note root problems 4.0

alright so after searching both here and various other sites on this question i have found nothing very helpfull...
so at the risk of being told i need to search i have to ask. I have a ATT Galaxy note I717. I did get the OTA update to 4.0. I have not yet rooted my phone but im trying to do so. Mostly so i can flash t-mobile onto it for it work properly with my 4G.
So my question is. Were is the root process for a note that already has 4.0.
I followed other instructions here http://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-note-sgh-i717-att-clockworkmod-touch-recovery-90018/ and here http://rootgalaxynote.com/galaxy-note-root/how-to-root-galaxy-note-gt-n7000-method-2odinheimdall/.
After installing such CMW Touch i can not get it to boot to recovery. Just goes into download mode and as welll as i do not have superuser or root acces on the phone. If any one knows where i can find the procedure to gain full root access so i may start playing around that would be greatly appreciated

The second link you provided was for the International Note. That may be the problem. Use the method here: http://rootgalaxynote.com/galaxy-no...y-note-sgh-i717-icsgingerbreadeasiest-method/. I know for a fact this procedure works, as I have done it on my own Note no less than a dozen times due to the problem in my thread.
Good luck and happy rooting!
Devices:
Samsung Galaxy Note SGH-I717: Android 4.0.4, Stock, Rooted
Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 YP-G70: Android 2.3.5, Stock, Rooted
Samsung Galaxy Tab Plus 7.0 GT-P6210: Android 4.0.4, Stock, Rooted
Asus Transformer Prime TF201: Android 4.0.3, Stock
Asus Nexus 7, 16 GB: Android 4.1.1, Stock, Rooted
It says for ginger bread rooting. I am running 4.0 and do not wish to go back to 3. Will i keep my current 4.0 with that method or will it be flashed back to ICS
nvm do appologize,,, just caught my own noob mistake... lol
seeing that you have used this method before... when i go to flash the zip file it gives me an error and says it fails... yet i have super user and root acces on the phone now?
You don't have to root your phone to flash a modem. You don't need to have CWM to flash a modem either.
You can install the modem using Odin3 and your pc.
Agreed ....
Thank you ranger ....g

[Q] Root Samsung s3 (i9300)

Hi all and thanks for the precious and detailed information you posted in the Forum.
I am quite new with Samsung (Android).
Just left the other World few months ago.
I was using the iPhone and switched to Android because of different considerations like battery, higher display, etc.
I am interested in ROOTing my device (Samsung S3 - GTI9300 International).
May I ask you a couple of questions about this step?
- The ROOT process will remove my installed applications
- After ROOTing the GooglePlay will still be available to update my Applications
- Future FIRMWARES update from Samsung will be available also for ROOTed devices
- unROOTing the device means (easily) reinstall the original FIRMARE or there is an easier step
Many thanks for your (all) help!!!
Happy Android
It depends of how you root it (if you install acustom rom or not) but if it's only the root itself it will not change your phone at all, still your apps, google play working.
But you'll not be able to change firmware with kies, only with flashing new roms. Also unrooting is not hard, and everything is really weel explain on the s3 forum here in XDA

I am just starting.
Interested in ROOT process only by now and of course the unROOT step after.
I will check the S3 forum as per your kind suggestion.
Trying in a while to load and use a "Custom Rom".
Thanks a lot for your replay!!!!!

[Q] Rooted 4.4.2, what next?

Hey all,
I was recently given the Verizon galaxy note 2, the phone already had the stock 4.4.2 nd7 installed, after some digging I was able to root using Ghettoroot v0.2.2
I just came from the galaxy s3 and am comfortable with CWM and Odin and what not, but am definitely still a noob with the galaxy note 2.
The main question is, am I going to be able to flash a custom rom or a new kernel or anything fun with this? or did I basically just gain root access for apps and stuff only?
Any other recommendations are more than appreciated...

Can't flash custom recoveries with just root on Note 2 i605. You have to have an unlocked bootloader which hasn't been achieved from 4.3 and up on this phone. So no custom roms or kernels.

Yes you can downgrade from lollipop to kit kat. Doing so does not effect the knox bootloader. Neither does rooting, only installing a recovery will. So if you were to want to root your phone so you can install a custom rom, you would need to install custom recovery to install the rom. This would trip the knox bootloader and void your warrenty. Im not sure if you lease your phone from tmobile, but if you do, you might want to reconsider custom roms, unless you intend on keeping the phone and not turning it back it for an upgrade. As far as rooting 5.0 lollipop im not sure. Im only speaking of my experience downgrading from 5.0 to kit kat. I hope this helps

Root UVU1DOB1 Android 5.0 on T-Mobile Galaxy S5 G900T Official Firmware
i got lollipop yesterday and i just did this 5 minutes ago. works perfectly. the only prerequisite is that you have to flash a custom recovery and immediately boot to the recovery to apply the zip

i just updraded to ob1 5.0 today and have since rooted it. took no time at all following the instructions listed in the link. now my question is can i run custom roms with the upgraded baseband and what not. would love to try some new roms on my shiny new s5
yeah, there's a couple. i ran cm12 for a bit but i had serious problems with bluetooth sound quality (dropped out every 3-5 seconds). i almost broke my S5 because of it. i've since downgraded again. i need touchwiz so i don't lose the fingerprint and other TW specific features, but right now there's no great way to incorporate xposed.. well, someone was hacking something, but i stopped following..
so essentially just hold and wait for something to be done. im loving my s5 but just want to increase battery life and maybe increase performance a bit. other than that i prefer tw and most stock files and features
I am on stock DOB1 now after bricking my phone a month ago.
Any idea if there are any stable Lollipop AOSP ROMs out there that work with the DOB1 Modems/BL?
I kinda want to try Sonic Kang. It looks pretty solid to me!
Does this root method trip knox? No recovery just root

It does if it flashes a custom bootloader or kernel.
Is this the case no matter what version OS of the phone you have?

[Q] Cyanogenmod on Samsung Mega

First post! So I have a Galaxy Mega (SGH-i527m) and I want to install Cyanogenmod on it. It's rooted using Kingo, and I haven't modded a phone since the Note 1 so I'm a little rusty on how to do it. :silly:
Are there any thorough tutorials on how to do it on this particular phone? Also any Cyanogenmod link I find has been removed, found a very useful thread on here but his links went dead in 2014
No there isn't. My GF has the same phone and there is not unlock for the bootloader and with out that no custom recovery. Even kingo root doesn't completely work 100% of the time.
