[ROOTED][ELEMENTAL X KERNEL INSTALLED] Haptic Feedback Problems - AT&T HTC One (M7)

Hello everyone!
I am new to the Android world and am loving it so far. I recently made the jump from the iPhone 3G, 3GS, 4 and 4S to a Nexus 4 and loved it. I loved it so much, that I just purchased my second Android phone which is clearly the HTC One (AT&T). I rooted my phone Saturday night, and have experimenting with a few Kernels. I have installed the ElementalX Kernel, which seems to be working very well. The one issue I am having is that haptic feedback on the capacitive buttons, and vibrations from notifications seem to be intermittent at best. Seeing as I am not allowed to post in the dev forums yet, can anyone give me some advice on how to attack this? Is there something I could do to the code strings in the Kernel, or is it something the dev of the kernel needs to be made aware of, meaning a bug in the code itself?
Thanks for the help!
~Eddie

I am an idiot. Turns out it's just a setting tweak from the Kernel. On power save mode, haptic feedback for the buttons is turned off.

[Q] How likely (how soon) is BLN for SGS2?

On my Galaxy S and Nexus S the mod I most appreciated was Backlight Notification (BLN) to use the LEDs for missed call/text notifications.
Does anybody know how possible such a mod is for the SGS2? It took a long time to appear on the Nexus S scene - is it likely to be just as tricky for the SGS2?
BLN would be great. Going to use Noled for now I guess.
definately possible since neldar released the version for older sgs gingerbread today..
I started a thread about a bounty for this. I don't think there is much interest. Which is crazy. Not having a notification led really sucks.
I would really like this too, maybe since the phone hasn't been out long it'll take a bit of time to get this on the radar for development. Especially as it still hasn't been released in some countries yet.
I came from an HTC hero, so this hasn't been an issue previously, and it took a bit of searching to find out that BLN had existed for previous galaxy phones.

Good news - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14679659&postcount=510
Excellent! Neldar's BLN is definitely sorely missed on the i9100.

Can someone explain the advantage of this over NoLED?
I too came from a Hero and have been happier with NoLED than a single LED notification. There are already tons of options to setup NoLED however you want. I can't imagine a mod being any better...
No led is useless to me since I dont use a lock screen, hate em. Does the bln version work without one? I read for 20 minutes in the link without figuring that out.
This is the mod I am most looking forward too
so any news about the BLN application for Galaxy S II ?
Yes, same here. Eagerly waiting for BLN to support the I9100. But isn't there any other app in the market? As our phone has in built key light it shouldn't be very hard to make an app I guess.
Regards.

Lets hope its soon! I'm very excited for this mod.
I'm also looking VERY much forward to this mod, since I'm coming from an HTC phone (Hero) where this is standard.
This would make the SGS2 perfect! ATM it's only almost perfect
Would also happily add to the bounty
im also looking forward to this mod. can't believe a notification LED wasnt built in.. must have just forgot?
I will definitely donate for this!!
yes, this and the lock screen delay issue is the only thing holding this wonderful phone back.
Does BLN control Pro v0.11.10 work on SGS II??

Lock screen volume

Hi everybody,
I'm new here, this is my first message. I cannot post to the developer's forum because of that, so that's why I'm posting here.
I'm using Paranoid Android 3.10, upgraded from 3.0. However, I can not do something that was very useful in 3.0, modify the volume from the lock screen. This is something that I use a lot, before entering a meeting, etc. It's a quick way for the vibrate/silence/ring toggle. Anyway, this is not working in 3.10, any ideas why or how to get it back?
Thanks in advance and sorry for the 'off topic', if any.
Best.
I just got a replacement Nexus 4 and I thought it was a side effect of having the Android 4.2.2 bootloader. Good to know its not just me, this is one of my favorite features of the ROM!

Well, it could perfectly be a problem of the bootloader. I had 4.2.1 in PA 3.0 and now I have 4.2.2 in PA 3.10. If I'd knew this before upgrading...

Not very happy with my s4

After a few days of playing with my S4 I would have to say I'm not very happy with it. My smart stay setting don't work but maybe a 1/4 of the time if that. My voice commands don't work but half the time and I get a bit of lag from time to time. I've always used the stock browser in the past cause of flash player and now that don't work right, along with every now and then not being able to click links like its lagging but yet the url, bookmarks, Window manager, and menu button work. Plus the battery life hasn't been to great but that may be me being used to the note 2 battery. If anyone else is getting the same thing or knows of fixes please let me know. I have had these problems on fully stock, rooted with stock debloated, and now on rooted stock. Should I just wait and see what roms come out or should I try to return it and if I should return it is there a way back to non rooted fully stock? Thank you for your time.
edit 5/30: i just got done formating the int and ext storage to start from scratch. after that i noticed hyperdrive was just released so i installed that. phone softbricked cause i tried to install the ads mod from the app he has on the rom. was getting missing file errors and i/o error when tring to restore/wipe/install anything. did the no-wipe factory image and had to wipe data and factory reset after to get it out of bootloop. now im back and phone seems to be running great (but not sure about the voice commands and smart screen stuff just yet). i think my problem was i didnt change the save folder for titanium backup to sd card and i had some rom backups in the int. storage. figured this out when i went to make a backup and it said not enough memory. so if your having problems with lag double check your int. storage to make sure you have plenty of space.
Sounds like every S 4 I have ever seen.

