How to come back to official android 4.2.2 ? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. I want to 1. delete everything on my phone like was on the day whe i bought it and 2. come back to official android 4.2.2 and get updates like before root. Now i have 4.2.2 XELKB Carbon. How can i do this ? And you thing official 4.2.2 ill be better then XELKB or whats different between this and official ?

There is no "official" android 4.2.2 for the S3 yet, you'd have to go back to 4.1.2.
Look for Odin guides on how to flash Official ROMs, they are all over the forum

Help me understand whats different between all of 4.1.2 here ( so many ) http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-I9300 and which i should choose ?

Going back to original state means unrooting your phone and installing your correct stock ROM. Go to sammobile.com download the correct stock ROM. I.e. was it branded before you rooted your phone? Or is it i9300 (unbranded international version). One you got your ROM download Odin. Don't worry about the versions for your stock or Odin. Turn your phone off. start Odin on PC. Connect your phone to PC put your phone in download mode (power+volume down+home). You'll see your phone connected in Odin. Select PDA in Odin. Then select the downloaded ROM from Sam mobile. Click start. It'll un root your phone and install the original ROM. Once installed you may need to go into recovery (volume up+home+power) and wipe cache. Once booted normal your phone will connect to internet and starts updating it self.
Caution: download the correct rom for your phone.
Run into any prob. Let us know here.

Also, I have read questions on how to completely wipe the phone..the MegaWipe zip will do it for you..just have a ROM to install on the ExtSdcard when you use it..
What if i dont have ext sd card ?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2

All stock roms are on sammobile.com
If you're in a country that doesn't natively have the GT-i9300, go for whatever the latest version available. Any of the european ones really.

If you don't have a exSdCard. Connect your phone to pc and upload into internal card.
For complete wipe I personally use twrp recovery. It has simple option of wiping things. Then also help to install anything you want. You can also find odin version of any rom you want as rootsu said above. But remember flashing rom increase your binary counter.and always read about the rom you want to flash if it is compatible with your phone model or you can end up with a brick.

sorry i am a noob
but i can get any original firmware or according to my region ?
i logged in to sam mobile and i found many firmwares choose any one of the ?
thanks for the reply
sam mobile should have the original firmware for your region. the latest and the older ones I believe. Any original and official firmware, even older ones should work fine. You could always update back to the latest official one using kies once your phone works again.
Alternatively you can check http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 for your region specific firmware. Just follow the intstruction of flashing with odin and it should be fine.

do i have to download the kernel ?/
The entire firmware info package you can download from the XDA thread has the kernel already. The Stock kernel download is just to reflash the kernel in say errors with kernels or if you flashed a CF-root kernel and want it back to original. Follow the instructions in the opening post regarding to flashing with Odin completely.

Awsome As long as you read the threads carefully over here on XDA regarding flashing roms and kernels and stuff you will do fine Just follow the instructions

My SGS3 is rooted. I just recieved an OTA update. But...!

The device will reboot to recovery mode (CWM) and do nothing.
I'm guessing the CWM is the problem here.
Is there any safe solution for this? I don't want to wipe or backup or anything if possible.
Is there a way to just reverse the root?

If you are rooted and you want to keep root delete FotaClient.apk and FWUpgrade.apk.in system/apps, you will not be bothered then with OTA`s.. For upgrades go to www.sammobile.com/firmware and flash the rom you downloaded with Odin v3 3.0.4.and reroot afterwards or flash with Mobile Odin Pro and keep root. See item 2 and 3 of my signature. Cheers mate from my high horse

Well, you obviously can't flash a stock FOTA with CWM, you need a stock recovery (Don't know why) and then you can flash FOTAs..
Try flashing firmware using Kies, or downloading it from http://sammobile.com/firmware and flash it with Odin. Both will work

[Q] Galaxy S3 Stock Rom

Hi Guys,
I was wondering if there is somehwere I can download the Official rom from.
I installed cyanogen mod 9 on my S3 using clockwork recovery mod and it wiped my backup.
I have tried sammobile but the problem is I need it for version: I9300XXLH1. I am located in Australia.
While on the topic, I have a friend who is using a S3. Could I possibly install CWM and copy a backup off his phone?
Please help, I miss all my features haha.
The official stock rom does not exist .
Many official roms .
CHECKFUS is probably your best method .
Could I possibly install CWM and copy a backup off his phone?
Probably .

