I will try to make a long story short. A couple of weeks ago I connected my I9300 international (bought in France) to a Macbook Air using Kies. Kies froze and I closed it, and disconnected the phone. I soon found out that the phone was not working, apparently because Kies had started an upgrade that never finished.
I reconnected the phone to the Macbook+Kies, but this did not recgonize the phone any more. After reading a lot from the internet, I realized
1. When I turn on the phone, I get a striped blank screen
2. I could not put the phone in recovery mode
3. I still can get to the download screen
Note that this phone was NOT rooted, and had the original firmware, Android 4.1.1.
Since then, I tried everything I could find on the net. In summary,
1. tried to flash a stock ROM using Odin, but I get a message saying that "there is no PIT partition"
2. I then tried to flash a PIT file. But Odin stops at "get PIT for mapping..." and nothing else happens
3. Also tried the S3 Toolkit, but it will not list the serial and apparently does not recognize the phone
I have read all I could find, and ran short of ideas. Could anyone help me please??? :crying:
maybe this will help.
Still no joy

Thanks for the relevant link. I read it all, almost like a dramatic soap opera, every chapter rising in tension. Well, this is what I did.
1. Changed to another computer, now a laptop, virgin of Samsung drivers
2. Installed the drivers from link provided in the indicated thread
3. Downloaded Odin 3.07 again
4. Dowloaded the 3-part firmware as indicated by SirKunon
5. Loaded Odin with mx.pit, code, csc and modem files
6. Connected the phone in dowload mode, drivers were installed, got the "Added" msg and blue ID:COM square
7. Clicked start and got stuck again at "Get PIT for mapping" - see image below
I repeated from 5, now using another USB port. Drivers loaded again, and now I said I did not want Windows to look for drivers on the web. It installed local drivers. I crossed fingers, hit start, got stuck.
Any furter ideas???

never checked re-partition while flashing via odin! try unchecking it!
^ he was flashing a pit file. . It needs to be on.
Damaged nand probably.. go to a service center and explain the kies situation , never ever mention odin.

1. Go to service center.
2. Play as if you were a normal person (we on XDA are special )
3. NEVER MENTION ANYHING ABOUT ROOTING, XDA OR ANDROID DEVELOPING, REMEMBER YOU ARE TRYING TO BE LIKE A NORMAL PERSON.
4. Mention KIES accident if asked what happened.
5. Get free repair and have fun, not your fault anyway
Additional steps for future:
6. Don't buy a Samsung phone again if you ever thing (buy a Sony/Sony Ericsson or Nexus)

Thanks, bennycop. Tried your unbrick, but did not work. Even after installing drivers it did not help. Next step, Samsung service.
And thanks a lot to all that made suggestions, including never buying Samsung phone again. But I did notice that you have an S3!
That would be stupid, if they didn't fix it for free. I see your point. But if they do, why would you never buy a Samsung phone again ? I loved the LG suggestion though. You will certainly .. love.. the ... Experience xD

My other phone is an R800i Xperia Play.
It never had any problems at all at any point. No firmware bugs. No errors. Completely open source (good for devs) Sony Ericsson gives devs support as well (remember when they sent FreeXperiaProject 11 Xperia phones in 2011 for FREE just for them to develop Cyanogenmod)
The only problem EVER on the xPlay is the flex cable, because it is between the sliders if one hits the floor with the phone too violently (literally throws it as hard as possibly) or if you keep sliding it out as hard and quick as you can. If the flex cable disconnects then you would have problem (you would not see screen, touchscreen would not work or it would only work under charger)
And for the play it has such a nice and beautiful community in XDA where everyone literally helps each other and has respect for others and they are just nice.
For example:
Developer Sdojoin made music controls on lock screen for multiple ROMs and which can be easily ported into any other ROM as well. (Vokal 1992 adapted it)
I shared a rom with my custom AC!D Sound MOD v5 for Gingerbread (this was before AC!D Gingerbread official which came 4 months later)
Anyway enough Xperia Banter, we're in Samsung area.
BTW. One developer here that had an Xperia 2011 phone here is themer ThilinaC, I'm sure he still likes it A LOT.

Had this problem too, samsung says hold down volume and power but that doesnt work, what ALWAYS works for me is to hold both volume buttons down and plug in the mini usb. Itll skip the vibrant screen and go straight to the yellow triangle and download mode. Learned that on youtube

I can get it into download mode and odin does reconize it. I place the pit and pat files and then hit start and that where im getting the error message. Now I unzip the pit file but where I think its not right is the pat file I don't unzip that one is that correct. The youtube vid that I watched the pat file was a rar file (I think ) and what I have is tar file. Sorry if im confusing you im new to this.

