Wow - this forum is huge
Although I am new to Samsung Galaxy S3 I am prepared to work for it. I just don't want to start flashing unstable files. Which is why I thought I would ask here first.
Question
I have just purchased a Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300 and I have rooted it yesterday via Odin and in my apps I can now see CWM V3.60 and SuperSU Now I am looking for some advice please?
What is Cyanogen 10.1? I have been reading about it but don't fully understand? is it for installing Roms that supersedes Samsung software 4.1.2? and is there a safe tutorial you can point me to?
Also I want to get rid of the bloatware on this device can anyone please point me in the right direction of how I go about doing this?

The bloatware thread in Themes and Apps or flash a custom rom with bloatware removed .
Best to read all the faqs and guides before starting .

Hiya guys,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 that I got this week. Im finding the phone is brilliant to use at the moment and works very well. It's alot better for me to use this device that it was when I had my previous phone which was an iPhone (don't shoot me)...
Anyway here we are. I've had the phone 4 days and i'm wanting to root it. The main reason for this is that I hate bloatwear. Samsung have filled it with all their own specific software that they find useful and I don't want that. All I want is a lovely OS with no Samsung to worry about etc.
Right a little about what i'm wanting. Ok so the phone is a Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100. The andoid version is 2.3.4, the Baseband is I9100XXKI1 and the Build is GINGERBREAD.
Im basically wanting to install the exact same version of Gingerbread but without all the bloatwear. Is this possible? Im completely new to this so any guides and tutorials that you can point me to would be brilliant. Is there anything I should be wary of when rooting my phone etc.
I have been looking around on the net and from what I can see Cyanogen M7 seems to be the same version as what im on now other than you don't get the touchwiz.
Any help would be brilliant on where to start.
If there are any questions then please ask.
Regards,
Just freeze the bloat yourself, rather than trying to find a ROM with it removed.
Root via zergRush, freeze bloat with one of the apps on the market.
However, if you do go down the CM7 route, just follow the instructions on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1176411
Other things to look out for. If any instructions are telling you to make a nandroid backup, do it, and back up your efs folder. You can use Hellcat's kTool for that.
Ok thanks for your post. So i guess my next question is What is Rooting and what does it actually do to your phone?
Do I need to root my phone in order to install new Roms??
Also the link to the M7 *Nightly* release you gave me. Is that stable? I read on their forums that I should only look at installing their *Stable* release and be wary of their *Nightly* release as its still buggy.
Since your first post said you were wanting to root, I kinda thought you'd know why. Bad assumption on my part, I know.
Anyway, before you flood the place with more questions, have a read for a while.
FAQS/Guide/Additional Info For Rooting S2 - High level summary
[FAQ] GT-i9100 Galaxy S II FAQ thread
Also, there is no so called "stable" CM7 build for the Samsung Galaxy S II.
Hi again.
Ok so I've had a read through the links provided to me and Im positive i want to root my device so that i can install new roms and unlock the phone and such. So next then can someone suggest what method i should do next. could someone also tell me what cf-root and clockworkmod is? Im confused as to what these are.
Regards
CF will give you root and clockwork, you can then reboot into clockwork and flash roms. Just make sure you read everything thoroughly and be sure to avoid the repartition option in odin.

Thanks but could you explain to me what they both do? Im assuming that its better to use cf-root as it allows you to install roms also...

hello everyone, i really need help in rooting and flashing custom roms in my galaxy s2 i9100g. the problem is that i cant find proper custom roms for my phone. i am capable of rooting my phone, its just a matter of finding the insecure kernel and flashing it then using superoneclick and then flashing the original kernel back in. but what would i benefit if i cant install custom roms. by the way. to install roms i need clockworkmod recovery right? please some1 help me i really want to do this and experience the full power of android
Thanks in advance =)
What you would benefit if you can't install custom roms? I you can't root your device with those guides that is here I suggest you to not root. You will probably end up bricking your phone.
And btw, searching google for it shows even more sites with guides..did you put any effort at all in trying to find out yourself or are you just lazy?

Cool story bro,...changed my life forever
Seems to me you already know how to root? Now are you asking for custom ROM for i9100g?
You can try CM first.

And I found you posted in the wrong forum. The following forum is for i9100g. Go dig there is better.

