[Q] Headphone/media volume is horrible on this phone - LG Optimus L9 P760, P765, P768, P769

Anyone else noticing how poor the max volume level is on this phone? I like my music loud in my eyes with headphones and I just can't push it with this phone. Anyone have any fixes to this or use any apps?

Here's a great solution if you like loud music.

Try Apollo+ app

Or use PowerAmp with custom eq preset.

Turned out my headphones were busted. My new seinhessiers (sp) were just delivered and phone is very loud.

I didn't know you could listen to music through your eyes...

PowerAmp provides a small boost, which makes the puny LG headset just loud enough. Sennheiser speakers generally seem to be louder, though most of them have 32ohms impedance, 16ohms should be louder, theoretically. I like oldskool headphones without silicone plugs, i don´t think the new ones will last one decade like my Sennheiser MX550. I just bough MX400 MS for less than 10 Euros, looking cheaper than the MX550s, they provide the same sound quality and volume.
The LGs headset plug is Apple compatible, without an adapter to switch mic & GND connectors, Samsung and Sony stuff won´t work. Nokia´s needs the adapter to play music w/o distortion, but control buttons will never work.

Hello guys, can someone say me if Sony Eicsson MW-600 and CM7 by Jerpelea are compatible?
Is the bass sound on this headphone not too good? Thanks...
I have this headset receiver and I use it with Sennheiser MM60 (headphone unit which is practically PX100).
The sound is pretty good, but it's pretty tricky to connect more than one devices (phone and computer). The volume slider is also tricky to control (you must sweep the bar in order to control).
I put a piece of "soft" screen protector to prevent scratching.

The bass is pretty much not there unless you use enhancers which i believe are only available for froyo and gingerbread users. However with any froyo rom there are connection issues as well as for music, i.e. cut in songs and random disconnection. However if you can find an equaliser/enhancer for 2.1 then you can increase the bass frequency.

Thanks for your reply. I am still contemplating on buying this item. I had one Sony Bluetooth headphone before, but the bass is not that solid compared to wired headphones I've been using...

Rezound's ibeats earphones blowing out over because too much bass?

Thanks to dsp manager, I up the the bass real high when headsets are plugged in and thanks to the ibeats being able to produce high amounts of bass, my music on the phone sounds amazing!
I was wondering if anyone's ibeats have blown out because the bass was set too high? If not, I may be the first to report this in the future lol, hope not.
I have heard them pop with some frequencies when the bass was up, but I have maxed them out and I don't think they will blow. Hey since the headphones came with the phone are they covered under the year warranty? Or do they have one from monster?
I have to make this quick. If you want more info send me a message.
The only thing that will blow any speaker is distortion which you will hear.
Never turn the volume up all the way. At this setting the sound will likely not be clean and clear but it has nothing to do with volume. Most audio sources will distort at full volume. If you want it louder use an app like PowerAmp and increase the preamp output instead.
If its still not loud enough get a headphone amp! I have one and the iBeats will go so loud it actually hurts my ears after a few minutes.

Don't quote me on this but I remember reading that they are covered.
Yes, they are covered. I was having problems with the control module on the headphones - the play'pause/talk button, specifically. I called Verizon and they told me I could take them to any official Verizon store - not the "authorized dealers, but an actual VZW location - and get them replaced.
The second pair works beautifully but I'm planning on selling them. I'm going to pick up a pair of the Beats Tour earbuds, which will also work with the phone.
And one last item of curiosity - I plugged in my Shure se110 headphones to my Rezound last week and, to my surprise, Beats Audio fired up. Pretty cool.

Using the sgs2 with a high-end headphone.

I've been considering for a while to buy a good headphones and I've decided to buy an audio technica ath-m50. The only thing that is bothering me is the yamaha audio chip. If I buy those headphones, I'll be using them most of the time on my sgs2.
Will the yamaha chip make the ath-m50 sound like a cheap low-end headphone?
If you happen to own an ath-m50 I wold really appreciate it if you could measure the hollow of the earth cups, diagonally and horizontally maybe. I've read that people with large ears may find them uncomfortable. The length of my ears are just below 7cm(I don't care, they are small, my mum told me that)
I've read supercurio's analysis of the audio chip but my question still remains.
Waiting eagerly for any response.
Get an iPod nano- excellent sound quality and a great price. I hate using my GSII for music though Poweramp is a great app

Well, if you really want to use a pair of high end headphones with the galaxy sII, get a portable amp like i did. I got a fiio e7, and it powers the ath-m50just fine. Listening to them straight out of the GSII audio jack wont let them utilise their full power. And dont get an iPod if you want really high quality audio. :-/ (Just a suggestion )

I've thought of this, the only problem is finding a store that sells the audio technica ath-m50. I live in London I'm sure there is plenty of stores.
However this would not be much help because I'm not very experienced with high end headphones, so probably almost anything will sound good to me.
If you want to listen to boom boom music with heavy bass then the SGS2 is inadequate .Expensive headphones are not going to do that much .
However as a user who does not have any boom boom music i find stock player headphones or slightly upmarket low end Sennheiser headphones fine .
Power Amp for me strangely lowers sound output level .
jje
I've the same experience as JJEgan with Power Amp. It seems to boost dynamic range at the sacrifice of overall volume.
For getting the best out of high-end headphones, you could always try Neutron Music Player from Android Market. It claims to use its own "32-bit audio music rendering core", although it's debatable whether this makes a difference, given that uncompressed CDs only have 16-bits per sample. People seem to like it, though.
Just recently I noticed something when listening to music using Poweramp with a headphone.
When you click on something such as the app drawer, the volume of the music that you are listening to increases for fraction of a second then it goes back to normal.
It can be very annoying when you are using the phone while listening.