Edit after seeing reply. Dont unzip anything. The pit file should just have the pit extension. And in the pda section should have the rom .tar in it. What rom are you trying to flash?

Sounds like an error with windows. Do you have any firewalls that would prevent programs from accessing usb ports? Also I would upgrade to a newer version of odin. 1.0 was very buggy. Check the bible sticky in the dev section for links.

Basically I've mad several threads before this, and have been trying for months to get my X10 working again, I'm going to put it into dot points.
What Happened?
- Using X10 as usual (FreeX10 rom, rooted)
- X10 randomly froze, took out battery to reboot, Powered On, Vibrated but did nothing further
- X10 does not work
What I've tried: Everything
- SEUS: does not 'recognise the device'
- PC Companion Repair: gives me a network error after putting phone into flash mode, does not go any further
- Tried nearly every version of Flashtool up untill the newest release
- Flashtool simply takes an unusual amount of time to flash then phone dies (flashing red light)
- The newest Flashtool won't start flashing due to having to put the phone into 'USB debugging' mode, which I cannot access
- Tried on various computers, different cable, bought a new battery, different internet connection - same problems every time
What can I do?
- Basically is there anything else I can do?
- I've tried everything, I thought the X10 was suposedly unbrickable.
* NOTE:
Also could the reason the latest flashtool is giving the abort error possibily due to a baseband incompatibility?
I remember changing basebands at one stage (do not remember which) so could this be the issue? If so how can I fix this/find out what baseband I'm on and the appropriate rom?
Having said that I've tried flashing a variety of different basebanded roms and all give the same error.
[EDIT]
Fellow member Mootmetal seems to be having the exact same problem. See his thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158807
Please help!
Example of Flashtool and my problem:
Note look at the time: It takes way to long to flash not even one file and then the battery will simply die.

The only time you need debugging is after the flashing is complete so that you can get rooted. Prior to that it doesn't matter.
As for flashtool taking long i can think of two things. One, your cable has an issue or its not making proper contact. Two, make sure you have wipe data enabled. Make sure your phone is charged as well, 50% should be fine. I dont think this is an issue but remove your sim card and sd card and try again. Hopefully you have some luck.
That being said I dont think your phone is bricked.
Edit; Was your phone very hot when it froze the first time? If so something could have been damaged from that time, which is causing the prob now.

Using the latest Flashtool I get this error:
-Wipedata is enabled
- I've tried with a bunch of different ROMS (1.6,2.1 etc)
- My cable is fine, I've used various cables
- No my phone was not hot when it first froze
Ive had that error before. The message that comes after about debugging is standard regardless of the out come of flashing. They should fix that.
Since you say the cable is fine, is the phone entering flash mode correctly. Since the first image shows that you got it in flash mode yet the second gives the impression it didnt.
Take a look at the flashtool thread and look at the errors others are having with the latest one, 0.2.9.1. Chances are you can find something related.
Gd luck

The first image is an older flashtool, it seems to go straight into flashing but takes way too long. Battery then dies.
I've searched my problem a multitude of times.

Also when plugging the phone into the wall charger, it displays the green LED although turns off around 20 seconds later. Why?
Have u followed this thread?

^I've tried this, does not work.
Step 1: Phone does not turn on after
Step 2: Phone doesn't turn on, so obviously USB Debugging won't work
Also could the reason the latest flashtool is giving the abort error possibily due to a baseband incompatibility?

I think it's a issue from battery. I know you bought a new one, but I had a similar issue. My phone didn't enter in flash mode, because of battery issue and I tried many cables, bla, bla, bla. So I bought a "universal charger", put my battery about 10 minutes and put again in my phone. After that, my phone worked again and I got charge from usb and even my "wall charge" work fine. I flashed my phone with stock firmware and then I tried many custom roms.
Good luck

OT: well, take out your batt, and reboot your comp. start flashtool. plug im your usb cable into your phone with the batt out. move the ftf file to another location - anywhere, your desktop. okay, flashtool select firmware and the location, should be desktop. choose your firmware from there. then, when it says plug in xperia, hold back on your phone and while still holding back, put in your batt.
best of luck.

