4.2 Photosphere Camera - AT&T HTC One (M7)

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33544058
I flashed this zip to get 4.2 camera onto stock HTC One rom.
It installs fine and the camera and gallery apps come up perfectly fine. The photosphere viewer works and so does photosphere itself, but the sphere and panorama focus is off. When using regular camera or video mode the camera can focus very cleanly, but when using photosphere or panorama the camera is incapable of focusing. Has anyone else tried this? Any suggestions? Thanks.

When I had my nexus I used it to take a few panorama shots..They never seemed to come out good when they rendered into the "sphere"...like the camera snapped the photos too soon and things would overlap

I have a Nexus 4 too so I know what you mean on that, but the quality coming off the HTC One is significantly degraded and unfocused. It is almost like there is something wrong with the app's compatibility with the HTC One camera or something I'm guessing.

The stock one that comes built into the phone works a hell of alot better then the 4.2 panorama did..well for me anyway..Come to think of it I think I was still on a version of 4.1 when I installed it first..I never did try it once I upgraded to Bamf 4.2.2, since I sold the phone a few weeks after

anyone any ideas please? thx

I read somewhere that HTC pulled photosphere from the 4.2.2 update, which pretty much says it doesn't work yet on the HTC One. I haven't made or seen a single good Photoshphere from the one where the Galaxy S3 will make lovely ones. I'm sure HTC may sort this out eventually.... Android 4.3 maybe?

I actually found a APK that installs the 4.2 gallery and Camera with Photosphere on any ROM even a non rooted stock One

[Q] Various cameras? What exists, what's available?

I've played with several roms, shiftsense, liquidsense (several versions)..
Most of these roms all have different cameras. I'm curious if its possible to install "just the camera app" and have particular versions.
I'm looking for the one that allows you to make panoramic shots, built in. I know there are apps in the market that do this, but they suck in comparison to the one thats come with different versions of roms, built in.
I'm currently running liquid smooth v3.2, its got what appears to be the camera from android 1.0, from 5 years ago.
Skyraider 1.3 has panorama built in and coming from liquid myself I have to say that the change isn't so bad. Deep customization is still there and battery life on Imo's 5.1.0 is amazing.

Android didn't exist 5 years ago. The first commercially available phone to run Android was the HTC Dream (AKA G1), released on 22 October 2008.
Android was around before the G1 technically...but that's another story. Anyway, I use the MIUI camera on my Thunderolt running CM7, with the stock camera as a backup since the particular MIUI camera I have installed doesn't support the front camera. The only problem is if you use both cameras, after switching back your pictures will look screwed up when taken, though they look normal when you actually view them later. I should update mine now that I think about it...

This might be a terrible question but is it at all possible to install a sense based camera on an aosp rom? I love aosp but hate the camera with a passion.

No, you need to have Sense to use a Sense camera. Kind of sucks, the Sense camera is *****in'.

Decent camera for AOSP?

Hey so I'm really a big fan of CMX, but I am far too spoiled by the Sense camera. Anyone know of ONE good camera app that can do burst the same way, supports the button the same way, and really is as much like the Sense one as possible?
Give this one a try.

the s3 camera can do burst mode, but it doesn't have the best image picker, it just saves them all.
seconded
I'll be looking info the s3 camera app. Only reason I'm using cm10 as my daily driver.

Where can I get the S3 camera? I've been looking but, knowing myself as well as I do, I probably looked right at it and didn't realize.

It's listed in the OP of either the paranoid Android thread or the codename android thread.

The s3 camera is nice. It only does a 5 pic burst and it's not a "press and hold the button" its a setting that you have to turn on when you wanna use it.
It's ok, but not even close to the sense camera which is unfortunate. Still love JB tho

Personally I really like the Sense Camera and it was difficult at first to even consider AOSP due to the amount of horrible camera apps out there. BUT... I do enjoy the S3 Camera. Yes it doesn't burst when you hold the capture button as Rippley05 said, but it will burst to 5, 10, 15, or 20 pics at a time depending on what you set it to. There is also issues with 1080p recording, but I hardly ever do video so that doesn't matter to me.
It has all the other functionality that the HTC app has. I also think it takes better night or dark lit photos with less banding and noise. I'm happy with the CM10 9/29 nightly and this app. It will take some time for sense to win me back.

