One of 2 ways to SIM unlock your phone. call T-Mobile or find a site online that sells unlock codes. If the phone is still under contract you might have a hard time with T-Mobile unless you tell them your traveling and need to be able to use a different SIM.
cellunlock.net
http://www.cellunlock.net
they just did my motorola atrix only took a day to get the code, worked perfectly.
my contract was only 2 months old, service had already been disconnected for nonpayment, and i still owe at&t like $400 dollars, didnt matter.
and htc phones are on sale for only $20, my atrix was twice as much
edit-just remember the wireless bands at&t uses for data are different then for t-mobile (i forgot about that part, very expensive mistake...)
I would highly recommend using an eBay seller of unlock codes with feedback. You don't have to worry about getting screwed over because eBay covers you and plus sellers always have to worry about being left negative feedback.
Htcimeiunlock.com are very fast! I've used them with unlocking an Inspire and Sensation, took under ten mins for the code to return via email.
Cheers!

I just unlocked mine right now, last night I was on the phone with tmobile and told them "I will be leaving the country in 1 month since I am paying for the full retail price of the phone I would like to unlock it." And I wake up this morning with an email with my unlock code and instructions!!
So I inserted an att sim card and the fastest speed I saw was of about 1.5 mbps but most of the time it was like .9 so no data besides 2g edge.

I beleive the t mobile amaze has the required bands as well for At&t 850/1900 so you should be getting 4g.
To get 3g you have to mannually set up the apn.
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using XDA App
or flash quiksense automaticly detects it on install
Well I used my parents BlackBerry sim and dads iPhone sim but neither are 4g.
I later figured I had to set up the apn for att 3g but hadn't had time for that. And I and running your latest quick sense rom X.
So I'm guessing I have to have a 4g enabled sim card to get att 4g?

Can you buy these unlocked? Im still looking around to upgrade and ive been looking at a few different phones. AT&T is the best carrier in my area so id like to stick with them, but i dont like the phones they have. I know the Vivid is similar spec wise to this phone, but it doesn't look at good imo. (i dont like the square brick look)..
Why does AT&T not bring in the better looking phones :|
Yeah you can but if your gonna pay full retail price just call the carrier of the phone tell them you bought the phone itself and need to unlock it. Or by from someone on craigslist already unlocked

I have a friend who does it for $25 , let me know if you are willing to do it.

hua? you mean buy it From the carrier then have them unlock it?
I think you can do that but that's too much money. Your better off on craigslist and have it unlocked online.

that's because iphone's don't support 4g and i'm not sure about bb's but i think possibly only the newest and latest ones support 4g? (not sure)
but overall they only support 3g speed on at&t.
Furthermore, there was another thread where they said if you have an at&t data plan, you need to call in and tell them to update your data plan to a 4g data plan, it's no difference in cost, but apparently there is a boost in speed. Im not sure about that one because i'm on tmobile.
I honestly think that sim cards doesn't affect data speed.
@op who has not replied lol
if you're on at&t then call tmobile. They'll ask for your customer information, tell them you're not a customer but need to be directed to someone who can unlock their tmobile phone. Since you're not a customer, they will hassle you less because they won't be asking all these needless questions why you need it unlocked and etc, but they will probably try to get you to join them. anyways most of the times the rep will be happy to help you right away. But there are a few uhhh not so happy reps who will give you **** for it. If that happens, call again and talk to another rep. You have to remember there are people on the other side of the phone, most of the time the people will be glad to help.
I just got my HTC Amaze from my employee plan and now am not working for them so they gave me the unlock code but how can I get the At&t Apn settings?
search for AT&T APN. There are countless posts for this, they are pretty much similar. If you are using custom rom such as Bulletproof it will auto detect based on your sim card.

Or look at
FAQ for the HTC Amaze 4G. Read Frequently Asked Questions before you post a question! because there is a Q & A that says
Q - I unlocked my phone and I am using it on another carrier. Where can I get the settings for the Internet/MMS?
TMO unlock code
Usually TMO is pretty good about unlock code. If you have been with them for a while, it is easy. I bought my Amaze and got the unlock code the next few days. I was travelling and it worked great.
So I've been reading on these forums that some roms don't have gsm working. Can someone explain what gsm is and what it does? Sorry for noob question.

gsm = signal
without it there is no calls or texts
Or in other words, no calls or texting.
Ok thanks guys.

"Global System for Mobile Communications"
This technology uses a small SIM card to contain the mobile phone details such as your phone number & etc. This allows one to swap the SIM card into another phone and have it simply work. The SIM card can also store a limited number of phone numbers. The technology is used everywhere in the world, but only on AT&T and T-Mobile in America.

Not sure to understand since I'm not in those carrier and I can swap my SIM card into any other phone and it will still work. I'm in Canada and this works for any carrier for all I know. The SIM also contains phone numbers and can hold a bunch of SMS.

I forgot about the SMS storage. Your SIM card can be put into any other GSM phone. It could not be put into a Verizon phone, for example.
I got the deal from clover wireless, but I have a few questions before I receive it.
I heard that the AT&T One and T-Mobile One share the exact same hardware, is this true? It's the reason why I got the GNex, because I can use both Sims in the device.
If the hardware is the same, all I should have to do is just swap sim cards if I need to, correct?

That is correct, they are the same, as is the developer version. You will need to sim unlock it, but there is a thread for that, $3 on ebay.

just turn it on through straight talk they sell sims compatible for tmobile phones so you will still get 4g
If you are using Tmobile service we can just swap the sim card no problem

I don't think its that easy to swap sims, Idk trying to get it on the prepaid service but t mobile customer service told me they don't have micro sims for it that's why I wanted to know if I could cut the sim down like how prior did iPhones.

Yes, you can cut a standard SIM. I did just that. I am using the One with Tmos $30 pre paid plan.
Google SIM card template.
T-Mobile refused to sell me a micro sim unless I gt on a post paid plan, so I bought a T-Mobile SIM kit at Best Buy.

It it that easy. Just walk into the store with your sim card and ask them to give you a micro sim. Or do what I did, fail at cutting it and ask for a replacement.

Yes, cutting it should be fine. I did it for an unlocked AT&T iPhone 4 I used on T-Mobile that I used while saving up for a One. Just make sure you use a sharp knife and have some sharp scissors for adjustments.
I got this phone The AT&T Version of the HOX+ about a month ago off of ebay and I rooted it with no issues. I'm currently on viper ROM and love it.
My service is StragithTalk AT&T and I'm not liking the data anymore as it seems to be getting worse. I was going to move to MetroPCS (Tmobile based 4G Service) but I tried a trial SIM card and it said that my phone was locked.
How do I go about unlocking it? The guy at the MetroPCS store said he had a service that can do it for $40 but I figure I'd ask here before I commit to doing that.
Any ideas?
Thanks all!
You'll have to get a paid unlock there is no free ones out! $40 seems abit expensive but you'll be paying atleast $30 anywhere...

Thanks for the info! I didn't know if the $40 was a fair price or not... I didn't think there was a free way to do it. Once unlocked is it permanent? I would guess so but I figured I’d make sure.

Yeah once your unlocked it is permanent. You can flash roms ect with no issues. If i was you i'd look on ebay for the cheapest unlock methods.

Is it safe to do that sort of thing on ebay? They can't remotely hurt my phone or anything?
Also how would I do that while I have working service? I took the other sim card back, would I need a sim card for another provider to be able to put in the unlock code?
I used eBay to buy unlock codes before and it works. Also cheap.

You'll need another sim. The seller will provide you with an unlock code. Then you put the new sim in. Your phone will tell you your device is sim locked and give you the option to enter your unlock code
