So my prime has that green camera problem a lot of us are getting. The screen on my prime is popping out where the camera is. It was already popped out when I first bought it in 2012 of February. It's not until now my camera isnt working, and all it shows is green bars and purple bars then crashes the app. I've tried the pinching method. It works, but I have to pinch it pretty hard, but hard to take pictures. I got a clip to pinch it for me, kind of works. If I move to fast or take a picture in portrait, I might see purple bars and it will crash if unlucky.
I use the camera a lot on my prime. It has an amazing camera and I use it as my main camera when going out.I'm thinking about opening my Prime and try to fix the camera using some methods people posted on XDA. I;m just scared I'll mess up my prime while opening. I sent ASUS an email, even tho my bootloader is unlocked and likely they won't RMA it, plus its been a while, and prob lost warranty.
Just wondering any other ideas trying to fix my camera without opening it yet. Thank you~! .

So I noticed I received the firmware update to the camera earlier today, and also of course came the ICS update. Anyways, I started trying out the rear facing camera, it looks fine but when I go to take a picture, the picture saves as just the color green. Its as if you use ms paint and just color the whole screen green. There's no traces of the actual picture. Its just a green screen basically.
The camera was definitely working fine yesterday. Does anyone have an idea of whats going on. I also tried it with Camera ZOOM FX, it does the same thing. Front camera is fine as so is Video.
Was your issue look similar to this pic.

If so then you are not alone. It seem that we are in the same boat. Here is the link the post started by another member.

thanks its very similar. my view finder is fine. its after the picture is taken. I get a pure green screen saved. hope it was the update that messed it up and not hardware. waiting for an ASUS response.
After about 5 shots my camera goes all green and blurry, a reboot fixes it then it starts again.
Soft and factory resets don't seem to cure it, anyone else getting this?
To clarify:
1: Boot Prime
2: Take Photos, Watch video for hours all is fine
3: 6/7th Picture screen begins to tear massively while taking them
4: Pictures are fine, screen in general is fine
5: Camera app is constantly tearing, video playback is tearing.
6: Reboot Prime
7: Goto 2
It seems more likely to happen if Im taking pictures of moving things, I can sit and photograph a wall for ages, try something moving and then it seems to kick in.
I don't know first hand but I scan the fourms alot and green camera = hardware failure. I heard it has nothing to do with flashing roms and anything of that sort. Green camera cannot be fixed.
I saw some threads related to camera problems. Then I saw this one a decided to take a picture. After I took it my camera view is all screen tearing. Its very bad. But it must be software because when i take the picture its a normal picture.

Yeah its not as green as my original comment, I guess the green was an exaggeration of the green in the photos.
It is akin to extremely bad tearing though, once it occurs the effect carries over into any videos i watch too.
Reboot makes it go away but then its back a dozen or so pictures later.
this is definitely a hardware problem mine stopped working. had to go to best buy where they swiped it for a new one and the last one instock in this part of the state.. ridiculous no wonder asus has sold so few there impossible to come by

I'm pretty sure it can't be a hardware problem due to the way it happens.
1: Boot Prime
2: Take Photos, Watch video for hours all is fine
3: 6/7th Picture screen begins to tear massively while taking them
4: Pictures are fine, screen in general is fine
5: Camera app is constantly tearing, video playback is tearing.

If it was hardware failure why would reboots fix it for a certain amount of time, the pictures themselves be fine and absolutely nothing else cause this issue until I've taken a few pictures?
Same issue here and it did happen strictly after .21 update. Pics and videos are extremely noisy and blury as if they were all taken in extremely dark conditions.

Check that your ISO setting is not too high. 100-400 is normal. Could also be white balance setting.
I could not reproduce with .21 on mine.
I have the same problem with mine after the. 21 update. Green with static with the rear camera but if I set it to the front facing camera it is fine

same here - rear facing looks like screen shot below but front facing works fine. I'm afraid this is hardware, other than it worked fine before .21.
any thoughts?

Yes, it is a hardware problem. I had the same and I sent it back to Asus for repair 3 weeks ago. They decided to send me a cheque for a buyback instead.
I am now waiting for the cheque to come. May be you should send yours back too.
Hi all, I've searched this forum and beyond for any other people having this issue or solutions.
Basically I accept the video camera quality on the sony tablet s isn't the best, but it's passable for what I need it for.
However, it seems to get over excited with the auto focus. Every 5 seconds it blurs out of focus, then back in, if I so much as move it while filming. It's a real shame because the quality isn't too bad, but there just doesn't seem to be any way to resolve it.
Seems like after ICS it doesn't spend as long doing it (pre ICS it would take around 4 seconds, now 1 or 2) but it's still as frequent. Any one else get this? Solutions? Or is it my tablet? Thanks

Got an email from Sony recommending I do a hard reset but will lose all my data. So yeah I'll back everything up and give it a go.
Has anyone else had an issue like this? Simple yes or no if you can - I want to know if it's just me. It's VERY noticeable when I'm filming. Obviously due to whatever Im filming moving and changing distance, but not by much. Example, video of a baby rolling around on the floor, while I stay stationary (camera held to the floor so it doesn't move) and cannot hold focus at all.
So yeah - anyone else care to just let me know how their camera is before I hard reset? Ta!
I cannot get this damn camera to macro focus on anything. I came from a Droid Charge, which actually has a fantastic camera, and this one is disappointing to me. There is a lot of noise, and switching apps didn't seem to help that, but I could live with that if I could get the stupid thing to focus on what I wanted. I can tap the screen and it still won't switch focus to the thing closest to the phone. It won't even focus on something as simple as a Coke can right in front of the camera, but everything behind it is in perfect focus. Please help! I'd like a phone camera that can take a decent picture at least as good as my Charge, this one is terrible so far though.
yeah I've noticed that macro focus isn't that great on the dna. hve you tried macro mode? it helps a bit. I noticed that to focus on something small you can't be right up next to it.. you have to pull back for it to focus right.