Cleanrom would be nice right about now but I heard it will be a while till he can get his hands on one. Looks like I may have to just wait it out for some roms to come out And hope the wonderful devs can get this thing running good. God knows verizon cant do it.

Thanks for the heads up! I ran it on my note 2 and loved it. Can't freaking wait!
Glad I brightened things up a bit for you!! Heck I am looking to upgrade soon and am considering the gs4. Been testing the waters in anticipation. I ran one of scotts roms years ago on my Optimus S (moved to the nexus s 4g, to currently the epic 4g touch) and he made a solid rom then, I know that.
I came from a note 2 as well. I can't wait for custom roms. The stock rom Sucks. I miss clean rom and beanstown but I'm sure everything will be here soon because the S series devices always have more development because they're more popular and more of an everyone phone unlike the note which isn't for everyone.

I've noticed the Verizon S4 lags when compared to the T-Mobile variant.
the issue with links you cant click is an bug browser freezing up.hopefully they will fix it soon.temp u can clise tge broswer and then fire back up and it should work.
I wonder in Verizon applied the latest update like all the other carruers did that took care of lag etc...I remember something in early may that the other carriers were getting an update to address the lag issue and since our phones were just released last week...it may be a little bit before Verizon catches up.

The Galaxy S3 was the first android phone that I could say finally solved the laggyness that has been there since the droid. I have an iphone 5, S3, and the S4. The S4, at least mine, is clearly faster then my S3, and the even the iphone (which has always been pinnacle of non lag phones)......can't even compare with the S4 smoothness, and that is saying something.
I hate lag, hated it since the OGDroid, and can see immediately. I'm sorry you're having issues with you're S4, but I really don't know what alternative phone you could buy as of now.....because, if i'm not mistaking, the S4,HTC One or Iphone.....are the only phones you can buy with the least amount of lag as of todays date.
Best of luck to you.
Well I need to do some more testing with the voice command. I went outside today (were is bright) and noticed that some of the clear stickers on the side of the phone were still there. Just not to sure if the ones I pulled off was covering the mic. If it's better from here on out I will definitely feel like a de de deee.
edit: still having a little of trouble but it may have to do with background noises and the phone volume being all the way up.
Tks

Same here.
I turned off all the Air gestures, and other 'features' that I don't need or care about and switched to ADW EX launcher.
Very pleased with the S4.
I'm happy with my GS4. No issues with me. My battery has been treating me much better compared to my old LG Revolution. I haven't noticed any lag on my phone and that's something I noticed all the time on 2.3.6

That sucks. I'm glad I haven't had any issues.
I kept reading posts about the S4 being laggy, so I was a little worried when I picked mine up yesterday. Luckily, I seem to have a lag free version.
I came from an iPhone 5, and this S4 is much faster. Prior to that I had a gnex, and there is night and day difference between that and the S4.
Omg, Clean Rom is coming!!!!!! I cant wait, his roms are seriously top notch, I have renewed faith!!!!

What are you guys talking about here, you can run other carrier roms, what is your hold up? You can run any rom the ATT I337 can, to include sprint and t-mobile roms. you just need to use the loki patch (verizon) within the recovery apps. Smile and start here...Cheer up Charlie!

Best Custom ROMs for AT&T HOX+

Recently, I flashed cyanogenmod 10.1 on my AT&T HTC One X+ (plus). I used the ROM from lloir.com, and to my satisfaction, I was able to flash the ROM successfully. However, once I began to use the ROM I realized that I was not aware of an issue from using nightly builds, my phone reboots every 5 minutes, literally. I knew that the camera and gps would not work, but it seems that my carrier does not work either. For these reasons, I ask you guys to let me know of ROMs that function more smoothly on the AT&T HOX+. I already tried AOKP/Paranoid Android and that also rebooted about every 5 minutes. If you guys know of a fairly stock ROM that is somewhat stable (rebooting only a few times a day), I would greatly appreciate the advice. From what I've seen on other forums, there are many more ROMs for the international version but not quite as many for the AT&T version.
Thanks,
John Carrot
The two front runners seem to be Elegancia and ViperXL. I've used both, and they are good. I'm currently using ViperXL simply because.
I think I read somewhere here that, until we get S-Off(?) not much more can be done. It's looking more and more like that isn't happening, but I'm satisfied with my phone for now. When 4.3 finally drops, it might be a different story.

Basically, the ROMs based off of Sense work much better with the HTC One X+ than the ones based off of stock android. I think I'll use your suggestion, but the reason I rooted and added a custom ROM was to get a more stock experience. However, if the stock type version of Android for the HOX+ do not function properly, I will most certainly go back to sense. It is a bit disappointing, but that's life. Thanks.

