[Q] How to Update CF-ROOT? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm running the latest version of the Resurrection remix, I rooted it before using CF-ROOT which was CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEN_LP7-v5.4-CWM5. I used the official rom before, then used that CF-ROOT then installed Resurrection remix.
Now when I go into CWM manager it says This version of CWM manager should be used with cf-root v5.0 or newer. but I'm sure I rooted with version 5.4. What should I do to fix it? Everything works fine its just this is nagging me
Would I be able to re-root it as normally and keep my ROM?

A new Rom implements a new Kernel
i dont know which one Resureection uses all i know its a AOKP Rom.
You can try CF Root but i dont know if it Supports AOKP Roms.
Well check your Phone info in Settings it should say which Kernel is used atm.

My kernel is 3.036-FLUXI-XX.02, what should I do in regards to the error? Basically my CF-ROOT needs the latest version, anything that could be done? Thank you.

So you are not on CF Root anymore beacause Resurrection Rom flashed with Fluxi Kernel..
Well Fluxi should support CWM - but i dont know if its the same as in CF

If you flash a different kernel (in your case Fluxi Kernel), CWM Manager may remain installed. However, functions may not work, because they need kernel compatibility! Just flash Siyah Kernel 3.3.2 & CWM Manager will recognize it again...cheers

Hi mate,
Is Resurrection Remix the ROM or the Kernel? I'll try this Siyah now What will actually change?
Thank you! :victory:

Resurrection is the ROM
just in case, this one is for SGS2 ;-) http://www.gokhanmoral.com/gm/2012/06/12/siyahkernel-sgs2-v3-3-2/

Congratulations mate, You just add beauty (Siyah) to the beast (RR ROM)

Any idea why System UI keeps crashing when I try and plug my phone into my PC?

[Q] Lite'ning Rom v.5.0 XXKG6 + Nimphetamine 2.0.5

Hello,
I haven't find anything like an instruction for this.
I actually have the Lite'ning Rom 5.0 XXKG6 on my SGS2, but how can I get that special Kernel on that Rom?
And does that "magical" Kernel really make the batterylife better like many people report?
And does that Kernel work good with the Lite'ning Rom?
Doesnt it work?

As far as i know Litening Rom once used Ninphetamin kernel. Dont know if it still does. Ask in the respective thread or try it urself.
ask here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1095274
urself: Do a backup of ur rom via cwm. Install kernel. See if it works. For kernel install see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179814

[Q] About flashing Siyah kernel

Just one short question so I dont do something stupid: do I need to do some kind of procedure or anything before I flash Siyah 3.0.1.? The phone has ALL stock software and settings and hasn't been tampered like this in any way as its only several days old.
Thanks in advance.
bad move. 3.0.1 is for ics rom. You are likely to be on gingerbread.

If you have not installed CWM, you can just install it via Odin. Also make sure that you actually have ICS (android 4.XX) installed on your phone or it wont work.
Just to confirm, you have the i9100? Not the US T-mobile version of SGS2?

Yeah I'm on Gingerbread, all stock. Should I flash 3.0 instead?
And I still dont know is there something to do, some kind of procedure or something before the flashing.
Here it says it already needs to be rooted before the flash...

do not install that siyah 3 kernel if you are still on gingerbread. You have 2 options. Install siyah 2.6.14 for gingerbread, or upgrade your current rom to ICS and then install siyah 3.
So, for example I could go with Speedmod or CfRoot, flash some Ics rom(Miui for example) and then flash Siyah?
If you want to stay on gingerbread and use siyah, use siyah 2.6.14 or lower. If you want to go to ICS, use siyah 3.0 or higher. It's that simple. 2.6.x only works on gingerbread, and 3.x only works on ICS.
just flash recovery

If its brand new and stock, first root (zergrush method), flash CF-Root using odin, get ClockWorkMod (using rom manager from market).
After that you can go ahead and flash any ICS rom but first backup everything.
So backup contacts (I just go to contacts and from menu use export to SD card), sms (using any sms backup app from market), all the apps you would like to save for later use with Titanium Backup (free addition is fine).
Also do a back for your stock rom in recovery (I suppose you can do that even before rooting - but I did it after I rooted and got CF-Root kernel).
Hope it helps.
Thanks a lot!
But doesnt Cf Root already come with CWM?
And is this the right method?

