Maps keep opening. - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I have noticed through the course of the day that my battery keeps getting drained by maps. I'm not using maps at all but it keeps opening itself up. Is this from location services? Or is it from something else?

App perpetually syncing

I have a Google app perpetually syncing for the past couple of days. I have the icon in the status bar on always, even after I've turned off all Google apps from automatically syncing. I also tried putting it into airplane mode, rebooting, and shut down background data. Any ideas or similar situations?
Have you tried force stopping the process or freezing the app via titanium backup?
Haven't figured out which it is.that is what I would normally do.

[Solved][Q] GPS voice stuck on DATA CONNECTION LOST

I was using my GPS today to goto my cousins house, and I noticed every time it comes time for my GPS to announce the next turn, instead of saying something like "turn left" it says "data connection lost". At first I thought I was getting bad service, but then I realized I have full 4g and phone signal and my GPS is fine, its just changing the words to "data connection lost".
Has anyone else experienced this? I'm using Google Navigation fully updated on NRG 8/1 stock Rom with the most recent faux kernel. It only started happening, or rather I only noticed it, after I installed the Google Now Zip in the Amaze development section, so later I'm gonna uninstall and try it again. Any other suggestions?

I had a similar issue where it would give me a street name(I was not in my home state and the name was from home) instead of the turns although it was sending me in the right direction. I uninstalled and reinstalled....problem solved. Good luck.
Live and Die on this day....
Did you uninstall Now or Navigation?

Sorry yeah, I asked because I stated in OP that it started after I installed Google Now.
But you were right. Once I reinstalled Google Navigation it fixed.itself. thanks.

I.had it happen where it was just announcing the same direction over and over, but the map was still sending me the right way. I just deleted the app data, and ask was fine again.

Battery drain from maps?

I'm wondering why maps is using so much of my battery. I have gps off and Google location services off. I don't have the map app open in the background either. Any ideas as to why it is doing this?

Google maps uses your gps...and some data...in return it eats up battery pretty quick.

Definitely! Data drains battery so fast. Errrrrrr. I like using wifi than data
Go into location settings in maps and disable location reporting.

Download greenify and hibernate the app.

Try Backitude. Lets you specify the interval that location updates are done rather than the constant polling that Google maps does.
