This tool is unlike any other recovery based tool you have ever seen. I have seen alot of people struggling to reinstall gingerbread roms or even install other ICS roms due to their MainVer changing. Well I introduce Awesome Recovery Tool v2!
This is a touchscreen based tool (tested with AmonRa recovery). You answer two prompts in the tool from your phone and it will create a PH98IMG.zip based on what you need. This tool is based on the aroma (yes, like the smell, not amonra) recovery scripting. This allows you to use your touchscreen to select things during a flashable zip installation.
I have repurposed it as an easy recovery tool that will help get you booting again no matter what rom you are currently on. This will create a PH98IMG.zip personalized to the MainVer you have and the OS you want to flash to.
I don't see how this can get much more noob proof.
The main point of this tool is to create a PH98IMG.zip specific to your needs that has the right mainver attached to it and the right boot.img of the rom you want to get to.
Version 2 already out! You can flash custom boot images with this tool now! Put any boot image you want on your sd card named customboot.img and select the appropriate option in the tool.
How to use:
0) To flash a boot image specific to a rom, pull the boot.img out of the PH98IMG.zip included with the rom. Rename it to customboot.img and put it on the root of the sd card. (not in any folders). The PH98IMG.zip might be inside the roms zip file if it set to autoinstall.
1) Flash the attached zip file in recovery.
2) When the window pops up, tap your MainVer. If you are unsure, tap the OTA (middle button) first.
3) Tap the OS you want to flash to. (Select custom boot here if you are using that feature)
4) A PH98IMG.zip of the files you need has been created.
5) Amonra will say an error occured, but ignore it.
6) Reboot to hboot and install the PH98IMG.zip.
7) If you get main version older error, rerun the tool and select a higher main version.
8) Then flash a rom of the same version (ics/gb) that you chose in the tool. (Scott's cleanroms for each OS are a good base choice to atleast get your phone back on it's feet)
Other note: if the rom you want doesn't automatically reboot into hboot to flash a PH98IMG.zip (you have to put it there yourself) you should install the rom first then use this, but in all honesty it doesn't really matter.
Current Limitations
1) You will need a way delete the PH98IMG.zip off your SD card before you can reboot into recovery again. If you can't boot up because you haven't flashed the new rom yet, use an external card reader to remove the PH98IMG.zip from the card so you can boot into recovery. If you don't have one, the procedure in this post (also by me) will work aswell
2) Depending on the kernel that a specific rom uses, wifi might not work after using this tool. I will update this tool soon to take that into account and fix that problem.
this should clean up some of the rom threads! great idea man! GO BLUE
bump. Nice job man

Nice work con247.. I will try it out once joelz drops another update or Newt..this will really make life easy!
It won't work with joel's roms since he has bravia engine. I will be adding an option for a custom boot image on the sd card

Yes, I used it to go from a kernel that worked well with every ICS rom I tried (scroslers), to go to Joelz 1.7 with redefined. Wanted to try the oc, so decided to give this a try. Only took one take to get the mainver right (pulled sd to retry), but really simplified and sped up the process -- mostly I am stoked that there is a good method to switch this, given this definitely isnt the last time Thanks again!
Success with cwm!

Well as some of you might have figured out I haven't had time to update it yet. But I have some other cool features planned and I will work on it after my midterm exam tomorrow night. (yes, friday night wtf are they thinking?)
i 've got an amaze 4g t-mobile recently.it works perfectly.but then,i updated to ICS through OTA...
Everything work fine except Wifi,i cant turn on wifi at all.It only show error when i try to turning on ...
I did search the whole forums,trying everthing i can do..unlock boot loader/rooted/s-off/flash 4EXT recovery/flash many cook rom (android revolution,fastrom,energy rom..),kernel(ruby-faux123 v007/v008/v015/v016..)
finally i reverted back to Stock GB with "PH85IMG_Ruby_TMOUS_1.43.531.3_Radio_1.08.550L.19DC_30.66.550L.08D_release_228638_signed".
but wifi still shows ''error'' at all,when i try to turning on hotspot ,the phone force to reset .
currently:
Stock GB:2.3.4
Sense:3.0
Kernel:2.3.35.13 build 144#1
Baseband:1.08.550L.19DC_30.66.550L.08D
Buildnumber:1.43.531.3
Bootloader unlocked and s-off.
Hoping there is anyone else can understand my bad english and help me .
Since you're s-off try updating back to ics via the most recent file in the stock ruu thread and see if it resolves it.

