[Q] DNA on T-Mobile - HTC Droid DNA

So I've searched and searched and I can't find a clear answer. I'm planning to get a DNA today. I realized that probably only the NOS rom works with tmobile which I don't mind. I just want to make sure I can get HSPDA and 3g with MMS. I spoke to someone today who used it on t-mobile and they told me they had issues with the network jumping from edge to 3g and hspda. Can anyone help me out?! thanks in advance!

Any rom will work, even the stock one. 3g will only work if you live in an area that they have updated to the 1900 band. But they have been doing it very slowly and sometimes 1 tower may be updated but the next one isn't updated. So that's why it nay be jumping from 3g to 2g.
Mms will work if you get the apn set up correctly.

All correct. I'm currently using my DNA on T-Mobile. Did some speed tests when I first got on it and was getting 4.5M/2.5M.
MMS is indeed a pain in the ass. Ended up using GoSMS which gives you the ability to input an APN for MMS use.
I could not get MMS working in the stock app.
I'm running UKB.

Add another T-Mobile user, works fine aside from the usual MMS as mentioned, it also works fine on the CM10.1 builds and my other rom builds, dunno about AOKP but i see non reason it wouldn't also work on T-Mobile. As mentioned its mostly if the tower refarm is done, living around phoenix I get random E through H+, its a bit unstable but until the refarm is finished I expected it.

So how's this phone currently working out for everyone on T-Mobile? My Verizon contract just ended the other day so I can either continue with Verizon or switch without a cancellation fee. I do have grandfathered unlimited data, but have heard that now T-Mobile is offering unlimited "high speed". Is it worth switching over?

Coverage there's no contest against vzw, but for overall working and compatibility its fine. Refarmed areas will also give you h+.

hmm.. you think if i complain to vzw about t-mobile's cheaper prices that they'll be willing to negotiate the cost of my plan?

I wouldn't know, never had vzw, but my first guess is no.

I would definitely definitely definitely switch while you have the opportunity. JUMP is such a great deal coupled with T-Mobile's plans..

[Q]Using this phone on AT&T

Someone had mentioned to me you can pick up this phone, unlock it, and then put it on AT&T with a $10 unlimited data feature phone plan. Has anyone tried this/have any experience with this? If so, could you tell me your experiences with it?
It is my understanding AT&T does sweeps to determine if a phone is a smartphone or not, and automatically upgrades your phone to a data plan if it is a smartphone, but the vibrant can bypass this since it is not AT&T branded. If anyone who has done this could tell me about their experiences, or point me to another thread where this has been done, it would be greatly appreciated!
You might be able to do that, but because of the spectrum differences between T-Mobile and AT&T it will leave you stuck on edge at best for data.
Damn you Swype!
I am using this phone on AT&T with the $10 a month data plan, I also get 3g.
The Vibrant does support the 1900mhz Spectrum, which is awesome, cause T-Mobile is starting to open up 1900mhz in the Northwest getting ready to launch there HSPA+ 84Mbit network. So I could see someone hacking the radio in a Pentaband phone and getting mad speeds on t-mobile... maybe?

What did you have to do to make this work? 2 year contract for a feature phone?
The original contract was for a pantech link
I'm on att using the $10 plan as well. 3g works but since vibrant only has one of att's 2 3g bands, the data can be spotty at times and i go into edge occasionally.
One of the reasons i want a new phone, but it's not too bad here in nyc.
You don't need a new contract just choose the feature online. It's only $10 if you have unlimited messaging though. Otherwise it's $15
I have the vibrant with ATT but cannot connect to the 3g network at all. I am running WEUI rom and i get a signal, but it either shows an "E" or an "H" by the signal when data is enabled...
Any ideas how to get it on 3g?
Thanks
H is 3g+, so you're fine.

Thanks. Thats interesting... So H is faster than 3g which is faster than E, is that how it works?

HTC Amaze on Straight Talk-- ATT or Tmo sim??