Why don't you just flash the JB rom with Odin that was released yesterday.
After that, go into stock recovery and do a wipe data/factory reset and you're good to go.

About how much percent ODIN can fail in flashing rom to s3? Still didnt receive updates on KIES so i want to flash it via ODIN. Also how many time ddoes it take for ODIN to complete flashing??
Get the galaxy s3 toolkit. It includes odin and a copy of the stock recovery you can flash.
Flashing the recover with odin takes under a minute. Flashing a complete rom with odin takes about 5 minutes maximum.

0% fail if you follow the instruction
just need samsung kies (you need the usb driver, not kies because install samsung kies will automatically install the driver also)
and odin and the ROM (in .tar or .tarmd5, depends, confirm is end with .tar and put in pda
and take less than 10 minutes
flashed my s3 via mobile ODIN pro and it worked like a charm.....
Finally flashed my phone, but with mobile ODIN pro. My question is how to get the 4.2 camera on jelly bean 4.1.2 XXELKC. ? Thanx for all your help guys. ..
Flash a custom rom with the mod .
See Android Development Omega rom for one .
Or find the files and push them yourself to the custom rom .
Have a look in Themes and apps and see if its also posted as a standalone mod .

It depends upon the instructions for that rom you need to read them .
But CWM recovery flash is the norm for most custom roms .

Stock Recovery
If you just want the Stock Recovery for example for OTA, just flash the stockrecovery.tar via ODIN. Even I don't like using ODIN too much, but it's a million times better than Kies and easy to use. I personally recommend using ODIN on the PC if possible and avoid Mobile Odin. Mobile Odin is only if you don't have a PC or really need to do something on the go. It's a great app but don't use it all the time. And I'm not sure about this but I think by just flashing the Recovery you won't loose root nor Data, so you save a lot of time!
Only crappy thing with Odin is that it needs TAR and I don't know how to make those excpet with Toolbox. Does anybody know an easy way to make a flashable tar on windows without toolbox or cygwin (linux).

I've read about the "flashing mega bass beat option to s3" and it says
-- install zip from sdcard

-- wait for installation to complete
-- wipe cache partition

-- wipe fix permissions
The question is: what will happen if I didn't wipe the dalvik cache?
Do I really need to wipe it?

Bricked Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge International version (SM-G825F)

I need help to unbrick my phone. Here are the details of my phone and things I did before it became useless.
- Version: Updated version of Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Marshmallow Android 6.0.
- replaced its recovery with TWRP via odin (3.10.6)
- install a ROM with the use of TWRP recovery.
- After rooting my phone and flashing a new rom via TWRP, I can't use my phone's physical buttons.
I also tried full-wipe installation of Custom rom and I got the same issue. I tried restoring it to a stock rom, but it always says "Fail".
Do you guys have any suggestions how can I fix my phone?
Which rom did you flash?
What point in odin does it fail?
I take it you have G925F? Not G8.
Whats your region and what firmware did you try to flash (stock)

Thank you for your reply. Here are my answers:
-I flashed "CarHDRom" to my phone using TWRP 3.0.
- Yes, 825F is just a typo, G925F is the correct model name. I double checked it in the box.
- Philippines, and I already downloaded the firmware that you suggested in another post about softbricked g925F (G925FXXU3DPAD_G925FOXA3DPAD_XEU).

I suggest TWRP. Make a full Nandroid back up before just incase. But if anything goes wrong you can just flash that stock back to fix.
I would root first with cf autoroot.
Then flash your ROM.
Do a full wife when rom installer asks as this is safest way.
If it bootloops just wait.
Glad i can help
