the left and right of the verizon logo these 2 black squarish looking spots? lol

Yeah, man; it's a curse. I'm one of those who notices the digitizer when the display is on as well.
Because of those lights, I think the top 1/8 of the screen is a bit brighter than the rest as well, especial if you're viewing in landscape. If you do the same on the bottom, you see nothing, like they didn't put any LEDs there. The inconsistency I've noticed along the sides isn't the exact same between any two phones (I've had a number of replacements mostly due to other issues). I bothers me pretty much any time I use the browser, maps app, texting, or anything like that, but I think i'm slowly getting used to it. From what I can tell of hands on time with the HTC One, it looks like they've mostly avoided this in that model, if not because of a larger bezel to hide the diffuser/LEDs in.

OK so long story short since I'm on my phone. With the screen dimmed and with a dark background, the phone looks like it has a tear in the screen that's darker than the black wallpaper. Its most notable when in the desk clock aosp apk with the night mode on. Very odd. Also, I can see it elsewhere if I try.
Anyone else have this?
On a side note, the vibrate mechanism seems fairly noisy.

Are they more like black blotches? If so then multiple people have confirmed this during like dark load screens, but then they go away. If they are tears, is there anyway you can take a picture and post it?

I wish you best of luck at the Veriozn store you'll need it. When I was complaining about hissing noises from my headphones with the Bionic which is a known issue , the rep and manager denied hearing it when it was easy to hear. I do have exceptional hearing, but even my buddy with crappy hearing was able to hear it. So I just called them both deaf and left the store.

Have you compared your display to others like you planned?
I've got my RAZR yesterday and it seems to have exactly the same issue Its hardly noticeable during usual activity with the phone, but once you've got solid black background - it shows image like it was a transparent green tiled film on it with lots of dots and a green-lighted vertical strip on the left of the screen.
Bought mine at handtec. With all delivery process (to Russia) not sure what to do with it... return?
I've made a picture. Its has more brightness than it appears, but demonstrates what it looks like.

Besides that, the screen looks awesome and this is not noticeable in a good light.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1. Just make a picture without flash covering your lens.
2. Go to the dark room without any lights.
3. View Picture. Observe the display!
4. Please post your observations in this thread!
Yea I went to best buy and Verizon and they both had the same problem. They told me since I had 30 says I should come back near the 20-30 day mark and see if their newer batch of phones has the same issue or not. Works for me as it doesn't bother me all too much.

Hi, i got me a razr 3 days ago and was very happy with it.
But, as i happend to use the phone in the dark, i notised that when the screen brightnes was set to low there was ALOT off black marks under the screen. right then and there it lokked like water damage. but thees mark wherent noticable when in a light room or screen bright* set higher.
so i went back to the store and got a new one, but soon noticed the same defect in the new phone.
Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks circleofomega for posting the pic
Yes, I have this problem too. I returned the phone for exchange
I had the black splotches on my Razr screen as well. I took it in and Verizon replaced it. Got it home and tested it and there is no more black splotches. I did notice a little bit of the "some areas are darker than others" but for the most part it is not noticeable at all.
I had this problem on my SGS2....replaced the screen 4times...still not solved! finally getting a refund from Samsung... was considering the droid razr well... but after reading this.... *packs my bags and runs*
I did get the phone replaced and was able to find one with alot cleaner of a screen and I only looked threw 3 phones they brought out. I had a diagonal line threw the screen. Either way the phone itself is great just glad Verizon actually cares about customer.
"The RAZR display uses a new high efficiency OLED material. These screens may in some cases exhibit slightly darker regions, like you've noticed. Because the darker regions are only visible when viewing the black screen in a very dark environment, they will not interfere with general use. Most importantly, they don't change over time and are typical for this generation of OLED material. They in no way indicate a problem or defective screen."

Try switching it for a new phone. If you encounter enough models with a substantial amount of artifacts, Verizon will offer you an exchange for another phone model.

I did swap it out at Verizon. They brought out a bunch of Razrs and I hid under a coat and started them up and checked the boot screen for marks. By the 3rd phone I found one with a pretty clean screen, only had a few small spots at the bottom barely noticeable.

LOL! I stole your idea from another forum where you posted the pic your girl took of you under a jacket.
So I went into Verizon and after a bit of persistence I got the rep to let me swap out my phone. He even let me go to the back area and turned off the lights for me. I still used a jacket since the ambient lighting from the store was still interfering with visibility.
I tried the first phone he brought out and it looked pretty bad, so I asked if he could bring out another. The second phone he brought out barely had any marks on it!
Needless to say I swapped out the phones and was very happy. I will be visiting the same store soon to purchase an accessory bundle from the same rep.
BTW thanks Spooner for your previous info about the reps letting you boot up and check the phones.
Don't believe Motorola's explanation... so disappointed due to this issue. Can't find anymore info than what has already been said.
Just probably going to return the phone and get out while I'm ahead.
I called Verizon, and no one knew what I was talking about. Went to the store, and no one knew what I was talking about. Took the phone back today for the Galaxy Nexus, and I couldn't be happier. See you guys later.
It's only noticeable on black or really dark backgrounds but does everyone else's home button bleed a bit of light into the screen or just mine? I'll see if I can snap a pic tomorrow.
Yupp... Once an led brightness mod is created it should be better.
Yeah noticed this from day one. Mine is not just on the really dark screens either but I think every phone I've ever had has had something like this in one way or another....no biggie.

I noticed earlier today that I have this as well in pretty much the same exact spot. It starts from the home key and goes on towards about an inch or so, inward toward the screen.
Do you guys know if this justifies an exchange from BestBuy? I'm just concerned that it may get worse because that's how these things tend to play out over time.
Mine is only really noticeable with a dark screen in a dark room.

Mine was ordered via TeleSales. Should I call them and report this for a replacement, or take to a store and get a replacement there? Will the store replace it if I got it online?
If you have light bleed issues, you should get a replacement. Mine is perfect - zero light bleed. First HTC device I've owned that didn't have at least a little.

you can also download an app from the market that test your screen for dead pixels and it helps find light-bleed as well. I believe it's called Screen test, just type that in the play store and you'll find it.

You have 30 days to do whatever you want with it.
I had light bleed on my first EVO LTE. The light bleed is most apparent when the button lights are on, the screen backlight is at its dimmest setting, and the screen is black. A great way to test is to install the flash-the-brain.com FlashLight app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.android.flashLight) and swipe down to set it to the dimmest setting. A picture of my first phone and the replacement are below (this was a long exposure in a completely dark room, so it didn't look quite so bad in real life):
I have it also, i didn't always notice it but definitely there at times... must be when the lights are on the buttons like ahecht pointed out
i dont know if it gets worse though, should i exchange?
yeah mine has a light bleed on all black screens as well
mine has light bleeding as well.. i noticed it during a game boot up today.. isn't our 30 days getting close? hmm what to do ...
I noticed last night that my S4 has three spots toward the bottom middle part of the screen that show up lighter than the rest of it under dark backgrounds. Now that I saw them, I can't really UNsee them and it's annoying every time I look at it. I was going to try to take it to Verizon and exchange it for another unit and hopefully test it out before I leave. I think for $688 I should have a perfect device. I tried to take a picture and highlight where they are:

Anyway, just wondering if anyone else has this problem and what you would do? I'm waiting to get in a chat with Verizon to see what they say before I call the store.
I guess there's only two of us then.
Oled screens are known to do this...its different on each device. Look in any s3 forum or search google and you'll see posts about this. Noth8ng is perfect...everything has flaws...

Known to do it or not, if there are devices out there without this problem I'm going to try to exchange it. I did Google it and saw other people talking about it from different devices and they all ended up exchanging it. For $688 the screen should at least be uniform. Though now that I'm actually Googling OLED mura, I'm seeing that they all do have it. That's part of why I wanted to post this, to see how many others had it with this particular phone. Odd that everything I'm reading says it appears on black screens and you can only see it in the pitch black, yet mine is only visible on gray backgrounds and it doesn't matter how bright it is.
Here's another version of my picture, I tried to bring out the three splotches a little better. Just making sure this is in fact mura.