Hi guys I an recently switching from Verizon over to Straight Talk to save some money. 45$ a month unlimited.. You can't beat it. Anywho here is my dilemma. I live in Michigan and out in the country on a lake where reception isn't that great as it is but it's still functional. I want to know if I should use the TMO Sim or the ATT Sim they offer. I already have a Tmo sim I can activate but if I do and the service sucks they said I need to change my number to get the att sim switched in. My question is will it give me any insight into my possible reception if I put in the sim b4 activating it and drive around? Bc it seems to show bars for awhile then just drop off and say no service after awhile for about 10mins then it comes in and out intermittently. Any insight is appreciated thank you!!
On another note I heard about some att /Tmo roaming agreement? If I could roam atts voice service all should be well right? Or is that not for mvno carriers? I really like my number or else I'd take the chance!

I use my amaze with tmo sim on striaght talk and it works perfect! Everything is working great. I have awesome reception. 4g works great and I can tether my tablets and laptop all for 45 bucks a month. Took a lil while to get the apn settings right for everything to work because straight was telling the wrong settings but I got it right now and its awesome!

We all know those coverage maps don't mean jack lmfao. Hey gamble what are your apn settings so I can try them out and see how it goes. It has decent service with the unactivated sim card but keeps kicking to "no service" not sure if this is just from not being activated or the service is spotty.

Is there a data cap on strait talk? Also how are the 4G speeds on strait talk compared to the 4G on tmobile. I was going to switch to Metro PCs just to save money. I am getting tired of paying 210 dollars for 3 lines.

Consider looking into Walmarts T-mobile Prepaid 4G plan if the Straight Talk doesn't have good coverage.
$30 for 100 minutes, and unlimited text and data (5GIG of 4G data).
If you prepaid it with credit card, you get $5 off making it $25.
I love the plan, and only ONCE have gone over the 5G of data. Speeds average 2-6MB, and with good coverage up to 15-20MBps

I thought straight talk piggy backed right off of AT&T so wherever AT&T customers get coverage you would get coverage?

thinking of switching from simple mobile... do any of you guys have issues with throttling? simple mobile throttles same as t-mo does after 2GB... also, what SIM card do I need for it to work? I have an old at&t SIM and a couple old T-Mo SIMs... do they require you to use one of theirs? If so, where do you get it? I went by my local wally world and they only sold the stupid phones and re-up cards, no SIMs and the person that was available was zero help... any info would be GREATLY appreciated... I'm not too worried about the speed difference, I'm in a large metro area, so I'm sure it won't be a huge difference whether I use t-mo or at&t...
ok, well I found the SIM on their site, ordered it, got free shipping... will purchase the unlimited plan when I receive the SIM and will report back with some comparison (to SimpleMobile) photos... I just went the "unlocked GSM phone" route instead of choosing one or the other, which I guess means it's equivalent of going the att route...

Yeah..i did the same thing. Supposedly they pick best SIM for your area. I say if you know what phone you have and what service is better in your area, just pick it instead of letting them. I ended up with ATT and signal was horrible at my house, dropped calls all the time. So i recently swapped over to ST TMO SIM and it's been amazing. I had verizon and it was terrible (at my house), sprint was the worst, no signal whatsoever. I don't live out in the country or anything either. It's like a dead spot just at my house, my brother lives down one block from me and has verizon and is great for him.
Anyhow...ST TMO with a Samsung Galaxy Blaze gets 10MB/s down and 1MB/s up. Download speeds faster then my home ISP.
Only had ST TMO for a week and it's been alot better then ATT for me. So it will be trial and error. Whatever fits best for you, but what's good about it is that SIM card is only $15 if you have to try the other one.
Good luck!

I just bought the Tmo SIM, the ATT service was horrible (Orlando, FL) dropped more calls this month than I have in the last 3yrs... absolute SHYTE!!! FU ATT!!! soooooo happy that "merger" failed hard on it's face!!!
Just my two cents hope this clarifies st just pays Atat and t-mobile to use there network, servers etc. They can't alter it ie. Roaming agreements. So if you have.both sims try them both to see which works better t-mobile still gives 4g I don't think Atat can on st. Also ive changed a number from a phone to a sim while it was activated.

Important: When you buy a ST sim card you will have a choice between at&t or t-mobile networks.
http://www.straighttalk.com/shopsims
If you chose.. "Unlocked GSM Phone (Phone must operate in 850 and 1900 MHz bands)" this is the at&t network card.
If you chose.. "T-Mobile Compatible Phone" this is the t-mobile network card.
You can buy both cards and switch networks without losing your minutes or being charged for switching networks. In the your ST control panel both cards (after registration) will be listed as available options.