Camera good on custom roms?

Hey all,
I have been away for a while using a deodexed stock latest update rom for a while just fine. I continue to use Sense because of the camera app. When I was here last, the camera kind of sucked on custom roms, so I felt like to keep the camera to its best I needed to stay with the stock ROM.
What do you guys think of this? Is it ok to switch to a Jellybean 4.1 ROM or 4.2 when that inevitably gets ported too? Does the camera still record 1080p, and does the camera use the image co-processor for instant burst mode?
The camera is one of the main focus points on this phone for me, and the Sense ROM camera experience has been really good.
The last time I heard was that people say the sense camera is being ported through cm10 though I have yet to see any evidence of it working.
HTC didn't release the driver for the image chip which is responsible for post processing, auto focus, flash level, and noise reduction, white balance, etc...
I heard that porting it is virtually impossible because those stuff are propriety of htc.
The camera on port works, though using the camera would drain your battery life as everything is done on soc instead of the dedicated chip. You would also lose the continuous auto focus and all the pre programmed optimization which would result in worse image especially in low light.

Using CM10 + the 4.2 Camera = :victory:
It's wonderful, I haven't had any issues like the stock Sense camera has.
Nice, I thought the sense camera wouldn't work without the sense framework... any info on this trickery?

So true. The 4.2 camera is really nice. The images are quality and the camera itself is functional. There's a zip file out there that you can flash. It's named 4.2Camera_EVO.zip.

Only issue that I found on the CM 10 4.2 camera is when using the video camcorder I cannot get the FPS past 21. Normal operation for video is 29. Shooting video at 21FPS makes things jumpy..
For taking pictures the 4.2 is passable. VIdeo not so much..
That is why I am also stuck in the Sense World ...

[Q] Blurry Panorama and Photo Sphere with CM 10.1 based roms... Anyone else?

I know the CM 10.1 build isn't final yet, but I was hoping someone else is seeing the same issue and I'm not just losing my mind. I love the interface, but the lack of autofocus on those two camera features is just killing me.
The two roms I've attempted:
[ROM][4.2.2][AOKPA:CM10.1] ParanoidKANGdroid 2.3.3 [April24]
cm-10.1.0-RC1-quincyatt
Stock camera is affected with a lack of focus on both when trying panoramic pictures.
As for the Photo Sphere, these are the differing 4.2 Camera packages I've attempted to get this to work with the same lack of autofocus:
camera42_patched_v2
camera42_patched_with_sharing-signed
STRATEGISTs Android 4.2 Camera mod with Photosphere standalone for Still images only
Now, all that being said, I have no focus problems when I drop to a rom based on 4.1.x or lower. Which leads me to believe it's an unresolved issue with the CM 10.1 coding in relation to the Galaxy Note at this point.
Thanks for hearing out a noob on his first post. This issue was enough for me to feel like I should sign up for an account and speak up. XDA has served me well since my first Droid adventure, with an Eris, and I give nothing but props to you guys.
Ran into the same thing with the 4.2 Camera when added to the |ROM|| Padawan JB || 4.1.2 || 5|07. The stock Samsung camera works beautifully. I wouldn't be trying this hard to get Photo Sphere if I didn't already have it with a Galaxy Nexus. I'm addicted to that shot mode.
I was able to get the 4.2 Camera to focus in Sphere mode using [rom] [4.1.2] paranoidandroid [2.57] - [jan22].
I guess maybe this is the better noob question: Does the kernel have any impact on how the camera responds? Maybe I should start playing around with kernels?
took this picture a few weeks back on one of my roms, probably PK
http://blownco.me/image.uploads/16-05-2013/original-de4bc3bffbaa6a202fe516bc47098c69.jpg
does not look blurry to me. looks clean and crisp
as for photosphere, thats a ported feature, dont expect it to work as if you had a nexus phone
i too have the blurry panoramic issue with various/latest 4.2.2 roms. i cant say exactly which update, but a few weeks ago it would fc after rendering but would take amazing photos. now it doesnt fc anymore, but is blurry.

AOSP camera vs LG stock camera

From what I'm seeing the aosp camera does WAYYYY better at taking night pics than the lg camera. But pictures in motion or of motions still kinda sucks. But in daylight I feel this camera is second to none

I hope there is a fix for the autofocus not working correctly when shooting movie. (It lost focus even if subject moves slowly).

Are you referring to the camera when running custom rom or is that available to sideload/download over stock rom? In what other instances is it better, same or worse than the stock camera?
Sorry for the noob Q but I really don't want to lose the good camera when rocking a custom ROM. I only want the custom rom as I'm coming from the super stable/smooth Nexus 4. Everything from games to regular apps are highly optimised for the nexus software. Yet I love, knock on, IR blaster, built in radio, stock camera etc of the G2.
Really not a fan of the AOSP camera when I flashed OES ROM. Anyone know if it's possible to sideload the LG camera app, or is it just impossible?
Well i have malladus custom stock rom. His rom has some kind of update that make the camera focus faster in daylight. But the AOSP rom that i used had a WAYYY faster autofocus at night.

What AOSP ROM were you using? Isn't malladus a stock based ROM?
I sideloaded the nexus 5 camera app on my stock rooted G2 and found it to be seriously weak compared to the stock camera app. Although in dark conditions, even the stock camera would show motion blur all the time. I'm dying to flash AOSP but don't want a poor camera.
Are my fears unwarranted?

The stock camera app is pretty solid for me. Loving this thing so far!!!
Exactly David. I've done side by side comparison with family i5 taking still shots and the g2 produced better exposed and detailed images. Moving objects however and the iPhone was much better.
Do you have any experience with the AOSP camera from the AOSP ROMs? Are they better or worse than stock camera?

I tell no lies the AOSP camera is much quicker at focusing at night. having did a day time comparison tho. Couldnt keep it that long

The camera is the only reason that makes me want to replace this phone. Especially that I am about to be a father, I am so excited and I want to take many pics of my kid lol
The battery life on the other hand is what really makes me want to keep it.
Can anyone try out Camera360 from the Play Store and post the results for low light and motion shots? (I don't have the phone yet)
Try the Focal camera. In my limited experience, it focuses quicker and seems a little more responsive.

I've tried pretty much every combination of roms and camera apps. My experiences are :
The LG camera app does better in most aspects regarding picture quality due to greatly superior image processing algorithms.
Aggressive sharpening, what in my opinion is a bit too long shutter speed and too long focus time makes it seem sluggish compared to an iPhone 5S. It takes more effort taking a good picture.
Additionally, things like panorama are useless at night. The viewfinder fps is horribly slow, making the camera ux feel really bad.
The aosp app is quicker at opening, but has less functionality. I can't understand anyone claiming the aosp camera taking better pictures at any time of day, the night photos are terribly dark.
It's easy to see that the closed source components of the LG camera software effortlessly blows the aosp drivers out of the water.

I've always been a fan of those quickshot camera apps. I have a son too so I just blast my camera at him for 8-10 shots a second and pick the best one.
Also you can try to lower the megapixel down. I'm not sure if this would make it faster but should. There are also steps you can do in the settings to provide quicker response times. I believe there is also some modifications that fix a few things for a better experience also.
I've heard that the camera is actually pretty good, but flawed because of bugs and timings not being fine tuned (possibly a kernel fix). I've not had much usage with my camera but it takes pretty good shots when I've needed it to. Coming from a Galaxy Nexus, I don't see much difference.
In my opinion, its a quick camera. It is what it is.
You can also just record video and pull pics from it.
There are several options. I like the Burst shots myself, then just go back and delete the blurry ones.
