Hello.
I am trying to Root my Sony Tablet S and ive come across a problem on the AiO application.
Once it passes the first stage, it wants me to go to my tablet and hit restore device.
Once the restore starts, it automatically stops and says "restore ended"
There is an option to enter a "device encryption password"
Could this be why the restore wont complete/start
And if so, what is the password? i never set up a password for this device.?
Also ive just discovered that this has been updated to 4.0.3 relase5a. Do i need to do the flash rom method through AiO?
Thanks in advance
Releasa 5a cant been rooted

I thought you could root it with the same exploit as the Jelly Bean root for the XTS. Is that JB only?

Its JB only, since its an exploit of the v3 kernel, which is in JB only.

You have to re-do the rescue backdoor this is a must then try again.
but thats something you do "Before" you update your tablet from 3.2.1.r2
but you said your on ICS already so its possible that you dont have a root-able kernel for now.
Hum...

The All in One tool can't do anything for you if you've lost root.
You must wait for a kernel or tablet S exploit able to gain root under Sony's ICS...
Translation:
It seems there is no way to directly root 4.0.4 now, you have to root it in 2.3 and use OTA rootkeeper to restore root after you flashed 4.0.4
Sent from my XT910 using XDA
For right now, this is correct, but 4.0.4 has been directly rooted successfully as of yesterday by djrbliss.
I expect we will see a new exploit released very soon!

The latest firmware update available for the Sony Tablet S is Android 4.0.3r5a, which is rootable using Condi's S.onyTablet.S [ALLinONE] Tool. At this time, there is no Jelly Bean update available or planned for the Sony Tablet S. Also, in the future, avoid being rude when asking strangers to do something for you.

You should not use capital letters because it sounds like you're yelling or demanding response
Also there's a lot of post talking about rooting and fw versions but....
1. For rooting use the AIO tool by condi like Cat McGowan said
This tool have the option to root any fw version of the STS
2. About all your data I recommend you make a backup of everything, in my case when I rooted mine my data was intact but as always do this procedure at your own risk
3. About overclocking kernel, we have locked bootloader so there's no way to do that even no custom roms
Regards!

Before using Condi's AiO tool, make sure you have the ADB drivers installed and working on your computer, and USB debugging enabled on your tablet.
BluechipJ's Automated ADB Driver Installer for Sony Tablet S and P
To enable USB debugging on Sony Tablet S, go into the tablet's Settings > Developer options > and set USB debugging to ON (checked).

I understand after going through Condi's post that I can root my STS. However it is still not clear if I can load a custom rom after rooting it? I like to install JB 4.1.2 on my Sony Tablet S.
Thanks for your prompt replies

kernal version 3.0.8
build number: fj_vortex-userdebug 4.0.3 IML74K eng. Zjd1.20120717.193313 test-keys
I rooted my Xperia L-LT221 with this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2023756. Basically, it does this with a Flashtool:
- Flash 6.1.B.0.599_Kernel via FlashTool
- Reboot then run Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry
- Flash 6.1.1.B.1.75_Kernel via FlashTool
I have root, because Titanium Backup works.
Now I am trying to UNROOT the phone. I connected the phone to my PC and run Flashtool. Selected Root --> Unroot and I was prompted that my device was "NOT ROOTED".
How can I unroot the phone? I am trying to go back to factory state.
Model: LT22i
Android: 4.0.4

Not realy clear what are you trying to do.
You can flash stock ROM and lose all settings and some data (call log, contacts, messages, settings etc.)
Or you can delete su binary and app.
Why do you want to unroot?

Basically, goes back to factory state. The phone is still on 4.0.4 and I believe the root stop ANY OTA, since I haven't received any updates for JB from Sony.
So I can flash stock ROM using FlashTool? Where can I get the stock ROM?
It only stops updates if you unlock bootloader. Yes you can upgrade with flashtool. Just google Xperia P 6.2.A.1.100 ftf

I didn't unlock the boot loader. As a matter of fact, the link to root above is ONLY for locked boot loader.
However, I never get OTA update, so something is causing this. Thus, I want to go back to factory state to make sure they're is no other surprises.
Um @lanwarrior you can always flash it with flashtool?? No need for such a big trouble.

Could be there is no update for your region or no OTA anyway.
Install PC Companion and see if you got updates.

Good point. Mine is the international version though, so it is not tied to any particular region.
Looks like I have to use the generic world version?
@lanwarrior I can only find the Central Europe but i think that should be fine.

Thank you. Is there an identifier in the serial or build number that can identify which region the phone comes from? Samsung have this.

There is none. I have SuperUser v3.0.7, the old one from back in...err..2012? This is not SuperSU.
I did a factory reset (NOT FLASH ROM) on the phone, and this fix OTA thing. After factory reset, I immediately get notice that there is an update for my phone (6.2.A.0.400).
Now I just cannot remove SuperUser!

Search for the stock ROM on XDA( the same one you are using) and flash using flashtool (Search and you will find tutorials). This will unroot your phone and remove SuperSU.
If you want to keep your SMS, call logs etc, use a backup app from Google Play.
