My brother has bought a Sony Tablet however he has setup up a screenlock PIN/Password and subsequently forgotten it.
The tablet is more or less brand new and I doubt he even managed to get Google Play setup with a password.
He is going to confirm what model it is once he gets home tonight but on the assumption that all recent Sony tablets will be similar I am going to ask for help now. As it is brand new data loss is not an issue.
This probably looks like I am trying to access a stolen unit but believe me my brother is not capable of stealing a tablet. I nearly ctied when I saw his Facebook post telling everyone he was buying a tablet in Paris!! He is an IT numpty.
I have a couple of questions:
1. How does he perform a Factory Reset in order to start again. The instructions in the Manual (from Sony website) are aimed at doing the reset from within Jelly Bean.
2. He bought the unit in Paris because it was a gift for his French speaking wife. I suspect that I may have to help him set it up properly when he next visits the UK (they live in West Africa so all my support is via phone and email). Can I switch the OS language to English in order to get the various accounts setup and then switch it back to French?
1: To do a factory reset hold volume up then hit the power button. Keep holding the volume up and you will get into recovery where you can do a factory reset.
2: Yes you should be able to setup in one language the go into language and input in the settings menu and change to another.

I sent my I/O tablet to Samsung for repairing a hardware defect (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1272086). I got it back today and now it's stuck in some factory mode. There is a lock displaying at the bottom of the screen during boot-up. I have an app called factory mode that seems to launch some sort of calculator. I am unable to lock the screen at all now. No matter what lock screen setting I try the screen never locks. Pushing the power button powers down the device in an instant. No more popup asking if I want to power down. I've tried a factory reset, but during the reset it's complaining about not having access to some directory. After the factory reset runs its course I'm back to square one. I'm not asked to setup wifi, create an account or anything. I'll obviously call Samsung support tomorrow to find out how the hell I get out of this factory mode. But in the meantime has anybody seen this type of behavior after getting their tablet back from Samsung support?
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
Samsung wants me to send the tab back to them cause they don't give out the engineering codes to get it out of factory mode. Honestly I find this rather ridiculous. I use this thing for development for christ sake. I really don't want to sent it back to them again being without a tab for another few weeks. If anyone knows the magic code to get the tab out of factory mode please pm me.
Thanks.
I need that Code aswell
Yeah I need that code to get out of factory mode aswell as I have the same issue.
Thanks
Which is amazing because they keep sending unusable tablets back to people after repairs. For me they set a password and I had to use ODIN to flash the original 3.0 I/O rom on it. Wouldn't even let me wipe portions in recovery.

man it is annoying i got the same problem. Anyone got the solution?
This is the exact issue I have, so this can't be cured by flashing old firmwares eh? Any solutions?
Btw, I have the 10.1 P7510 retail, not the Google I/O edition.

Got my Tab Fixed by Samsung Service Centre, In my case it was caused by missing IMEI and Serial Number.
I have the same problem, factory mode, and i already know that it is because of missing IMEI and efs folder on my tab. I have imei number on my box, isn't it possible to recover it using my imei number by myself?
the way i understand this is only samsung can take out the factory mode. so it happens on 3G tab as well, how did you get the "factory mode" in the first place?

HI,
just yesterday a bought a galaxy tab 10. gt-p7510 kernel 2.6.36.3
everything was going ok but then i struck on a major problem(s)
it seems that changes made in the settings menu are not beeing saved. for example i tried to change the screen timeout time into 5 minutes, went back to home but the change has not been saved.
same thing happened with changing the language from english into dutch and changing the wallpaper.
changes made in some apps in downloaded are still there without any problems.
anyone who know's how to solve this problem?
Ive never seen this in any of my phones or tabs...

Have you tried to do a full reset? I noticed that some tablets have been 'factory-tested' and never been reset to original state. Mind you, all your apps will need to be re-installed. Make sure you have some form of backup of your personal data (slightly harder for non-rooted devices) before doing this.
Are you using pure stock everything, and not rooted you SGT?
Worst case scenario: exchange (after resetting to factory state) your P7510 for a new one, as you are even within the first 14 days of purchase and shops will exchange, no questions asked, within that period.
Hi,
just bought the tablet 2 days ago so a full reset is a option i'm going to try. I was planning to get this tablet rooted but if this problem stays i'm off to the store next week to get a exhange...
thanks for your help!
problem solved, just a quick factory reset did the trick!
Questions go in the Q&A section
I bought my Tablet S yesterday and applied the 4.0.3 OTA update overnight so I can't say whether it was caused by the update or not, but here's what happens:
My phone keeps reverting back to PIN unlock. I never set it to PIN unlock before, and even when I change it back to slide unlock, after a little while it'll be back to PIN unlock.
Hi poebae,
that's a strange bevaior. Since u just bought ur tablet I'd assume u dont have much on it by now. So I'd factory reset it and see if it'll solve my problem.
Outta curiosity, how the hell do you get back in your tablet if it sets a PIN code you dont know?
Are you syncing corporate email? Some companies configure the exchange server to require Android and iOS phones to add extra security and one of those security options is to require a PIN.
However, it should have alerted you and prompted you to set the PIN rather than just changing the setting.

Yep, I ended up just doing a factory reset and that seems to have solved it.

I just used '0000'. I either got lucky and guessed the PIN that the original owner used (I bought it second hand), or that's some kind of default code.

Nope, not syncing corporate e-mail, but thank you for the suggestion!

Wasn't the phone from a German carrier if you reset to German every time?
Try booting up after a factory reset and choose the language of choice with Sense.
If really picky, root and install CyanogenMod and it defaults to English with a language selection screen.

ok. buddy, according to my experience, i judge that the power or motherboard flex cable ribbon may be have some problem, you should save your phone by sending it to phone hospital. you sholu not fix your cellphone by yourself, it is easy to break it.
Hello Guys
I bought my Z5c in November 2015. Until Thursday it had been working fine. We all know about battery drain and all that but actually the phone was working. I personally like the phone a lot.
On Monday July 31st, I updated to Nougat 7.1.1. Everything was OK. On Thursday Morning the back / home / recent buttons were not working.
I already tried:
- Safe mode (the problem is still there)
- Factory reset
- Software repair (Xperia Companion)
- Flashed the phone and changed CDA to another region. I could not downgrade
I don't think this is a hardware issue because the buttons work in the lockscreen and in landscape mode. It just doesn't work in portrait mode.
This made the phone unusable. My phone company gave me a Sony Xperia XA for $47 for now.
The Z5c was purchased unlocked.
I really need your help please
Thanks
What can I do in this case? I don't think there's a Sony repair center in my country
hi... I have exact same problem..! plz help...
Plz help someone
.....
I am running lineage 14.1 and still there is problem. It works OK in recovery
Hi
I've got the same issue with my wife's Z5C. The navigation buttons are totally unresponsive! Phone is not rooted, so I have no idea if they work in recovery or not. But the buttons DO work if I put phone into landscape mode with Sony logo to the right, but not with the logo to the left?!?
I'm stumped here, so please provide some feedback please...
Meanwhile I'll reset phone with PC Companion and maybe later I'll downgrade a few builds...
//Johan
UPDATE:
Downgraded to .160 (Generic AU) but no luck. I think this phone is toast, but the weird thing is that according to built-in diagnostics, the surfaces where the back/home/recents button are located are all functioning properly. Any thoughts?
The easy solution is to install an alternative from play store and see if it works or if you are still covered by the warranty just send it to Sony...
The 'get your hands dirty' option...
Has anyone tried flashing their phone using the flashtool http://www.flashtool.net/ ?
It Sounds to me like you are facing a software bug that would disappear if you perform a clean installation of android...
What exactly happened? Provide us with more info....
unfortunately, i act in assumption, this is a hardware issue like seen often on the z3c. The digitizer is broken at these positions. it happens often at the home/back buttons and at the pull down menu.
You can verify this by activating the glove modus (hope this is the right translation of the german Handschuhmodus) which indicates, where exactly you are hitting the touchscreen.
- fix is to replace the touchscreen.
- workarounds are to activate display rotation (and then rotate so that the buttons are appearing at the upper (right) side of the display
- activate the glove modus - i can actually still hit the buttons at their corners
-use the "Back Button" app to generate additional menu buttons.
- move the buttons with Google ADP tools
(i'm actually not allowed to post links, google for it in the official z3c Sony support forum)
Did you ever resolve this? I've come across the same problem (running stock Android 7.1.1).
Went through all reset procedures, safe mode, screen tests etc.
Seeing the same result as you - this area of the screen works fine when locked, but when unlocked it's unresponsive.
I've done a full factory reset on it, just to determine if that'll fix it - no luck.
I would love to know more about why this is thought to be a hardware issue, when the hardware concerned works fine to unlock the phone.
My next step will be flashing a custom ROM, see if that fixes it. Any other hints / tips / clues / suggestions more than welcome!
