Help Restoring my 4.0 Player - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

Hi guys. I absolutely screwed up trying to install CWM to my player, and managed to get it stuck in download/recovery mode only. I somehow managed to install Steve's kernel, which at least gives me a more functional recovery (CWM), but I am still unable to get my player to run normally (I'll click reboot in CWM and it will reboot back to CWM). At the very least, I would like it to get back up and running again. I tried putting .zip files on an external sd card and installing them via CWM, but for whatever reason my player can't the .zips.
If anyone could help me flash back to a stock rom or something that would be fantastic. Thank you.
Edit: Just to clarify, my player is 4.0 USA. Also, many of the recovery files that have been posted here have been removed.

First of all download this stock recovery rom for the USA 4.0 found here (thank zalcimon please) http://www.mediafire.com/?aodm44hzan3jauo
Now you must install Samsung Kies on your PC to get the correct drivers. Then you must download and install odin found here:
http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...IxHp1ISlP2fzGKhtw&sig2=ZjUHLCkIbG1_EprOk9enrA. After that you need to put the player into download mode, by first turning off the player completely and then to put it into download you must (Hold volume down and power).
Here's the fun step. Open up Odin and make sure only Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time are checked or YOU WILL BRICK YOUR DEVICE *THE HORROR*. Plug the Galaxy Player into the USB Port (while it's still in download mode) and Under ID:COM it should say something like 0:[COM4] and is yellow. Where it says message it should say "Added!!"
You have to now hit PDA and select the .md5 or .tar file(this is the recovery rom you downloaded early). Hit Start and it should take about 2-4 minutes to finish. If you get bootloops then you must turn off the player, and put it into the stock recovery. Hit wipe data/factory reset, and Wipe cache Partition.
Flashing a kernel is very easy when you use odin. Basically it's the same steps as flash a rom. All you have to do is hit PDA select steve s kernel (make sure it's the .tar file) and hit start. It should take about 10 seconds and you're done hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. You're giving me a better idea of what exactly it is that I need to do.
Unfortunately, I already tried flashing the recovery rom in Odin, but it doesn't work because it's a zip file. I tried unzipping it in both WinRar and 7Zip, but all I get is a folder with several items in it. I can't properly flash back to stock because I don't have a stock .tar file.

Dang it lol. I have the .tar file, and I'm going to use a site called www.transferbigfiles.com that lets you email big files to people. However, the good thing is that they let you share links. Here it is https://www.transferbigfiles.com/dd8765db-edaf-4d58-a798-3d091429974c/hfVImIZm4TURWTX05abOQw2. Be warned though this will only be here for 5 days so download it in this time please.

I tried those, but obscuresword was correct in stating that the files linked aren't in .tar or .md5 format, and thus they can't be flashed with odin.
Anyways, I tried the file that obscure linked and I am still unable to get out of recovery. I basically get a bunch of red text every time I try to do something (like wipe data), and when I try to reboot it just reboots me into recovery once again. This is the same issue I was having earlier, so for the time being I have flashed an alternative kernel that at least has a recovery that is a little more functional. I still go back into recovery when I reboot though.

Try downloading a different ROM, wipe data and dalvik, and flash it via Amon_Ra's recovery.
sounds like corrupted files - did you open the zip files before placing on the sd card? you may have broken the signature on those files. try downloading again. do not open the zip files, just transfer them to the sd card and try flashing again.

What OS are you running and what browser are you using? I know for a fact Safari on a Mac causes the signature to break. I always recommend Firefox when downloading these files, and saving the file as target. Not opening and extracting.

Just try using another browser. Download and install Firefox if you don't have it and replace the zip with the one you downloaded with Firefox.
Make sure you're downloading it from a legit source, too.
Google Chrome!!!!
Google Chrome is great, I use it and love it, but using Google Chrome it's always good to check your md5sums, well it's always good to check them regardless, but Google Chrome is known to have issues with corrupting files during download.. Do what he said and try downloading another browser, that should do the trick!! Sounds like amon RA is doing it's thing, and you are s=off so you are in pretty good shape, it has to be the browser deal I think.. Good luck dude, let us know!!

Are you positive you're not extracting or opening the files? It really is unlikely to get that many bad downloads.
Again, do not open or extract the zip file. Leave it intact.

Make sure and copy any pics or anything else you want to save (not the downloaded roms) to your computer first.
Choose "Partition" from amon_Ra's main menu and then I think it says
"Format". When it gives the option to set "swap size" use the trackball to set it to zero (0).
When it asks the size of the "ext2", set that to zero, too.

get the update.zip from there ??
either get rom manager and flash clockwork then go to recovery and reinstall packages twice or get the update.zip from the link above and reinstall packages twice and that'll take you to clockwork recovery
you sound like you have stock froyo - which means you have the 3E stock recovery.
I suggest following my guide (signature - noobs).

[Q] Xperia U - CWM won't allow to access SD Card

Im very new to all of this sorry I apologize in advance in case I don't make much sense..
I've tried resetting to factory settings and had no luck, im currently using Enigma ROM v3.5 and Kernel - 3.0.8+ [email protected] #1
The story is, I loaded up the Nemesis kernel and enigma rom, however It did not seem to work fast and smooth at all. I tried to flash back to 6.1.1.B.1.10 in order to retry everything but however that did not work either. At the moment I have no backups in CWM therefore I can't revert to a previous state. I want to flash other roms and kernels however CWM isn't letting me. Sorry if some of this information is irrelevant, I've been at this for hours on hours and am currently very frustrated. Would appreciate all the help I can get.
Is it saying any errors?
