[WP] Game distribution dilemma + ads situation - General Monetization

Hello,
I know that xda focuses mainly on android, but there are other platforms too
I'm curious about best methods of monetization Windows Phone application, and some info about market share, number of downloads and so on, because there is very few information about WP.
I'm currently preparing a XNA game, and think about ways to distribute it.
Info about the game : TD, 5 chapters, 8 levels in each chapter.
I can think of two options of distribution:
1) free (limited to 1 chapter and some ways to unlock half of second chapter + ads) + paid full version
2) full verison with trial option (trial with ads)
As far as I know IAP is rolled out because WP7 does not support it. First option sounds good but once a player go through chapter 1 in free version, hopefully decides to buy full version, have to go through first chapter once again ( because in WP7 you can not share info with other apps).
Solution to this is unlocking the whole first chapter, but then player can skip it and we don't want that.
Second scenario is in my opinion more dangerous because people do not download trials, and game has less exposure, but on the other hand it's easier to implement trail than crating 2 versions...
So witch approach would you use ? Or maybe you have different solution ?
As for Ads, which provider ? We have a free TD game witch was our codding battleground , about ~11k downloads (it is big number is cale of wp?) , implemented AdRotator using pubCenter,Smaato,Nax...and earned about 20$.... thats a joke...so we switched to AdDuplex.... Any comments about ads on wp?
TL;DR : Share your opinion about : free(limited + ads) + full vs full + trial (with ads) and ads situation on wp.

seriously, no one develops for wp ? :<

[Q] 3 monetization strategies for a music player app - which is best?

Hey guys I'm developing a new music player app and at this stage I can see 3 distinct paths to go down for monetizing it. I'd really like to hear from and get the opinion of developers who have tried similar methods with a similar type of app, and what sort of results they saw.
Here's what I'm thinking:
1. Have a free version and a paid "pro" version. The free version would be fully functional, have the core features of the app and be good enough for most people (i.e. it wouldn't be cripple-ware, think Evernote). The pro version would have some advanced/cool extra features that enthusiasts would like.
2. Have a fully functional limited-time trial version (e.g. a 15-30 day trial). After which the user would be prompted to upgrade to continue using it or just continually nagged each time they open the app. I've seen that a couple of the popular music players for android have gone with this (e.g. poweramp, n7 player).
3. Keep the app completely free for the time being, just worry about listening to feedback, improving the app and making it the best possible experience for users. Only start thinking about monetization once a critical mass of users has been reached.
No. 3 is the "facebook" approach to monetization - getting a lot of users with the hope of being bought out. I don't really think it's appropriate for a music player app because it's not a social product with "viral growth" built into it. It also relies on the app being hugely successful... and while I'd like to be optimistic, the odds are stacked against that happening.
The problem with 1. is currently there aren't that many advanced features in the app. I've also tried the free+paid version approach with another android app and the results were pretty appalling - the paid version had something like 1% of the users of the free version.
Ad banners aren't going to work because it's a music player - 99% of the time users won't see the app on screen to see the ads.
Any ideas or other avenues to consider? Cheers
In my opinion you should try to create fully functional player and then release 2 versions: free and paid. If you will release player with many bugs people faster delete it than they download it.

[Q] An Android Gingerbread App not working in later versions

Hi friends,
I need advice on a pressing issue I am facing right now about an android app I got developed through a freelancer.
I am webmaster of a website for numerology enthusiasts. On this website, we were offering a numerology calculator (basically a combination of html pages with some javascript embeded - all compiled in an .exe format) Later, on some suggestions, we decided to prepare an Android version of this tiny program by hiring a programmer of South India. It was 2011 and the Gingerbread was the prevalent Android platform. The programmer created the App and we published it on Android Market where it is still available on playstore (search for com.namecalculator.lite on playstore and the first result 'Your Lucky Name' is the app in question.)
The problem is that this was an app which was not compatible with the later version of Android. As such, after sometimes, when the ICS version of Android was launched, the app stopped working for ICS devices. As of now, except for some old Android devices, this App is useless.
When I contacted the guy who originally developed this App, he told that the source file of the Apps were not saved by him and as such, he expressed his inability to do anything about it. He told me that if I again wanted him to develop the app for later versions of Android (like ICS, Jellybean etc), I will have to pay him the full development fee as he will have to start again from scratch.
Since my website is only a hobbyist website with negligible revenue, it was not possible for me to again hire this programmer just to develop an upgraded version of the app.
As of now, a very popular part of my website (the app) has become unavailable for its intended users. In this background, I want guidance on the following:-
(1) If an App is already built for an earlier Android version, does making it compatible with future/latest version of Android require the same amount of energy and effort which was needed when the app was developed the first time?
(2) Since the App in question is basically a compilation of html files with some javascript embeded in some pages, will it be really difficult to reconstruct the app if the source file of earlier app has been lost ?(I still have the raw html pages with me)
(3) I am not a programmer but have experience of web-designing, creating blogs etc. Can I self taught myself to create the above mentioned app by reading and following the online tutorials ? If yes, what in your opinion is the expected time an average learner (with no programming background) can do it? Also kindly point me to some good tutorials.
(4) Any other advice on the above issue some of you might be having ?
Regards
Eklavya

Customizing a ROM for advertising purposes

We have a project where we would like to use android tablets as screens to display advertisement in several places ( I know advertisement sux , but we need to make this project )
We need to be able to 'push' advertisements to the devices when needed, over Wifi or mobile data
I'm looking for a ROM which would allow an app to run at boot time ( the adds play list ) , and play it , and would allow remote access to the device to update the adds and it's playing order
Does such ROM/APP exist commercially, or it needs to be developed from scratch ? We haven't settled on the tablet's plans yet, just pondering with the idea and cost involved to know if it's feasible or not
Any help / ideas are appreciated
Thanks to all

Create games Android - Stencyl VS Construct 2

Good morning everyone,
I've been creating mobile apps on android for a few months using appinventor2, for the moment i have put 3 apps online on the playstore and I'd like to test the creation of mobile games on android.
I've seen that there are programs like appinventor2 but more games oriented like: Stencyl and Construct 2.
Under Construct 2 it's possible to create nice games according to this tuto: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTbfxYclxjc
But I would like to have your opinion to know the limits of these 2 softwares or even another program.
What are the differences between Construct 2 and Stencyl ?
Which of the 2 would be the easiest to handle and is what you think it's a good tool to start creating games under android.
I also know that it is necessary to buy the premium version to unlock for "mobile" version which will be obligatory in my case because in the near future (if everything goes well) I would like to put my creations on the playstore.
Thank you for your help
Kind regards
Up
