Viewpad 7a 'Enhanced' (RC1)
Viewpad 7a is a quick and dirty modification of the stock firmware from Viewsonic. This should be a decent alternative to the stock image, with improved performance and appearance.
Highlights:
- Removed the 'Welcome' logo and replaced with stock android boot animation.
- Replaced stock boot image with overclocked version: Credit goes to TJ Style @ Modaco.
- Minor framework modifications (got rid of annoying white status bar, and misc images).
- All packaged applications remain, but I will add or remove any upon request.
- Enabled hardware acceleration.
Notes:
- Firmware should work with compatible devices such as: Cherry Mobile Superion, Commtiva Linx N700, Olivepad VT-100, Spice MI700, and Camangi FM600....but I do not have these devices, so I cannot verify. As always make a backup before installing any custom firmwares.
Known Issues:
- You may receive an error from Swype upon initial use to the effect that 'it's not meant for this firmware and may be limited'. I haven't had any issues since seeing this, and have disregarded it for the time being.
- Root condition has been known to intermittently go away. Remedy this by running Super One Click again after you've flashed the ROM.

I'm currently working on a Vanilla AOSP port of Gingerbread for this device, and this will be the main focus of my effort. I will try my best to answer any bug reports or requests for changes to this firmware, but won't make any promises.
As always a big thanks to everyone in the Android community that shares they're knowledge and support.
To install this firmware use ClockworkMod to flash the zip file. (I use version 2.5.1.2). Information on rooting and installing an alternative recovery partition is available here.

Update (August 22nd, 2011): I've deactivated the download link until I get time to put out a better update with ITE support.
If I am not wrong this device is similar to Commtiva N700/ Spice Mi-700/ Olive Pad VT-100.
Nice to hear someone taking the initiative for development on this device
I've added the compatible devices I'm aware of to the first post. I may take advantage of CM scripting in the Gingerbread port. Will update when I have time. I've attached a screenshot from the froyo firmware below if anyone is interested.
I've been using it for the past two days without any issues. I borrowed a SIM card from a friend today to test the data connectivity and call function. Both work flawlessly. The battery life isn't as good with the CPU overclocked, but it's worth it for the extra boost of performance.
I was planning to get this device with my first salary which is few months from now
BTW, To make things easier you can use Cyanogen 7 which I think is having support for similar hardware.
Can MeeGo 1.2 be ported for this Device?
It will be releasing this April.

Looks good.
But I prefer Android with its vanilla looks.
Can LCD density be used with this Tablet? does it work?
Please check that out.
Nice to see someone finally making a custom ROM for this device. Would be nice to have something like HyperDroidGBX for the HD2 using AOSP, Redux, CyanogenMod.... that's one hell of a nice piece of Gingerbread.
Hopefully the Viewpad 7 will get its own sub-forum and your ROM will be the first in it.
Cheers!

I don't know enough about MeeGo to comment, but I imagine it is possible...just not sure how feasible or worthwhile it would be to port it.

I think if there's enough community interest XDA may create a dedicated forum for these devices. We'll see.
Thank you for your work. On the Russian forum owners viewpad 7 Your beginnings of this work has generated enormous interest. Would you in their versions of the firmware to include more locations? Good luck in your work. Sorry for the English.

Adding a Russian keyboard and locales would not be difficult if you know of another ROM that is using them in Froyo, or perhaps someone has them on a repo somewhere?
Great to see this!
I just bought a Viewpad for my wife, so this is perfect!

I have clockworkmod recovery installed, works, and overclock boot.img installed works too.
My VIEWPAD 7 has still stock ROM with Chinese handwriting touch, if I flash this custom ROM, do I loss Chinese handwriting function ?
Does all wifi, bluetooth, GPS, 3G network, multi-touch remain the same ?
Also, I am looking for App2SD script, to extend my internal /data/apps -> mSD card (ext2/3/4) paritition too.
thanks, cheers

I order a viewpad 7 from amazon on saturday. I had some concern about it and was wondering if I made the right choice. Now that I see that you are working on increasing its performance, I feel comfortable with my choice now.
I install gappinstaller v5 on a archos 70 and 101 with no problem by following the step by step direction. I dont have my viewpad 7 as yet but I hope the installation goes smoothly. I donate
I flashed it to a WellcoM A800 and the GSM radio doesn't work anymore. Whatever I do it indicates that I'm in airplane mode. I tried with three different SIM cards with the same result.
Please advise...
Thanks