as you have said,i just flashed the above kernel (Amaze-EKF-009b-sense.zip) into stock GB,but wifi error is still there
after that,i updated to ICS via RUU and flashed this kernel from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362759 (at #5)
Nothing changes.
at the first time,i have flashed the Amaze ICS(v015) kernel via 4EXT touch recovery,flashed kernel successfully .
(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1359951)
but i think i go wrong somewhere,because the following instruction said:
CWM Flash Instructions: (NO LONGER SUPPORTING CWM METHOD DUE TO HTC's STUPID S-ON UNLOCK!!!)
1. Copy file to SDcard
2. Reboot to CWM recovery
3. Flash the Zip file (if you noticed an error, Flash the same file the 2nd time)
4. Reboot, Done!
i read carefully the second way
Easy Kernel Flasher Instructions:
1. download the above file (via phone directly or to a PC)
2. unzip to a folder then depends on PC or Linux
[ Windows ] open command prompt window and type Flash.bat
[ Linux ] open terminal window and type ./Flash.sh (make sure permission is set to 755 for the Flash.sh)
3. Let the script complete!
,downloaded the kernel,extracted into a folder on my pc.
but i dont see any "Flash.bat'' and dont know how to flash it.
but in the folder that i've just extracted.i found two file:
wl12xx.ko and wl12xx_sdio.ko
putting the whole folder modules into the this kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362759) and run flash.bat...
after flashing,both wifi and bluetooth broken
when i try to turning them on,they turn off instantly
//sorry sir for the bad english
Try to run my AIO tool, which can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762936
If that doesn't work, more likely than not, it's a hardware issue, as my AIO tool will install a MOSTLY stock RUU with a stock kernel. If that doesn't work, I strongly doubt anything else would work either.
Make sure you follow the directions for the tool.

Anyone have any info as to how or where to repair the wifi chip on the amaze? I'm having the same problem and am quite certain that is it hardware issue as the problem started after dropping the phone and without flashing or changing anything, fixing permissions and flashing stock RUU's, kernels, etc of no help. Hoping that something is possible, would be great if it was as simple as a loose ribbon cable...

Hello,
Here is my situation. I got S-off, SuperCID, unlocked on my HTC amaze unbranded version. Then got ICS stock RUU to run.
The wifi, bluetooth worked fine. However, I have to compile the kernel for this exact version (matched radio, baseband kernel, etc). I downloaded the source from HTCdev (the one with TI WLAN sources), and compiled it. Then I got the zImage repacked so that it can run on the device. Then I see that the wifi, bluetooth shows "error".
The kernel build "readme.txt" located me to the kernel object files such as wl12xx.ko. So I planned to push them in to the device with command "adb push wl12xx.ko /system/lib/modules" but failed. I got super user permission ("adb shell", "su") but still cannot get the kernel objects to the device with adb command. Is there a way to handle this?
My final objective is to get the compiled kernel (with no wifi, bluetooth error) running.
PS. Doesn't actually matter if it is GB or ICS.
Thank you in advance.

It's easier if you swap the neccesary files with faux kernel zip and flash it from recovery or make your own flashable zip.. That way the modules and zimage get flashed without having to use adb

