I am getting ready to trade for a Note tomorrow and I stumbled upon something in the development section in the root guide. A guy said he couldn't get data to work and someone else responded with this "I was having the same problem & had to use the LTE SIM card & switch my unlimited 3G plan over to an unlimited LTE plan. After that, my data started working". Does this mean that my Red Pocket plan will not work with the AT&T version of the note? I have to have an LTE Sim? I have been wanting this phone forever and if this is true Any insight would be great. Thanks
Are you trading in person? Just let the Guy know you will need to verify it works with your RP sim first.

I'm having to drive almost 2 hours to get the phone. I really don't want to make the drive to find out it won't. I just called my local at&t and told them I was planning on purchasing one off contract from them and ask them if it had to have an LTE sim. He said he had never heard of red pocket but he did said yes...it has to have an LTE sim....****!
Did you verify that it had to have an lte sim to get lte service or that it had to have an lte sim to work period? Big difference and one the normal CS Rep wouldn't know.

According to the guy in post 172 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1504218&page=18 It won't work at all. I will try to call CS at AT&T and try to find out more info.
The person that I'm trading with also has an iphone and is going to try its sim card when she gets home. I will post the results so it may help someone else in the future.
It could. People are having problems connecting to AT&T without an AT&T LTE SIM, but that doesn't mean the phone rejects SIMs from other carriers.
The iPhone SIM probably won't work on her Note by the way for the same reason, it's still AT&T. You're much better off calling Red Pocket and seeing what they say.
EDIT: You might see if anyone here as activated their Note on T-Mo as well. If they have, then you can feel pretty confident it will work on Red Pocket because you know it will work on non-AT&T/LTE SIM cards.

Thats a thought. I didn't think people were getting t-mobile to work but I will check. I would rather take a bullet than to call Red Pocket but will try again. Thanks
Dude in the T-Mobile 3g thread has it unlocked but did not say if it was working or not. Can only assume it is because you would think he would have mentioned sim card errors.

Anyone on a prepaid service with the Note?
There is no such thing as an "lte sim" all of att sim cards are the same, however if you unlock it it shouldnt matter what service you have.....data speed is a differnt issue

Call AT&T and check the Android development section and supposedly there is a LTE sim. I don't have to "unlock" an AT&t phone for red pocket because it uses AT&T towers. I just read where you couldn't get data without a LTE sim on this phone and thats what I'm trying to find out. Not trying to be a **** but I'm driving an hour and a half for a hell of a trade for the Note and just don't want to waste my time...AND GAS!
I have the same sim i have had since my inspire, no such thing

Easiest way to tell is find a friend with any lte,or 4g if you get data it works or pop your sim into a floor model at a store but att telling you there is a special sim card is a lie

Hi,
I just got a new Note for my mom. She is coming from an iPhone 3gs. Do I need to get her a new SIM card? The customer service reps at AT&T said that I do not, but won't that mess up the speed of the phone and stuff like that? Just wondering.
Thanks,
Patti

It'll work , but not lte. I would get a new one. Of course they told me I needed a new one. At least At&t is consistent.
Yes, Lte requires an lte SIM, if you are in an lte area you'll need one to get the best speeds. If lte is not in your area yet you don't really need a new one.
All you need to do is look at the sim num and if its a 25 for 9th and 10th digit then ur good. If its less than that u need a new sim
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
My data wouldn't connect at all until I got an LTE sim. You can download the speed test app to confirm. Also, if you haven't modified it yet, the carrier badge will show what network you're connected to.

They tell you that you have to have the newer sim card no matter what, that is a load of crap. If you have an older simply you have to change the APN setting, but it will still work. Only thing that wouldn't work would be LTE

The 3GS used a standard sim card whereas the 4 and 4S use the micro, so it'd transfer over just fine

It is needed if you want to take advantage of all data speeds. Yeah you can aupposedly change your apn settings but not everyone who buys an lte phone knows about changing them. When 4g lte phones first came out so many people called in cuz they got new phones. Didnt want to use the new sim ao when the data plan was put to the correct one data still didnt work. Had them use the new sim and issue resolved. End of story

While we are on the topic of simcards (i figured better to ask here then make a new topic) I'm currently in the republic of Georgia and my host mother really likes my galaxy note. while Sam sung phones are very popular here the note is not here. if she was to buy a note online could be put a Georgian simcard in it? the guy at the at&t store before i left said something about the code not being unlocked yet or something so someone there would have to know what they are doing. i know there is a international version so if possible should she buy that person?
The international version comes unlocked meaning that it can use any sim card. I believe you can get it online for between 450 and 550 USD, but I've not looked at prices for a few months.

The inernational N7000 version is just a little bit different than at&t i717 on the capacitive buttons area. But other than that she won't see any difference. That would be a sweet gift.
Ok thanks for all the replies. From what I have been told, she can keep the 3GS card which fits just fine, and she can keep her old 250MB data plan for now since she barely used any of that data with the iPhone. But I'm suspecting now that she can actually see the screen and she has been playing around with this phone more in the past week than she has with the iPhone in the past 3 years, I better upgrade her soon. Oh, the reason she didn't get a new SIM card, is that this phone was an insurance replacement for my old phone. And I got a new phone in the mean time while waiting (S3). So we are both happy, but I miss my screen real estate!!!
Thanks,
Patti

XDA is no longer worth my time.
Hi guys I know this questioned has been asked before, but I can't seem to get all the answers I need. I plan on picking up a used S3 off of craigslist, and I need to know the requirements to get on Tmobiles $30 a month plan. I hear that you need a specific version of the S3 to get on Tmobile, I was told a sprint version would work? Also I read that you should be careful because the phone could have a bad ESN or something. As for the tmobile sim card, should I get it one of tmobiles prepaid phones or tmobiles site, i'm guessing the latter. (Micro sim right?)
You can also add me on skype. zSorun
Thanks guys
EDIT :Forgot to ask how you unlock the phone for tmobile
You would need the tmobile version of the s3. Or the international version. But im sure you couod get them unlocked either way.
But you need to find out if you can get it unlocked first or you may find you cant use the phone.