The ViewPad finally arrived this morning. Got it all rooted, CWM'd and the ROM installed.
Nice work!
The wife will love it when she gets home tonight!
I'll definately let you know if I come up with any suggestions.
Well, one suggestion now:
move all the non-essential apps from system to data so they're easily removable.
Actually I can do that myself in a little bit...
Looking forward to Gingerbread!
Thanks again!
I've been using Android for quite some time on my phone but im used to an update-process involving archive-files on CWM.
Now i just bought myself a new Tablet by Hyundai digital, the A7HD and the update is supplied in .img format.
to be precise:
RKS7S01_A7HD_20120420.img
and now im not entirely sure how to flash this, since all instructions come in chinese/korean and i am unable to understand them.
About the System itself:
Allwinner A10 CPU
with Android 4.0.3
Kernel version 3.0.8
You should check http://www.flashmyandroid.com/forum/showthread.php?730-ROM-Hyundai-A7-HD-Firmware-ICS-4-03-20120420/ . Although you have to register.
Actually, im already a member there.
See the fourth post in the thread you linked me to?
Thats me.
Same Username i use on XDA, as well.
Im the one who discovered the "Safe Mode"-boot and the hidden Recovery Menu on the A7HD.
Lol, didn't notice about it. A7HD's community is not as large as I'd thought to, but is growing. In htcmania we've got custom ROM's already by a begginer cook!
Is it called Onix 0.2.1 by any chance?
If so... Thats the Firmware i am using.
And its quite a good start, cant wait to see what he will end up doing with it.
PS: I managed to install Firmwares onto my A7HD now.
Once i found out how to do it, i wrote a Tutorial, so everyone who doesn't know how to, can find out how i did it here:
http://www.flashmyandroid.com/forum/showthread.php?838-TUT-How-to-update-the-Hyundai-A7HD
Yes it is. It's quite good, though there are some bugs that came from the original one.
For example, the change from portrait to landscape with no reason when changing from one app to another.

Hello Oma, first of all thanks for your work. I flashed ROM for my Yuandao N101 II tab based ono your work I got from VonDroid - unfortunately the touch screen didn't work. It worked neither with your rom nor with the newes original firmware. As this was described by some other folks there - for some specific sub-model maybe - and as the touchscreen works with an older stock-rom - this seems to be software-related.
Is there any possibility to overcome this issue? The firmware that is working gives me infrequent hangs for no reason and was described as buggy by other users, too.
Thanks a lot in advance for your help

Again the unresponsive touch screen
Hi @ all, as specified in my last post there is a difficulty with the touchscreen with a version of omars great fw that has been ported to VonDroid with minour changes. So, to find out if my tablet's touchscreen can work with this fw, I dug a bit deeper and located the touch screen driver.
input: Goodix Capacitive TouchScreen as
/devices/virtual/input/input3
<<-GTP-INFO->> GTP Driver Version:V1.0<2012/05/01>
<<-GTP-INFO->> GTP chip version:GT81XNI_3R19_000
The only documentation I could find so far is that documentation for this device is lousy and chaotic as is supply with drivers... seems to be quite a fair description. Until now, I found no way to locate additional hints about what touch screen might be built in my tab. Neither online nor on the tablet itself.
Anyhow, some questions came to my mind on and on again, as the last fw supporting the touchscreen is a tiny little bit buggy:
Might there be a chance that the specified touch screen works with the fw? If no: Is there a possibility to configure the fw in a way that it will work?
It would be very nice to find out more on that as I don't want to simply do the same procedure as I did last time: spending about two days to install the same old buggy fw in the end. This is definitely not satisfying.
Thanks a lot for any hint - I tested the fw with mouse and keyboard, but that's no way for working long time if you know you've got a touchpad. Nonetheless, it was long enough to get quite surprised what my tablet is capable to do - and willing to do some work for having these capabilities
Meanwhile, I'll dig deeper

heres my new sensor reading
- tab vertical, landscape (y=+9.4)
- turn left to portrait (x=+9.7)
- turn right to portrait (x=-9.6)
- tab horizontal screen up (z=+10.0)
when i tilt my tab to +y my screen got reverted to -y same with x axis. ive dscovered that my y axis is portrait not landscape just like phones axis direction

USB Host Modem
Hello
I'm using OmniRom 4.4.4. v1.3 on my rk3066 PiPo Max M1. It works flawlesly, but there is one thing that bothers me. With stock 4.2.2 chinese rom I've been using usb modem(HUAWEI) to connect to the internet, which I've been connecting to HOST port.
After flashing OmniRom, the usb modem does not work. It does show up in USB Host Controller app, the storage in stick, works too, but it won't find mobile network. It gives me an error when searching for network.
Is there some setting that I should set or anything else to get it to work?

