ROM Request: Full S4 Experience on Samsung Galaxy S2 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello fellow citizens of the world. I'm sorry if this is not the place for this kind of post, but I tried to find other places to post but none seemed right for this post, so I decided to post here. I would like to ask any developer for a request on a ROM for Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-i9100.
As many of you know, Galaxy S4 recently came to the market, and I bet I am not the only one who like the looks and functions of it. Even though Samsung have their own special version/edition of 4.2.2, I think it is pretty nice.
I have a request for a custom Samsung Galaxy i9100 ROM, based on the S4's i9505XXUAMDE, A.K.A. S4's 4.2.2
I would like to have as many of the functions as possible, especially the status bar with all the options, expandable notifications (etc.), and the TouchWiz launcher.
(Yes, I have searched the web for anything like this)
I'm sure there are more people out there who would love a ROM like this. Feel free to add anything you think might fit and be nice as well.
Thanks in advance.

Hate to break it to you, but a couple of things:-
1) Devs generally don't read Q&A much.
2) Devs don't do requests unless it relates to something they're already working on or want to work on for themselves.
So the TL;DR is, if you want a rom like that, you probably want to learn to code & make it yourself. Doesn't matter how many people you get in this thread saying 'We want blah blah blah', it doesn't work like that. XDA isn't a democracy.

Will the Galaxy S2 get CM?

I'd really like to get the Galaxy S2, but not without Cyanogen Mod support. What do you think are the chances that the Galaxy S2 will get CM? The Galaxy S still has no stable CM Rom.
Does a bear **** in the woods?

Polar bears don't.
But why doesn't the Galaxy S have a stable CM ROM then?
Stock Media Codecs > CM
if they find a way to keep all the goodies from Samsung then I'm all for it
Frankly, I don't care about the Samsung programmes. If it can be turned off, then ok, but I'd rather have the whole CM experience.
This hardly seems like the right forum for this thread...
So what's the right forum, if not the Galaxy S II Android Development Forum?
Android Development should only contain threads based on actual projects/ROMs/kernels/etc being developed. Discussions about what may or may not be coming to the device should go in general. Best rule of thumb in my book: if you're not actually developing something yourself, a thread shouldn't be started here.
Sorry if I came off like a prick - I just know that this ends up becoming more work for the mods who have to comb through and move threads around.
Also I apologize for theoretically hijacking your thread - Just trying to help keep people in the know
hopefully it will get CM
i really cant stand touchwiz

No problem, I didn't know that.
Maybe a moderator can move the thread into the appropriate forum.
What I really like to know is why the Galaxy S still hasn't got a stable release. Is this also to be expected with the S2?

I agree. Good post, and yes, this should have been in General. Just keep that in mind for the next time We are all excited for this phone, and i personally think that Samsung stock ROM is also quite good. However, to each his own, and I am sure that CM will be out for this phone too
Cheers!

The SGS2 is similar to the SGS in many ways, therefore CM will be difficult to port over.
Especially that there is no Nexus S 2 (a lot of CM7 is from the Nexus S)
Don't expect CM7+ to be running on the SGS2 anytime soon, although it probably eventually will. That's unless anything else happen (a/a genius comes along b/samsung open source more stuff c/Nexus S 2 is released d/sgs2 shares even more with the sgs than I though and current work can be ported over more easily)
This phone is fast enough without CM7. A clean up of the stock ROM, a new launcher and its sweet enough!

It will still miss the CM Tweaks.
A shame that Cyanogen has chosen the G2x as his next phone. The Galaxy S2 is way better than the G2x.

i'm not aware of the history, why exactly was it difficult to bring cyanogen to the original galaxy s, and hence this SGS2 as well? wasnt it like any other phone, the source was released, and cm team built from that?

Buy the devs a SGS 2 and they can work on it . Bit hard to work on a phone you dont have .

Oddly enough, there's actually an entire section of subforums here dedicated to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Your query may be better served there...
Though really, if you used the search function you would quickly find answers to what you're asking. Oh, look!
As for any questions that start with "What is the best...?", don't bother asking. Everyone has a different opinion on what ROM, kernel, radio, theme, phone, etc is best. Try them out and decide for yourself what works best for you.

root after upgrading to ICS

I upgraded to the official ICS through kies, and have to say am not impressed at all by it. I waited for the official update and didnt root my phone to get ICS earlier. so now since i dislike the official, i want to go with a custom. now i have never rooted a phone before, but i have found some steps online on how to root a galaxy s2. The link is galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-root/how-to-root-ics-on-att-galaxy-s2-sgh-i777/
I have heard there are many ways to root the same device, where one may work better than another. So should i follow these steps, or does anyone recommend another way? is it even true there are more than one ways to root?
I'm just used to iphones one click jailbreaks.
I searched the forums but it seems no one really needs help with simple rooting anymore. My goal is to install Google Now onto my device. Thanks.

I'm sorry but everything is wrong about your post. You need to do some research before you root. NEVER use galaxys2root.com for anything. Google now only fully works on jellybean and until those roms come out you're out of luck.

I did alot of research, i didnt know galaxys2root wasnt a trustworthy site. Can you please recommend another way i could root after upgrading to official ICS? I have read a few articles about a port onto ICS devices. But if you dont recommend to do that just yet, i still want to flash a custom rom onto my device. i really hate the official at&t ics compared to the customs i have tried on other peoples phones.
I have read articles of how to root on here as well, but they are years old so im not sure if they are still the best method and are compatible for ICS.

got my answer forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746181 .if i dont know which kernel to choose should i be rooting my device? after rreading i was thinking to go with NEAK but then there are more options for AOSP/AOKP kernel, WITH mic swap, and WITHOUT mic swap. I know for i777 i need a without mic swap kenel, but whats the difference if i do the AOSP/AOKP kernel from the mic swaps?