Just an fyi, the lack of AOSP ROMs for the AT&T HOX+ is not at all related to S-Off. I think it's mostly a lack of developers and the fact that the AT&T HOX+ is a surprisingly unique device (only LTE phone with Tegra 3 I believe)

[Q] HTC One M8 over SGS5

Well, guys and girls I want to hear from you why to get (or not) HTC One M8 over SGS5 as owners of that first phone. I have two weeks to decide, but at that point I'm not sure which one to pick.
Currently I have SGS3, stock rooted, unlocked + Xposed tweaks, running TSF Launcher.
What I'm looking for? Ability to root, unlock and customize little bit stock ROM using Xposed. Launcher, probably, I will replace with TSF anyway.
Thanks for any feedback
Well I'll tell you.. Having come from two galaxy phones this phone is a welcome treat. Fast and flawless. Without question the best smart phone I have ever owned.. You can't trip up the phone. After about a week of getting used to it you will never look back.
Good luck

Had the sGS3 and sGS4 in the past. Got the m8 and nothing compares to it. Just an awesome phone. Only thing I miss from my Galaxy is the Omoled screen. Black colors were black. More vibrant the colors too. But this screen is great too. The built quality is amazing. And I pretty much had enough with the Galaxys home button. Tap to wake in the HTC One m8 works great. Only wish the power button was on the right side below the volume rocker. Would be easier to press to lock the phone. But hey, at least they moved from the top left side to the top right. Easier to rich then before (if you are a righty of course). GO WITH THE HTC ONE m8. No regrets.

From what I hear, the AT&T GS5 has root now, so the rest will follow (if not possible already). So this shouldn't be much of a factor in your decision.
Posting in the M8 forum, you likely won't get a very objective result.
Also, there is a related thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2780334
Of course, the mention of lack of root for the GS5 is not longer relevant. But you will see various opinions comparing the 2 phones, reasons (aside from root) why we picked the M8, etc.
Personally, the M8 just looks and feels much better designed and built. The GS5 isn't "bad". If HTC didn't exist, I'd probably think the GS5 was pretty nice. But of course, that isn't the case, and HTC simply has higher end physical design. I also love the front facing speakers and the audio quality you get from them. Maybe not relevant for everyone. But its one of the reasons I picked the M8, and quite happy I made that decision.
Few more questions related to M8:
- What about not removable battery - is an issue there? I have often removed battery in my SGS3 do too boot issues after flashing or just freezes.
- Does Xposed framework works properly on M8? For an example GravityBox has big incompatibility with SGS3 stock ROM.
Thanks

1) No, lack of removable battery (for sake of doing a "battery pull") is not an issue. Every device without a user accessible battery has some button combo hardwired to reboot the phone, same as a battery pull. On the M8, you hold power and vol up buttons until the phone restarts.
2) Can't say about GravityBox in particular. But I've used other Xposed modules, and everything works fine AFAIK.
I am telling you why you should buy the Galaxy S5.
First of all, it isn't true that the HTC One M8 has a much better build quality. It is very slippery and you will find yourself dropping it a lot if you don't put a case on. But if you buy a case, what's the point of having a aluminum phone?
I have the gold variant of the Galaxy S5 and I think it is the best color for this phone. It doesn't look like a band aid or whatever they call it. Actuall, it is actually like a light gold color and when you put the phone in direct sunlight it looks more like Silver, which looks beautiful.
Also, the battery is noticeably better on the Galaxy S5, especially with Ultra Power Saving Mode where the display turns black and white. Also, you can replace the batteries if you want.
Also, water resitant capabilities. I'm coming from a Galaxy S3 and I never thought water resistant capabilities would be useful but now that I am on vacation, it is very useful. I've taken the phone inside the pool many times and also those water splashes from people jumping into the pool won't be a problem for your phone.
Root? My phone is already rooted and I have already all the apps I need. I don't plan on switching to a custom ROM because the performance is just amazing. There is no lag whatsoever and this comes from someone who hated the Galaxy S3 awful performance.
The camera, there is no comparison. 16 MP vs dual 4 MP? Pixels are not everything, but the detail you will get with the Galaxy S5 camera is unparalleled.

I have heard that root is a partial root. Two persons confirmed. They are lurkers here in XDA forums, but know the stuff. Also have heard it works only on kernel builds before June. No clue if new phones have another kernel build.

Fair points. However, M8 camera wins in low light (as its intended). Low light being just about anything but outdoors in daytime. Depends on how you personally use your camera. But many (probably most) my pics are indoors.

I personally thought it was easy. Many coming from Samsung devices will complain its "more complicated".
With any new device and new manufacturer, things will be different and there will be a learning curve.
I'm guessing it might take you an hour or 2 to unlock the bootloader, install custom recovery, s-off and SIM unlock. I am the father of a 3 year old child, not much free time, and still got it all done 1 day after I bought the phone.
In order to keep the thread count down, especially on something that is not specifically about the M8 (this thread is just as much about the S5, which you have an identical thread in that forum), I am closing this.