At&t phones will work on T-Mobile (or simlpemobile) network (calls, SMS, mms) but will not have 3/4G data. The modem hardware isn't compatible. You would get EDGE which is pretty slow.
If you use straight talk, you will get 3G data. You will have to buy a sim card online then get $45 refill card, and you would have unlimited everything.
I'm sure edge is faster than the 700-1000kb I'm getting from boost

Think "dialup modem" class speeds. A bit faster - I think 200-300 kilobits/sec if you're REALLY lucky.
Right. EDGE is 2G technology. Not much good for web 2.0 stuff or streaming.

Would the 3g data be HSPA+ and how good are the speeds? I have the GS2 on Sprint and my contract is up in September. I'm thinking about going to Straight Talk with a used ATT or TMO GS2. Just wondering which phone would be the best choice.
the 3g data is HSPA+ with straight talk. I switched over from a verizon galaxy nexus and i can say that the HSPA+ speed here is comparable to the Verizon 4g LTE speed, but the signal strength is not near as good.
If im outside, i get about 7 meg down and 1-2 meg up on my at&t i777 (straight talk) and i get 4-6 meg down and .7 - 1 meg up on my 4gLTE Gnex.
Indoors, my GSM signal suffers whereas my CDMA signal does not. Speed not that big of difference, just hard to keep a steady signal with my GSM phones.
Either way, a GREAT deal on straight talk... They say its unlimited but they will call you if you have excessive use (250-500'ish megs in a day or some say over 2gb in a month) and some have said they will deactivate your sim, but i havent had that issue yet.
Great info. Thank you. Somehow the guy at my local Sprint store got me a 25% discount last September when I bought my GS2 for being an employee of Boeing. Thing is I don't work for Boeing and never have. The 3g is horrible and I really don't want to sign another contract with Sprint. It's a decent deal now with the discount but if corporate catches on and takes that away, I'm stuck with it. I thought about the GSM Gnex for $350 from Google, but it really isn't the phone I want. I might wait until the next Nexus arrives. Rumors are we'll see one in early November.
Honestly, this thread should be a sticky. I'm sick and tired of people posting this same exact thing weekly!!!!!!!

sick of sprint

So I bought this LTE EVO 4g for lte.. I pay 10 dollars for premium data service and well all I get is 3g ..my bill for one line is roughly 100 dollars a month.. so my girl has straight talk and pays 45 unlimited a month.. well I'm ready to jump ship and I was wondering if I can one get me off the cheap way sprint contract and 2 use my LTE EVO for straight talk?
I think straight talk uses AT&T bands (gsm) so the Evo LTE wouldn't work because it uses cdma bands. It WILL work on Boost though. If you must use Straight Talk, then sell your Evo and buy a One X or One of XL.

Straight Talk uses several carries, including SPRINT, ATT, and VERIZON. How do i know this you ask; well I sell them as part of my job. Straight Talk is working hard on making it easy to bring your own phone and activate service through them. In a few months (subject to change) The system should be in place to bring any cdma phone to straight talk. Currently at the store i work at, all of our straight talk phones go off verizon. Some stores have ones that go off ATT or Sprint, so you need to be careful in which phone you select.

I am in a same boat. Struggling with unusable speeds, while my friends with t-mobile's "wannabe" 4G are getting 14mbps down and 3 mbps up. Faster than LTE in 2 spots that I was able to get it.
I thought of using Verizon PRL and force Sprint to boot me off their network, but I called them, gave them all of my complaints, and hoping they could help me. I was with them for 11 years, so maybe they will take it into account.
The verizon prl is the best solution. Because the only thing they are gonna take into account is the fact that right now they are making a ton of money off you. If you wanna try to flash your phone to verizon or pageplus you won't be disappointed. If you need 4g and live in good tmobile coverage area then selling your device after you get kicked off sprint is a good idea.

