[Q] Stock Kernel - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello.
Can anyone help? I installed custom Dorimanx kernel over stock 4.1.2.
Now I don't like it, it was working smoother with the stock kernel...
Can anyone tell me how to uninstall Dorimanx kernel? Or tell me where I can find stock kernel for this version "I9100XWLSS"?
I did not backup... I did not expect the custom kernel to be so... :|
Thank you.

AdBlock Plus
And can anyone tell me how to make the phone work with AdBlock Plus for Android? The app needs to set a network proxy and proxy port. But if you do that, some apps can't connect to the internet.
I saw on a Sony that ABP didn't require any proxy or other settings, and it was working perfectly fine...

I'm not sure if there's a stock kernel out there flashable through cwm. I think in order to get back to stock kernel u need to flash ur stock rom again.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...ives/rom-deodexed-stock-samsung-roms-t2139353
Here u can find your rom.
But honestly I'd suggest u stick with custom kernel, if u don't like dorimanx I'd suggest speedmod kernel or better apollo kernel.

Try using philz kernels. http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...lz-cwm6-stock-kernel-cwm6-root-exfat-t1877270

Are you sure this isn't just a simple Custom Recovery with Root? If I install this, will it also overwrite the Custom Kernel, or just the Custom Recovery and Root?

@gsstudios: Ok, I installed Philz Custom Recovery "with" kernel based on "stock", and I see it fixed the other issue too. Now AdBlock Plus doesn't require additional proxy settings, it blocks ads on every connection without them.
Though I still have 2 apps I can't get rid of... I don't want to rewrite the entire firmware, so I deactivated them.
Thank you!

[Q] How to Update CF-ROOT?

I'm running the latest version of the Resurrection remix, I rooted it before using CF-ROOT which was CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEN_LP7-v5.4-CWM5. I used the official rom before, then used that CF-ROOT then installed Resurrection remix.
Now when I go into CWM manager it says This version of CWM manager should be used with cf-root v5.0 or newer. but I'm sure I rooted with version 5.4. What should I do to fix it? Everything works fine its just this is nagging me
Would I be able to re-root it as normally and keep my ROM?
A new Rom implements a new Kernel
i dont know which one Resureection uses all i know its a AOKP Rom.
You can try CF Root but i dont know if it Supports AOKP Roms.
Well check your Phone info in Settings it should say which Kernel is used atm.

My kernel is 3.036-FLUXI-XX.02, what should I do in regards to the error? Basically my CF-ROOT needs the latest version, anything that could be done? Thank you.
So you are not on CF Root anymore beacause Resurrection Rom flashed with Fluxi Kernel..
Well Fluxi should support CWM - but i dont know if its the same as in CF

If you flash a different kernel (in your case Fluxi Kernel), CWM Manager may remain installed. However, functions may not work, because they need kernel compatibility! Just flash Siyah Kernel 3.3.2 & CWM Manager will recognize it again...cheers

Any idea why System UI keeps crashing when I try and plug my phone into my PC?

[Q] I need a Kernel with netfilter/iptables support

Hello guys.
I was using an older ICS rom when switched after about 4 months to Resurrection Remic ICS/JB. Im failry satisfied with the Rom but my problem is, i cant use my ProxyDroid app cause it seems like the siyah Kernel (i dont know the exact number) has no netfilter enabled. Maybe someone can help me and tell me how i can enable netilfter in that Kernel or find me another one stable Kernel for my i9100 with netfilter/iptables support, thank you in advance. :good:

Well correct me if im wrong, but isnt that a GB kernel? i need a JB Kernel, and did i mention that i dont know how to recompile kernels?
You don't need custom kernel to make iptables work. Just use DroidWall app and make sure you have root access.

I tried that too, but somehow it did not work out. Well i went back to CM9 Nightly Build, cause ProxyDroid and OpenVPN works like a charm on 4.0.4. Thank you anyways for help, maybe there will be better kernels in the futer when samsung is releasing the original JB for SGS2.

Installing any ROM will install a kernel that comes with that ROM. Many ROMs comes with Siyah kernel either as Aroma Installer option or even as default...

Hi,
Yes, siyah kernel will be replaced by the kernel of custom rom, but it is not a problem at all. You can simple flash the siyah kernel again after flash your custom rom.
Cheers,

[Q] Loading Custom Rom

I rooted my S2 GT-I9100 to hopefully get around and never have a possible BrickBug issue.
I have:
S2 GT-I9100
Android version 4.1.2
Rooted: Kernel version [email protected] #57
Build # JZ054K.I9100XWLSD
So now I have this done, and from what I am understanding, the brick bug will not effect me since I am past stock 4.0.4 recovery.
So now if I wish to load custom Rom, with (Using FREE ROM Manager v5.5.2.3) I installed while non rooted in android 4.1.2 or Using the one Siyah loaded when I rooted? (CWM Manager v3.15)which is the right one to go with to load a custom rom? I am assuming the one Siyah loaded with the "Stock Kernel", like these 2 roms CM, and Aokp. Looked and find no device listed for GT-I9100. on the sites that serve the packages. Enlighten me please.
Your right 4.0.4 is the only brick bug software. Dont use rom manager or any other app to flash a custom rom. Use cwm recovery to do that.

OK, thanks! Now what Rom? I like CM, and aokp, but both dont seem to list my device.... How would I locate a rom that fits my device? I like the aspects of both roms mentioned because they allow customization, and they are well known.

No CM for S2 ? Impossible.Search.BTW,I recommend you a custom stock ROM.Best stabily and battery life, and good overall performance.BTW,if you want very big and good customization,go with Biftor ROM V12 and Biftor Aroma Mod V5.

Before or after the loading of a new rom? Is it a rooted kernel?
Look, since you have a rooted device (GT I9100 right?), you can flash a rom through CWM. Choose some YOU like, because it's personal.
Afterwards you CAN choose to flash another kernel, but it's not a must. Choose one you like, again.

Custom Recovery or How to make nandroid backup for stock XXMS7 Jellybean rooted

I searched a lot but nothing found. On Gingerbread I had no problems. Now on Jellbean there is a problem. CWM gives bootloop and PhilZ kernels are for specified roms, which actually don't match my kernel XXMS7 XEO. Is there any other way to make nandroid backup or just through custom recovery? I don't need any other functionality just full backup in case I screw something or occasionally refresh everything with all set up.

Did you try dorimanx by GreekDragon or Chhapil?
And I think that you may flash latest Philz kernel cause I did it and had no problem.... But try using dorimanx and also there's another option... Apolo by pedestre....
PS this is a development thread... Questions must be asked in question answer forum
JB Kernels
Here's the link to the kernels I use for my S2
Apolo Kernel - Here (Thread here)
Dorimanx by @GreekDragon Here (Thread Here)
Philz XWMS3 Kernel Here
How about Jeboo kernel? Are these three kernels above match XXMS7 rom?

As per what I know, if you're on Stock Jellybean GT I9100 then they should work... I've not used jeboo and hence don't have idea about it
There is no way i can experiment. I just need to know what will exactly work with my firmware as i can't loose anything set up on my phone. So, i need working kernel, custom recovery and be able to make a nandroid backup without any risk of bootloop or whatever, then i may experiment.

If you have already rooted then use titaniumbackup to backup your apps and data....additionally you can use third party apps like superbackup to backup contacts call logs and sms...then you should have your important stuffs backed up....then flash Apolo kernel...you should be done....