Followed the steps, although Flashtool only selects firmwares from the firmware folder
(Flash>Pick Firmware - must be in the firmwares folder) so I cannot select it from the desktop.
Regardless this again leads to a very lengthy flash in which the battery will most likely die. It's taking forever.
-------------------------
I think it's safe to say that my phone is officially bricked. I've been trying for months on and off trying to bring it to life although nothing has worked. What do you guys think? Let it rest?
I think its an issue of your pc not recognizing your phone hence you cannot flash it.
Device not found.
Try this driver
and install with global generic and follow the x10flash.bat procedure.1
me I unbrick my x10 with this method
Really i don't have solution for you but i had allmost same problem. My x10 was briked 2 months and it rebooted allmost every minute. I tried everything above. Nothing worked. And my warranty papers are gone. But i managed to get it to the warranty, without papers and they flashed it somehow. And i really tried everything.
Oh, and i had water damage too. There is little white water dedector and it had red tots. I'm suprised that SE gaved me new phone.

When I connect the two devices, "MTP initialisation" comes up on the Tab sometimes, and when I say that I have to keep unplugging and pugging in the damn thing. SO, it says connected on the Tab, but my PC will not recognize it at all. There is nothing under Device Manager, and nothing under Computer.
And Yes, all my drivers have been installed. I really wanted that ICS rom and this is making me frustrated. If I can;t get this resolved, I'm getting an iPad 3 lol. Please help!

Had a similar problem myself and it ended up being the PC usb drivers. Used a program on the PC to remove all the drivers for the tab off the PC and reinstalling them and everything went great from there.
I thought the program was called Dev view or something, but can't find it right now, but anyway google how to remove drivers from your win version and you should be able to manually remove the usb drivers pretty easily. I ended up removing every usb driver except my mouse and keyboard from Windows 7, installing the drivers for the tab downloaded from Samsung directly and haven't any problems since.
This may be a bit of overkill so you might want to wait for other fixes to be suggested too.
Good luck.
Edit: just noticed this in two other recent threads "MTP selected under settings/storage/USB computer connection" don't know if it's only related to ics, cause I don't have this option on my tab running Task 14 slim. So may be of no help what so ever.

lol, I will do that thanks.
Well, yeah sorry that I didn't reply via the PM as it tends to get flooded at times and I lose track of where and who sent the original Do forgive me for that.
The problem is the red X appears when you had the USB charge from the Overcome series, I'm pretty sure it's a lib file that conflicts with other ROM's and such, and they said there was a way to remove it, but it's dug somewhere underneath their thread, the best bet would be to attempt a factory reset, I do hope that your data is backed up via Titanium or something before you attempt this, because doing a factory reset via device *Not CWM* tends to reset all sorts of mods applied to the phone, and the user applications.
If you do attempt a factory reset do let me know You'd be surprised what a clean swipe can do (Problem is there isn't an external sd slot) so things tend to get left behind from other ROM's (The ones that aren't replaced anyway during installation)

Basically CFRoot is CWM+Root, CWM is just a custom recovery module made for flashing mods.
You need to select these options as shown, Ignore the pink walls

I appreciate your pictures and help, but I have no idea of getting to this point. Everywhere I read it says that I need to be rooted to have CWM, I am completely stock, no root.
Good sir, you don't need root to get to this point. Just flash CWM from the Overcome thread or anywhere, It's all over the Development section, Just flash it via Odin, I assume by this point you know how to use Odin? If you don't it's all good, I'm willing to help you with that too
I took the liberty of uploading CWM recovery for you,

Cheers,

Edit: Oh good lord, I just realized since you don't have CWM you can't get the PC to recognize the tab itself, silly me. Have you tried putting it into download mode and seeing if the tablet is detected in Odin?
PS: Do you know what Odin is?

I will definitely try this when I get home, I really appreciate your help on this issue. Last time I tried using Odin in download mode, the PC would not connect but I will retry it later with these directions.