Before flashing anything do a backup from your stock firmware. You can google about how.
Usually changing the kernel.img for the stock of your tablet and flashing the ROM it might work (sometimes wifi, etc. Not). Also is important to know if your kernel is 3.0.8+ or 3.0.36+.
Cheers
I have a problem
Hi Oma! I have an Manta MID702 , but when i install your cm 10.1 on it, it boots, but i cant use the tablet cause there is a message: android.com.phone process has stopped. It reappears every time i close it. What can i do? Thanks in advice
To sum it up once more: I've got a touch screen that works with the original firmware but won't respond on the other roms. Problem: The original firmware is lagging and quite frequently simply coming to a halt.

Problems with generic RK2918 ICS tablet
Hi all!!
I'm new to this forum (and pretty much to Android scene in general), so please, be lenient with me in case I unadvertedly infringe any forum norm. The matter is, I've been looking for some info about a generic RK2918 tablet I bought about 2 years ago, to no avail. As of late, the device is acting strangely (random reboots and/or stuttering running apps that it managed effortlessly a couple months ago...). I'd like to know how to flash it, as well as which rom I should install in order to make my tablet reach its maximum potential. I've heard great things about Oma's CM 10.1 AOSP roms, but I don't know which one would suit my device best.
My device's specs go as follows:
The tablet is a IMD "|97D", a 9.7" inch, 4:3 aspect ratio screen running under Android ICS 4.03
RK 2918 CPU at 1.2 GHz
1 GB DDR3 memory
16 GB NandFlash
max 32GB microSD support
WIFI 802.11 b/g/n support
G-Sensor
dual micro USB, one of them OTG
10 point capacitive screen with IPS 1024 * 768 resolution
2MP front and back cameras
The device is currenly running under its default firmware (i.e. no root access). Any help and/or piece of advice on how to proceed would be extremely welcome. Thanks in advance!!
Sir Oma,
I flashed this rom to my Alcatel One Touch T10, CrewRKTablets_RK29_AOSP_4.2.2_r1_v1.3_20130714 with stock kernel 308 Alcatel T10 and
applied CrewRKTablets_AOSP_4.2.2_Format_NAND_fix. It is pretty stable however the battery status monitoring is not working. I have also
tried the other kernels said to be compatible with T10 notably the Pascal2 kernels. They seemed to work Ok but the screen display was
off-center, display was leaning to the right side of the screen. Same result when using the other stock kernel 308 Alcatel T10_2.
My only concern is the battery status monitoring, it remains stationary all through the whole hours of tablet use. Charging detection
is also not working. The rom however can detect the current battery status only when rebooting. I did try to apply the akku fixes for
JB and CM10, (though not intended for the AOSP rom) none worked. It ended up in bootloops.
Can you suggest a battery fix intended for CrewRKTablets_RK29_AOSP_4.2.2_r1_v1.3_20130714 rom? Of all the JB 4.2.2 offering found
at CrewRKTablets site, this rom proved to be useful and stable to my Alcatel One Touch T10 tablet. There are some minor function
issues like display resize "fit to standard screen" option, it does not work. Camera image is upside down. But I guess to a standard
user (like me) these function should not pose a serious problem as installing and running apps intended for JB 4.2.2 works smoothly.
Thank You and More Power!
@ tinko75, tried the BQ-pascal kernels too but to no good.
Hello,

Camera is not working because you are using ROM designed for some other device. I dont know what type of ROM you flashed, but you can find out about porting Cynagenmod ROM to your device at Cynagenmod's website :

BTW Jumping from one Android version to another just by flashing the ROM is risky business. If the preloader gets overwritten with mismatched type, you can hard-brick the phone.
