[Q] How to unroot SGP 5.0 completely for warranty? - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

I have a SGP 5.0 with CM9 ROM and Sultan kernel. It is a brand new device but I recently found out that the audio jack was faulty and so I am going to get it fixed with my warranty (or the Amazon seller said I could return it for a full refund). Either way I need to get rid of all the modifications I made. Could someone please explain to me how I can unroot my phone but also remove the custom kernel, CWM, and anything else I need to do to stop my warranty getting voided? I heard that you need to reset the flash/binary count. I've read a bit about this on the forum but am still not completely sure.
Thanks!

-Download SuperOneClick, plug in your device, and click "Unroot." I think there's another way you can delete it, but I can't remember what exactly you have to do (I think you have to delete Superuser or something).
-Download the appropriate ROM (this is the stock ROM).

-Here's the pit, if you need it:

Yeah. Make sure you backup everything too.

The audio jack doesn't work when you install some custom ROMs. Make sure that's your issue before you unroot and return.

Yeah, I'm trying to go back to the stock rom and kernel to check if the audio jack works properly on that, but I'm not too sure how :/

I'm still really stuck - I can't even install a stock ROM. I managed to install rj's kernel r14 with CWM but when I'm on CWM and I select the ZIP for the actual stock rom (which I got from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574207) I get an error saying:
Opening update package...
Installing update...
Installation aborted.
I also tried using a different stock rom and I got a slightly different error:
Opening update package...
E:Can't open /sdcard/blahblahblah.zip (bad)
Installation aborted.
I have no clue what to do D:

Remove /system/bin/su or /system/xbin/su, and then remove Superuser.

Ah thanks, didnt realise you could flash via odin!
Now I've finally got the stock rom back but I got stuck on bootloop when I tried using the stock kernel, so I can only use RJ's kernel right now :/
But now when I plug headphones in, the sound comes through the speaker. I have to use SoundAbout to get the sound to work in the headphones, and then I'm left with my faulty headphone jack where the sound only works when I twist the headphone wire in a certain way.
I thought the audio issue where you need to use SoundAbout was only for some custom ROMS, so why is that issue occuring when I'm using stock rom...Is it RJ's kernel which is causing the issue? I can't use the stock kernel since I get a bootloop

Okay, I went to a Samsung Repair Shop and they said that someone else also had an issue with their SGP and it took them more than 6 months to get it back and he didn't recommend me repairing it. So I've decided to return it instead and buy a new one to save the hassle.
So the only thing I need to do is put the stock kernel on the phone and it should be good to send back, but as I said it bootloops when I put stock kernel on, so does anybody how I could fix this problem?
Thanks

Flash kernel first then rom?
How is the audio jack faulty? I know that with the newer kernels only headphones with a mic work do not know if they have fixed that yet.

I have to push and twist the headphone jack in a certain way for sound to be omitted. And I did flash the kernel first, but no luck I'm afraid...
The thing thats worrying me is that I have to use SoundAbout to get any audio to go through the headphones - this was a bug with one of the roms I flashed which is why I switched back to stock rom but I am still experiencing this bug...Weird.

I too found myself needing to do this and flashed the appropriate stock rom from that thread but only got boot loops. What I did afte rthat was go into cwm valume + up button and wiped everything and it booted up i suggest you try ^^

That is what I meant yes, just use to calling it cwm lol

Thanks a lot! That finally solved my problem and I'm now back to stock rom and stock kernel!
However...
I still have the headphone bug where I would need to use SoundAbout to get the headphones to work...This was a bug in one of the custom ROMS I installed but it now seems to be a bug on the stock rom...

Try flashing N.E.A.K. or another kernel tar package in ODIN while you have your phone in download mode.
That should fix your CWM recovery.

but after testing i wanted to get back to checkrom and now i have this problem that i can't flash any other kernel! only CF-Root is working , with any other kernel i em ending at the "Triangle"..phone is not booting any more
Really, ICS and GB is going crazy. Flash stock, kernel, flash cf root kernel, then flash newest kernel to fix sd card issue, etc... Since ICS was updated on sgs2 everywhere just problem, not booting, not installing, etc. Really, really big pain.
I dunno man what could solve you problem. I'm gonna search in all threads to find some useful information, if I will, I will post here, should be somewhere answer. LOL, best of luck.

[Q] Is there anyway to flash a kernel from recovery?