Now that the new hboot doesn't allow S-ON devices to flash kernels I went ahead and adapted this for the LTE. It's something I started for the Evo 3D back in January, but when a new way to get S-OFF was found I sat it aside and had forgotten about it.
When used it tries to flash the kernel like normal and doesn't do anything special if able to, otherwise it will copy a script to the system partition and install the kernel when the ROM tries to boot up. All that's needed is for a few lines to be added to the updater-script and it can do the rest.
I'll update this with more information at a later time, but for now I just want to say thank you to everyone who has helped contribute ideas and tested. As always, any help with improving it is welcomed.
How To Use It
This is mainly for ROM and kernel devs to use before releasing, but it can easily be added to any that don't normally use it. For more detailed instructions see Page 3.
Download and add the "kernel" folder to your update zip
Edit your updater-script and use the following when you are ready to install the boot.img
Code:
ui_print("Installing Kernel, please wait...");
package_extract_file("boot.img", "/tmp/boot.img");
package_extract_dir("kernel", "/tmp/kernel");
set_perm_recursive(0, 2000, 0777, 0777, "/tmp/kernel");
run_program("/tmp/kernel/install_kernel.sh", "/tmp/boot.img", "/tmp/bootready.tmp");;
ifelse(file_getprop("/tmp/bootready.tmp","kernel.ready") != "READY",(
ifelse(file_getprop("/tmp/bootready.tmp","kernel.ready") == "STARTUP",
ui_print("Kernel Will Be Installed On Startup."),
ui_print("ERROR: Kernel Not Installed!")
)
));
Sign the zip and it can then be installed like normal from any device with a custom recovery
Changes
v0.57
flashboot.sh - Fixed the case statement that verifies the kernel flashed properly
flashboot.sh - Moved the call for DD to save the old kernel so that it always gets used
Downloads/Sources
Kernel Folder on DevHost (MD5: 27eB86aae3562e147d86b8dfe7a04786)
Google Code
Github - All files including the flashboot binary source
How Can I Test It With S-OFF?
If you comment out the dd command that writes the boot.img it will act like your device has S-ON.
Edit install_kernel.sh and change:
Code:
echo "-Trying to write the new boot.img and verify it's MD5"
$BBDD if=$BOOTPADDED of=$BLOCKBOOT; sync
rm -f $BOOTOLD
to:
Code:
echo "-Trying to write the new boot.img and verify it's MD5"
#$BBDD if=$BOOTPADDED of=$BLOCKBOOT; sync
rm -f $BOOTOLD
Where Are The Log Files?
In the recovery it uses: /tmp/recovery.log
On boot it uses: /data/local/bootinfo.txt
What Does This Need To Work?
A custom recovery
A valid kernel already installed with init scripts to start either /system/bin/app_process or /system/bin/netd
What Recoveries Does It work With?
Most of my testing has been done with TWRP, but it should work just as well with any other recovery
Why Did My Phone Reboot Back To The Recovery?
If it is unable to flash the kernel it will leave the old one in place and reboot back to the recovery. If you are able to, please pull the log file from /data/local/bootinfo.txt and send it to me so I can see what needs to be fixed.
What If I Get A Bootloop?
Either the kernel you flashed doesn't work with your ROM or there was an error and it's unable to reboot back to the recovery. If you hold volume down it should bring up the bootloader, from there use the volume and power buttons to select 'Recovery'.
Why Does My Phone Boot Straight To The Bootloader?
You either managed to wipe your boot partition (kernel) or sometimes this will happen when upgrading hboots. If you are S-ON you will need to flash a new boot image from fastboot.
Reserved for later use

I used Flash Image GUI on my NS4G all of the time. The last 2 updates were to add this phone and the Nexus 7. It takes about 10 seconds to flash a kernel or recovery img. Its a JoeyKrim app...so you know its legit. It actually saved me last night when testing a N7 kernel overclocked over 1.99. . The kernel somehow made my N7 not boot to recovery no matter what I tried so I stuck a different kernel in that app, flashed it and once it booted I flashed the CWM 6.0.1.0 and I was completely fixed. Money well spent.
Edit..XhausX, I bought my first 2 HTCs ever about 2 weeks ago. They are both s on 1.13 but I need to either return on to full stock or use your rooted stock. I need to help my mother out. She's using a Samsung Moment! Ouch.... I am downloading that now. Is it a simple wipe and flash? If its more difficult, I will gladly shoot a donation your way if you can help me. I think I prefer her to be rooted stock so your odex version is the call...should have mentioned I know squat about the HTC methods. Regaw_Leinard got me where I am now

Since the kernel is only writeable from the rom this does something similar, except it does it after you flash the rom and it's automatic.
You could look at it as the rom itself installs it's own kernel. That's one of the reasons why it may look so convoluted, but for a rom/kernel dev to actually implement it is easy once you know how it works.

If you no longer need it rooted personally I would get s-off first and then run the latest RUU to restore it to stock. That way you'll always be able to re-root anytime without hassle, but the device can still be completely stock and used normally.

Usually it's best to run it last so everything else is already in place. It will also check the recovery for the mount point, so that line won't be needed with it.
For your paranoid android rom you could use something like this: http://pastebin.com/rGVDKK2u
I'm not able to test it atm though so you'll probably want to verify it's good first.

