Shout out... - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

To all the viper team (Vin [yes we had a rough start but my ignorance got the best of me] and viperboy), you two have gone above and beyond what anyone probably thought was possible on the evo 4g lte.
Many others are there as well (bigdaddy, CPT TB, ThickLizard, and many others and I'll modify this after some sleep, but dam, you guys are the bomb and I know we will lose you in the future.
So thank you for this golden rom!

That's weird, I was thinking of doing something similar. Viperboys zeal for developing and sharing was never more evident than the first week the One was released, and the development forum was thread after thread by viperboy.

Team Venom (aa well as many others on this forum, I apologize for anyone whom I'm sure I excluded, there's just too many great developers and contributors here) should be called Team Android. IMO, they are better than Google, and get paid primarily by donations.
I wish there was a list of main contributors.
If you are one, please list yourself here. Even the smallest contributions you make are the difference between content and awesome!

Yes, I am. Vince, viper, zarboz, deck etc. But I think that's already reflected in the respective threads (I mean, anybodys donations).

See I haven't heard of a few of these people. And I personally don't have much free time to get on the computer so this primarily is my computer.
Anyway, we need a developer's list and donation thread.
On an off note, sure wish Vin and Viper boy would get together and put up a sense 5 viper rom, even if it was just beta. I know they got their plate full though.

Let me begin with a thanks for the message behind this thread.
As for the sense 5 rom... I will begin working on the sense 5 version of viper4g, when sprint/htc gives us an official update (or when it's leaked). This is due to not wanting to spend hours modifying the code to work with an inherently flawed port as my base, just to have to scrap it when the time comes to work with official files for this device.
I know it's tough to choose between the latest and greatest (sense 5) or your favorite rom that is still based on sense 4+, but I'd assume that most other devs feel the same in regards to building from an ruu, or at least from a rom base that is a product of an official ruu for this (or their respective) device.

Only reason I am anxious I am hoping sense 5 will free up some ram
Thanks!

Why so few roms?

I recently got the photon 4g coming from the evo and sadly I only see like 3 roms. I thought this phone would be more popular and get more attention. Hope I didnt make the wrong phone choice.
Sent from my MB855 using Tapatalk
i'm guessing because the unlocked bootloader is killing 4g - and people are waiting until there's a fix for that to start pumping out the roms...
Would you rather have fifteen mediocre ROM choices or a couple good ones? I guess what I'm getting at is what do you want in your ROM? We've got some very talented developers here and have a couple solid, daily ROM's plus kernals. I'm just waiting fora good ICS build to come out.
BTW I don't think you'll regret your decision.

First I think that we need to start with the fact that this is a drawn out question that has been brought up a dozen times (try looking). This is a question that will easily piss off several people in the XDA world, especially the seasoned posters. How many ROM's do you need? I also had a EVO and yes there were SEVERAL ROM's however most of the them were slight variations of the same ROM, just with a personal developers twist on it. (by the way - all hail the Developers). In regards to the MoPho, the unlocked bootloader is a issue, however, the MoPho ran better than the EVO fresh out the box. I personally am running CM7 and I can not believe a phone can be this damn responsive, this fast, and this damn awesome. So when you ask the question, Why so few ROMS - try clicking on one of the several links that the website refers you to that shows other people asking the same question. Remeber the golden rule to XDA - search for the answer first!

second, you will find that development has only just picked up heavy in the last month. the same went for the EVO, it takes time to develop.
third, please check out the roms we do have, they are wonderful and if you like CM7, we have that!
Id rather have a great build like CM7 then a million roms that are just a snowflake from being the same thing. few is better to me when it comes to rom builds.