Any of the four kernels linked in the OP of the thread you referenced will do. I don't think there are any other appropriate kernels anyway.
The kernel you need will be no mike swap, since this is not a converted I9100 rom. And it must work with Samsung roms, so AOSP/AOKP only kernels will not work.
It doesn't really matter much which one you choose, if you are going to flash a rom, since the rom will come with the rom developers preferred kernel anyway.

The i9100 ROMS that are ported to the i777 need the mic swap because the i9100 mics and ear piece are swapped. So you don't have to talk in to the ear piece on the i777....

I'm strangely happy about finding galaxys2root... I wished I'd started here so that my understanding of rooting , kernels, roms and all the tips and tricks made some sort of sense to me....
With that said w/o the sells pitch of the AOKP and the video from that website I wouldn't have chanced "brick'n" my GS2(at&ti777) for the AOKP and luckily i got it working and love it so much it had me searching more about it and found XDA; TASK650, WONNER... I'd love to say I'm going to read 1000's of post a day to get caught up to speed but there's going to be probably 10X more post a day than i can read so I'll just keep falling behind...
What I'd like to know is now that someone(me) has done the half/hazard root job and has a functioning rom/phone... exactly in really boring spoon feeding language and pretty pictures go about getting everything needed to get to the latest kernels/roms for AOKP
Here's my current settings thanks to outdated rootgs2....

You shouldn't install fluxi until you know why you want it.
In the mean time, the kernel you installed with your AOKP is just fine.

WELCOME! I see alot of noobs here and i would suggest that you take some time to READ READ READ, here on xda. There are stickies in every sub-section worth reading. ALL.. and i mean ALL your questions have been asked at least 1000 times, any information you need is right here in these threads. You will def. get ALOT more help if you just take your time and read the threads, We were all noobs once... and for gods sake use the thanks button if someone has given you information, or helped in anyway!
If i were to recommend a rom to anyone that wants the ICS experience, i would have to go with TASK650&Ktoonsez AOKP. It is simple enough for someone who is new to set up and as you learn more things you will be able to discover you can pretty much customize anything you'd like with it. As far as Kernels go, everyone experiences different results. One may yield great battery life and be as smooth as butter for me, and the same one might not play nice with yours. So the best advice is to Flash all of them (not at once:laugh and let it settle in (usually like 3 charge cycles) and make your decision off of that.
Hope this helps some...
Thanks for the input... I'd only seen one thing that made me want aokp without a clue of what else it may have/do. After installing it... I needed private time alone with all of the wonderful finger strokes I'd given my screen
I'll reluctantly read what I can find on what the geek the flux capacitor does... but please feel free to give out the high lights to why you have it or had it installed and if there's reasons you don't have it any more then number one con to not use the fluxster.
Thanks again xda masters!

A few ROM Questions..

Hello all, been on these forums a while but never really posted that much, never posted in the Galaxy S3 section. I originally started with a Galaxy S2, then went to a HTC One X and I'm not firmly back with the device that i love, the Galaxy S3, however...
I'm a stock person, but i love tweaks/mods, the reason i love Stock so much on the Galaxy S3 is the Smart-stay feature (i don't believe its on any of the custom Roms for the GS3??) and the Multi Window (again i don't believe its available on any custom Roms?).. so I'm wondering if there are any Roms that either keep the two features i love the most in them, and have some nice tweaks/mods. :good:
I'm grateful in advanced to anyone who replies with help

Yep , all features are in custom rom's. Im in uk and there was no update for the phone so I was without stay smart, multiwindows etc but now all is here. Look for best rom that suits you as i already tried 4 different before choosing The One.

If you want(not wants) that notification bar,the best solution is to buy a Touchwiz UX 2 enabled Samsung device(as the S4).
I saw a similar mod for Galaxy S with Cyanogenmod 10.1.If you are using this Custom ROM,it may work, but not sure.

I'm not being "harsh", I'm being realistic. People buy phones they want and phones they CAN afford. They didn't settle for less because they were forced to. I appreciate the gesture of replying but if you really are a serious enthusiast about android then you wouldn't say that. Although I can't agree that the best solution is to buy a newer-gen device just for a feature that can easily be replicated. I can do the same on PAC-ROM with NO code changes and just a few PNGs to make the "look" as for making it work for STOCK 4.1.2, Here's what I got: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2315342
You're Welcome. The title says it's for GB but someone made it work for ICS(4.0+) which has a similar code base to JB(4.1) I'm not sure but that's what the OP has posted. The OP also said that he may be supporting JB 4.1 "soon" I can only speculate because I haven't tried it firsthand because I have no free time.

You are right,I'm not an Android enthusiast, that's why I'm the one who's realistic.Even with those code and .png changes, these don't look like on a device that supports natively that feature(not so polished). That's why,by comparaison, the best solution is to get a device that supports natively that feature(only if you have money). And he made that guide for JB 4.1.2 too.
I wasn't replying like an iPhone owner, but to get a feature to look perfectly like S4's,for example,is hard, because that feture is originaly made by a team of developers that are paid to make it work and look very good.
I will try when i'm back from vacation