Ah no worries mate, it's all good I gain user knowledge like this Experience being the wisest mans weapon, they say
I think a combo of sdk/ADB and samsung drivers are enough to see odin. (if i remember right) Connected to odin without cwm many times before development. Uninstall any samsung applications and drivers(if applicable and separate from apps) Reinstall samsung drivers via installing "Kies", then install SDK... this combo should allow Odin to see your device. Odin is a samsung program licensed to samsung and therefor should not require root access or CWM.
If i remember correctly... sorry been quite a while
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/what-is-adb-and-how-to-install-it-android/
Yeah guys it didn't work. Even when in download mode and the SDK thing, nothing is recognized.
I chatted with a Samsung service rep for like an hour, I swear this guy must have been a robot. He told me to do what everyone else on this forum told me to do and it didn't work. He just told me to file a service request....yeah no.
I called this guy a magnificent bastard and my homeboy, and he didn't even give back the slightest emotion
Well, unless someone else can help me, I'm getting an iPad 3....I'll stick to Androids for my phone but going all Apple for my tablets. Getting sick of the sluggishness of Honeycomb, didn't even get to try ICS because of this issue.
Hey guys,
Not been on here for a while but just thought I would share possibly the worst and most frightening experience I have ever had with a Windows application that's designed to help a phone - Samsung KIES.
So Samsung KIES tells me I have an update. I tell it to update my phone. It begins to update my phone until my phone freezes during the update, and it did freeze, I left that thing for 2 hours and it stayed at the same percentage. Knowing that KIES can recover my phone, I removed the battery and booted it into the recovery mode that it automatically boots into when it detects an update failure. When I began the recovery on my KIES however, it completely fails to find the phone. The drivers are working, the laptop detects the phone however for some reason KIES cannot perform an emergency recovery.
So right now I'm sh*tting myself quite literally, I've just spent £500 on a phone that's bricked. So I reluctantly enable the 'Firmware Upgrade and Initialization' knowing that this will completely wipe all my device and send it back to factory default. So after the entire process has completely my phone boots up, only to have installed the latest firmware, kept all my applications and settings after KIES warning me multiple times that going through with an Upgrade and Initialization will completely wipe my phone of everything installed on it... Sorry, but is there something I am missing?
Feel free to comment and tell me if I'm completely blind and I've misread something, I just find it crazy that this is even possible. This is what it says just before commencing with the initialization.

As everyone who has ever owned a SGS2 will tell you, kies is ****, and there has been stories about this happening to many people. lots of close calls over the years.
Stick to odin!
Samsung Kies just sucks !
It takes backup of your apps, but wont recover them -.- WTF ?!?!?
if you're on this forum you would know to use Odin and not Kies

In KIES option is an option where you can close the application when you click on the X. Not Kies fault, but yours.

Do you have all the drivers installed in your pc ? Also, do you run kies as administrator ?

I've been trying to update my GS2 for the last 6 times and all the time ending up downloading around 900MB of **** and doing nothing
it downloads the firmware and hangs the phone by entering the DOWNLOADING mode. I've tried updating Kies each time and resulted in the same situation.
Anybody found a solution for this issue??

Try imageshark.us or imagevenue.com to upload to an url.
Or post as an attachment.
I think it's force download, flash any Stock ROM via Odin.

Forced download mode. Get a stock rom from Samfirmware & flash it with Odin (search XDA for instructions).
Edit - And while you might think it's urgent, people will help you when someone who is able to help reads your thread. Not before. Be patient once you make a thread.

sorry my bad....
i try flash with odin but it wont boot to download mode...
when i turn off and turn on again...it still same image appeare...
Keep trying to get into download mode. Turn phone off, hold power/home/volume down. If you still can't get into DL mode, try a jig. If you still can't get into DL mode even with a jig, service centre.

hold the button needed to go into odin mode and once the screen appears, try using odin. that happened to my phone once. i took my phone out in the middle of an odin update. the same screen appeared. i just put it back in and odin worked fine.
OP - I just realised something when I was outside having a smoke just now. The phone *is* already in download mode when you have those symbols on the screen (had a blonde moment earlier). It's just a matter of getting Odin to recognise the phone.
So....You need to try as many of the below steps as you need to in order to have Odin recognise the phone:-
*Must run Odin as administrator in Windoze.
*Ensure Kies & it's processes aren't running in Windoze task manager. Kill them if they are.
*Try different USB ports; you must be using a 'powered' or mainboard port.
*Try different USB cables (particularly the cable that came with the phone if you're not using it now)
*Try different versions of Odin (If you're using V3, use V1.3, and if that doesn't work use V1.85; search on here/Google)
*Uninstall Kies, reboot, redownload & reinstall it, reboot, try the flash again.
*Run Windoze Update.
And if all this fails, try a different PC. And if it won't work first time on another PC, go thru the above steps on that PC.
if odin doesn't recognize your device, maybe your PC doesn't have USB drivers installed.
I faced this problem when i tried to flash NeatROM but failed, and I want to get it back with the older kernel using odin, but my laptop doesn't recognize the device. I have tried different ports, but still the same.
I got the solutions by reading this thread, and finally getting directed to THIS THREAD.
- Download SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.exe, and install it on your PC.
- Open ODIN whatever version and plug your device (at this point odin should recognize your device)
- flash the kernel you want
I hope my post will help
