odin is not working - Vibrant Themes and Apps

having problems with my vibrant and or odin. The issue with my phone is when i turn it on im in recovery mode it think. My options are reboot system now, reinstall packages, delete all user data, and delet cache data. I select reboot and then the screen goes black then it shows the vibrant logo then goes black again then the vibrant logo shows up again then it goes right back to the recovery mode again. I have done the reinstall packages but only showes that it cant open no such files. Now i did have a rom on here for a while i think it was the Nero rom. I then got stupid and tried to flash back to stock. That did not work. Ive tried Odin but keep getting a wierd pop up message right when i click start. Cant remeber what the message is but i think thats where the problem lies. Ive even tried it on my wifes laptop and get the same pop up. Thats where i think that it the phone and not Odin. Please help.

Hey try this to get into download mode.
Take out battery. Open up odin. Connect usb to phone and pc. Press up and down volume buttons firmly with one hand, reinsert battery with second hand. Odin should recognize.

Had this problem too, samsung says hold down volume and power but that doesnt work, what ALWAYS works for me is to hold both volume buttons down and plug in the mini usb. Itll skip the vibrant screen and go straight to the yellow triangle and download mode. Learned that on youtube

I can get it into download mode and odin does reconize it. I place the pit and pat files and then hit start and that where im getting the error message. Now I unzip the pit file but where I think its not right is the pat file I don't unzip that one is that correct. The youtube vid that I watched the pat file was a rar file (I think ) and what I have is tar file. Sorry if im confusing you im new to this.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App

Edit after seeing reply. Dont unzip anything. The pit file should just have the pit extension. And in the pda section should have the rom .tar in it. What rom are you trying to flash?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

Sorry its the pda file not pad. It does show up as a com port. Its windows 7.

I would still try opening odin by right clicking and running as administrator. Which rom are you using and what error do you get?

i was using Nero rom and now just trying to get back to stock. I did do a back up before putting on a new rom but the back up is where i started to see the recovery screen. The message is
a big red circle with and x and c:\user\nikki\decktop\odin_v1.0exe. And i know that this was not the place for my question but i never get any responses when i put my question on the other threads. If its a big problem i can repost on a defferent tread. This is my phone and it does not work because of what i did and now i have no phone so im a little bit mad. Thanks for any help im getting.

Sounds like an error with windows. Do you have any firewalls that would prevent programs from accessing usb ports? Also I would upgrade to a newer version of odin. 1.0 was very buggy. Check the bible sticky in the dev section for links.

Okay guys, so i tried restoring my phone back with odin' with the T959UVJFD file so i can restore to 2.1 and get root than install recovery, well i forgot to include the pit file with odin i also believe i hit repartion in odin so i only installed the pda file the phone reboots flashes the samsung symbol and goes back to the back battary symbol and just goes back a fourth ive tried reflashing with odin multible times with the pda and pit file from android 2.1 and no luck at all!!!!
So you can get into download mode? Can you get into recovery?

i can get in download mode just fine.
i havent been able to get into recovery at all
Maybe try flashing a different Odin file like Fishman's Bionix and see if that jars something loose. Maybe a change of files is all you need.
@Toast - he said he tried Odin a few times, so he can get into DLmode, I assume. I wonder if he flashes just the Pit file, if it would do anything. Maybe flash the Pit file alone and then flash the PDA and Pit file together after that. Jsut pulling straws here on that one but I would try my first suggestion though.

How does Odin act when your phone is connected to it in download mode?
As Woodrube stated, I would try a couple of his suggestions. Try a different USB port, preferably not one in front, but a hard mounted USB in back would he great. (Not a PCI addon).
I too suggest you try to flash an Odin image of fishmans bionix.
See where that takes us.
Edit: you answered most of this while I was waiting on my post to post.
Try grabbing that bionix ROM Odin file and flashing that.

i cant even boot up the phone now screen is completely black
When you try to get into download mode now, you might not get the yellow triagle/android with the shovel but make sure the Yellow Com button lights up in Odin. Might take you a few tries to get into DLmode now but once you do,
Fishman has multiple Odin images that can be used that alreayd have root and custom recovery included. Get one of those to boot up and you are good to go on to your next ROM.

If you are getting a "Phone.. ! ..Computer" image (seen above) when booting phone, yes, you are bricked but it is reversible! Just follow these steps...
Make sure you have ODIN OPEN with admin privileges!
1.) Take off your back cover, remove your sim & mirco sd card.
2.) Remove your battery.
Make sure you have the USB plugged into your PC but NOT your phone!
3.) Hold the volume buttons.
4.) Put the battery in.
5.) Put the USB in.
You don't necessarily need the download mode image to be present. As long as you are getting the COM ID to light up yellow in ODIN, just flash back to stock like normal.

