Hi everybody,
I'm new here, this is my first message. I cannot post to the developer's forum because of that, so that's why I'm posting here.
I'm using Paranoid Android 3.10, upgraded from 3.0. However, I can not do something that was very useful in 3.0, modify the volume from the lock screen. This is something that I use a lot, before entering a meeting, etc. It's a quick way for the vibrate/silence/ring toggle. Anyway, this is not working in 3.10, any ideas why or how to get it back?
Thanks in advance and sorry for the 'off topic', if any.
Best.
I just got a replacement Nexus 4 and I thought it was a side effect of having the Android 4.2.2 bootloader. Good to know its not just me, this is one of my favorite features of the ROM!

Well, it could perfectly be a problem of the bootloader. I had 4.2.1 in PA 3.0 and now I have 4.2.2 in PA 3.10. If I'd knew this before upgrading...

Anyway, I'm sort of new to rooting, I know what pretty much everything does, and enjoy flashing my S3. I've had CM10 for a while now, and am currently on the latest 2nd of December nightly build of CM10. Works fine. Tonight I've flashed the 4.2 camera with photosphere and stuff, because I have a thing for the Galaxy Nexus. And due to this love, I really want to get the virtual buttons on the bottom of the screen (the ones that are on a little bar) and I want the actual Nexus ones, the 3, not the search and menu and stuff. I've searched on here already and cant find anything. I tried flashing this one earlier and just got stuck in a boot loop. This always happens every time I try flash the buttons. I've read that its not as simple as just dumping onto the S3, but can anyone help me flash them onto the international i9300 Galaxy S3 on CM10? I really want to try it out.
Any help is appreciated
Cheers

Thinking about getting the HTC One and was wondering if you rooted it, would you be able to get 4.2.2 on it?

You won't be able to. All current sense based roms are 4.1.2. Once AOSP based ROMs come out then yes, you'll be able to get 4.2.2.

Can't wait either. Hopefully don't have to wait too long because I'm loving the look of the One, but the software part is what's killing me.
What are you missing?

Coming from a Nexus S with a CM-based 4.2.2 - I was worried about two things on the 'downgrade' : Bluetooth skipping & the 'swype-style' keyboard.
The One has the swype capability & I haven't have any BT garbles yet... so I'm OK with the 4.1.2 core. Just getting used to Sense.
4.2.2 is obviously a MINOR update and IMHO does not offer much.
For all I care the One can skip 4.2.2 and just get 5 once it's released..

While I somewhat disagree with this as I think the lockscreen widgets and the new quick settings in 4.2.2 are major updates and add a lot. That being said, I upgrade from the Galaxy Nexus running cm 10.1, and I was concerned about the 'downgrade' as well.. The one thing that is killing me is no way to get to the camera from the lockscreen, yes I can add it to my dock, but i dont keep my camera on my dock.. so i really miss that.. Also I cannot fathom why htc would forgo any type of quick settings in the notifications dropdown, I installed renovate 1.0 custom rom that has them so all is good..
In conclusion, its not a big deal at all, its somewhat refreshing to use Sense 5 in my opinion.
coming from a nexus 4 on 4.2.2 i do not miss it at all really. You can swipe your camera icon from the lock screen which mirrors the functionality of 4.2.2 lock screens. The quick settings feature would be nice but i have always used nova launcher and power toggles widget so it essentially accomplishes the same thing.
4.2.2 has all sorts of bluetooth, wifi and wakelock issues on the nexus 4 so i am perfectly happy being on a 4.1.2 using faster, sexier version with LTE. I am scared that 5.0 at google i/o is going to bring babel and some other awesome features which we wont get for awhile. I guess we will have to wait and see.
I do however miss inductive charging

I'm using Elixir 2 to get quick sets in the dropdown - mute & volume profiles are key, and I also put a shortcut to KeePass there. It's a non-root/non-ROM option for those less adventurous. Elixir also lets you make widgets with tighter packed icons - I thought the 4x4 was a little loose for a screen this big & high res..

So you're saying you prefer the HTC one over the Nexus 4? And Sense have something that the Nexus 4 has instead of the blink feed?

Some guy on reddit said that iy should be coming to the international build in about a month. He said he had seen some test builds, and at the rank they were being pushed out made him think they were almost done.

Considering 4.2.2 is still new and rare in production models (the SGS4 is the only phone I know of that has it) I don't see anyone jumping over it to put 4.3 on anything but a nexus very soon. If HTC is close to pushing out a 4.2.2 build, they won't have time to retool for a 4.3 release for a bit.
Hey all,
I've tried to trawl all I can, but im coming up short, so please bear with me.
Just got a XTZ last week, a SGP 321 (16GB LTE) with 10.1.1.A.1.307 pre loaded.
What is the lastest FW/ROM that is available for this unit? and what are the practical benefits?
What are the best custom roms from your experience??
I've got a Xperia Z and a HTC one, both running custom ROMs (both stock based), so im familiar with the general benefits, but just want to know what has been developed for far for the XTZ?
thanks

I've tried 2 custom roms so far, Free Xperia CM10.1 and P.A.C. ...and I've gone back to Sony stock each time
The most obvious issue many complain about is the over-sensitive touch screen. Sony have fixed this in their latest roms (you have the latest for yours) but it's still an issue in custom roms. Causes things like zooming on web pages when you are just trying to scroll, and can drive you mad when trying to place the cursor when editing text. Those with WiFi only tablets (311/312) will also lose GPS.
I also found my tablet became very laggy after a while with the PAC ROM. Shame, I love having Pie - the permanent status/nav bar on stock is one thing that annoys me.
Altogether, I'd stick with stock for now untill Sony release an official 4.2.2 Rom and the devs can then incorporate the fixes from it for the above problems.

