[Q] Odin won't detect rom - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've downloaded everything I need to unroot my phone and get back to stock rom (I need to send my phone to get repaired :/), but the problem is Odin won't detect my rom file, even though it is a .tar file, I didn't get it from sammobile because my phone carrier's mod wasn't on it, nor was the regular country rom. but I found the latest version, on another forum.

Odin needs tar.md5 files. You got that one?

EFS Corrupt? Phone asking for SIM Card when SIM is already there!

Friends,
I have been having problems since I flashed XILA2 ROM. I was on XWKL1 earlier. In the first try of flashing XILA2, everything went smoothly and I was getting a good network signal of H+. But after rooting with CF root, I tried to do some mods with UOT Kitchen. The phone refused to boot after applying the UOT zip file in the Recovery mode. So I had to reflash the XILA2 Rom again via Odin.
Now the problem is that I am not getting any Network Signal after flashing the XILA2 ROM and the phone is asking me to "Insert a SIM card", even when the SIM card is already inserted in the phone.
So what should I do now to get my Network Signal back?
Did you flash a modem? Reflash the modem via Odin.

I flashed the Intratech file of XILA2 which includes modem, Multi CSC. You just need to flash that single Tar file of Intratech by putting it in the PDA. Have flashed dozens of Intratech ROMs before without this problem.
Now IMEI is showing as "Unknown", IMEI SV is Unknown, Service State is showing as Out of Service.
What is the problem?
Efs corruption.
Hope that you have a backup of your efs folder.

What exactly happened and what to do now?
Hey Seniors, Experts.....any solution?
Calling the Seniors & Experts on this forum.....My IMEI showing as Unknown. No Network. I'm told my EFS has been corrupted. So what's the solution now???
Do you have EFS backup?? as far as i read, there is no backup which you have mentioned........
one solution is to get your phone back to samsung service ...hopw its under warrenty...
not sure whether it works or not....but try flashing a orignal samsung firmware...

If you have no backup, you could try this tool, seems to have helped some people get there EFS's back without having a backup.

Thanks Veyka, but I am scared to use this tool as it gives warning that it might brick my phone. Wouldn't it be wiser to just take my phone to the Service Centre while it is still working and is on STOCK ROM XWKL1 as it is still under warranty?
Also will it help if I reflashed just the MODEM again? I have read on some forums that flashing Modem again worked for some people. Can somebody give me the link to download the Modem file for XWKL1

Flashing a modem wont help, if you have never rooted or flash any custom roms, then just take it to samsung or call your provider or whoever you got it from and tell them you lost service.
As you have flashed roms and mods and i imagine you have root, you might as well try the tool, It cant break the phone anymore than its allrdy broken.
And if the tool doesn't work, just flash back to stock, reset the flash counter with a USB jig and get it repaired under warranty, don't tell them about flashing custom roms, tell them it just happened.

Cool, will use that repair tool as a last resort. It will be pretty easy for me to invoke warranty so why go thru unnecessary trouble. Right now I just want to flash the Modem file as a last try. I have a file named MODEM_XWKL1.RAR which contains the file MODEM_XWKL1.BIN now all I want to know is which of these file is to be renamed and renamed to what for flashing via Odin???

Just send it off for warranty then, as flashing the modem will not fix a corrupt EFS.
And to flash via odin, rename it to modem.bin, shove it inside a .tar file and flash it in the modem slot.

What do u mean by "shove it inside a .tar file"....do you mean I can just change the name of the file from modem.bin TO modem.tar OR I have to compress the modem.bin file using some compression tool?
"flash it in the modem slot" ....... I guess you mean flash it in the PHONE slot, coz there is no slot named Modem in Odin. Right?
Thank you for your patience.
Thanks all for trying to help, but I guess I'll have to invoke warranty
Thanks a lot for your help, everyone, I really appreciate.
I tried flashing the modem.bin file by renaming it to modem.tar and putting it in the Phone slot, but it failed in Odin. The top left box of ODIN turns RED and says Fail. So I guess I have no option now but to take the phone back to the company.

How to switch back from I9100XXLP6 ## to 2.3.6?

Hello,
I just flashed with odin the new ICS firmware out on sammobile for sgs2 (I9100XXLP6 ##) which came with a file for PDA, for CSC and for Phone, but now that I am trying to flash again any 2.3.6. firmware I keep getting errors already at the start when associating my google account and stuff...
I assume that is because of the additional CSC and PHONE file that was included in I9100XXLP6 ## but I don´t know where to find the refering files for 2.3.6. firmwares since these only come with 1 file (for PDA)...
I would be glad for any help I can get
Hi,
Could you give more information about the errors? At what point do they occur? What errors do you get?
The csc files can be found somewhere on xda, use the search function. The file you need for the phone is called a modem, can also be found on xda.
Although I do not expect that this causes the errors, how did you restore? Did you while your phone and cache first?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
What 2.3.6 rom are u trying to flash on?
If the DL was dodgy it would cause problems, redownload and reflash
PIT: if included, also optional
PDA:Code
Phone:modem
CSC:multi csc
Did you do a full wipe?

Make sure you are back on the GB boot loaders and that you have done a full wipe.

greetings hello I commented that the same thing happened to me the only thing I do is flash with this version XWKK5
follow these steps:
1.Install again (XXLP6) completely.
2.turn off the phone and enter download mode and install the (XWKK5).
3. Once you install the XWKK5 completely. turn off the phone and go into recovery mode and perform the wipes
I hope to help and luck.
I hope you understand me and sorry but my English is a bit bad jejjee
I flashed this update, throuch odin, and now the phone will only boot into download mode or the screen that says to use kies recovery. The problem is, even though I can boot into download mode, the computer no longer recognizes my phone. No sounds when I plug it in or anything. If I plug a jig in, it will come on so it's not the port. Can someone help me?