That guy is great, but what's creating a confusion about Siyah is FAQ on his page:
Q: Does this kernel work on XXXXXX-ROM?
A: If the ROM is based on Samsung Stock ICS Rom LPQ or newer, it should. Otherwise, search the thread... If you cannot find any reference to that ROM, try the kernel. You won't lose anything by trying this kernel. Worst case scenario is to reflash your previous kernel or ROM. You can backup your previous kernel with Hellcat's k-tool from the market.
So, I tried with 3.0 on my GB 2.3.4., and it didn't work, so I had to flash old kernel.
The reason I want to use Siyah is dual-boot, which it should provide.
Another problem is that ICS comes very slowly.
Siyah V3 doesn't work with Gingerbread roms. It's an ICS kernel. Try Siyah 2.6.14, that's the GB version (look for the thread in the dev section).
I'm still so confused about all of this and can't decide what to do. In addition, there is no cf-root for my kernel(BOKK1).
From the CFRoot thread "What if there is no matching download ? Try finding the closest match." & "The XX and OXA identifiers are not that important" (in your case the BO).

Siyah Kernel up to 3.01 (which is for ICS as you are already told) up to now does not support dual boot! Its only a placeholder till now in CWM. It may support dual boot in future but not now.

well u can install cm10, but not with rom manager but thro CWM recovery, since rom manager has some issues.
the stock kernel that comes with the rom is really good.
in order to check ur kernel go to Systemsettings>about phone and under kernel version u see ur kernel

Firstly: Please give more detailed information (which kernel do you use, which ROM did you use before the problem occurred?)
Secondly: It is possible that you can't acess recovery mode anymore when flashing new updates. Happens with CM 10.2 OTA Update right now. The solution would be to flash a new recovery using Heimdall (Open-Source ODIN alternative) [Didn't try that, but should theoretically work] or, mor simple, a new kernel. Dorimany v9.34 is suited perfectly for that. Download here: http://dorimanx.shine.sk/ .

Yeah but even if I dont want to flash an update, just boot recovery, I cant. Have you any link to know about Heimdall? Or how to install Dorimany? Im a beginner I have to say.

You installed a Kernel while rooting your phone: Its the .tar that you have to put into the PDA section in ODIN. There are Kernels with .tar and .zip: .tar files are only flashable using Odin while .zip files are flashed using the recovery just like you flash ROMs. I guess your Kernel is a custom CM Kernel (CM for Cyanogen Mod). Carbon ROM is probably based on CM. There is currently no other workaround to get your recovery back then flashing a new kernel/recovery. I am currently working on an easy workaround for this problem, but it will take a while.
Dorimanx is downloadable here http://dorimanx.shine.sk/ and should be compatible: Just flash it like you did when rooting your phone in the beginning, just with Dorimanx .tar in PDA. Recovery should work again afterwards.
My mistake: It's Dorimanx, not Dorimany
Hit Thanks and just ask if you need additional help!

1. Yes you should
2. Not right now, maybe in the future, flashing recovery.img using Heimdall would probably help, but I didn't try it myself and using Heimdall is quite complex
3. In General: The newest .tar (9.34/8.34) as you can't use .zip files
When you want to use Stock Samsung ROM: Version 8
When you want to use CM/AOKP based ROM: Version 9
Remember: No ICS Support!

I agree, the problem results of the ROM: But you have to flash dorimanx after carbon because carbon replaces the current kernel with its own CM custom Kernel. It should work just fine with carbon when it's flashed after installing carbon.

[Q] Stock Kernel

Hello.
Can anyone help? I installed custom Dorimanx kernel over stock 4.1.2.
Now I don't like it, it was working smoother with the stock kernel...
Can anyone tell me how to uninstall Dorimanx kernel? Or tell me where I can find stock kernel for this version "I9100XWLSS"?
I did not backup... I did not expect the custom kernel to be so... :|
Thank you.
AdBlock Plus
And can anyone tell me how to make the phone work with AdBlock Plus for Android? The app needs to set a network proxy and proxy port. But if you do that, some apps can't connect to the internet.
I saw on a Sony that ABP didn't require any proxy or other settings, and it was working perfectly fine...

I'm not sure if there's a stock kernel out there flashable through cwm. I think in order to get back to stock kernel u need to flash ur stock rom again.

Here u can find your rom.
But honestly I'd suggest u stick with custom kernel, if u don't like dorimanx I'd suggest speedmod kernel or better apollo kernel.

Are you sure this isn't just a simple Custom Recovery with Root? If I install this, will it also overwrite the Custom Kernel, or just the Custom Recovery and Root?
@gsstudios: Ok, I installed Philz Custom Recovery "with" kernel based on "stock", and I see it fixed the other issue too. Now AdBlock Plus doesn't require additional proxy settings, it blocks ads on every connection without them.
Though I still have 2 apps I can't get rid of... I don't want to rewrite the entire firmware, so I deactivated them.
Thank you!
