Maybe someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong. Using a stock rom, I'm losing maybe 10% an hour worth of batter with pretty consistent usage, but when I try CM, or an AOKP like RootBox or an AOSP like CarbonROM, I'm burning at least 3x that at over 30% an hour, with very minimal usage. Is this normal? It seems somewhat excessive, and unusable, to expect a little over 3 hours on a full charge. Is it due to the stock ROMs handling the 4 cores better? It's worth noting that I'm running ROMs with the included kernels for each, without changing any speed settings for the processor, and under stock, I'm using Eco Mode, which obviously will help some, but there's still a very, very big difference. If someone can point me at a solid ROM with a good kernel and good settings for battery life, I'd appreciate it. I'm not a very big fan of LG's stock experience, and changing the launcher and lockscreen only goes so far. lol

Even the sound quality (Incoming call and outgoing) is so low on AOSP based roms like CM etc. CM has always been like that on call quality since my Captivate days. I tried all the ROM's here and found out stock is better once u remove/freeze bloat. May be for others its been better i guess.
Chris, when you install the AOSP rom's are you restoring any system apps with TiBu? I'm experiencing (and I dare say many others are as well) really good battery life with RootBox. Some rogue app you are using is causing the drain because that is not normal behavior.
Maybe just install the ROM, gapps, and that's it for a few hours to see if it runs normally, then slowly start adding in your favorite apps. That way you might be able to determine what it's causing the problem. You should also install better battery stats or Dr. Power.

No, I didn't restore from TiBu, but I'll give RootBox a go again if you're having a good experience. Are you on the latest build with the included kernel?

Yes, I am on the latest RB; however, I'm running the latest Houcha kernel. I might give the included a kernel another go on houstonn's next release. He told me last night he's doing some fine tuning on some things and hopes to have another release fairly soon...I don't know what "soon" is to every other person, so don't quote me on that. Personally, I'm not a fan of underclocking, and I tend to enjoy the additional cpu steps of Houcha over the included kernel.

Volume seems fine to me, but I use a Bluetooth headset. I don't like the volume on speakerphone, unless I'm in a quiet room. Also, if you use the Trickster Mod, it's got an option to increase volume in the settings, not sure if that requires that you have the faux sound version of a kernel or whatnot...

I'm on my second day on newest rootbox with included kernel. Running underclocked to 288 on the low end, smartmax governor. Unplugged this morning at 5:30 am. Hit 69% battery remaining when I picked my daughter up at 4:30 pm. Light use - 20 min screen on browsing, 15 min of phone calls, 40 min pandora on the ride home. One Google account syncing. FB and GNow active. Rest of the random background apps greenified. Wi-Fi and BT off.
It's definitely possible to get decent battery life on this ROM. As stated above, look for rogue apps. Better battery stats is my favorite app for doing this.

Thanks I'll run it for a couple days and give some feed back. So far its looking really promising...started off with about 80% battery before installing and managed to make it for close to 4 hours before going completely dead. Thats four hours of heavy use...web browsing, youtube, texting, flashing and editing apps. where im at my modem is working over time to keep signal plus massive machine interferance(long boring nights at the steel mill again lol) no tricks or tweaks either, auto sync, GPS, and WiFi (even thought not being used) were on.............its on lte too. So like i said it looks promising.

I thought it would be a good idea to have a place where people can post their issues for others to see before they flash, or developers to fix when they build roms. Or, even better, we the users can try to troubleshoot the issues and confirm/share a fix with everyone else.
If you DO have issues, please state if you are using the stock RUU or one of the roms I'm sure will be pouring out over time..
*AND*
If anyone has any of these issues and can confirm please include in the title ISSUE or CONFIRMED(or workaround/fix along how it was done) in your post along with which issue and I will try to update the OP accordingly.
Example Title:
Code:
Confirmed: 5. Post #88 report of not detecting a wifi access point..
This will help me a lot with updating the OP and helping users find fixes, etc
Reported issues:
A few reports of both cores not being utilized properly(Screenshot of 1 core showing)(Confirmed post #171 this is only an issue if you think quadrant is a good program- it is "junk" )
Facebook not working properly(Potential fix reported #153 for root users: Uninstall facebook from /data/app folder and install from market- confirm if fixed)
Battery being TOO good(multiple times in this thread, lol) except #154 that reports unconfirmed worse battery when playing intensive apps/games
Multiple reports of reduced signal strength that fluctuates more(likely just a radio issue, build.prop edits linked in my signature helped me)
Post #88 report of not detecting a wifi access point- needs confirmation and troubleshooting if confirmed - punkmetalska please report your router settings.(Another user confirmed)
#100 the app screen filter doesn't turn off soft key lights(workaround- keyboard backlight controller or find posts here to edit init.d or use g-script(instructions post #121) to perm disable)
Post #107 issues changing font or startup/shutdown animations changes not sticking
Post #123 Unable to import backed up bookmarks from gingerbread(post #129 confirms)
Post #125 softbutton(?) lights will turn off if automatic brightness is not set
Post #128 removing lookout anti-virus speeds up response of phone
Post #132 Mutiple posts of system battery reporting 2%+ difference in battery than shown in pulldown bar after battery mod
Post #140 reports wifi disconnecting even though later explains wifi set to always on
Post #143 Reports issues with reg99 error for wifi calling and how it started working(in case it helps anyone)
Post #144 Issues changing features in stock keyboard, unable to choose which video player to use when opened in "mobile view"(stock browser?)
Post#145 reports white htc screen popping up intermittently, other users suggest battery pull helping and eventually it stops(building caches?)
Post #148 Reports issues sending MMS while connected to wifi, earlier post I'm too lazy to find also said this when wifi calling on
Post #150 Setcpu doesn't work, later posts give alternatives
Post #151 Stock messaging app doesn't show contact picture though contacts app does, possible fix in post #152(you'll have to search his posts for that day/time). Post #166 adds this issue and same with facebook and gtalk
Post #153 Reports "Camera "Manual Mode" image adjustment dials are impossible to read." *and* "USB OTG is missing. That is part of the android ics." -- I'm not sure I understand the issue, just reporting it here.
Post #157 Reports battery pull needed after phone would not wake from deep sleep- needs confirmation
Post #159 reports status bar can be pulled down without unlocking phone and slow keyboard(I have experienced this with all keyboard apps at random times)- Possible fix(for keyboard) go to main settings-develop options-background process limit(apps in cache) and set to 1-4, needs confirmation)
Post #160 Picasa pulldown in gallery app does not sync(needs confirm)
Post #163 Video button not working(needs confirm)
Post 193 Users reporting having to do a battery pull after phone has sat unused, confirmed by 1 user.

I use system tuner, it is a pretty bad ass app-- it should give a lot more detail about how the cores are running, even should have an option to choose how they run- but tons of features.. maybe you should check it out.
I am curious about the roms that will get produced, I would try capcombeta, but since it appears he did it for himself and has no intentions of supporting or continuing the rom, I think I will try the RUU later, or run it thru the kitchen myself adding and removing the things I like or don't like..
So to you two, on a 1-10 scale, how happy are you overall? Is it what you expected, more, or less? Have you tested everything? GPS? BT? WIFI? There must be SOME issues besides a little lag, lol.
And one of my few fears, at least because of experiences on my old phone-- if you wanted to go back to stock(or in our case, gingerbread) you had to be UBER careful to get the old kernels loaded before exiting CWM- simply restoring a nandroid did not do the trick.. so I am curious about what the process will be with our phones, if s-off means a nandroid backup would work perfectly, or if there would be extra steps to get back to gingerbread.
Couldn't be more happy with it, everything is working fine for me and battery seems to be lasting a lot longer so sar. Just install it and see

I have the ics ruu flashed on my stock phone (locked, s-on). The odd thing is that it seems to run faster but at the same time whenever I check "running apps" and "available ram" I have 532mb free at most so far but I have seen as low as 392mb. On gb I was averaging between 600-480's. ( I don't use many apps)
I really want to know if there is a way to get the icy blue ICS look for the notification bar/icons?
I mean this is ICS, HTC I don't think many people prefer your average looking Sense notification bar over what google offers with ICS. (I'm also not sure why they didn't just keep the google search bar and pulled down notification transparent)

I've checked BBS and it doesn't show anything obvious. No wake locks and no processes draining battery. I did some research and read that the Google apps and services are hard on battery. I'm running the latest stock firmware with AJ_Newkirk's kernel. Is there anything I could do to have 1% idle drain like most other people? I might change my kernel to see if this a kernel problem.

Hm, that's very odd. Could you please post a Screenshot of your BBS? That would be helpful. Normally I'd say it's probably BLN or suspend_backoff, but since you're saying that there aren't any wakelocks, your battery is either really old, or very very poorly calibrated....
Poorly calibrated? I havent checked on that yet.
I also forgot to get a screenshot of BBS. Ill get a screenshot after another charge cycle. But i read somewhere that this devices fuel gauge doesnt need calibration.

There is no need to calibrate your battery on the i777 as it does nothing.
On to OP's question:
The battery percentage can be deceiving at times. I've noticed that after flashing numerous roms/kernels, my battery % would increase/decrease. This is insane as it should always decrease a bit after flashing. My remedy was to use a kernel that could wipe the fuel gauge (fluxxi or siyah). You can do this by using their respective apps (as you're on the official "leak" customized by AJ, get extweaks once you're on Siyah). After doing that, let the phone naturally die off. Then do a full charge cycle. This helped a lot in having a more accurate reading of my battery % as well as longer battery life (at least from my observation).
Also, are you using the official battery for the i777? If so, how long have you had the device? I've heard that some had to buy a new OEM battery.
Yes I have the original battery. I've realized that a lot of the roms I've used have some kind of battery life problem. Roms like MIUI are rough on battery on my phone. But the best battery life I've ever had was on a CM9 Nightly. Too bad the CM9 camera wasn't too good or I would've stuck with it I think I'll try switching to AOKP and give that another try, even though I've flashed that rom a countless number of tines already.

Most of the Devs recommend 3 cycles of depletion/charge before you even worry about battery life. Plus have you checked to see if you have a roque app chewing up battery?
Yes ive checked that too. I usually dont install many apps to begin with. Ill let the battery deplete 3 times and report back. I would also like to say thanks to everyone for their input.

If you have something specific in mind then by all means share it with me.
Unfortunately, you saying "i get bad battery life" is of no help - especially when I am getting VERY good battery life, and so is everyone else who comments about battery life.
To the OP: You might want to reinstall and use the fresh install option. I have never seen Semi use battery in a bad way unless a rogue app was in play.
EDIT: I just noticed that you have checked for wakelocks. In the absence of any wakelocks, you may have a hardware issue. How much screen on time did you have in those 13 hours?

EDIT: I just noticed that you have checked for wakelocks. In the absence of any wakelocks, you may have a hardware issue. How much screen on time did you have in those 13 hours?

I think I had about 1 hour and 30 minutes or close to 2 hours. If this was a hardware problem how should I handle that? I got the phone in February, I'm not sure if I have warranty now since it has been a few months since I got the phone.
I have siyah kernal and if you boot cwm hit kernal specific items then set the battery to performance that may help. I've NEVER seen a drain as bad as yours. Are you on Wi-Fi? If so a bad wifi network that sends out a lot of un-needed traffic may hurt you.
Kernal specific options -> set battery to 'optomized'
If anything, and sorry if you said this, but go back to bone stock no apps, do it before bed is when I do things like this, let it set if you still see that drain jigg it and return it. Honestly if it is a hardware problem I wouldn't try to mess with it and break it then be sol. Maybe it is the battery go to any att shop and they should flip you a new one for free if you get a cool dude or lady like I usually do. Sorry if my posts waste your time just trying to help

Any help is welcome, and thanks for your time. I think I'll try to wait another few days to see how the battery life is. As of now my battery dropped from 55% to 30% in a little more than an hour. I also didn't wake the device at this time. I hope it's not a hardware problem, I've noticed poor battery life for as long as I've had the phone but it wasn't as bad as it is now. Does anyone know about how the warranty works? I always thought the warranty lasted for 30 days or 3 months or something.

How does that look? Just a tiny but of drain but its much better than a 30% drain.

Weird. I average between 10-18 hours depending on how much I'm using my phone. And out of the 271 apps I've installed, I've only found 4 that wouldn't work.

What apps? I have yet to see an app that doesn't work in ICS.
And 2:30 vs 3:30 screen on, or total time? Sounds like your usage is different than everyone else considering most other people get 4-5 hours screen-on time. And screen-on time isn't the only way to measure battery life unless you have zero standby time and a known quantity of what's running in the background.
Sooo..

This is dude's thread that you are crapping in. His comparison of 2:30 vs. 3:30 hours means more than you simply stating everyone else gets 4 to 5 hours.
That being said, I don't see a huge battery difference between ICS and GB.

I have seen a few apps that don't work in ICS. Some that are important to me. But the same thing happened in gingerbread. You have to wait till devs get all the apps updated. It is difficult since there are so many different devices that needs to be developed for differently.
And everyone's useage is different. Not sure what OP meant by 2:30-3:30 whether screen on or total but 4-5 hours screen on is not what everyone else is getting. It depends what you do with your phone. Maybe you sit and stare at your home page with a picture of you on it all day. But I use my phone. Much going on besides screen on. I hate to even call it a phone.

Back to GB for me - I flashed just about everything (my two favorite ICS ROMS were Flappjaxxx's UCLF6 (FJ MOD - not AOSP) and Hotwire's CM9 - each of these was smooth and ran w/good battery life BUT.. I am back on Saurom V7 w/RC7.1. No ICS ROM that I've seen has the kind of functionality that I want - for example using the notification toggles to put the screen to sleep - such a simple thing and only found in Saurom. Or Wake on Volume (although a few ICS ROM's have this) - these are the things that really make my phone useful, not to mention a fully functional SPen memo app.
However, I am using Saurom with the UCLF6 Modem, OC'ing to 1.782 (min 192) w/SetCPU, ADW EX Launcher and it's smooth, about 3 hrs screen on time (lot's of texts, phone calls and Emails) and total of about 12-14 hours before I get to ~ 20%.
I'm happy!
This might be a dumb question but I will ask anyway. I also would like to go back to GB. I do not like rooting a all. So is there a way to go back to the official GB from the official ICS with out rooting?

MeanBean is very good too, but my battery life is miserable now. Looking in the battery stats the only thing that looks unusual is the Internet (meaning the browser app) is at 36 percent of the total battery usage.
Is anyone else getting miserable battery life, and what is your internet usage reading?

I'm on MeanBean .5 and my battery life, albeit not better than MeanRom, is not that bad. My internet usage reading is 8%. I usually don't leave my 3G/WiFi on all day and I only turn it on when I want to check something or get a MMS. I guess that's why my battery life isn't nearly as bad as yours on MeanBean.
So sounds like your battery life is about the same? Are you using the new kernel or the old one?
Yeah I would make that assumption. I'm using whichever kernel Mikey included in the Rom, which I'm assuming is the JB kernel because the ICS kernel won't work. I try to stay away from other kernels because the kernel Mikey includes in his Roms is usually tweaked to work specifically for his Roms.
Disable Google now, don't fill up every home screen with widgets, reboot and give the kernel a day to settle. That should improve your battery life to almost ics levels

Something else to keep in mind is that MeanROM included Mikey's custom kernel, which was a big contribution to the fantastic battery life.

Someone on another forum suggested turning off location history in maps helped a lot with their battery life...
And someone else suggested a simple factory reset after flashing the ROM...(I know this helped out with a previous phone I had - it was burning battery like cray and running hot, and factory reset cured everything.)

