sorry
but what is the right forum?

Hi. The questions and answers section would be the best place for your post. And honestly there is no best rom. It would be rude to say one was better than another.
I say try three or four of them or all of them if you have time.
You should ask a mod to relocate this but likely someone already has.
I know whats its like to not know lol so no worries. But this is the development thread and nothing belongs here unless you created it.
Enjoy the flashing and remember to read before you flash.

Thread moved.
Please remember that the development section is only for threads on development.
Thread closed.
We also typically do not allow "best rom" threads because there is no one answer in most cases. Many users will have different views on this and it will often spark a pointless debate.
My suggestion to you is to make a backup and try a few ROMs for yourself.
Thank you

10 Posts first....

Am I understanding this correctly? I need to post 10 times in General or Q/A before I can post in Development thread?
I don't have any Q/A posts to create other than this and I don't have any general questions.
All I wanted to do was post to a thread that the Kernel is running great and no issues so far.
The only question I have is the following:
Should I post then new posts that are useless to get my count up
or
Post back to this thread I created 10 times?
I am leaning toward the latter but before I do I want to make sure I do not get anyones panties in a bunch. If this is an issue I'll just leave it as is and stick to reading.
If you just wanted to thank the dev who made the kernel, you could always just click the thanks button.

From my understanding of this forum, this isn't like other forums where you would post all questions and comments that are related to development in the development section. Since this is xda-DEVELOPERS they seem to assume that all questions are going to be related to development.
So all regular comments go in the General section, and all Questions go in the Q&A section. I believe they want you to post in the dev section only if you are developing something (a kernal, a rom, a mod like CWM).
If you want to report success on a specific rom or kernel, couldn't you just hit "reply" in the thread for that kernel? That's what I usually do.
Also, this will probably keep you from getting griped at by lots and lots of wannabe moderators (in addition to the real moderators).
Yea I know how u feel I'm on number 4 I think so this will be 5 half way there.

Questions belong in Q&A. Questions/problems on a specific ROM/KERNEL/MOD in the development forum belong in the thread related to what you have the question/problem with, not in a new topic. The development forum is for releases of stuff only, along with discussion in the same thread about said releases.
thanks for the clarification. one of these days i will get my 10 post in to thank all the hard working developers

Same here I was going to post in the developers kernel thread to provide feedback as it was new and they look for feedback.
This rule I can understand for new posts but for replying to existing posts I don't understand other than the fact you get a lot of people that post in wrong places all the time. However this will happen with this rule in place or not as they can reach ten posts pretty quickly.
Either way just found it an odd rule. Some forums do a "you must be a member for X days before you can post". This rule allows new members to do reading before they just start posting all over the joint. That one I understand.

Devs do check out the Q/A and general section too, so you dont have to post in their thread if you have a problem.
One good thing regarding the 10 post is that people wont post a thread with a question in the development section. A lot of people who accidentally post there says that their question has to do with development, and so they decided to post there instead of Q/A or general section. If people with a lot of posts still does this, by accident or not, imagine how much work mods will have to do if anyone can post there and is new to the forum.

First this is the dev forum and your not a dev nor dose your thread lead to anything that is under development or hasn't been developed the hell out of to where its not relevant anymore, second you asked a question >,> there is a Q&A section for I don't know questions and answers <,< last you admit that you found multiple guides in your last bit so.... do tell why is this development with over 400 posts..... FFS, you could have just answered the dudes question with one post without bumping the thread to the top all day long.
Now, THE ANSWER IS: there is no best way. It either works or it doesn't (either successfully gives your root or doesn't).
Having said that, the most bullet proof way according to people's feedback is the preinstal method, BUT... CWM method and gingerbreak also successfully worked for me both on 2.2.2 and on 2.3.4.
p.s. People on here are right. You only create new threads in Development section if you developed something. You could have just left a post in one of the root threads, or opened a question thread in Q/A forums.
Cheers.