Noob here,
Originally i was trying just to root my phone. I didn't want to flash any roms or anything like that just root it so i can get rid of the bloatware, and so after much reading i found that the only way to do it on ICS required a method that might have a bricking bug. Well i went for it anyway, did it successfully. All was well, saw the superuser icon, purchased mobile odin pro did the whole bit. It seemed to be working great. Then i had to immediately change kernels since the stock kernel seems to be the culprit with the whole bricking bug situation. Alrighty, well i went and did that sort of successfully? I chose Siyah since thats what most people in the thread chose. Flashed it with mobile odin pro then it got stuck on boot. After more research i figured out where i went wrong, apparently the first link to the siyah kernel was a CWM/jb kernel or some such situation. I apparently should have downloaded the one further down. My fault for being so quick to try to get it all over with. Now my issue now is i'm stuck at boot, Is it possible to somehow flash the zimage of the proper kernel from the recovery menu? Or would i need to flash a tar file or zip file? would that still work if i used a brand new sdcard or would it have had to have been installed previously? Any help or guidance would be very appreciated. Thank you!

Good job doing all the reading you did. Sorry this happened If the jellybean kernel flashed and went to reboot you should have CWM recovery!!! If you download the 4.3.3 ICS no mic swap kernel Yes you can transfer the kernel to a microSD card from your PC with the adapter then insert it in the phone and then flash it in CWM install zip from Sdcard. You can transfer it from your PC to your phone using CWM, and flash the .zip I have never done this so I cant give you detailed info how to do it but I hope some one cool will help you with that if you need it. All you need to do is flash the ICS kernel in CWM and you will be good to go!! Worse case flash the stock rooted ICS package again in Odin and it will flash the stock ICS kernel with the firmware again then flash the right ICS Kernel in Mobile Odin .... GL

[Q] Some ROMs boot, others stuck at boot!

Hi,
My I9100G is now on CM10.1.3 with CM stock kernel, everything is working great, but whenever i try to flash a different ROM or kernel, i get stuck on the bootscreen!
Except for samsung stock ROM and CM which work as well.
I have tried the following:
1- Wipe everything(data, cache, dalvik cache, format system) and do fresh installs.
2- Flash JB bootloader.
3- Un-root and re-root.
4- Try different recovery (CWM, TWRP).
5- Nand backup and restore works fine.
6- I forgot a couple of things, probably.
I miss trying out new ROMs and kernels, help an addict get his juice :silly:
I'm using ROM and kernel CWM cleaning scripts and I hadn't had any bootloops after ROM flash. I highly recommend this. Google ''i9100 ROM wipe script''. I also use the kernel wipe script, from the same xda thread.

JB Bootloader? Not enough flash a kernel with root? However if he does not work try to put a ROM stocks and to send it in for support service.
I do hope you're flashing stuff meant for the I9100G, and not the I9100.
Still problem persists

He can always flash stock firmware using Odin.
To OP: It's really bizzare. Using wipe scripts prepares the device for flashing any ROM. I'm assuming that no download errors occurred (MD5 check is ok), that the ROM is matching your phone's model and that you're using a proper recovery.
Flash a different kernel (cwm or twrp based) and flash the ROM with it.

I have sent my phone a couple of times for service before the warranty expired, reset binary counter and flashed stock ROM, no problem.
MD5 checksum fine, ROM matching phone model, recovery i have been using for a while.
Will try TWRP and report back, thanks
So i cleaned up the system and flashed the Blazing safe kernel and now it got kinda interesting...
After using the scripts to clean everything up, then i flashed the kernel again to double check i had recovery, i tried to flash the ROM i wanted which is Cyanfox, it gave me an error.
Updating bla bla bla....
.
.
.
This package is is for "i9100g,GT-I9100G" devices;
E:Error executing updater binary in zip '/emmc/......'
Error flashing zip '/emmc/bla bla'
Updating partition details...
After that i tried the SLIM ROM 4.2.2, frankly i don't remember where i got it from as it was sitting there for some time.
Anyways it worked and that's weird...cyanfox was supposed to work as other users say it worked for them.
Also when Slim was flashed it had CWM, which i opened and tried to flash cyanfox with it...and it flashed without errors but still stuck at boot logo screen!!
What's the problem here?? :silly:

Try asking here mate. :good:
Solved
Thanks, but i found the solution to my problem.
Actually i had multiple problems:
4.4 ROMs will flash but will not boot.
Some ROMs will not even flash giving error in CWM (status 6, status 7 ).
Regarding the first problem, i found a thread mentioning that Kitkat ROMs are not all supported by CWM (Sorry i can't seem to find it again :/ ), and that a particular CWM version 6.0.4 will solve that. Too lazy to search for and get, and came across another solution, where aidfarth released his version of a Kernel supporting 4.4 Kitkat, with TWRP instead of CWM which solved the status 7 error.
Further reading is for the other two error solutions.
So i went on and tried to flash that kernel, giving me the status 7 error in CWM, which brings me to the next error.
Regarding the second error, status 7 in CWM, it could be solved by manipulating a script in the ROM or zip in general that you want to flash, this link will demonstrate, it's what i followed.
So i followed, edited the ZIP file and whatnot, then i tried to flash it in CWM, then got the status 6 error.
This will require the same steps as how you solved the status 7, but it has to do with UNIX encoding, this link is what i followed.
Thanks all for replies.

[q] need help!!!

I have a GT-i9100 and I was on this ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1489197 - Omega V24
I wanted to switch to 4.4.2, this ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2535369
So I tried to flash it but I got this error:
Finding update package....
Opening update package.....
E:Can't open /storage/sdcard1/cm-11-20140109-INFECTED-i9100.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted.
So I tried it with the KITKAT recovery in the thread and same error.
So I tried so flash Omega again, first it succeeded, but after the install I tried to reboot, and I got stuck in bootloop, it was booting and go straight to recovery, after that I tried it again and get this: finding package..... opening package.... and it just reboots to recovery.
So please help me!
Why can't I install both ROM's?
How can I get 4.4.2 working or go back to Omega because I can't use my phone now, only recovery and download mode, but I can't connect my phone to my pc because the USB port is not working good.....
Looks like you package (4.2.2) was corrupted (maybe bad download) or your recovery wasn't compatible (most likely). When you mess things up like this, first calm down and clear your data/cache, and flash your rom again. If that doesn't work, go to stock via odin and go ahead from there. Also, don't forget to make a nandroid backup next time and read instructions carefully and calmly.

Do you mean you can't even get into recovery? If it can, I would think a data wipe might get the ROM to be able to boot.

You might want to double check if you are using the right version of recovery that kernel is fully supported with your ROM. For example, if you are trying to install a KK ROM using an old version of CWM you will end up in error 7 or end up in a boot loop screen. My words are pretty mess up but I hope you get what I mean. So make sure you have the right version that match each other (recovery, kernel, ROM).
Hope that helps.
im new to all of this. when i hold the home button the power button and the vol down button i get a screen telling me installing a custom os could be bad press up to continue i do this and install even the official software but when it reboots it keeps looping on the samsung logo

I suggest you flash a working recovery via odin first. Look for TWRP, it's the best newbie-friendly recovery or try CWM if you are looking for more advanced options. After that, flash a stock or custom ROM to get your phone back working. Make sure they are compatible with each other. Why didn't it work when you try flashing the stock firmware via odin? Make sure the zip file is downloaded properly.
Hope that helps.

It seems like you have broken files. Make sure those firmwares are for the right model of your phone. Are you using I9100 or I9100G? Is your phone still under warranty? What do you mean by not network based? I think it's time you head on to NeatROM JB 4.1.2 Aroma and flash that to your phone. It's way better than the stock one from Samsung. If you don't know how, read the instructions from the OP.
Hope that helps.
il give it a go

This error is most probably because you don't have the right Rom for the right model or not compatible hence the verification error. Are you doing this in recovery mode? Make sure you follow the installation instructions properly and download the right one for your phone model. Just try cyanogenmod for starter. Installation is easy to understand.

ok so i went to cyanogenmod downloaded the newest file for the s2 when i did unzip i get 2 folder meta-inf and system plus a boot.img file. i burned the boot file to a disc but when i check it the disk is empty even though i can see its burned. also when i go to sammobile to get firmare it says no files available...therte must be some way of getting this to work H E L PPPPPPPPPPP
Dude, you're not supposed to be burning anything to discs. The zip file is what the recovery uses to install from. It should include the custom kernal too.
Copy the zipped ROM file to your SD card, put it in your phone and boot into recovery. Assuming you've already flashed the latest custom recovery CWM or TWRP (I prefer TWRP)
From here, to be safe, do a full wipe (That's everything except sd-card: system, data, cache, dalvik-cache)
Now you install/flash the zip file via recovery. Hopefully that completes without error. After that clear cache and dalvik-cache again just to be sure (I do this out of habit)
Reboot.
Hope this helps. I saw you mention something about "efs" and that gives me a bad feeling, read something about needing to back that up before bad things happen. But anyway, good luck :good:
