[Q] Overclocking kernel - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I own a GTi9300 4.1.2 XXEMC2 rooted but still on stock (didn't find any advantage in any custom ROM so far) i rooted it using CFautoroot.. I didn't install CMW yet using ROM manager, but im willing to once i find a kernel that will let me overclock my phone.
So any adviced Kernel that will work on my phone to overclock? Currently SetCpu only allows me to underclock :/.
Thanks in advancee
N. B: I DONT OWN A MEMORY CARD IN CASE ITS NEEDED TO FLASH A KERNEL

check the development section for compatible kernels. all of them allow OC

Siyah Kernel up to 1.8 GHz. What app is great is stweaks it allows to select how many cores u wanna use also has a build in sound equalizer and many other cool things. But u need Siyah kernel installed for it to work.
Siyah kernel link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709686[KERNEL][01APR][JB][SAMMY&CM] SiyahKernel S3 v1.9.1

[SOLVED] Confusion with SiyahKernel

Ok I am really confused about this. So I just rooted my new Galaxy S II I got (the CF method using ODIN) and I was considering installing Cyanogenmod. However I changed my mind when I decided I could put a kernel on the stock instead. Now when I read thread for the kernel (as well as going to the website) it says it includes CWM touch Recovery with gesture support. Now does this mean when I flash the kernel with the recovery I got from rooting, it will also flash over the current recovery to the touch one? If I get OTA updates and apply them, will it remove the kernel and my root access? Also I am wondering has anyone had problems with this kernel?
Thanks for all the help.
Ainslie.
1) If you flash Siyah, it will overwrite/replace the current version of recovery you have, yes.
2) If you flash any stock firmware (including OTA updates), yes, of course you'll lose root. Any update will have a new stock kernel which will replace your existing kernel. If you do an update, you'll need to re-root your phone.
3) I've been using Siyah since about the 2nd week I got my phone (>8 mths) both Gingerbread & ICS and I've never had any major problems with it.
In saying that, obviously your experience with a given rom or kernel will not be exactly the same as someone else, because everyone has their phone setup differently/uses it differently.
So do a Nandroid backup in CWRecovery before you try Siyah, and if you don't like it, restore your backup. If you're going to use Siyah, I very much recommend you read the dev & discussion threads (certainly since Gokhan has been doing ICS builds at least). Any questions once you've installed it/started using it, ask them in the discussion thread (not the dev thread).
Ah cool thanks.
Also just one more questions.
When the new recovery is flashed with the ROM will the CF-ROOT custom CWM app work with it? Or will I have to download ClockworkMod from the Play Store?

Hi,
When u install siyah kernel, it includes the cwm app with the kernel. And the app is the same app you get in the cf- root kernel.
Siyah kernel is by far superior to cf-root. If you set it up right, you can get much better battery life. And it is so smooth. I would recommend that u use siyah..
Cheers

Wrote thanks! One more question how do you undervolt it so you get better battery life?

If you have siyah kernel installed, you can download an application from the play store called "extweaks"
If you open that you will find the option to under volt the cpu

Ps
And also, if you want really good battery life, go in to cwm recovery, go to "kernel specific options" and click on "battery optimised" that will set everything to get you the best battery life.
Cheers

You need custom kernel. But dont have any custom kernel to work with JB what you can overclock.
Enviado do meu GT-I9300
use an o/c kernel.....no I won't suggest one
Go to development and read
As far as im aware omega 23 is custom stock rom. JB ect.
to unlock overclocking you would need a a new boot.img withunlocked overclocking
that wont be out for JB roms until the source is released.
You would have to install a earlier rom if you want to use a costom boot.img with unlock overclock.

What Kernel does that ROM come with? Is it the STOCK kernel? If so, you CANNOT overclock the STOCK kernel at all and can only overclock CUSTOM Kernels that have that ability built into them.
More info from you is needed...
It seems the JB Rom from Omega doesnt have this overclocking unlocked

there won't be any o/c kernels until Samsung release their source code after jb official release

[Q]Doubts Regarding Kernal

Hi all...
2 days back i unlocked my bootloader
Now i have FXP 137 Kernal and using Jelly venila based on CM10.. but Prior to that i took a nandroid backup with Rage kernal and Stock ICS 4.0.4 with .431 firmware..
*Now if i restore the backup will kernal also be restored or simply the Rom???
*All kernals work on any roms or is there any limitation in it??
*Can kernals be flashed with phone itself (like flashing custom ROMS in CWM) without needing pc???
*Are there other Recoveries like CWM ? if so what is their advantage ?
*after a full wipe/factory reset, can recovery be accessed just by flasing kernal only?
*Clocking depends on kernal or Rom or both??
sorry for asking too many questions..these are in head..
i would be realy grateful if anyone answere these....
thanks in Advance

*No kernel won't be restored, you will have to flash it manually
*Not all kernels are working, check the thread of the rom, which kernel is recommend!
*You need a pc and the easiest way to flash the kernel is via flashtool
*Yes, for example Amon Ra, but I don't know if it's available for our devices...
*Yes, most custom kernels have cwm built in, so you can enter even after factory reset or after formatting /system
*Overclocking depends on kernel as far as I know, but it's dangerous and your phone could brick (overheating, etc)
If something is wrong, correct me

thanks for the quick reply ..
*kernal must be flashed first or Rom?? or it doesnt matters??
*what is governer & what is the safe limit for overclocking ST15i?? & how to find it??
if a similar ST15i is overclocked at xx GH in yy kernal and zz Rom that means my ST15i can also be overclocked at xx GH in yy kernal and zz rom ??? Or it depends on model ???

*it dosen't matter. Personally I flash the kernel prior to flashing the rom.
*Governor is basically a setting for managing the frequency of your processor depending on different values in different governors (try googling about different governors like- smartass, ondemand, lagfree etc). In my opinion you shouldn't go above 1.4 Ghz, you can go above this setting but your battery efficiency will drop and also you risk the chance of burning your processor. Your phone should be overclockable to that value but I have read somewhere that each chip is special to a phone.
I feel that 1.2 Ghz is a safe value for my phone and is fast enough for me. You can try it youself by downloading no frills cpu control from playstore and setting your desired frequencies.

[Q] cant overclock CPU

ok so I rooted my Galaxy S2 I9100 phone by flashing jeboo_kernel_i9100_v1-2a.tar and im using android 4.1.2 ...i cant overclock my CPU to 1.5Gz!...
I am confused that i need different kernel in order to overclock my phone by watching youtube video..
I am just worried if i flash with that kernel needed for SET CPU ..will this unroot my phone? or it keeps the phone as it is rooted??

don't think that that kernel allows o/c (i may be wrong) look at the thread for that kernel... i'm using 2.1 and think the link is in my signature. Flashing any custom kernel will give you root by default unless otherwise stated by the dev. so you won't lose root access by flashing another kernel. There are other kernels too look around there usually top of the thread because there really popular. Good luck

ok so if i update my kernel to jeboo_kernel_v2.1 CWM to my galaxy S2 I9100 running android 4.1.2..will that allow me to overlclock..im worried because when i tried last time all applications stopped working that needed rooting access..so that doesnt affect my rooting apps right ?
You would have to read the thread as to weather you can o/c and how far. Im not sure. As for root apps issue you shouldnt have any although they may need su access granting again.

[Q] Stock Kernel

Hello.
Can anyone help? I installed custom Dorimanx kernel over stock 4.1.2.
Now I don't like it, it was working smoother with the stock kernel...
Can anyone tell me how to uninstall Dorimanx kernel? Or tell me where I can find stock kernel for this version "I9100XWLSS"?
I did not backup... I did not expect the custom kernel to be so... :|
Thank you.
AdBlock Plus
And can anyone tell me how to make the phone work with AdBlock Plus for Android? The app needs to set a network proxy and proxy port. But if you do that, some apps can't connect to the internet.
I saw on a Sony that ABP didn't require any proxy or other settings, and it was working perfectly fine...

I'm not sure if there's a stock kernel out there flashable through cwm. I think in order to get back to stock kernel u need to flash ur stock rom again.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...ives/rom-deodexed-stock-samsung-roms-t2139353
Here u can find your rom.
But honestly I'd suggest u stick with custom kernel, if u don't like dorimanx I'd suggest speedmod kernel or better apollo kernel.

Are you sure this isn't just a simple Custom Recovery with Root? If I install this, will it also overwrite the Custom Kernel, or just the Custom Recovery and Root?
@gsstudios: Ok, I installed Philz Custom Recovery "with" kernel based on "stock", and I see it fixed the other issue too. Now AdBlock Plus doesn't require additional proxy settings, it blocks ads on every connection without them.
Though I still have 2 apps I can't get rid of... I don't want to rewrite the entire firmware, so I deactivated them.
Thank you!