4. Flash kernel script for funky kernel to turn some functions on.
But some of the functions of the funky kernel, like s2w, are not working. I took a look at the /sys/android_touch/, no file of sweep2wake is created. I then mounted the folder as r/w using es file manager, and tried to manually create the folder. that failed. I did see while flashing the kernel script for funky one line of instructions for flashing kernel in hboot for s-on rezound. I am just wondering if there is any extra steps involving flashing kernel for s-on phone, or if anyone could point me to some guide of doing so. Thanks!
Sweep2wake is gone. Ive not touched the scripts package in a LONG time. I got too many other things going on right now.
Oh, I thought I have done something wrong or missed some steps. Any reason why it is gone? It seems to be a good feature. Thanks!

Found it to be a little too "hack"-ish for my tastes. I've noticed it wakes the screen every so often even if the feature is off

Flashed Speed Rom last night and am getting a wifi error. of course all benefit of the rom is negated because battery life sucks when the phone is constantly trying to acquire a connection. i read somwhere that potentially flashing faux kernel would help, but I'm s on and not certain I can flash kernels effectively out of TWRP. Any help will be greatly appreciated. And just so you know, there is one thread mentioning the kernel fix but no response from the op as to whether it worked. Is this Rom still supported? Perhaps I just need to go another direction

Well speed rom definitely has no problems like that. I think it's because of your recovery and being s on. When you're s on I don't think recoveries will flash. You should switch to 4ext since the smart flash option lets you override s on. But I highly recommend s off though. Speed Rom isn't supported anymore anyway by Eclipze so that's likely why you didn't get your answer.
When you flashed, did you wipe everything?
Did you flash a kernel after you flashed speed rom? It probably gave you an error since you're s on.
So what I'd do is either go s off (recommended), or just get 4ext. How about both? If you get 4ext then your backups won't work since they aren't compatible. And also enable smartflash so you can flash custom kernels while s on.
Also be sure to check out my rom I made (Kaioken Rom) in the development section.

I didn't flash a kernel. Extreme noob so not sure how to go about s off. I assume if I go with 4ext: all need to flash back to stock first so I can make a new recovery prior to flashing a rom. How's battery life on your rom

also if I flash 4ext using Hanson's toolkit will I need to delete twrp or will it give me a choice of which recovery to boot to

The battery life on my rom is excellent so far. It's even better than speed ROM's battery even though my rom has faux 24 built in and over clocked. I haven't even under clocked yet!
What you should do is go to the general section and read the guide that aj made, there is also hasoons toolkit I'm the development section so you can flash 4ext with that. That's a very easy way.
Once you flash 4ext, make sure you enable smartflash. On twrp you can't flash kernels while s on, that's why people think 4ext is superior.
If you didn't flash a kernel then being s on probably caused the problem if speed rom has a custom kernel. S on blocks the custom kernel, so smartflash and s off fix that problem.

If I want to install 4ext via hansoons toolkit do I delete twrp or how do I establish which covert to use? Also I thought if I used the toolkit I'd be perm rot but after runner ng root checker last night there is a problem with my root. Is that all related to being s onn and what is son vs s off in layman's terms?
Regarding this WiFi calling, can one turn it off after installing. I only want it when I have no regular cell signal.

When you flash a new recovery, the recovery your phone already had is replaced with the new recovery, so you do not have to delete anything, as it is done automatically.
Done properly you can easily have perm root without S-Off.
Try this newer toolkit instead--I think it also explains how to flash a different recovery, such as 4EXT:

In the ROM I use, Android Revolution HD 5, in the network settings wifi calling can be disabled as easily as clicking a check box like other settings that toggle. I suspect that's the case with any ROM.

Thanks. I have looked everywhere I an think of, but no toggle. It was there in the stock ROM. When I click on the "with fi calling ready" notification it takes me to the network settings, but there are none. Is there perhaps a way to just uninstall this zip?

I apologize, seems it's missing.
You can read this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44265984&postcount=116
and this--from a search for "wifi calling" in the speedrom thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52185080&postcount=4067
According to this post, it's been removed from the version in this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25399375&postcount=3
You can also turn off wifi when you are making calls.
To romove it, I used titanium backup and un-installed the wifi settings and the ims service. Fixed it for me. thanks for your help.
works