Definitely tried every mode there is on the thing. Even tried the Camera 360 app everyone says is better. I was trying to take a close up picture of a completed lego building probably about as big as both your fists together on a table. The phone would not focus on that object. Would not. Not even moving the phone itself farther back. But everything in the background was in perfect focus. Dumbest thing I've ever seen. Picked up the Charge (I just gave it to my mom to use) and took a perfect picture on the first try, even without macro mode.
If that's the best the DNA camera can do I might have to explore other devices. I REALLY don't want another Samsung phone because they're terrible, but the one good thing about that Charge was the camera. I'm disappointed to say the least. Hopefully they can fix something like that in an update, I'll be sending an email to Verizon and HTC about it. I might even stop by a Verizon store to do a side by side test with another one and exchange if it's better. I was super excited to get this phone, but not even being able to use it in quick point-and-shoot situations is a deal breaker.
Hello everyone, I may be missing something but i was playing around with the camera on this great phone and realized that the normal press and hold of the shutter button to have the camera focus in a dark room does not work. If you press and hold the camera takes shots in burst mode. If you press it once the flash lights up dimly but does not focus properly and then flashes full blast but takes a blurry photo. This is very annoying because im used to my samsung s3 and note 2 that would focus by holding the shutter button in a dark room and then release to take a clear focused picture.
Am I missing something? for a camera that is good in low light and have 5 levels of flash intensity it seems to make no sense to not be able to focus in a dark room. whats the point of having a camera with a flash that cant take a picture in the dark or semi dark room right?
let me know if you are having this issue, if you think i'm doing something wrong or maybe if ill just have to deal with it until HTC comes out with an update. if it happens to you we can all call 8664498358 and press 0 and let HTC know this is very annoying I have gotten through to a live person instantly by calling this number to ask why in the world the power saver feature is persistent in the notification drop down....there reason....dummy instructions and to many service returns for "bad batteries"
UPDATE: I have spoke with HTC on a separate issue and mentioned this to the guy i spoke with and he has not had any other feedback on this issue, how ever he advised me to have anyone who is having this issue please contact them, he was not able to duplicate it yet because he in not in a dark room but he said he will try it when he can (Thanks Fred). the more people who report the issue and provide feedback the better chances they can get it resolved, I am having this issue on my wifes phone and my phone. you may need to focus on a far object and then try to focus on a near object in a dark room, like a room with less then low light. In my case it was in a room only lit by an old crt tv (bedroom) how ever he advised me the more feedback the better, they are very interesting in hearing from us and he is very aware of the xda forums as well as other android forums out there.
so no one cares. nice
So much for the community. No one seems to care even though plenty of you guys have looked and all own this phone. Pretty disgraceful.
EDIT: Sorry if I sound rude or condescending, Just surprised no one has commented yet or has said they are having this issue, personally I use my phone for taking photos in less then low light situations often and if this issue cant get resolved its going to really suck. HTC can fix it but needs the feedback to know that its widespread and not just a fluke, although they do know that its happening on my wifes phone and my phone.
I've tried it, and it doesn't auto-focus either. Manually focusing before taking the picture works though.

Thank you very much for the reply, I have tried to manual focus and it doesnt work for me in very dark situations. sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't though. I have noticed if I focus on something distant in a low light area and then back on something near in a very dark area it will not focus. Every other camera I have used on a phone has lit up the flash long enough and bright enough to focus and turn the focus indicator green how ever this camera seems to focus on speed and seems to not care about weather the picture is focused, it doesn't turn red or beep or anything it just takes a blurry photo. it takes more blurry photos then clear it seems to me in low light or less then low light conditions.
If you could please contact HTC and let them know I would be very happy and hopefully they get this issue fixed, I have called HTC a few times for other issues. yesterday my lock screen kept saying today was cinco de mayo and for the life of me I couldnt figure out how to turn that off and I also am not happy about the Gallery app showing every single friend photo including horribly low resolution ones not to mention the persistant power saver notification in the drop down thats so stupid! but when I talked to them they mentioned the camera issue and wanted me to explain to them cause they saw the notes based on my phone number and previous calls, they would like all the feedback they can get.
This isn't just a T-Mobile HTC One issue, my international is doing this too.
I'd be interested to know from someone that doesn't have this problem, in a dark room, if you tap on the screen to focus, does the light come on?
All other phones I've had would light the area to focus, as you've said above this just tries to focus in the dark. How can that be right?
I've tried different ROM's and firmware, always tries to focus in the dark. Why on earth would it do this!?!?!
Yeah I noticed that problem too when trying to take a picture of a person in a life like Iron Man costume in a theater Friday night.

lets get this fixed!
Boy I'm glad I'm not the only one. I know we are about fixing stock and nodding and what not but please start a ticket on the issue. HTC has a place on there website for this or you can call them.
