Tmobile $30 plan - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys I know this questioned has been asked before, but I can't seem to get all the answers I need. I plan on picking up a used S3 off of craigslist, and I need to know the requirements to get on Tmobiles $30 a month plan. I hear that you need a specific version of the S3 to get on Tmobile, I was told a sprint version would work? Also I read that you should be careful because the phone could have a bad ESN or something. As for the tmobile sim card, should I get it one of tmobiles prepaid phones or tmobiles site, i'm guessing the latter. (Micro sim right?)
You can also add me on skype. zSorun
Thanks guys
EDIT :Forgot to ask how you unlock the phone for tmobile

You would need the tmobile version of the s3. Or the international version. But im sure you couod get them unlocked either way.
But you need to find out if you can get it unlocked first or you may find you cant use the phone.

Ask in the sprint forum may give a different answer .

The US variants all work on different frequencies what you need to do is check what signal frequencies T-Mobile use, then check what the phone supports, the US variants are rarely compatible with the other networks though.

vibrant to verizon

I'm looking around and I'm curious if I can get a vibrant from tmobile to work on my verizon account somehow. Sorry for the lack of searching but I'm out and about at the moment.
No. Not ever. Sorry. Also post questions in Q&A.
I'm petty sure its impossible. The vibrant is a GSM phone and verizon runs on CDMA.

no. Verizon uses CDMA technology and Vibrant runs on GSM, also ur gonna get flamed cuz its in the wrong section.
No.. that's like trying to say can i install a intel processor on AM3 (AMD) socket. It's two different things and would never ever work.
+ had to join the crowd; wrong section.

The actual answer is yes, but not in the US of A - in Europe Vodafone is Verizon partner and it offers GSM service.

And have the widget redirected to Bing. I know you can root it and change it and all that but I still think its unfair to the users who aren't rooting. It's just absurd that they restrict things like this.
Also not a huge fan of Verizon's exclusive apps like Skype, NFL, etc. I know you could extract it in APK format and do it like that but it's not healthy to make exclusive apps.

Iam thinking that you can do it, but first you need to unlock your phone.. First you need an activated Tmobile sim card placed into vibrant to go to next steps... Second look into market searching for "samsung unlock" and install and run it..it will give you the unlock code that the phone will ask you when you replace your verizon sim card, so write down all the info... third turn off vibrand and replace tmobile sim with verizon one and boot the phone... Enter the unlock code that you get from step 2 and enjoy your new unlocked phone!!..
I dont try it yet because I dont have the need, but I think that it will help you ...

This post is incorrect. Verizon does not use sim cards. The method posted here will unlock your phone for other GSM service, but since Verizon is not GSM this will not work.
Also, I really am curious since it happens so often, how do people keep posting in development and claiming they are confused about where to post?
I'm not making fun of anyone, this is a serious question. There are two forums: one is labeled Q&A and one is labeled development. How is it possible so many people make this mistake?

Wow. Some of you people clearly should not be flashing anything to your phones.
I have seen some of the worlds stupidest people on a forum with some of the worlds smartest. If you don't know what qna means then put you fing diaper back and go back to first grade. I'm sick of all this non dev chat in the dev section. If you don't know what cdma and what GSM is then Google it. Don't give the I'm to lazy to search excuse cause that's a bunch of bull.
GSM: most of the world, att T-Mobile.
Cdma: Verizon and sprint.
If a phone is cdma it will not work on GSM. And vise versa.
Now stfu noobs and gtfo.

It's so simple. There are two completely different technologies in question here. Cdma which Verizon uses and gsm which t-mobile and at&t use(which is why I-phone works on t-mobile). And to set the record straight about sim cards,I have seen several black berrys with sim cards on Verizon.

Those ones for Verizon that have SIM cards are the world editions of the phones and can go outside of the USA and use a local carrier that uses SIM cards (e.g. Vodaphone). CDMA and GSM are not compatible technologies. You cannot use one type of phone on the other network.
Lol, let the flaming and ranting begin!!!!!

Dude,
It works very well! I have the AT&T Note... I unlocked it ($25 on ebay, I prefer this method as the seller has a reputation to protect). I then had it rooted, then flashed over to T-Mobile (http://rootgalaxynote.com/).
I did a test on the $30 - 1,500 minute plan (only 30 megs of data) to see how it works. I did this before flashing the modem and the 2G/Edge doesn't work well at all for the Note. However, after flashing the modem, it screams on TMO's 4G.
Good luck to you, but flash it and don't look back!

But just as a heads up, the exynos chip in the international version is not LTE equipped. So, if you get the international model it won't work on Tmobile's 4g bands even if you flash/hack/pray to the cell gods or anything else to your phone.

I'm not totally sure but, I believe if you get the international it will work on tmobile's hspa+. You shouldn't have to get the AT&T version if you just want to use the phone on tmobile and, are ok without LTE. Hspa+ is still very fast.

T-Mobile doesn't even have LTE so it doesn't make a difference.
The AT&T Note is the only one that works with T-Mobile 4G which again, is not LTE.
Also, no the international version does NOT get T-Mobile hspa +.
The international version ONLY gets EDGE on T-Mobile.

yes sorry WCDMA , and they only give me 137.80 for it :/ not enough for a used galaxy.
I'm confused what the GSM galaxy nexus will offer over the GS II. Don't they both use the same HSPA+ / WCDMA frequencies, if you get the GSM version?
Regardless I think you will be extremely lucky if you can find a way to swap a Galaxy S II for a Galaxy Nexus. If you ever do find a way that by some miracle gets you a GSM Galaxy Nexus for a i777 straight over, do let us know.