Ask in the sprint forum may give a different answer .

The US variants all work on different frequencies what you need to do is check what signal frequencies T-Mobile use, then check what the phone supports, the US variants are rarely compatible with the other networks though.

I can'at get any more specific with that question. LoL!!
I've been reading online, and I think it is, though I don't see it on the website. I figured it would come to Tmo, but eh...? Doesn't seem like it.
What about an unlocked AT&T one? Well... I wouldn't get an unlocked one. I don't want the phone that badly. LoL!!
I also feel I should put this. I searched this thread for the keyword "Tmobile" and nothing showed up. Just in case someone asks. =.P
Thanks for any answers!! =.D
No not yet im waiting to see if Tmobile will get it as well. I asked a few people at Tmo stores and they have no knowledge if they will even carey the phone.

While the idea is nice, I wanted to use my Tmo Jump option. LoL!! But it's in January, so newer phones will be coming out. I think I'll just wait and see what the HTC M8 (HTC One successor) will be. Supposedly it'll be a 5-inch device, though it won't be a phablet. Hmm...
How do you get the LTE for tmobile to work on The verizon Version?

What Straight Talk option... CDMA or GSM, the procedure is very different and of varying degree of difficulty...
CDMA (Verizon/Sprint) - need a donor ST phone, and clone the ESN/MEID, plus tweaks in the radio settings. Unlocked or S-OFF and root required, 3G data possible, no 4G
GSM (AT&T/T-Mobile) - Edge (2G, around ~220kb/s) data possible out of box with no changes to phone except change radio mode and add APN setting. 3G/4G possible on AT&T only with pretty in depth modification of radio settings and some prop.build file edits, this is still in the works for a walk-thru, this also would require an unlocked bootloader or S-OFF and root.

if you want i can guide you on how to get straight talk working via a sim card and get 3g and very soon to come 4g....i too use straight talk and am developing on enabling 4g for all carriers....if you go with a sim there is a very certain sim card you have to get
@REV3NT3CH are you making a guide for it? It's going to cost me over $500 to switch to my own Verizon contract so I may switch to ST until I save up enough money.

The method to move it to Straight Talk w/Verizon towers is the relatively the same as moving a Rezound to PagePlus, follow that tutorial except substitute a Straight Talk 3G smartphone (instead of a PP phone) as a donor and program the Rezound accordingly.
If AT&T has service in your area and you are not comfortable with the heavy modifications required to do that, I would recommend moving to GSM service... get a Straight Talk AT&T GSM SIM and go from there. AT&T is recommended over T-Mobile as the frequecies used for higher speed data on T-Mobile are not compatible with the Rezzy.
Why is it going to cost you $500 to get out of your current contract? Honestly, unless because of service coverage you are forced to Verizon, drop them completely... A good GSM smartphone with HSPA+ can be had for well under $150 used, a new Nexus 5 will set you back $350, and a Straight Talk/AIO Wireless/AT&T Go Phone SIM card will run you $45-$60 per month, saving $40-$60 per month, easily paying for the phone in a just a few months.
Well I'm getting off my parents line and getting my own. Considering my lack of credit, Verizon is going to charge $400 for a security deposit, along with the first months bill. If I want to buy a phone that is on there too ($199 but I'll get $100 back). I have considered a gsm company, but up here in the mountains, Verizon is basically monopoly. All the other carrier's coverage is hit and miss.

Actually, for that kind of money I would look at some of the ZTE, LG, or Samsung phones that Straight Talk has that are CDMA (Verizon) based, for under $200 you can get ST phone that will just work (sometimes using Verizon ST on a flashed phone isn't the most reliable for all services) with Jellybean. ZTE are not the best phones, but they are not crap either, a friend has the ZTE Solar and loves it... Plus you will still save $50/month over a traditional VZW plan.

The S3 is nice, but at $399 its a little steep, although you might be able to get one on eBay for around $320 or so. The ZTE Solar is $179 online, 4.5" display, dual core 1.2ghz, 768MB ram, and JB 4.1. Not super impressive, but acceptable.
EDIT: Nevermind... it seems the Straight Talk ZTE phones are all GSM, not Verizon based, it has a SIM card when I looked at my friends this morning. Guess I was barking up the wrong tree the whole time. :/
No problem, I appreciate the input! I wish st would get the S4 already

Ah... gotcha... Out of the box you will only get Edge, the radios in the Rezound are not tuned for US GSM frequencies.
HSPA(+) is possible in some instances with significant tweaks to the build.prop file and radio NV settings, not a procedure to be taken lightly... And the signal has to be really good or it won't work... I mean REALLY good... This is @REV3NT3CH area of expertise, I'll tag him and hopefully he can be of assistance.