I actually left straight talk with the BYOP program (Nexus 4) I had the AT&T sim, which was all fine and dandy until about the second of January. It seemed like all of my towers were either down or just working very poorly. I also got throttled after streaming ONE youtube video during my month (I'm on wifi otherwise) so trust me, you WILL get throttled on ST. I also had problems with the phone not connecting to towers for literally an entire day, and when people tried calling me it said my phone was "disconnected" even though I paid for service 3 months in advance.
My personal opinion is to avoid them, but it really is up to you what you want to deal with. My data with ST was way faster than with sprint, but all I use my phone for is streaming music, which Sprint's 3G can handle rather easily where I live. I would recommend flashing to boost, same phone, speed, and a lower price. Plus you actually know at what point you'll be throttled.
Also, before anybody says anything, I also tried a tmo sim and had the same issues. I get great tmo and AT&T reception where I live also. It seems to me they're cheaping out on their towers.
just my 2 cents.

This seems hit or miss..I've read reports of people roaming multiple gigabytes and getting no warning while I went just over 300mbs twice and got the letter. Good luck getting out if that's what you so desire. Some will give you flack for this method, but I support you. Sprint advertises "normal" 3G speeds, but for a portion of us the speeds are dismal. Lol Ive dealt with their horrible data speeds for so long it doesn't even bother me. And paying the extra $10 for data when I only picked up wimax when I was in Albany and it wasn't even that good there was annoying but I sucked it up. But after losing my discount right after I signed on for another 2 years pissed me off.

HTC One and Grandfathered TZones?

Has anyone with a TZones plan tried it with a T-Mobile HTC One? I wonder if the T-Mobile still imposes the restriction now that they go UNcarrier.
Many thanks,

All the new plans come with 500Mb high speed and unlimited EDGE. Why would you be using T-Zones?

But it costs nothing extra for the new plans - it is included in the monthly fees. As for T-Zones, it is not designed for high speed phones, an T-Mobile is getting pretty good at detecting what IMEI is being used on the network. T-Zones was a GPRS/EDGE connection.

It wasn't an edge connection the last time I used it. I had full 4G on an unlocked phone.
And plus, just because it "costs nothing extra for the new plans" doesn't mean that the base plan is any cheaper than a grandfathered plan + tzones.
Now just to be clear, when I say grandfathered I'm referring to fairly old plans of the T-zones era, not 2011-2012-ish grandfathered plans.
Hah, and forgot to mention, you had unlimited tethering with those old tzones plans too.

Did you have the chance to try it on an unlocked phone that was capable of the 21 HSPA at the time (sorry I don't remember all the details of that speed rating).

No, sorry. I've been on high speed data for several years. I'm surprised that T-Mobile hasn't caught out the T-Zones folks though. Those plans were designed for the phones that only went to the "T-Zones" web interface. But maybe it is just not worth it for the few who still use it.

AFAIK, newly Google Nexus 4 can fully operated on T-Zones w/o a problem (fully unlimited) and some area can get 4G speed. That's why people keep T-Zones data plan.

Using an HTC One (unlocked version) and I'm getting the upsell page. If someone can confirm if TMobiles version or att's works that'd be great.

I just unlocked an AT&T HTC One. Enabled LTE using the the #*#*4636*#*#. I got an "LTE" Icon under the 4G icon. But, when I go online, it takes me to the T-Mobile upgrade page.
I am currently using Galaxy Nexus with Tzone and I am getting HSPA+, but not LTE since this phone is not LTE capable.
I am going to try my friend's SIM tomorrow where he has actual data plan to make sure AT&T HTC One does indeed work with T-Mobile LTE.

because with tzones i pay $3/mo and get true unlimited data
its pretty much the only reason im using a GS4 (unlocked AT&T version works with tzones) instead of the one... 30mb downloads and 20mb uploads for $3/mo with no cap is pretty awesome
Doesn't work. Tried it. No data connection.
Had to give up tzones

You must have an N4 built before 2/2013, the newer ones sadly are IMEI blocked.

Is there a way to change the imei to an older built? So it can work with t-zones? I just bought an N4 and it's not working with my t-zones plan. I'm new to Android, coming from an iPhone world, which works fine using t-zones. So I'm not sure what to do

It's illegal to change IMEI. Also it could easily get you banned around here.