Most (if not all) custom ROMs here are based on the latest version of Android (currently 4.2.2) - that's one of the main attractions of using them.
Currently the stock Sony ROMs are based on 4.1.1. However, Sony are very close to releasing their own 4.2.2 ROM for the Tablet Z...but android 4.3 is already "out there"...so it goes on.
You'll always be a few steps behind with a Stock ROM, but for me the Stock ROM is good enough - apart from the permanent Navigation Bar (I prefer Pie).
By the way, if you look at recent posts in the CM10.1 Free Xperia thread looks like someone may have come up with a fix for the over-sensitive touch screen...I may be tempted to try a custom ROM again if the fix works

Thanks from me too! I'm still on the Stock ROM because of the alleged "zooming" issue. I would be great to hear again from you in case have some new information on this
I have flashed 10.3.1.A.0.244 on mine and I get random touches on the screen, if you tick show touches in dev options you might see them if yours does this too. It's really bloody annoying when you're in the middle of playing a game or browsing and the tab decides to open the task switcher or press the back button!

I thought it was phantom touches as well but the latest update fixed it for me. I tested it before the update though and the touches were coming from where my fingers were on the back of the device.

The ones I have tried
At the moment I am using CM 10.2 available here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2386786
Seems to work well, extremely fast. There are some problems mainly with the onscreen keyboard and chrome but this is not really an issue.
I have also tried PAC which in my mind has way too many options and functions that collide with each other. Some of the options you choose from different roms actually overwrite each other which causes problems. You can find the rom from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2334047
CM 10.1 avalailable here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2284469
This one works well. It is stable and quite fast. DidnĀ“t have any problems with it. Used for a long time and changed to another rom simply because...well I got bored. For day to day use this is the one to have.
Okay, I have been on Jelly Beans ROMs since practically build 1, it seems. I have never tried out another ROM on this device. Something here lately has really gotten my attention though, and that is the "Halo" usage from ParanoidAndroid ROMs. I spent almost an hour last night reading through the bazillion pages on the Original Android Development tab for this ROM (PA). There were so many mixed reviews about what works and what doesn't on the latest release that I am not sure what to think.
My question is, ultimately, is there a build of ParanoidAndroid for VZW Note 2 that is "mostly" bug free (GPS, graphical issues, etc)? I even looked at JellyBam, but there is even less of a clear message with that ROM. I need something for a daily driver and really don't want to have to do work arounds for the things I typically do on my device (Phone Calls to Netflix and all between).
Anyone have any ideas? Like I said, the only build of Paranoid I could find was the newly released one that looks to be built off Android 4.3 (Cyanogenmod, I assume). If that is the case, from what I have read, there are a few things that aren't tied up completely on it. Older build of Paranoid maybe? (Where do I find that?)
Thanks for the help guys.

I'm running build 3.99, have been for a month now. Out of 10 I give it a..... 10. There's really no bugs at all, I hardly get graphical issues but they do exist. I got a GPS lock and you can by getting a lock in a tw ROM in maps, then immediately flashing as you would a normal rom. But honestly this is my favorite ROM I've had on all my android phones so fast and stable and great battery life. Hope this helps.

I think I am going to go with to go with a 4.2.2 ROM just for overall stability.
In regards to gapps, is the general rule of thumb just to use the most recent?

Yeah basically. Just make sure you download the one for 4.2.2 not a 4.3 gapps
Okay, got version 3.68 installed and proper gapps. Haven't had time to really dive in to get everything set up. Everything is running smooth and quick. The only issue I have at the moment is that I can't get a 4g connection.
Any ideas?

You're not the only one. I've been searching daily and trying different things to see if I could get it to kick in. I tried tricks that people have posted but I'm just like you. I get the Audio History settings but not the additional settings in the OK Google detection area. I went as far as wiping my phone and starting from scratch just to see. Still no luck. I am rooted and am using a different phone running 4.4.3 but the same results. My wife is purely stock and her situation is identical to ours. Bummer

Bump.
I have the Galaxy S3 T999, stock, not rooted, Jelly Bean 4.3, Google search 3.5+, Play services 5+. Audio History is on. I've tried searching OK Google Everywhere and Unleash the Google. I factory reset my phone, and didn't use any data restore programs at all. Play services auto updated, and I updated my Google Search app. STILL no luck. Re-searched the OK Google Everywhere and the Unleash the Google phrases.
Nothing doing. Can somebody help us figure out what's going on?
And here I thought it was just me... I'm glad I found this thread. I was able to get it to work on my stock N7 with 4.4 but can't on my stock Galaxy S4 or stock Galaxy Tab 2 7", both running 4.3...
It's pretty disappointing. I checked a friend's phone who has the same exact phone and software as me but she has the OK Google everywhere option. Oh well I'll sit here and cry with you guys until something magically changes.
Fortunately for me I FINALLY have this activated. Turns out that the problem for me personally was due to the ROM that I am running. I'm rooted so if anyone here is I would advise you to check out this link because it fixed it for me right way. Good luck everyone.

I've just tried it myself, switching back to stock 4.3 after archiport 4.4 beta was getting unstable. Unfortunately this method didn't work, and I think it's a 4.3 thing. Bugger that, as if really use this feature, but am not quite prepared to get a new phone yet. There is an xposed module to get this kinda working, but again just for 4.4.
