Hello there,
I don't know if I should be asking this here as I'm new to the XDA Forums.
Basically I am an owner of a Galaxy S2 and I've recently downgraded from 4.1.2 Jellybean to 2.3.4 Gingerbread.
I've noticed a massive increase in battery life, my usage has been about the same, if not probably more and it's holding out longer.
What I'm asking is, is the older versions of android better for battery life?
Many thanks
Kieran
Generally older versions of Android contain less functionality / less services so they are using less resources of the phone and so the battery lasts longer ...

I'm currently on KE2 firmware, if I upgrade to the latest version does it improve battery life or not?
To be honest, there won't be any major battery life improvements for at least 4 or 5 firmware updates, or even the release of Android 2.3.4. The current Android OS doesn't really support dual core handsets well.
2.3 is surely better than 2.2 for dualcore devices. did you ever tried a LG 2X?
Multiple posts on battery life with the same conclusion .
Set-up up phone not to use stuff all the time for better battery life .

I've noticed that when i flashed my SII with another Stock Kernel version than the one that came with the device battery life is much better , and no more unusual battery drain over night when in low signal areas , how is this possible considering both are stock and non modified only different versions ?
Because they're different, so they will be modified, just by samsung, not the devs here.

i just have one question in mind . will the jellybean update solve the battery drain problems in s3? i dont want to take chances to root the phone as i prefer waiting for the JB official update!
What battery drains???

Unfortunatly,Google isn't gonna fix battery drain on S3's devices until the release of it's latest Android Version 4.2 Key Lime Pie as i read on Android with me website Google will launch with Android 4.2 a Project known as Project Roadrunner which means increased FPS NDLR and improved battery life with a significant amount better than any other previous Android version including JellyBean.Hope this helps!
I am getting a reasonable battery life on stock ics and the leaks had slightly better battery life as well... so I assume the official release will have a better battery life than the stock ics..

JB didnt fix battery life..for my experience, ICS have longer battery life than JB.
Hello all,
I have a question for you all:
I have flashed a new rom today and have decided to NOT activate Google Now, and (after a few hours only), I seem to see a much better battery use?
Is it possible that this app, being monitoring so much all the time hoggs the battery quite a lot?
So, placebo effect or not?
Certainly possible I suppose, but I haven't noticed it drawing a significant amount of juice on my S3 or my Note 2.
I've had Now running in the background on my Note 2 for over 9 hours and the battery is still at 92% (minimal usage, just on WiFi), and while I'm getting tired of being notified about the ManU match, it doesn't seem to be drawing an inordinate about of power to run.
Is the new ROM you flashed using a different kernel or a newer revision of your previous kernel? In my experience, that's been the biggest factor in terms of power consumption.

Well, I am using temasek's CM10 Kang (70 I believe, latest anyway)
and with the kernel that came with it.
I ve tried other AOSP kernel, but no boot at all, so...
What I think is that XXDLIB modem does has a noticeable effect on good reception over here, so maybe that s the factor here?
hello everyone,
i have a galaxy s3 i9300 with android 4.3 installed.i noticed that the battery suddenly drains faster than before.i bought a new original battery and the phone was fine for a while and than the drainage began again.i replaced it with a another new one and that didn't help either.i would appreciate your help.going half crazy.i did not notice some app that woud cause the drain.suggestions??
@zoro863: means 'original battery' from Samsung? Amazon fe offers many of these, all called and look original, for ~15€, but they are badder.
it is an original one i bought from a respected shop
@zoro863: there's written very much about battery-items. To decide, if your drain is caused by hard- or software, I advice to flash NCSROM (hardly debloated actual firmware, which I always use as reference): use it with governor zzmoove /battery plus whithout any apps added, for 2d. Expect SOT~6h. If less, it's hardware caused.