Edit:: Just to rule this out and I by no means want this to reflect badly, but your signature says At&t GS3. Did you flash to correct PIT file for the Vibrant? Just wondering bc there is no reason it should be hardbricked by just flashing files through Odin unless the bootloader got corrupted, whcih you didn't touch those.

Well, its possible that it is/will get into download mode and the screen still stay off.. it can look dead as a field mouse and still work in Odin.
Just keep trying
Pull battery, button combo for download mode plug in and see if Odin will finally see it. Then flash Fishmans Bionix w/ his Odin files. I don't see really how you could be bricked for any long term or anything.

Hey guys, so on fishmans odin pda as soon as odin finishes the phone, does not go to recovery like it says, in the direction it just goes straight to the battery!

Galaxy Player 3.6 YP-GS1 stays on screen upgrade??

Good evening friends, dev and other community members, recently my galaxy player connect to computer for music happen all good so far, when I go back to check if I end up spending the entire music encounter the following message on the screen of the Galaxy Player "Firmware Upgrade Encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again"
Do not let me enter recovery mode and when I can go to download mode and give the up volume key returns to the same screen, besides the samsung kies does not recognize it, I should clarify that this model only has physical volume buttons and power.
It would be helpful and useful if anyone knows how to fix this error.
Thanks in advance :good:
Well, I don't see how this is development for one. But concerning your problem, it sounds odd. Are you saying that it won't even let you enter download mode? Does your player even boot, or is it bricked? Have you tried to see if you can enter recovery mode?

I know and I apologize I think is not the right section for this question.
When trying to enter download mode goes indeed to ask you to continue pressing the volume up again the same screen, I can not enter recovery mode falls on the same screen and not a brick if the galaxy player.
I let you capture the screen, please respond and apologize to the trouble my friend.:good:

Ik this is kind of a late answer, but odin should be able to reflash the device, and if not, try rebooting the computer to see if you can get it to work again. That's how i got mine to turn on..But the dang touchscreen still doesn't work
Major Problem
Hi guys. I notice it has been a while since anyone posted anything in this thread, but today I encountered a serious problem. My Galaxy Player is stuck in the same position as the one mentioned in this thread, but I reached it in a different way. I was trying to flash the rooted ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1864741 : I have the US Version) using odin, and I followed all the steps. While doing it, Odin said it had failed, then I got the "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue" screen on my player. I can't enter download mode and my computer doesn't recognize it. The few times it does, it just says "Connecting.." in Kies and won't go past that. I've looked everywhere and couldn't find anything that works. Is there anything I can do? I feel like its just a soft brick but I really don't know. Please help.
I randomly get this while using heimdall to flash the cwm kernel. I just flash again until it works. The firmware error is the same as Odin download mode as far as I can tell.

hold the button needed to go into odin mode and once the screen appears, try using odin. that happened to my phone once. i took my phone out in the middle of an odin update. the same screen appeared. i just put it back in and odin worked fine.
OP - I just realised something when I was outside having a smoke just now. The phone *is* already in download mode when you have those symbols on the screen (had a blonde moment earlier). It's just a matter of getting Odin to recognise the phone.
So....You need to try as many of the below steps as you need to in order to have Odin recognise the phone:-
*Must run Odin as administrator in Windoze.
*Ensure Kies & it's processes aren't running in Windoze task manager. Kill them if they are.
*Try different USB ports; you must be using a 'powered' or mainboard port.
*Try different USB cables (particularly the cable that came with the phone if you're not using it now)
*Try different versions of Odin (If you're using V3, use V1.3, and if that doesn't work use V1.85; search on here/Google)
*Uninstall Kies, reboot, redownload & reinstall it, reboot, try the flash again.
*Run Windoze Update.
And if all this fails, try a different PC. And if it won't work first time on another PC, go thru the above steps on that PC.
if odin doesn't recognize your device, maybe your PC doesn't have USB drivers installed.
I faced this problem when i tried to flash NeatROM but failed, and I want to get it back with the older kernel using odin, but my laptop doesn't recognize the device. I have tried different ports, but still the same.
I got the solutions by reading this thread, and finally getting directed to THIS THREAD.
- Download SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.exe, and install it on your PC.
- Open ODIN whatever version and plug your device (at this point odin should recognize your device)
- flash the kernel you want
I hope my post will help

[Q] I9300 nearly dead - any hope for me?