Just go with Cybik's CM7 port. It is being submitted to Cyanogen for approval, so will be hopefully soon, a fully supported and "blessed" ROM. The lack of 4G is a non-issue for me, no 4G in my area, but would be nice to eventually get it for when I travel.

if your phone choice was based on the 'thought' or 'hope' of a certain number of ROM's or a certain quantity of development then you might want to re-consider the basis by which you make electronics purchases.
And for the love of all that is holy, please research/search before posting and stop insulting the development that we DO have. Obviously you haven't spent any time reading in the fora to make a fair assessment of the status of development for this device yet you are very quick to hop in the general forum and make (what seems to be) a complaint thread.
just sayin'
/soapbox
ALL ROMs on ALL phones are based on rooted deodex stock, AOSP or porting. 99% of those ROMs are nothing more than minor changes to either stock or AOSP. Almost everything can be done with flashable theme packs.
The remaining 1% are serious rewrites, optimizations or ports. For example, ROMs like CM7, Vaelpak and Synergy are serious coding. Changing the font or color scheme is theming and not a ROM.

Kernel Source Useless?

I'm genuinely curious if this big kernel source drop is going to be beneficial to us or not. I've heard two sides to the story:
1. "HTC b trollin' man, they drop source and release a new kernel..."
2. Devs can use the old kernel and fix the issues that HTC fixed, along with the other issues AOSP ROMs were having like sound and MMS.
I have no idea what's going on, and I'm curious whether I should expect things to blow up here soon, or if this kernel source has been essentially useless. I'm generally unaware of how long it takes devs to pick apart the kernel code and utilize it. Any input from those with knowledge on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

Both are correct. It doesn't really help sense based Roms because sense kernels are going to be newer than source.
However, aosp roms can now be fully functional. Aosp is what many people on here care about and are waiting for.

It's only been a little over a month since the phone first came out. Give more people time to transition and we should start to see more activity. It isn't that bad so far, but most development is based around Sense because no one wants to wrestle with AOSP. Once they get AOSP stuff finished though, we'll be golden.

Yeah, I'm sure that's true. In my head, I figured everyone would be working to get to that point as quick as possible once kernel source was released. Like a giant team project, haha. Instead, it appears that only a select few are tackling it. Even custom kernels seem to be a rare mention. Oh well, I'll continue to enjoy the Sense ROMs as much as I can until someone cracks the AOSP code.

We just need the support of the big guys. For some reason it feels like most of the big time devs haven't moved on to this phone yet, or went with Samsung instead. I know that Preludedrew is working on JB for our phone, I talked to him about it yesterday on Gtalk. Deck mentioned in IRC that he was working on it as well, I believe.
The kernel developers are hiding so far, probably because we don't have the big guys working for us yet. I'd love to see a Tiamat kernel, even if I'm personally not a fan of custom kernels.
Kernel.org is also down, so that's slowing things up for everyone.

So far my experience with HTC phones have been a very disappointing one. Coming from the OG Epic, all I've kept hearing was how awesome the development for the OG EVO was. So of course when the EVO 3d came out it was my phone of choice over the Epic Touch. That was disappointment number one. Then when the LTE came out, I've noticed all the OG EVO developers and owners was all excited about this phone, so i decided to give HTC another chance. So for I've been more disappointed then at any point. The lack of ROMS, the pitifully performance of sense 4 and HTC's new stance on locking bootloader and sneaky updates with new Hboots was the last straw. What phone will I get next? Im not sure, but it won't be a HTC.

[Q] So many good roms for the One X's... any way to port over to ours?

Is there an easy way to port over roms?
There are tons of AOSP and AOKP roms for the different One X devices out there, and yet our development has stalled. There are also quite a few decent sense roms that we havent had a look at yet.
Is there an easy way to port it over? I know they use different radios and all that jazz, but there should be a way to port over the OS and keep the rest of the stuff.
Im willing to take on the task of porting over if there was some tool or directions.
Anyone?

Just switched to the EVO LTE. Why 2 Development Forums?