I think your confused. You cant use any GSM phone on Verizon. Unless maybe its unlocked? Verizon is CDMA. Along with Sprint. GSM can be used with ATT and T Mobile. i777 is for ATT. Unless you have the International version i9100. Then you should be able to put a T Mobile sim in it.

Yes, you need a CDMA/LTE Galaxy Nexus for Verizon. The i777 will not work on Verizon.
None of AT&T's LTE phones will work on Verizon, even if unlocked. What AT&T calls 4G that isn't LTE, their HSPA+, is also referred to as WCDMA, plus their 3G is called WCDMA, but its not CDMA like Verizon or Sprint. If that wasn't confusing enough both AT&T and Verizon use 700 MHz LTE, but they are not using the same section of the 700 range so they are not interoperable. Unlike EDGE (2G) that is interopeable on AT&T vs T-Mobile. And some regions of AT&T and T-Mobile use the same 3G frequencies, so some 3G phones have limited functionality on both GSM networks.
Basic rule of thumb, for best results get a phone specifically made for your carrier.

You'll be able to use the voice but not the data. Because the phone is specifically designed for AT&T, it has radios for specific AT&T bandwidths. Basically, you'll be able to make calls and get 2g data but you'll never be able to get 3g or HSPA+ on any other carrier's network.

Samsung Galaxy SII ETF??
hey people i own a samsung galaxy s ii for about 2 months now and i wanted to unlock the phone
i wanted to ask you guys do i need to pay the ETF fee to the AT&T
i will also be leaving usa and then i would living in india
please help me and tell me whether i need to do something
i also wanted to buy a new iphone and take it to india for my brother
are there any legal issues of etf problems for the phone
I have the same AT&T galaxy S2 and I live outside the US. When you unlock your phone you can use it outside the US with any carrier, now the tricky part is if your phone is GSM then you may use a SIM card if its not then you need to go directly to the company and set up the phone with a number. Some companies out side the US rely only on SIM card for internet use, this does not mean your phone will not work as a phone. Figure out first if your phone is GSM, if not find out where your moving if they offer internet use for phones that don't accept SIM cards.
You can take any phone where every you want, it's YOUR PHONE. Now if the phone has a bad ESN (stolen, debt or w/e reason) then no, it's not a good idea.
My phone is a GSM
i just wanted to know whether is have to pay a Early Termination Fee to the people at AT&T
will unlocking be an issue
thank you for any help

Not necessarily correct. 3G and H+ is possible worldwide.
The AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777 fully supports:
quad-band for 2G (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) and
tri-band for 3G (850/1900/2100 MHz).
It is only missing the 900 MHz band for 3G. But much of the world uses 2100 MHz for 3G anyways, so after you unlock this phone, you'll be all set to receive 3G or H+.

There is always a ETF if you plan to cancel your wireless plan during contract. To Permanently Unlock your phone, I found the best way is to call AT&T and request an unlock code. If you don't want to deal with AT&T, you can always go to ebay and buy an unlock code.

Yup. I've traveled to Europe and Asia and had no problems getting 3G and H+ with my unlocked I777.

[Q] at&t i717

Which carrier works best on unlocked gnote i717. I want to be able to use data and on straight talk I can't seem to get it working so I'm changing.

I can only assume that if the phone has "AT&T" branded on the front, that at&t would work the best no?
You get the apn settings for straight talk?
If a device is unlocked..the AT&T on the front is now simply just there.

Yes your right. Once unlocked the brand doesn't mean anything. But it doesn't mean it will work on Verizon. Yes it will work on tmobile after some research and reconfiguring. But it doesn't mean it will work "better".
i717
Its not my phone it belongs to a friend of mine he asked me if I could fix it for him. Yes I got the APN settings from straightalk I got a 45$ card and put on the phone. Still no data. Think I will get a T-Mobile sim and a at&t sim and give them a shot.

I would check online both carriers coverage for your area also. One might not have lte or better coverage than the other.
maybe

Hmm....its possible. This phone needs some love and a little maintenance and some reconfiguration
You will need an activated sim from the carrier of choice. You cannot just change APN setting.

You need to know if you got an att or TMobile Sim from straight talk, since it's not working you probably got a TMobile one, that will require Sim unlocking and the addition of a TMobile compatible modem plus the proper TMobile straight talk apn info.

Yes I know, the APN settings have to match the carrier settings before it will work. I sold the i717 to a friend and that friend found someone else that is wanting to buy the phone (because the guy I sold it to can't get the phone to work properly) so hes not wanting it anymore. So the new buyer asked me if i could fix it back it was running ics but after i rooted it it took it down to GB 2.3.6 I THINK. I dont know maybe what im trying to say isnt making any sense sorry. The i717 was the first phone that i ever unlocked, the unlocking part was easy it was the flashing part that got me. I dont have the phone in my hands yet, im just trying to throw out what i remember. I will wait untill i have the i717 before i go any futher.