Tried Neutron at the weekend, and these old ears couldn't see - OK, hear - what the fuss is about. No difference from Poweramp with a very unscientific ABX on my Sennheiser IE8s.
Definitely the worst UI I've seen on any music player though - so hideous that it should win awards.

Senn HD25-1s and Ety ER4-Ps both sound fine straight out of the headphone socket.
Using poweramp, without any eq or tone control tweaks, just ~30% crossfeed.
I read all the reports of crappy audio on the GS2, so when I got mine and tried it I was very pleasantly suprised.
Whereabouts in Poweramp settings is crossfeed...Didn't realise Poweramp supported it ?

Ahhhh. So that's what Poweramp calls crossfeed. Gotcha Yeah I normally have that on around 35% with Brainwavz M3's.

Portable Audio Amplifier

Has anyone use the TF201 on an airplane with closed, but not noise-cancelling headphones?
I've found that it's not possible to get the volume up loud enough on my Audio Technica ATH-M50 headphones to be able to hear dialog in movies. The headphones are great, but even with a closed design they are just too quiet at the loudest volume to really hear well on an airplane.
Has anyone used a portable amp with the prime that you would recommend? I've done a quick search and it seems like a lot of amps need a digital input. I'd imagine that I'd just need a simpler analog amp that takes a 3.5mm input. I'm looking for something cheap to just help on an airplane. Any recommendations? The cheaper the better.
Check out of the fiio e line. They have some portable amps that use the 3.5mm connection. I have a fiio e6 and i like it

Have you used it on an airplane and does it seem to give you enough of a boost to overcome the background noise? I think I got confused when I saw the fiio amps because they photos show them hooked up with a custom connection to an iPhone for example, but now I see they just take a 3.5mm input.
And they aren't too expensive so I might just try it out.
I have the same model headphones.. a Prime.. a Fiio amp. The cheapest one... And they work great! Makes them much louder

using windows phone 7 on my hd2 you could increase these volumes from the rom. Is there nothing like this in android?
Don't know if you tried any of the apps on the play store. I use volume + app. Works great. Lets you go above the stock volume levels for both the internal speakers and headphones. There are other apps out there to boost volume as well.

Of course.. but you need to be running a rooted/custom ROM. You can usually mess with the audio configuration files in the /etc folder for whatever audio amplifier chip is in the device.
I use an app from the play store called "equalizer" to accomplish what you're looking to do, works perfect:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sImNvbS5zbWFydGFuZHJvaWRhcHBzLmVxdWFsaXplciJd
Just do a custom setting, and instead of doing a typical EQ curve, just boost every slider by the same amount and this will give you a volume boost.

Audio - Output Level

I've got a couple of requests, both audio related. Hoping ROM and/or kernel developers might be able to help out...
1. A global gain setting/boost for the headphone jack. For those that use the headphone jack with, say, an Aux In to a car stereo, you really have to crank the stereo to get decent volume. It's probably a good 20-25% lower output than my iPhone 4. The Play Store boost options are unreliable and only work for apps that don't include their own built-in EQ.
2. Toggle to disable the LG feature that turns the volume down automatically "to save your ears" when you plug something into the jac. It's a good feature for headphone users, but a real annoyance for those using Aux In on another device. Plug in, crank the LGOG, crank the stereo and you've got a listenable signal.
Thanks.

Again, the booster apps only work for apps that don't include their own EQ. So it's fine for Pandora but not for, say, Subsonic.
Best way to do this would be with a system-level tweak. I had a Nook Color and they had extremely low audio levels. A dev added this feature and all worked great.
Clearly I'm not alone in being annoyed by this issue.

I tried today with my Tones, didn't change a thing. None of the settings changed anything.
I'm pretty down about the volume issues too.., my only real beef with this bad Larry..I'm on base 0.7, running well, w/custom kernel too. One weird thing that got me confused is a few apps, all "audio" related, power amp(very few issues in 2+yrs) volume+ and 2-3 more won't open, nothing happens, been through every step that should be needed for fixin this, kinda boggled. Oh, I gotta check but on linpack, base .05, stock kernel, my phone killed it and snagged 4th and like 19th highest overall, the 19th was under clocked too multi thread, /Rob/Boston

Well,I found a fix for #2 in my original post. I wanted to find an app that would let me use the iPhone volume and track buttons on my workout headphones. I grabbed Headset Button Controller.
Turns out that it works great and includes a feature to automatically put the headphone jack to any specific volume level when something is plugged in. Perfect.