It doesn't look anywhere near that bad, just focus on the three darkest splotches. That whole darker circle is a result of the burn tool in Photoshop. It looks very similar to the first picture when I actually use it, but even that picture makes it look worse than it is... the second picture it just to bring out the three spots in case anyone wasn't sure where they were. I'm actually going to edit the second picture again because it makes it look much worse than it really is.

I'd exchange it for that reason too. Maybe it's just me, but for the price I paid I'm going to try to exchange it until I get something I'm 100% happy with. At least until they tell me I can't just take a new one from the inventory anymore.
Well, went and got it exchanged an hour or so ago, this one doesn't seem to have the smear/splotches and doesn't appear to have any pixel issues either. Camera doesn't lag, buttons are good, I can't think of anything else to check. I think I'm in the clear though.
I always download the Dead Pixel Test from the market and check my phones before I become too attached. It's free and works great. I hate getting a phone all set up only to find a dead pixel or screen problem. On my S4 I can't find any light/darks spots, or any dead/stuck pixels.
Im about to buy a V10 but I has heard about bleeding light on the left edge/corner of the 2nd screen. Is it happen on all the v10 or just some and I can exchange for a new one if it happen to me?
It's all of them...is only noticeable really when the screen is off in a dark room....not a deal breaker for me...this phone is awesome!
Well, its an issue on all v10s, and personally I don't mind it. It winds up looking like a gradient from the top right corner that occupies roughly 5-10% of the main screen, with no line or anything between the first screen and the second screen. I would take a pic for you, but I don't have a camera that can pick it up. What you could do is go into a store and cover the phone with like a jacket or something and look under there while its off to see if you have an issue with it.

well it's literally a hardware issue, I think I will just go to a store and test it, If it is not a big deal, then I will buy it or wait till LG fix it because I saw some look that pretty bad on youtube

As the others have said, it's definitely there. It all boils down to personal preferences - it's definitely there on mine and it can be a little annoying at times but I love the phone enough to overlook it. Just basically becomes what you're willing to look the other way on.
Mine has the light bleed ... but it's only noticeable in a dark room when the screen goes dark - then for the next 30 seconds the second screen stays lit and you see the light bleed. Once the 30 seconds passes, the second screen dims and the light bleed is nearly impossible to see.
3 of my associates have this phone and 2 of them do not have any light bleed at all. It doesn't seem to matter if it's an AT&T or Verizon version - some have no bleed, some do.
It shouldn't bother you. Then again, if you're anything like one of my OCD associates, it might make you insane, as he returned 2 of them till he got one that didn't have any bleed.
Mine has it too. I don't think it's a deal-breaker but you will notice it in a completely dark room.
Here's a photo showing it.

This was taken in a completely dark room with a 10 second exposure, at pretty much the worst angle for seeing the bleed.
I can see it on mine in a dark room only. Doesn't bother me one bit
I've gone through 3 devices. The first two were both from an 11/15 batch of phones, and had very noticeable light bleed, with one even having some on the upper left of the main screen as well. On these phones, you could notice it even with lights on as the icon on the left of the second screen was noticeably brighter/more vivid than the rest of the icons, which looked pale and washed out. The third phone is from a 12/15 batch, and is much better. It shows a slight bit of bleed like the picture in the post above, but none on the main screen. The light bleed it does have is really only able to be seen at night in a dark room. Otherwise you can't tell at all and that screen's blacks are just as inky black as the rest of the screen.
LoL. yea i noticed it too. reminds me of my very old CASIO watches when u press the light button to see the digital screen at night. However, not a deal breaker at all. i barely notice it every now and then

how do you know the batch of the phone?
i also notice the light when i looking direct/normal at the screen should I get replacement? i just got it today kind of sad i talk to LG about it they say should I get new phone at the store apparently is a known issue for them
Mine has it also but it is visible only in completely dark room with main screen off and second screen is bright. If both screens are on or second screen is dim (i use auto brightness so this is the case most of the time) it is not visible. It does not annoy me at all. Now i use nillkin leather quick cover case so it is not visible at all because main screen turns on automatically by opening the cover.