Hello,
I just switched to the EVO LTE and was wondering why there were two development forums?
One says EVO LTE Android Development, and the other says Original EVO LTE Android Development.
Whats the difference?
Basically, the "Original" development section is meant for work that is groundbreaking or new for this phone. Examples of this include kernels, CM9/CM10 development, MIUI development, and very special Sense ROMs. The other section is meant for the rest, which would be ROMs that use other ROMs as bases or ROMs that advertise mostly placebo effects as features.
Think of the "Original" section as "the big firsts".
Theres a sticky right at the top of the original android dev forum that explains it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1761432
It gets all to confusing. A rom like viper lte is in the original section, but its base out of the pokemon rom and its scene base so its definitely not original. So yeah I still don't get what's the true definition of original.

You're one of the people who is taking "Original" literally, which is why you're confused. It doesn't mean that a ROM has to be made from scratch, it means that it has to display a considerate amount of original work. Venom ROM is in the "Original" section because it has many features that no other Sense ROM does, like the extensive tweaks. These tweaks represent a huge amount of effort made by the developers.

[Q] I don't get it: Fixed 3D ?

So it seems there is that Chinese Rom with Sense 4.1 and working 3D, this is amazing, however, it is the only one of it's type.
The fact that HTC did not release the Driver Sources made me somehow hate them and it was the reason why many bugy couldnt be fixed, many devs left.
So, this Chinese Rom is removed because it is not allowed according to the rules, but... why exactly?
Could someone please post information on this story, really, this is EXTREMELY important, it could change our 3volife
Is it because it's a Viper fix, why then don't they release the fix?
So, the simple question is:
What's the fuzz about the 3D-fix? Somehow no one knows whats going on!
I'm gonna make it as brief as possible.
We can't release it on XDA or link to it because it is considered kang. The ROM is based off of a Viper3D build and was used without permission. Now unless Team Venom gives us permission to release their ROM with working 3D here on XDA, we can't do it because then that's kanging someone else's work, and that's highly frowned upon here, and leads to heavy infractions

I can not understand how is it possible that only one team is capable to make 3D work. Why can not someone else make it from the basis without their rom?

That team who got it working guaranteed was working for weeks and weeks on end getting it working, somebody here could do it for sure, but nobody has tried yet, and its probably something that's more trouble than its worth. Even if we looked at what that team did to get it working we can't use any of that, or even copy any of that because then it would still be kanging their work. Its something we either A) need to get permission for or B) take care of ourselves, but have that be 10000x harder. Its not impossible, but it is improbable

This is ridiculous in my opinion.
I'll probably get flamed but the whole purpose of android being open source is so anyone and everyone can contribute and make it a better experience.
I understand the HTC drivers are proprietary, but in my eyes, if you've made something better why not share it with the world...are these 'team' members making money on these fixes, are they coming out with their own proprietary phones...that's the only reason I can see to necessitate keeping these fixes to yourself...yes I applaud any ROM dev for their work (I sure as hell couldn't do what they do) but what's the point in the end? Bragging rights? Come on!

Android is open source, you changed is the exclusive copyright? This is not unreasonable.
If anyone need help, you can email me
The rules centered around this are not android related. It has nothing to do with open source, they're xda's rules. It makes sense why they're there (that way we don't see the same exact ROM under a different name pop up every 20 minutes, etc.). I don't like the rule either but hey, its just something we gotta live with

I think that we could do an exception for 3D in 4.1 sense...

GSM - working like a charm. Using the 2.0 version. Aroma is in Germany but pretty understandable.

Sieht gut aus, heruntergeladen! I'll probably tear the rom apart and see about making it CDMA worthy, though I won't be able to share it once I'm done being it's Kang'ed...

No lags at all. What I experienced was huge battery drain. So, right now, I oam in the process of reverting back to stock ROM. Tired of all these tests. Gonna get SIII tomorrow anyway
So we have fixed 3D camera now? ICS or JB?
Don't seem to see a straight answer. Only that it is using venom tweaks without perms..?