SGS2 ATT Official Stock ROM 2.3.4

Hi,
I have been searching the forum for ATT Official 2.3.4 stock ROM. I am new to Android and planning to put in a Custom ROM in my SGS2. But before I do that, I wanted to have the Official ATT 2.3.4 ROM so that in case any issues I can flash that back. Also I did read about keeping the flash counter intact. I primarily want to be prepared before I start with it. Please share if there is a link available.
Thanks
Seriously? The Development forum is only 4 pages long and you're too lazy to even skim thread titles there?
I suggest you go back and read the XDA rules again. Search before posting.

Your reactive comment is really uncalled for. People are here to help, and they do not get paid to be here, but some find it a little tiring when people appear to ask questions before they even look for the answer.
I understand that to a new person, sometimes you don't even have a point of reference to know what you are looking for. What you need can be found in the development forum as "Unbrick/return to stock by Entropy512."
Also refer to the sticky topic "Library" in the development section, and the sticky topic "FAQ" in the general section.
Edit: OK I see you removed your reactive comment, so I removed it from the quote also.
My bad..sorry about the reactive comment.
I am a new user to Android and just moved from iPhone. I do appreciate the DEVS work and understand it is an extra responsibility for you.
I had rooted and unlocked my SGS2 but being extra cautious not to brick it when flashing the ROM. I maybe should have read through all the posts irrespective of the title

I tried searching, but a lot of times, its confusing on which Rom is actually the stock version which would return everything as before.
I looked at restoring the phone thread and couple of others which also say they are stock rom, hence the confusion.
There is no point in fighting. I got my answer, so its ok if people got mad at me for asking a question. They will forget about it in a couple of hours, and I will try to search a little more next time.

Above all this thread is useless. There a official thread about CM9 already, active, in the same section.
Considering flashing with CWM, I hope people try search by themselves before asking 'How do I flash?'
There are plenty of Howto.
'Should I wipe?' (and what wiping....)
I know we're not done with those endless same questions......

Don't play with words, I'm fed up with those endless duplicated threads in the Prime threads, people want to be OP instead of just posting in an existing thread, or don't even search before posting. I've even seen a guy asking for something that had been answered two posts above his... And I find Moderators are not present enough.
The more threads on same subjects you have, the more difficult it is to find relevant information, as search engine is not always accurate. And the more same basic questions are repeated without any obvious search effort, the more you risk to fed up devs.
Some devs have quit XDA because they couldn't work efficently in their threads, even in some more organized threads like Optimus 2X ones, at least 3 or 4 major devs gave up support in XDA because of that.
Some guys if you want to have devs for long time, keep posting in already opened threads (we are not here to have our 15 minutes of glory), search answers by yourself before asking always the same wuestions and so on....
And above all, this thread is not a dev thread, why posting here?

I think that most polite and helpful fellow was referring to the one labelled
"[ROM/WIP][Unofficial] CyanogenMod 9 for TF201"
...which covers a kang compiled by theeggman.
It must the the "official" Unofficial thread
While it is true this thread should not be in the dev section, I think the "official" unofficial one would fall into that category as well, unless either theeggman wrote CM9 or I misunderstand the link our helpful friend Striatum_bdr directed you towards - "If YOU DID NOT CREATE "it" THEN IT DOESN'T BELONG IN DEVELOPMENT"

You need to forgive him (or ignore him) he is French after all... or at least in France, which amount to the same thing.
Honestly, though, he has a point, he just has a crappy presentation of it. It's a problem across all forums, not just here... people don't want to search, they want to be spoonfed answers. Then they want to blame everyone else if something goes wrong, because it can't be their fault if they kinda, sorta, almost, followed the instructions they were too lazy to search for....
It's an ongoing theme here, and on other sites as well...

wtf??? are you crazy... this thread is right where it should be.
Personally, I'm glad there's a thread in the Development section letting me know about the official CM9 nightlies and I definitely don't think it belongs in the "unofficial" thread.
What I'd like to see is a more "complete" thread with the proper information like what's working/not working, screenshots, etc... and perhaps a title clearly indicating what it actually is.
I don't mind the thread but it would be more interesting if the Thread was maintained by whoever actually maintains the TF201.
That being said, thanks for the heads up. If the OP does a good job at maintaining the thread, what's the problem?
Anyone flashed this? Similar issues as the Kang with the Dock? I have yet to unlock/CMW/CM9 my tab, but will do in the next few days, curious to see how this runs...