You need a three part firmware, with modem, csc and pda, flash with pit and repartition, to do a full wipe. I think you used a non wipe firmware, that's the reason for the bugs.
Question
When you flashed the LP6, did you flash it with the .pit file too? I suggest you flash back to your stock ROM but you also have to flash a .pit file as well. This happened to me too when I flashed the KP8 ROM. I reflashed my stock ROM but it kept giving me errors at the initial boot. So I flashed my stock ROM again this time with the same .pit file. If I'm not mistaken it's this: u1_02_20110310_emmc_EXT4.pit

Did you get the 2.3.6 firmware? If not look at this thread from Infratech: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278. Have a good look at the section marked "Individual CSC Packages". Maybe this could help if you suspect a wrong CSC being the cause of your problem.

[Q] [Help] Samsung S2 - dont want custom rom - want to go back to stock

Hi guys,
Im having a difficult time finding out how i can get back to the nordic official samsung rom.
I have no idea what i should flash and if i need Odin or just use recovery..
So if there is a kind soul out there that can point me to the correct files, and explain it step by step, i will be forever gratefull!
Yes, I know there are some guides, and i have tried reading them.. But I dont want to **** this up, as I need the phone tomorrow for work :/
So, please, if you can help me, i will be very gratefull
Phone: Samsung Galaxy S2
Country: Norway
Check the model under the battery.
Go to sammobile.com and get your ROM for your region.
Or use checkfus downloader and get the ROM for Norway.
Also mind you, You can flash any region ROM for i9100 in your phone.

Should i use the PIT file?

Follow the flashing guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Chris.
No don't use pit, don't know how you get that.
Just extract the zip file you will get tar.md5, put it in pda under Odin.
Also the file you got is ics, just to let you know, if that matters.
So this is how i understand it after reading alot.
1. Unzip the I9100XXLPQ_I9100OXXLPD_NEE.zip
2. Open Odin 1.83
3. Choose the unzipped file I9100XXLPQ_I9100OXXLPD_I9100XXLPQ_HOME.tar.md5 as PDA.
4. Flash without ticking ANY of the options in Odin.
5. Sucess??
Can someone PLEASE confirm?

[Q] When using Odin to flash a stock rom should I use the original from the carrier?

I have a S5830M from telcel with the rom SGS3 V2. The phone has around 100mb of user occupied not by my apps I believe that's because I flashed the rom from an already in use stock without using odin first.
I want to use odin to flash stock to try and recover that lost space but I'm not sure which stock firmware should I use. I was able to find the original telcel rom after CheckFusDownloader_v2.1 failed to download it but I'd rather not use that one because it seems to have some features removed.
Could I use the pre-split rom provided on the flash guide or should I use the original telcel rom?
I'm not sure if I can use the pre-split rom because it was made for the S5830i model and I don't know if the stock roms are compatible across the i/M/C models

i have never used it..
so don't use it..
pit file is used for re-partitioning
use pit file only when system partition gets corrupt..
you can use pit file even when there is no need to...it won't harm your phone..
as far my research, s5830i = s5830m
so use the pit file from odin v3.07 (download it from rafael's skydrive..)

Thanks for your help. That's pretty much what I did. The flashing went without problem and I had the original rom running correctly, however it still had around 80mb of space without any apps installed so I guess the problem is the telcel rom itself. It doesn't surprise me much considering the quality I've come to expect from them.
I took the risk and flashed the S5830i stock and it went perfectly, it now displays the S5830i model at boot and everywhere else, but it's not a problem. So I can confirm that at least the model S5830M from telcel con be flashed with the S5830IXXLA4_S5830IOXXLA2_ATO_Repacked stock rom
I installed simplicity v5 over it and ended up with only 20mb of occupied space so I'm quite happy with how it turned out

Bricked Galaxy S4 GT-I9506

***Problem Solved***
Hi experts,
My Galaxy S4 GT-I9506 is bricked with this error:
image 1 (attached)
It doesn't go to recovery mode anymore now!!!
First I tried to install custom Rom to root it with Odin, it did seem fine with "green pass" but didn't actually install any recovery mode (there wasn't any install option in recovery mode, there were only update options), nothing happened to phone at all and it worked normal.
Second i wiped the phone and cache and I download the firmware from Samsung website.
and after try to install, it failed in Odin:
Images 2 & 3 (attached)
I'm not sure but I think it was a wrong firmware, because I bought my phone online (kogan.com i think it is in Hongkong) and I downloaded the Australia Vodafone firmware (as I'm using Vodafone sim card).
anyone can help me?!
I should mention that phone doesn't go to recovery mode, failed in Odin, Kies can not fix it! the drivers all are up to date and no Antivirus runs in my PC.
Please someone help me.
Thanks & regards
Tesius

Tks - I have tried many ROMs from different counties (other ROM or even Kernel, etc...) and upload does not seem to work in ODIN. When you find the right country ROM, did it suddenly work in ODIN?

yes, there are different operator in one country, first u have to find out in which operator of which country your phone is supported, then download the ROM from sammobile, make sure of using last version of Odin, and maybe it takes longer than u expects, for me last about 9min to get the Pass sign...
i had the same problem..so try downloading GT-I9506_501_Stock-Recovery_XXUDOF2 that file from internet and extract..and then flash it using odin..it worked for my s4 gti 9506...