I will try to make a long story short. A couple of weeks ago I connected my I9300 international (bought in France) to a Macbook Air using Kies. Kies froze and I closed it, and disconnected the phone. I soon found out that the phone was not working, apparently because Kies had started an upgrade that never finished.
I reconnected the phone to the Macbook+Kies, but this did not recgonize the phone any more. After reading a lot from the internet, I realized
1. When I turn on the phone, I get a striped blank screen
2. I could not put the phone in recovery mode
3. I still can get to the download screen
Note that this phone was NOT rooted, and had the original firmware, Android 4.1.1.
Since then, I tried everything I could find on the net. In summary,
1. tried to flash a stock ROM using Odin, but I get a message saying that "there is no PIT partition"
2. I then tried to flash a PIT file. But Odin stops at "get PIT for mapping..." and nothing else happens
3. Also tried the S3 Toolkit, but it will not list the serial and apparently does not recognize the phone
I have read all I could find, and ran short of ideas. Could anyone help me please??? :crying:
maybe this will help.
Still no joy

3. Downloaded Odin 3.07 again
4. Dowloaded the 3-part firmware as indicated by SirKunon
5. Loaded Odin with mx.pit, code, csc and modem files
6. Connected the phone in dowload mode, drivers were installed, got the "Added" msg and blue ID:COM square
7. Clicked start and got stuck again at "Get PIT for mapping" - see image below
I repeated from 5, now using another USB port. Drivers loaded again, and now I said I did not want Windows to look for drivers on the web. It installed local drivers. I crossed fingers, hit start, got stuck.
Any furter ideas???

Thanks for the relevant link. I read it all, almost like a dramatic soap opera, every chapter rising in tension. Well, this is what I did.

never checked re-partition while flashing via odin! try unchecking it!
^ he was flashing a pit file. . It needs to be on.
Damaged nand probably.. go to a service center and explain the kies situation , never ever mention odin.

1. Go to service center.
2. Play as if you were a normal person (we on XDA are special )
3. NEVER MENTION ANYHING ABOUT ROOTING, XDA OR ANDROID DEVELOPING, REMEMBER YOU ARE TRYING TO BE LIKE A NORMAL PERSON.
4. Mention KIES accident if asked what happened.
5. Get free repair and have fun, not your fault anyway
Additional steps for future:
6. Don't buy a Samsung phone again if you ever thing (buy a Sony/Sony Ericsson or Nexus)

Thanks, bennycop. Tried your unbrick, but did not work. Even after installing drivers it did not help. Next step, Samsung service.
And thanks a lot to all that made suggestions, including never buying Samsung phone again. But I did notice that you have an S3!
That would be stupid, if they didn't fix it for free. I see your point. But if they do, why would you never buy a Samsung phone again ? I loved the LG suggestion though. You will certainly .. love.. the ... Experience xD

My other phone is an R800i Xperia Play.
It never had any problems at all at any point. No firmware bugs. No errors. Completely open source (good for devs) Sony Ericsson gives devs support as well (remember when they sent FreeXperiaProject 11 Xperia phones in 2011 for FREE just for them to develop Cyanogenmod)
The only problem EVER on the xPlay is the flex cable, because it is between the sliders if one hits the floor with the phone too violently (literally throws it as hard as possibly) or if you keep sliding it out as hard and quick as you can. If the flex cable disconnects then you would have problem (you would not see screen, touchscreen would not work or it would only work under charger)
And for the play it has such a nice and beautiful community in XDA where everyone literally helps each other and has respect for others and they are just nice.
For example:
Developer Sdojoin made music controls on lock screen for multiple ROMs and which can be easily ported into any other ROM as well. (Vokal 1992 adapted it)
I shared a rom with my custom AC!D Sound MOD v5 for Gingerbread (this was before AC!D Gingerbread official which came 4 months later)
Anyway enough Xperia Banter, we're in Samsung area.
BTW. One developer here that had an Xperia 2011 phone here is themer ThilinaC, I'm sure he still likes it A LOT.

[Q] Soft Bricked?

Alright. My current phone I was using broke (screen cracked) and I decided to use my old phone, the Droid Razr to get me by until I get a new phone. My Razr was previously rooted on JB when I left it a few years back. It works fine, except it was running slow. It had bootstrap and Safestrap installed. I'm pretty sure at the original time of getting JB on the razr, you had to use bootstrap first and then switch to Safestrap since its safer? However, I forgot this at the time. I wanted to try clearing the cache on the phone to see if it sped it up. However, I guess I uninstalled safestrap and switched it to bootstrap because i used the bootstrap recovery out of ignorance. When I turn on the phone, I get the "Encryption Unsuccessful" message.
I've tried doing the format option it gives but it just restarts the same every time. I've done some researching and it appears I've soft bricked it. I've been reading that the only way to fix it is by using fastboot to wipe the phone to factory settings. I have all the necessary files to do so. I've been working on this for about two days now. However, fastboot does not seem to recognize my phone. I have the drivers installed. When I plug it in normally when it is not in fastboot mode, my PC shows the XT912 under hardware plugged in via USB. But when I put it in fastboot mode, it does not recognize it and it isn't shown in my ADB devices list. What do I do here? I really need this phone to work and I am willing to do whatever it takes to it. I don't care if I have to wipe it/lose root any of that. Please help me. Im not one to make threads of issues that others have but no one elses thread has helped me.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm using Windows 8.1. I did what you asked, and when I turned my phone on after re-installing the drivers, it installed the device normally. It shows this in device manager.