What variant do you have?
Since battery on the V30 series on stock firmware is excellent, it sounds like you have a rogue app. There's been a spate of apps that got into Google store which have ad malware running in the background. The draining and heating up like crazy sound exactly like what others who had installed those apps complained about. You need to investigate if you have any of those apps, and uninstall them. Look in battery app usage, see if any thing stands out.
Besides that, even for normal apps, you can also Greenify all which do not need background permission (which do not need to be running when you are not using them). When you click to use them, they will open, and when you close them they will go back into hibernation. I don't want my calculator app running in the background when I'm not using it. Obviously you would not use that on email, weather widgets, etc.
Last, you can always use LGUP Refurbish mode to rebuild your stock firmware. You will have to unlock bootloader and root again, but you'll have a new foundation again.
If you want to find out which app is draining your battery, there is only one app I'm aware of that can help you: Wakelock Detector Lite.
Download, follow the instructions.

so in the midtime i've tried another 2 custom roms, havoc os and dot os, and they were better with the battery, but not great, and had performance issues like stuttering while scrolling or lag in animations, so i decided to go back to stock hoping battery would be better. turns out it wasn't the case, i'm still getting something like 5h sot (which is quite bad for me), but at least it isn't heating up anymore, just a bit warm to the touch. it's draining in standby also, and system os and kernel (and also google play and services)

Why didn't he? It's clearly in the bootloader unlock and root Instructions.
Every time you flash stock KDZ you have to fully re-root. The only exception is when installing TWRP-flashable zip, which already has that removed.
(Just read where he says most recent time he used TWRP flashable zip.)

I think that rctd is quite obsolete for detecting magisk/systemless root. Rctd is on default state in my H932, it will report my device as official (via LGMENU), and no logs/traces that proof rctd is active behind the 'scenes' (via "ps | grep rctd" in terminal). I don't notice any difference with or without rctd enabled, and I believe, LG won't update its rctd algorithm anytime soon (perhaps you're already know why )

Actually, i did try RTCD Disabler, but it didn't make a difference whatsoever, it even told me, before flashing, that no activity was found. Also, the twrp zip that i had flashed had daemon removed. Maybe i'm not getting the right version or something? I got it from XDA Labs.
What i could say is that i flashed a older kdz, 21o, and it worked fine, but after updating to 22j it just ****ed up. Maybe that could be the cause? (i didn't install anything btw, just ran it full stock)
Also, sorry for being a noob, i'm kinda new here.

Please refer my battery usage attached, I'm not set battery saver on my phone.
i finally did fix the issue, i don't know what it was but anyways, battery is very strong now, at least when i'm actively using the phone. it could get me to 8+ hours of use, but another problem now seems to be standby drain, which kills my battery way too quickly than it should. i usually lose 1-2% per hour, or even more, and it gets even worse when i'm in motion. like, let's say i'm outside right now, hanging out with some friends. i open up the phone for few secs, close it, open it again after 15 mins and i lose a percentage. i was even running naptime so i don't know what could be wrong.

yeah, you're right. maybe i'm just too nitpicky about the phone, it may have to do with the knock on as touch screen is always on and stuff like that, but i love that feature so i won't turn it off. anyways, it'd be cool to find a way to reduce the idle drain, as it's bigger than on most other phones.

Every phone I've owned, you can never rely on the reviewed standby time. I've had some junkers in the past (mostly time reduced by poorly made custom ROMs), but I'm on stock with this V30+. Best battery life I've ever had by far.

yeah, you're right. maybe i'm just too nitpicky about the phone, it may have to do with the knock on as touch screen is always on and stuff like that, but i love that feature so i won't turn it off. anyways, it'd be cool to find a way to reduce the idle drain, as it's bigger than on most other phones.

So SRTC
com.tmobile.pr.adapt
Also flash RTC and no verity

Edit, no need for com.tmobile.pr.adapt since you don't have an H932. But SRTC does drain a bit in stand by. It sends info to LG as I understand it.

thanks for the tip. i disabled srtc with lg package disabler, but i don't quite understand the rtc no verity thingy. also, i think i found out what could be actually draining the battery in standby for good, and that has to be the sensors. i don't know how or why, but when i activated the mode which disables all motion sensors on the naptime app, my phone discharged really slowly in idle. however, i could not keep it like this because it was buggy and my phone would take 5 seconds to wake up, and touch didn't even work, only the power button. maybe if there was some way to stop the phone's sensors in idle, like the motion sensor or the accelerometer, or whatever is draining the battery.