Mods- Please Clarify General vs. Dev sections

There seems to be confusion about posting ROMs in General or Developers section. I just reported a post and fjasked that a "stock" ROM be moved from the Dev section to the General section because recently another Stock ROM was in fact moved with the reason that all stock ROMs belong in General. The response to my report was "this is a tough call I ll move it but it could stay in dev". So, that is a very non-committal answer from a mod. In addition, this post, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1184817, is an example of previous guidance on the subject. It clearly states that the Dev section is "only meant for very advanced technical discussion directly related to ROM development activity and the delivery of actual ROMs and ROM components ONLY". I would agree with this guidance. Can we stop differentiating between stock and no-stock ROMs and place ALL ROMs in the Dev section, as stated in the above guidance? Thank you for you work and time. XDA is a great place. I am not whining or complaining. I am merely asking for clarification of this issue so we can move on.
sec
um, your "question" for clarification belongs in the Q section. Not General.
Also, reading the Dev section I think it is pretty clear that it is for rom development only.
Stock roms aren't development...in this case it's a link to a leaked rom. that's it...doesn't belong in development.
So, if the Mod moved it to General it was done correctly.

I been on here for some time across at least 6 phones, and I've never heard of such or seen this done.
It should be like how normal 90% of XDA works!
ROM/Kernels in Dev no matter if its stock or custom! That's it no argument! I had only three phone couple of tablets but whatever forum i went to. THis is the theory they followed! Very simple idk what's big deal about it! IDK why this ppl don't like that!

Your first sentence made me lol. You're right but I thought maybe since it was asking about the General then it could go in the General. Maybe it will be moved. Whatever.
Your second point is the crux of my question. If you read the guidance that I referenced it does not discriminate against stock ROMs. All ROMs are development, as are all kernels and other code. Code can be developed, whether it is stock code or other. Or at least that what I think.
I am anxious to see what the Moderators have to say. They have been very quiet on this issue.

I agree with you, I've been here a while , thru a span of of six devices forums myself also(htc excalibur-tmo dash/htc tilt-kaiser/htc fuze-raphael/the first android OG "htc dream-Tmobile G1"/htc leo/hd2) and now here and all roms have always been in the rom development section, even stock roms that serve as base for custom roms are part of development .
I have been frequenting this site since my PPC6600 and all ROMs official or otherwise have been in a development section of some type. That goes back 5 + years (a very long time in tech years)
I don't know if that means anything to anyone, but us old guys don't like change =P.

Stock ROMs belong in General according to the rules. Not sure if they are enforced or not though.
I dunno why they changed the rule. Is it specific for AT&T Galaxy Note or in general? Because at least Captivate/i9000/i9100 section have 'stock ROM list' sticky on development section.

Stock ROMs belong in General according to the rules. Not sure if they are enforced or not though.

Madness.....
Even a mod agrees with us! We need to change this and put back all the stock stuff in dev section!

Stock or not a rom is developed at some point, I've always kept them in the dev section If someone is looking for a stock rom to load, they're going to check the dev area first not general, imo. Not saying you're wrong, just my thought.

But is a "leaked" Rom to be considered stock? Phones don't ship with them....

Leaked ROMs are still not something you made thus you aren't developing them, thus why would the go in development? I understand why people would want to put them there, but according to the rules, its not where they belong.
I really can't stand this! IF you really want to get this changed plz comment and let me know! Because i just don't like how this is going!

Lol, my vote would ba a mod (or eager poster) should compile one sticky of all stock and leaked roms into one sticky which can be posted at the top of the development section.

ACTUALLY
ACTUALLY, this post doesn't belong in Q&A...
It belongs in the MAIN GENERAL section... I'm just saying...
LOL
but yeah, the idea is stupid. they should change the rules...
Lol, who the hell cares? Just post it in one of the two and if a mod feels like moving it, let him. Personally I think any rom of any type should all go in one section so they're easy to find... but I'm not gonna cry about it if the mod wants it in general.