Hi Folks
I am indeed a noob as the intro video to xda states. I am also aware that this post will annoy some of you. But i would appreciate it if you could take some time answering this
I have a few questions regarding flashing before i go ahead with this. I would very much appreciate it if you could oblige me with some answrs to the questions listed below :-
My phone is Samsung Galaxy S3 international version ( gt - i9300 ).
1.Will flashing to the poland release of jellybean result in me losing my APNs for mms and internet ? And will I have to reset those after flashing ?
2.Does flashing mean i void my warranty ?
3.will I get any future samsung bug fixes/ firmware updates/ any other updates from samsung after flashing ? 2nd part to this question -- since i am flashing to poland release .. will i get future updates from samsung when poland gets it or I just wont get it period
4.I have heard that if I reset my phone's CSC to the correct region after flashing , I might be able to get future updates from Kies. Is this information correct ?
5.If I manually have to update via odin any future updates, please link me to specific room in xda forum where any updates will be available as they come through
6.Do i have to remove my SD card and Sim card while flashing with odin ?
7.Will I lose any data/contacts/customisations after flashing with JB ?
8.How do i do a complete backup of the phone other than kies backup ?
9.Is anyone ,who has already done this, experiencing any troubles after updating to JB ?
Any answers and will be highly appreciated
Void warranty, contacts just sync to google. Contacts should stay, but sync it anyway. In case.
Customisations, not sure which customising you're talking about. Homescreen set ups and app data should be intact, unless you wipe data through recovery or something.
In any case, root using the root methods provided, and do a nandroid backup in custom recovery. Backups up the entire phone (exc sd). If anything unsatisfactory, you can always restore. I used cf root to root the phone.
I'm in the uk and I've flashed the polish one, no problem whatsoever using internet. Haven't tried mms.
As for updates, sammobile.com posts all official firmwares on their site. I9300 general forum also has a post with any firmwares. I'm not sure about automatic updates but you'll probably get the firmware posted on the forums before you get any otas so I haven't had the need to check this.
You can keep your sdcard and sim in the phone when doing any of this. Had no problem using the phone after update.
Hope this clears any questions you had. Enjoy your jelly bean

few followup questions :-
1. I do not want to root my phone. Is there a way to do a complete system backup without rooting. If not can i flash it back to stock ics firmware if anything goes wrong?
2. Could you please link me to sam mobile firmware site you are referring to
3. will reflashing to stock ics unvoid the warranty ?
There are ways to un-root your device and make customizations nearly undetectable
If done correctly rooting and flashing your device has a pretty low possibility of hard-bricking your S3
Softbricks may occur but with Odin/Recover Menu you're prettymuch good to go

Your questions seem to have all been answered above, but I just want to add that in addition to a Nandroid backup, you should specifically back up your EFS and store it safely somewhere on your computer.
This contains your IMEI, and you will be seriously screwed if it gets messed up.
New Guide .

Thanks a lot. I flashed my phone this morning. I am pleased to inform that i did not lose any data or customizations ( homescreen widgets / apps orientation etc)
I'm glad you flashed without any problems. If you're worried about things like your APN settings, your contacts, your text messages, etc... you can use MyBackup Pro (which I use, you can use it with or without root) or Titanium Backup if you're rooted (which I've never used so I can't really speak about it).
Can I unroot my I9300?
Hey, I plan to root my S3.

Hi Galaxy S3 users, I want a basic help here.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300, and is new, came with ICS from factory and no root or custum kernel, nothing. Clean.
So, I want to have CMW Recovery and Root Access and a good 4.+ ROM (Some one that you think it's very stable and 100% functional)
So, easy uh? I'm an Android user and have many knowledge about LG Swfit, but this, is a new device, so I need some tips about "First Steps".
Thanks in advance. :good:

Hi guys. Im a fish here and I need some instructions. I was using CWM on my S3 mini and ive made a success, now I have bought S3 and I want to install http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/development/rom-smartdroid-v1-0-t2602543 . I need step-by-setp instructions how to run devil recovery and so on so on. I have S3 in stock, not rooted etc. Please help or send me to certain thread. Thanks alot!
Go read the sticky thread in general forum, CF autoroot then backup your efs. Install a custom recovery to flash your custom rom.
Follow the guides exactly, it's quite easy to brick these phones.
